I have the P5Q pro stable at 8.5x500 with an E8400 on bios 0901. Basically at first no amount of tweaking could get 500mhz stable it would constantly BSOD but I upped the cpu voltage to 1.4v and it was rock solid stable but what was weird is that it would need 1.4v even at 6x500 the high FSB needs the cpu volts unlike my P35 board.Quote:

As far as i know it's probably an issue related to the cpu(fsb)<->nb<->mem communication, those three elements should be synchronized to get the Blend test on and w/o errors, i tried with "appropiate" voltages on every related element but it's not responsing well ... that's what i think it can be a BIOS issue (mostly a Mem Strap, Mem Clock Skew or the CPU GTL's) or a simply FSB Wall (but i highly doubt this since it benched at 4.5-4.6 w/o any problem in the past)Quote:

Lastly, I can't get the asus probe program to work. I get a "abnormal program termination" error whenever I try to launch it. Is there any other compatible software to adjust CPU fan settings with?
I am about to give up on mine, might even return to the 680i i had before. CPU ran flawless at 4100Mhz and now i can't get it past 3600 stable. Tried everything even pushed VCORE to 1.45, NB to 1.50, tweaked GTL, tried different FSB speeds and RAM settings... just no go :down:
This E8400 needed 1.42 volts on the nVidia motherboard for 4100Mhz, thought it would need a tad less to do the same here but apparently not even 3800... Runs incredibly stable at 1.2v when clocked at 3600Mhz though.... weird.

Thid board does easily 500FSB with a wolfdale and 4ghz too if ya setup/hardware combo is good...
I would seriously reconsider ya mount of ya cooler... bios doesn't (normally) influence coretemp readouts... no option for command rate to my knowing... and ya Asus proggie error could be due to a bad ram setup and or corrupted install...Quote:

You need to set the sb to 1.2 so it doesn't overvolt for one. and 1.6 on pcie and try 1.58 on cpu pll.
How do you mean set sb at 1.2 so it don't overvolt?? It is at 1.1 so will 1.2 (.1 higher) actually stop it overvolting??Quote:

then test Small FFT's for a while... if all okay go with blend... if one core caps out just up a bit more Vcore... you got a 65nm CPU they love voltage better than 45nm

I have been trying to hit 3.4ghz at under 1.4 CPU vcore and so far am unstable after about 20mins in prime95(large FFT test). I have tried 10x340, 9x378 and 8x425 with a FSB strap of 266 and auto. I have left all my other voltages on auto. I don't know what to put for..

Try the settings first, maybe we can bump up to 3.4-3.6 later on... but I think you need better cooling for the quad to keep it cool or run the Zalman flat out...
I just want to know the Vcore required for 3.2ghz... hopefully at or below 1.3Vcore , but that's for you to find out... by testing it a lot... I usually let the CPU run Prime Small FFT's for an hour if it passes I lower Vcore and test again... till it fails, then bump up one or two settings...
If ya find ya correct Vcore then try to run it with eg PLL not at 1.6 but at 1.56, if it fails then go up to 1.58 and test again... it takes some time to know what ya CPU likes and sadly there's no general rule, surely not with 45nm, 65nm is way easier :)

Try 8 x 400 plz with my settings... with this setting you can also run your ram at 1066Mhz if you wish... higher FSB is always better than lower FSB with higher multi for rambandwith... I would try to find out the lowest stable values for eg 3.2 with PLL and co... and then try to go higher on CPU speed... but keep them cores below 65°C plz...
Jesus, Leeghoofd, i don't know what kind of magic was in your settings, but the PC is oh so completely different now!
I guess it was a mix of things which i won't have the patience to look up (still suspicious of something RAM related), but whatever, it's working perfect now!!! I'm just gonna tweak it up a bit more, make sure it's perfectly stable and then i'll post my results here. Meanwhile i can put some voltages i measured while testing:
- vNB in BIOS: 1,20, measured with Digital Multimeter - 1,24 (Increased 0,04v)
- vDRAM in BIOS: 2,22, measured with Digital Multimeter - 2,30 (Increased 0,08v)
- vFSB in BIOS: 1,16, measured with Digital Multimeter - 1,16 (No Vdrop)
Tested PRIME95 SmallFFTs and Blend plus 3DMark2006 - no worries @ 4050Mhz.

1.3125 failed after 9mins. Now trying 1.3250, update soon:)
Edit: 1.3250 has passed 1hour of small FFT's, I would drop down to 1.31875 but I am about to crash for the night and am going to go ahead and let prime95 continue to run overnight at 1.3250 just to make sure its rock stable. Update you tomorrow with the results, thanks again for you help :)
One thing that I don't understand is why some people aren't using that anti-vDroop feature (load-line-calibration)?
I use it on a P5K-E and think it's neat, it doesn't prevent vDrop but totally works wonders with vDroop.
I never saw any disadvantage to it myself so interested to know why some people are hesitant to enable this feature?
I'm not a fan of it myself. It's easy to compensate for vdrop, and Intel included vdrop for a reason. And they know a lot more about these things than I do.
Sure LLC is handy if you run out of vcore options, but these boards can be set to over 2v in BIOS and very few of us will ever go that high.

I'm not sure if people are afraid to use LLC. Very few people understand the idea behind vdrop and why Intel demand that boards have it. damn, i got a problem, i can get 475 fsb overnight stable with OCCT, but i can't get even 455 to be Crysis (ingame, not the benchmark) stable >< in fact 475 fsb is more stabel then 455 in Crysis (i can play 10-30 min on 475 and 1 min on 455)

Also which videocard ? PSU are you using ? and really aim for 3.8-4ghz or such that's already enough for an E7200...
So should I be messing with my cpu and mem clock scews at the bottom of the page or messing with my voltages to get my memory blend stable because my small ffts are flawless. That means my cpu voltages are fine right?

Leeghoofd, I accidentally misread your settings! I just noticed that you suggested leaving loadline on "auto". I had been using your settings but with "loadline" enabled. Now I have got my system to pass 1 hours of small FFT's at 1.3125 and it failed after 4 mins on 1.30625. So actually I can run my system slightly below 1.325 with your exact settings. Now I am ready to go higher hopefully to 1.34 or 1.36 but I think I need your input before I try anything. Thank you again sir, I am really happy you helped me!
Edit: Even though it passes 1.3125 on small FFT's I can't get it to pass large FFT's for longer then 6 mins. I am bumping my memory up a bit and try but I have had it pass 20+ memtests at 5-5-5-15 2.0v so maybe my NB and VTT voltages are a bit to low?
Edit#2: I bumped my VTT up to 1.32 and my NB to 1.3, lowered my PLL to 1.54 and everything seems ok for the moment. Leeghoofd I have seen some things about the PLL voltage being set about 1.55 being dangerous is it safe to play around at 1.6?

Think you ar epushing ya rams way to far... Like Tony said P45 seems to have some issues with signal strengths with 2gb dimms to get them going the same way as eg X38/48... you are pushing for max speed etc... but are loosing stability big time with ya settings... If stability is not increased try to mess with the ram skews... you cannot have it all...2gb dimms just don't clock as easy as 1Gb dimms... some peeps have good kits , mine top out around 1120mhz... awaiting the new Gskill PC9600 4gb kit...
With 45nm I would be easier on the voltages but even 1.7 is considered safe for 65nm but I stick with max 1.6 for 24/7 ops on 65nm... CPU VTT or FSB Term voltage is the so called dangerous setting for 45nm... They advise to stay below 1.4 at all times , for 65nm they support better higher volts so even there 1.4 is no prob... but if you can run it at eg 1.52 keep it there...Quote:

Ok, well 1.54 failed large FFT's after 17mins. I am back to 1.6PLL and still at 1.32VTT and 1.3NB. Is all this ok? With your settings I was passing small FFT's all day but when I switched to large FFT's I got quick failures at 1.3125. Is there anything else? Also I am kind of scared about turning off CPU TM and setting PCIE to 101 instead of 100 I have heard 101 can damage your video card, is that just a preference or is that something that is vital to keeping stability. I have some seriously weird behavior from my P5Q-Dlx, and need some advice.
After a lot of trial and error I finally got it to post with my E8400. With default settings loaded, cpu-z reported the system to be running 6*333. Trying to set the multiplier manually fails, it always reports 6*. Only way I could get 3 ghz, was by running 6*500, wich seemed stable in OCCT and 3D Mark 06.
My setup consists of the following:
P5Q-Dlx, bios 0704
E8400
2x1 gb G.SKILL F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ
Asus 7900 GT
OCZ 600W StealthXStream
Questions:
1. I never get any BEEP codes on the power-on self test. This is not correct?
2. Any idea whats up with the cpu multiplier?
Toreide have you disabled C1E support ? doesn't the multi go up when you run eg Prime or such ?

Sorry, I just found OCCT 2.0.0a on the web, is that the latest version? I run a lot of CPU intensive stuff, mainly chess playing programs that use 100% on all 4 cores constantly. I want to make sure my system is rock stable so what are your suggestions as far as testing. I am guessing that running small FFT's in prime are good to determine minimum vcore. To test NB,and memory as well I used to test largeFFT's in prime but now that I have OCCT should I just run it for like 12-18hours instead?
I use memtest86+ v2.01 the one that boots from a cd. I was about to change these settings in bios, but now I think I will leave NB at 1.26 like you say. As far as the others go, what do you think?Quote:

Sound like a good plan?

Damn I'm making reverse progress here. I'm just looking for 3.8Ghz on my e8400 and p95 is crashing. I'm at 445 x 8.5 with 1.3625 5:4 CL-5 ratio etc. (DRAM 2.02, PPL 1.58, VVT 1,58, NB 1.28). Anyways, I think it's my 0605 BIOS, so what's the best, STABLE version to upgrade to? Thanks

If you didn't make any typos setting PLL to higher value would actually mean lower value :s
Then again I can't see why setting those values to default values manually on bios would make any harm. Auto setting would set same values (or even higher because of OC). But it's good to know if I try higher OC later :)

After one week in 3,6 for Q6600 now mobo boots only with default settings .
It boots normally but when windows blue bar appears freeze for one sec and after restart.
I hear some noise at the boot time (klik- klik DVD-ROM is disconnected)
Is my HDD dead??
Unlucky the western digital check disk utility runs only in 32 bit win I have XP-64

Clicking noise from the HD's is an indication that's it's dying ... I had it with one Samsung and a Fujitsu drive... start the pc and go straight into bios if it starts to click then ( just spinning not laoding anything) you can bet it's a dead HD soon...Quote:

EDIT2: Thanks for the info. Pumbed voltages bit over normal voltage and feel much safer now. It still doesn't make any sense why it behaves same way as AUTO if you set it manually to default value.
