Where did you get it?Quote:

Got my nice new gskill running at 280mhz without issues :) (2.7v 3-4-4-8)
I popped the IHS off my 165 CCBBE 0610, and it is a champ now. @ 1.6V's my load temps won't go past 45C. It's nuts. Air cooling too.
Hey Absolute, I got a question for ya. I put little square pieces of electrical tape at the corners of the core, stacks of four, cause I saw a post you put up in some forum saying it worked for you(in making seating of HSF or waterblock more stable). It's working good so far, but I was wondering if they stand the chance of melting and getting things messy...
got it from monarch.Quote:

No, it won't melt. The core is what gets hot and if you're running naked the core isn't really exceeding 40c, that won't melt the tape. Anyway the tape should be on the corners of the PCB and the PCB doesn't get as hot as the core it's maybe.... say 30c, which is equivalent to a hot day.Quote:

uhhh...i put them right at the corners of the core...not touching, but pretty close...the hottest my temps have gone is 45C, but I'm still worried.
Dont be, 45C under load is fine :)
Thats what I thought Blazin.Quote:

Or just sell it off?
sweet, thx. that's at 1.6Vs too. I'm "burning in" the proc now at 1.39V @ 2.8Gigs. I'm skeptical about this process, but anything to make voltage go down sounds good to me. I pretty sure this processor can hit 3Ghz, but it will either require to more voltage than i'm confortable with(>1.6V at present moment), watercooling(no money right now), or experimenting with the "burn in" effect...
I torture myne at 48° at 100% both core load and its perfectly stable at 2900 mhz @1.4v. I think ccb1e's are a bit warmer, yes. If i had the cojones to do the vcore mod, i would hit 3ghz on air i think (asrock 939 dual sata2). I tried it with a pencile (graphite) but the fans blow the graphite easily off.... :slobber:Quote:

Sorry to repeat myself, but anyone can confirm I can bath my "dead" 165 in lighter liquid to be sure it's absolutely clean?
I remounted it again after cleaning with Acetone and Artic Silver Thermal Surface Material Remover + Purifier and still dead :(
What bugs me is I see it perfectly clean, no bent/broken pins...
hahah, ah shiz.Quote:

dude, you're supposed to put the tape at the edges of the chip, not around the very centerQuote:

tape goes on the edges of the PCB, to make them higher, so when you mount your hsf it's harder to hit the core from an angle and chip it. No point in snuggling the tape right up against the core.

you may have, i was just pretty excited to see some new steppings finally popping up, especially since we were talking it about yesterday i think
whast the overclock data on the 0615?
there isn't any yet, but its a CCBBE, so i bet its nice :)
yep, CCBBE are pretty nice
I dont know how to handle this summer heat though. It doesn't get too hot in Northern California, but it's been getting to mid 70s outside and we got 5 computers on in the dorm room so it starts roasting. And because it doesn't get too hot usually, nobody around here has airconditioning. So we are pretty much left to open the window to air out the room lol.... let's just say i saw chipset temps 5c higher than they should be.
Right now i'm clocked back down to 3 Ghz with 1.38v and i'm loading just as hot as 3.15 Ghz with 1.53v used to load :(
