I'm hoping ASUS or DFI will make a board with an extra custom bracket that when mounted makes the height difference between the cooler and the processor the same as with the old 478 models.. That would make them much more water- and phasecoolable for many

this board will be a disaster...

doesn't anyone remember then last 2-3 boards for dothans from Aopen?
they always look great, then come with bare bones bioses.
that have no overclocking features... then people mod the boards to hell... and they still suck.

I wouldn't get your hopes up on this board...
Aopen, has the worst track record possible for Dothans and such...

maybe this board will have no oc options, but it will encourage other mobo manufacturers to make yonah boards, and not all of them will be bad. (i hope)

i agree with eric, lets face it, the last aopen boards all looked really sweet and then turned out to be a pos... :/
well lets hope this ones better...

and afaik asus is working on a 945gt based yonah board, not 975x :/
but the asus board will at least have basic ocing options, pci locks and dividers etc guaranteed...

Mabye If DFI gives primary school children all the parts of the power system the children can actually make it stable, reliable, and make it so it wont fry your ~$1000 CPU.

I'm holding out for Asus or Abit.

I guess you should if you can't handle the DFI boards Asus are the best for stock, Abit used to be good but are a bit pants now imo. But for OC'ing DFI are light years ahead, you can't dispute that. As for frying CPU's... as long as you don't put stupid volts through it you'll be fine.

Cpus died on DFI even in the hands of experienced users and without using extreme voltage. I am not saying DFI is bad, it makes great boards, I had several DFIs myself. But Asus kills hardware too, quite a few dothan users know about asus killing memory

I hope DFi will do a similar board which overclocks like DFI usually does!

As Kiwi said, Asus doesn't have clean hands either when it comes to hardware which kills other hardware Just face it, DFI makes the most overclockable cards most of the times but they got a gift which made them to hardware assassinators

Just the news I was awaiting.

After reading Anandtechs preview of the Yonah my analyzes says that Yonah will conquer the enthusiast computers of the first half of 2006... if a overclockable desktopboard is released. Dothan allready overclocks to 2,8-3GHz - the 65nm should improve the max clock.

Look at the summary below - the performance is on par with Athlon64 X2 except in gaming, but since the framerates are below 100 the difference is on average in worst case ~5FPS and the Yonah system don't even have high performance DDR2....
Also keeping in mind that the Yonah use less power full loaded than a idling A64 X2 at same clock frequency makes it quite impressive.
Single thread performance compared to Dothan is increased as well...

    Summary of Anandtech preview

    • Yonah 2GHz (12x166) - DDR2-533 CAS4-4-4-12 - 945G chipset
    • Dothan 2GHz (15x133) - DDR2-533 CAS4-4-4-12 - 915G chipset
    • Athlon64 X2 2GHz (512kb L2) - DDR400 CAS2-2-2-7 - nForce4 SLI chipset
    • Athlon64 X2 2GHz (1024kb L2) - DDR400 CAS2-2-2-7 - nForce4 SLI chipset
    • Videocard : nVidia 7800GTX

Yonah is reference (100%) in all of the comparisions.

    - Overall system performance ( Winstone 2004, SYSMark 2004, Worldbench 5) :
    [ A64 X2 512kb: -0,56% ] - [ A64 X2 1024kb: +0,48% ] - [ Dothan: -12,7% ]

    - Professional Applications ( 3dmax7, Adobe Premier Pro 1.5, Adobe Photoshop CS2) :

    [ A64 X2 512kb: +2,33% ] - [ A64 X2 1024kb: +4,85% ] - [ Dothan: -2,62% ]

    - Gaming, 1280x1024 / BF2=1280x960 ( Battlefield 2, Black & White 2, Call of Duty, FEAR, Quake 4)
    [ A64 X2 512kb: +2,82% ] - [ A64 X2 1024kb: +4,62% ] - [ Dothan: -1,48% ]

    [ A64 X2 512kb: +1,98% ] - [ A64 X2 1024kb: +2,58% ] - [ Dothan: -0,5% ]

    - OVERALL AVERAGE ( excluding 1280x1024+1600x1200 gaming)
    [ A64 X2 512kb: -1,03% ] - [ A64 X2 1024kb: +0,26% ] - [ Dothan: -23,61% ]

You mean they didn't overclock really high. AOpen does not make POS motherboards.

    :O wow!

As far as mobos, Only time will tell the best one. I only do not preferr DFI because they are still new in the performance segment.

    Time will tell.

The blue is proberly a IDE controller of the southbridge meant for optical drives (commonly placed in the top of a case) where the yellow ones are from a 3rd party raid controller meant for harddrives wich is commonly placed low in a case.

So the angles of them will allow discrete wirring for the units they are meant for when looking at where these units are commonly placed.

After the release of the full ATX socket 479 AOpen board, I have a hard time looking forward to any of their products.

anyone have a price estimate on these and yonah's? I hope they aren't going to be high priced like Aopens Dothan boards.

Yeah, i figured it has a 3rd party IDE controller, it has 3 IDE channels after all.

The Inquirer have the prices per CPU when buying 1000 units.
    - Link

I also found a canadian site who have them in pre-order.
    • T2300 (1,66GHz) - 319$ - Link
    • T2400 (1,83Ghz) - 385$ - Link
    • T2500 (2,00GHz) - 548$ - Link
    • T2600 (2,16GHz) - 824$ - Link

I don't know if it's american or canadian dollars, but I pretty much expected these prices. I hope a 1,66GHz does 2,8GHz+ - a Dothan 1,73GHz nearly does and Yonah should be improved with 65nm process.
