Bad thing is with you having your vfsb so high that if you sit there and burn it in at that high spot 1.24 for 3.6GHZ it can burn it self into that spot and want to stay set that high but, it's ok it is your chip. I have mine set to 1.22 and it won't run below it now "overclocked I mean". I just figured if you are going to be running that low 3.6GHZ all the time then you might want to burn it into a lower spot then that, that's all.Quote:

Intel states and I think I have proven it "to my self atleast" that they are right, if you set it higher then what they recomend it will burn itself into liking that spot whatever you have it set to yada yada exc. and they say to be weary of this. I suppose it is not that big of a deal but, if you can get it to start liking a lower setting by hitting it with the lower setting right away, while burning it in, why not do that?

I really don't know what's happening, because if my memory doesn't fails me, even with all at default in bios (with other dram sticks) vista crashed after a few hours, even after all night running prime95 without errors :(

I'd like to use a little less vcore. Wich volts should I change?
Try increasing GTL 0/2 to 0.670x.
Fine tuning the GTL's can help reduce vcore a little when you get them right.

2.04 Vdimm and 1.381 Vcore failed 1-2 itenerations each time :confused:, rebooted reran 1.94 Vdimm, passed..Tried other rams... passes... upped Vdimm : failed bummer...
Started messing with the all the voltages but only a bit more Vcore helped me to pas the Linpack test 3 times in a row with zero failures...(for each ram set) I'm really puzzled here... will try the same on the other deluxe this week.
So to pass with 2.04Vdimm on 1406 I needed to up the Vcore to 1.387 (not 1.386 as in the piccie, that's a typo)

Upgraded last night to 1406. Kept the same settings as 0803. With CME set to Performance. Passed linpack (10x). And Prime95-Blend 8hrs+.

Yeah I finally passed Prime myself and was happy like damn it's about time I actually passed prime on this board. That was the firs time I have passed it with this board. I could always pass IBT.

Don't use Auto as it increases it too much. Well at least it used to. Just bump it up one notch so you have fixed voltage instead Auto. That should do it.

Try a linpack test mate, it will prolly give errors... prime isn't 100% bulletproof, neither is Linpack but it's stresses harder...

30 cycles of Linpack at max memory, should give a pretty high confidence of stability...and it completes in a fraction of the time an 18 or 24 hour prime95 blend does...great Linpack interface here. Sorry, I should have mentioned that...by max memory, it's the max memory you can get away with without linpack crashing...the available memory calculations on the interface are still off...so you have to dial it down until it works...Quote:

Known limitation of the Linpack proggy in 32bit OS environment... choose either half the ram or a custom value like you did... Ok been on here lurking and trying to figure this thing out. My components consist of an E8400 stepping C0, P5Q Deluxe, and 2x2 Gig of Corsair Ram. I have been really struggling with this cpu for some time now, even with my old P35 Platinum P.O.S MSI board. The cpu is crap and very unstable @ anything ove 4 Ghz. Here are my current settings that are actually stable for quite some time now. Could use a little more help with the advanced settings such as NB GTL, FSB Termination Voltage, CPU GTL etc. I have tried some of the settings recommended here but as you will notice my voltages are quite a bit higher then most. Well well, I've found out what makes my system BSOD on cold boots -- it's because of my external HDD connected to the eSATA port! I noticed the other day that that every time the system BSODs upon boot, I could hear the external HDD was active. So I tried disconnecting it the next day, and voilá! No BSOD. So I've come to the conclusion that Windows BSODs when the external HDD (WD MyBook2 1TB) turns itself on, which happens when Windows is half-way done loading. When the system reboots the HDD is already running, so Windows loads fine. I tried enabling boot ROM for the Marvell IDE/eSATA controler in the bios, but that just makes the system hang after POST, and will not boot until I've restarted the sytem around 3 times.
So yeah, after all this time spent trying to figure out what it was, it was the damn eSATA controller. I guess my only option is to buy a PCI controller and use that instead? I'm a bit disappointed that this Marvell controller is that bad, because I hoped it was better than the Jmicron controller that was on my previous motherboard (but alteast that didn't make my system BSOD!).
Asus seem to be breaking a lot of things in BIOS releases to date, try my 704m for your board, its about the most complete un-bugged BIOS. Due to the mods I have done to it as well, you won't be missing much in the way of compatibility and fixes (that don't break other things :D)

No, I've not tried that. I'm using the IDE port for my DVDRW though, will that still work as well? Although I suspect it doesn't have anything to do with drivers as it BSOD's before Windows is loaded. But thanks for the suggestion, I'll try uninstalling the drivers and see what happens. :)Quote:

When I set up my system for the first time, I was reusing my Plextor 760A IDE DVD burner in the IDE port. The Marvel IDE port was enabled in the BIOS.
Plextor jumper stayed as Master, connected to 80 pin cable correctly.
When I pressed the power button on the MB, the cpu, video card fans started, heard the short "OK" beep, but then nothing came onto the screen, no pOST messages.
After trying different IDE cables, with the same results, I removed the IDE cable from the motherboard, and when I powered the system up again I got the POST screen OK after the short "OK" beep!
Fortunately I also have a LiteOn SATA DVD burner that I connected and there was no problem with that and I was able to instal the OS.
I even flashed to newest BIOS-1406 Still the same problem!
Is there anyone out there that has had success with a Plextor Px-760A on their P5Q Deluxe?
I read on other post that said that since IDE function is not on the newer Intel chipsets anymore, the IDE functions are handled by separate chipsets on the mb ie Marvell and others. And that alot of times these separate chips don't recognize optical IDE drives well.
The Plextor drive works fine on my DFI Infinity 975x/g MB!
Well, after the weird BIOS reset on reboot problem, I reconfigured my BIOS several times with no luck. I even tried some of the user posted ones and most wouldnt even boot. I finally decided to just scap everything and start my OC from scratch and reset the BIOS and just left everything on auto and pushed it until couldn't take it no more.
So far I'm at 3.6GHz (8 x 450) 12hrs Prime95 blend stable with only a few adjustments.

All the rest are on auto or default setting. I was pleasantly surprised to get 3.6GHz on this BIOS (1406) as it was very difficult on all previous BIOSes I tried. The CPU runs super hot as usual, but it seems stable with little effort. My core max. temps were 67,67,75,73 using HW Monitor and were about the same with previous BIOSes.
I am very happy with 3.6 and all I ever wanted out of this chip. I may play around and try for 3.7, which I could never get more than a couple hours prime95 stable before, just for kicks.

ps. I've got a few spare bux burning a hole in my wallet. I've been thinking of replacing this 9450 for one of the newer E0 stepping CPUs. Is it worth it for the cooler temps. also, I have water cooling on this beasts and I'm still super hot! Also, is it worth the extra bucks to get the 9550 or 9650, or will I get much on a speed increase?

I have a Plextor PX-712SA Sata burner, not IDE, but I have the Marvel IDE disabled in bios and run Enhanced IDE in bios in the storage section. I am running off the Red Sata ports tho. No problems here. I think the Marvel IDE works with the AHCI ok, but not too swift with the IDE when its enabled. At least that is what I have read on a few posts on forums.Quote:

I'd try dropping the Multi and increasing the FSB. I can't get a whole lot stable without a low divider. Also you might want to try increasing FSB Termination voltage to around 1.19 - 1.22.
If all else fails, you prolly just got a bum chip for an E0. My C0 requires the same for 4.0 what's your VID?

He had alot of issues looked like.. Try changing what I suggested where I quoted you above. Actually I made a mistake as well. recheck that quote I fixed it on the memory part. If you run 1:1 you have to use PL 10. If you can pull 333 or 266 strap where it isn't 1:1 then you can do PL 8 sorry bout that one.Quote:

well the template above with tRFC 25 works like a charm for 4x1gb kit.. so the major difference might be..
u may actually lower the vNB... and keep a high tRFC .
also a good practise after u completedthe multi 9 bus 445 and set the fsb to 533 above.. when ure bios boots.. keep pressing tab etc.. and enter windows mem diagnostic mode..
and run like 5 runs etc just to make sure ure NB/ ram are ok... before u boot into windows.. cause it would be pointless.

Well I plan on checking memory but I think it should be fine, I've run it at divider without even knowing a few times. But to be sure... what are they rated as? DDR 1066 MHz or? How much is it in FSB? Damn this used to be a lot simpler back in the days ;)

I think you are running a Q6600 ? Which ram in fact ? Habe you verified the ram voltage with a Digital Multimeter... If your board overvolts the ram as my 2 Dlx do with about 0.08 you are almost pushing 2.3 volts through the ramQuote:

I tried and tried and no go, than my rig wouldn't even post so I set everything to default, dropped multi to 8.5, and now I'm running Prime at 475 FSB and 4.12 GHz with no sweat and lower temps... Where I couldn't even run it for a 10 minutes at 450 x 9.
Are there any cons to running high FSB and lower multi but higher clocks?
And it BSOD :/ Damn thing :) Gonna try and tweak a bit, as most of the stuff is at AUTO. But still, are there any cons? Also what settings are good for lower multi but higher FSB?
Quick question. Regarding "PCIE SATA Voltage". 1.6v too high/dangerous? Recommended setting?

So normal size ram fits, I would opt for eg for the Gskill PC8000PQ kit ( blue ones) they are dead cheap to 1080-1130Mhz too... running on my main rig at 450FSB with 1120Mhz ram speed 5-5-5-15-55 1.94volts (bios setting)
If you run the dimms in the 2 furthest slots think it will be single channel ops and bandwith will be reduced... Asus board tend to have one simm slot inbetween...channel A are the yellow ones, black channel B...

The slots I was talking about using were 2 black ones (rather than the far yellow and black) so just leaving the 2 yellows empty - so that should still be running in dual channel (i believe) but for some reason I get the feeling i read somewhere (no idea where or how creadible) that the using the black slots was somehow worse than the yellows - was just not sure by how much (or at all).
