    Question

Is there a way to tell if motherboard is capable in the future of running conroe from bios cpu voltage adjustments?

    Yum.. yum

looks like Abit went back to plastic pegs for NB attachment instead of the AW8-Max's use of screws.

seems to have more copper strips at the back than the AW8-Max

seems like the AW8D is much better this guy beta tested one with Celeron 356 clocked to 5.1ghz on air and 6.2ghz on phase http://www.chip.co.id/forum/showthread.php?t=28949

i'll tell you right now, they are screwing this board up, those caps are way too close to the socket for phase cooling. That's going to cause problems.

I wouldn't worry too much. You're in no danger of being able to buy one of these anytime soon. Rumor from those that know is, yes, this board will support Conroe from first release. In fact it is being "respun" right now for just this purpose.

Thanks FCG, www.aria.co.uk has an odd entry in its mobo listings. They say its an AW8D, in stock, correct pic, correct specs, but says i955x chipset in the title (says 975x in specs obv) and is also priced at AW8 levels. I emailed them today asking what was going on but I wont ge ta reply till tomorrow now cos its 7:45pm here in the UK.

    I sure hope so.

The board itself look's very impressive. Loving the color scheme, etc. Good placement, idc about the lack of one of the IDE ports as I only use one atm, but lack of floppy wtf? Sure, I don't have one in my riggy but when I install XP I rig one outside for RAID drivers.

I was just told by an Abit marketing rep that only the MAX and the Fatality versions of this boards will support the Conroe. And the regular version, if that is what to call it, does not.

This is just what I was told.

If thats true, damn. The Max had better be good, because I'm not buying anything with that Wendels "cool" gaming name all over it.

Hehe, sound's like teh return of the Abit MAX series (yes they've been around since the IC7-G Max but they've all blown after that board).

    Fatality = gay... IMO

I thought the new Intel based mobos have really good onboard sound? One PCI slot is a big problem, I want at leasts two.

I`ve had 1 Abit board...a Wendy SLI and it really put me off Abit but this does look like it has *some* promise.

Was the Wendy SLI a 1-off disaster on Abits part? Can this motherboard support Conroe? (evidence preferred over theory, no offense)

    Thanks

Abit PR told me that only the AW9D Max will do so. I asked two days ago and they were very quick

but I'm not allowed to post anything of this eMail

€: so for all those who don't believe me. I replied and asked if I may public the email...
