simple.. :D heating up your soldering iron..
Has anybody had any difficulty getting a 1.8 dothan to run in the AOpen mobo?
I swapped one for my 1.5 and keep getting a CMOS error ('Sumcheck' i think) and then it hangs in the post screen. Any ideas?
EDIT: Bit more info: I have been running a 1.5Ghz dothan in the AOpen mobo at 2.25 (with socket wire mod). Just got a 1.8Ghz one to get a higher multiplier to push things further. I updated to the latest BIOS and set everything to default. When my machine boots up it with the 1.8Ghz it will sometimes give me a post screen, other times i have to press Delete to get one. It recognises the CPU as a 1.8 and shows it as (18x100) but then gives me the CMOS error. When i press delete to get to the BIOS it reboots. Tried this with and without the socket wire mod.
As soon as i put the 1.5 back in it works fine.

Heya,
Can anyone here confirm that the various on-board hardware (audio, network, promise s-ata) works for all stable FSBs when fixing the AGP/PCI lock to 66/33 MHz using the beta version of ClockGen for the AOpen 855 board?
I don't want to buy another audio card, as I'm building a compact system, and I'm afraid of how an increased PCI speed could affect the other parts of the system. Also, I'd like to use my AGP card without glitches/lockups.

Has anybody managed to change multiplier? Is multiplier changeable? If you can change it, post it here... i would like to see how many... :D
because i "cannot" change multi.. WON'T LET ME...
However, I'm getting some deep sh#t (meaning very good) performance at impressive 125~ 130FSB lol... Getting 31,59x 3dmark score on an air cooled dothan at default xtpe clock is very heavily impressive. :D
I really can't complain low FSBs. It's way too fast already. I don't want high FSBs... :D
this is my 24/7 speed - a 15x multi on an 1800MHz Dothan

There is this one...Quote:

But its the only one I have ever found. Looks like a decent board.
EDIT:
Hmm... I see there are some ASUS boards as well. These might be better for overclocking...
wow, what a strange board :shrug:Quote:

Yes - you can overclock and keep the sound working - only with the clockgen tool though... If I overclock using the BIOS it craps out (funny that AOpen can't get the locks working but someone else can). I have some graphics pauses at some FSBs but have had the audio working fine right up to 180MHz (board or CPU isn't stable above that - I'm running a Banias CPU I bought cheap on ebay)Quote:

Should I go for the Aopen which I get for £149 or the DFI which will cost me £179. Looking to get the cpu stable about 133mhz so will running at 2100-2200mhz stable. I need the pci lock as I will be using a SATA maxtor hard drive and I know these like to be run bang on the 100mhz frequency to prevent data corruption.
Or should I just sell on the Dotan for £110+ and stick with my Winchester 3000+.

Okay, that'd be fine with me. I'm going to hold off doing that 'til the Soltek 855GEI-FGDR is released -- if it has a working AGP/PCI lock I'll get that instead. (I'd need to port ClockGen, or actually write something that works similarly, for the operating system I use, so I'd rather not mess with it if I don't have to. :)Quote:

I have Aopen i855Gmem-LFS and I havn't understand how can i lock the AGP/pci ratio..
you said the bios locking isn't working .. but i can't see any locking in the clockgen either.
venom, i beleive there is an updated (beta?) clockgen available somewhere (you may have to google), i'm not sure where
I searched all google :|Quote:

Just out of curiosity, (I know this thread is mainly dedicated to desktop OCing of Dothans), I am using clockgen for the Intel 845 (CY-something PLL) chipset on my laptop. The PCI/AGP frequency control is not present. I assumed this was a PLL issue, that this PLL cannot lock the AGP/PCI bus frequency. Just for kicks I checked cpuid.com, and it says there that "Some versions of clockgen do not support" AGP/PCI freq lock. Does this mean that there is the potential for a future release of clockgen for this PLL to support AGP/PCI freq lock?
It doesn't really matter since my laptop, being thin, lacks the cooling capacity to handle a large overclock (at 2Ghz CPU reaches 72C load-- not good), but it would be nice to squeeze 1.8 out of it (the CPU and cooling solution can handle this but video chipset can't render in 3d artifact-free anymore, likely due to the 125MHz FSB....).
So is the lack of AGP/PCI lock a software issue or does the PLL not support it at all?
Look back a couple of pages in this thread, sheesh.Quote:

And I really don't think i deserve a "sheesh". (you could just give me the link instead of that..)
hey all,
any new mobo's out?? Thinking of getting back in the Dothan pool when the water get's warmmmm...........
yeah, I am thinkking of going in there when Ct-479 is out :)
The URL to the beta-version of ClockGen that can indeed lock the AGP/PCI clocks on AOpen mainboards was posted in this thread a couple of pages ago. I cannot give you the link, because I have other things to do than searching for it for you. You will find it, however.Quote:
