This does not seem to tbe the case for the VCCA however. Perhaps the views of George (Hipro5) or similar vmodders would be helpful in this matter.
when the vid pins are all high (the cpu grounds them depending on the stock voltage), the vcore cuicitry is told to provide 0v. the vcore is on the motherboard though, not adapter.

    *sniff* *sniff*

ahh, the smell of flux at 2am. :P

i soldered the pot on and set vcca to 2.33v. booted right up to 2.6. i played with it and was able to post at 2.8 !!!!!

that's the highest i've ever gone. i'll set vcca to around 2.8v and see where that gets me tomororw.

    i love you guys

and just fyi, the adapter supplies ~1v for vcca when the 1.2kohm resistor is missing.

i was getting confused because i was reading off of the wrong 533fsb jumper, but i've got that figured out now

Do the vcca/533 jumper first.......You find the max cpu/fsb bootable on that mod and start adding the ceramic capacitors around the adapter...This way we get a good final results as opposed to doing everything all at once and when something goes whack Rather hard to diagnosed.

you measure vcca on th 533mhz fsb jumper closest to the power plug.

there are the cap mods and the vcca mod. hippro has more, but hasnt shown us yet

i'd actually recommend that you do the mods all at once, then you don't have to risk cracking your die as much.

skirms, scroll down on this page and you'll be able to find how to do vcca mod.

cirthix, never ever fear cracking the core. It's probably whats holding your clocks back . Just think that your cpu is already dead or you hate is so much that it overclocks like a pos . It's what most of us if not all drive us to push it higher or find other ways to do mod to reach higher and have the best time doing so. After all this is our hobby.

the dies are fragile! i recommend removing the heatsink as little as possible. this is xtremesystems, not stupidsystems.

Those measurements look like what i got at stock, adjust away .

@akura, i'm just going to ignore what you said

and this cpu sucks. even with vcca at 2.7v, it still craps out at 228fsb in clockgen!

Completed the mods, adapters are posting, and OCing..... have yet to see what these can do, as we just finished the mods (did 3 adapters)

Here are some pictures showing the mods. All parts from DIGIKEY.

These were all hand soldered under a microscope capable of 90X magnification

Images are untouched, and not resized as I wanted to show as much detail as possible.

Yes the radial cap fits fine, It does hit the plastic mounting bracket, but who uses that anyway , I use threaded rod up through the 4 holes to hold down my water block (maze 4).

If you wanted to use that plastic bracket, you simply need to file a notch in it at that spot as its only 2mm too thick.

I notice that you've used tantalum electrolytic capacitors for all the cap points, have you confirmed with George (Hipro5) that this application is acceptable? I'm not sure if all the mod caps are OK if their polarised or not but I could be wrong Just something to check before you use it

Already Checked all the points with a dmm, and yes the caps are all polarized, The adpaters do work, here is the correct polarization of each spot:

    Hope that helps

Hi there, my first post here although I've been reading this board for many years !

I'd like to thank hipro5 and all the others for the mods, the VCCA mod is definetliy the killer one !

But, as I experienced, take care with this one. 2.9V is already high !

I've done the mod with 2 fixed resistors and a 1K 20-turn pot inline. The value is adjustable from 365 to 1338 Ohm. My thought was not to go over 3,3V but this is already way too much.

While I was testing the overclockability of my CPU I had the mod fully open (3.22V) During benchmarking I noticed a bit of an electric-burning smell. Later I took off the CT-479 to solder on the 12V cap and saw that a block of pins was black, and on the socket of my mainboard the corresponding pins were blackened too (see attached picture).

    The pins are :

    V3 - V6
    W3 - W6
    Y3 - Y5

I haven't found a datasheet to see what function they have but I think the burning has to do with the VCCA voltage.

    So, be warned

But the mod is really great. Without it I couldn't go over 230 FSB, now I am running at 9 x 301, perfectly stable and with a VCCA voltage of 2.65V. Luckily I didn't waist my board !

Hope it helps you guys, don't be as stupid as I am and take care with high VCCA voltages !
