Anyway, I need to rescind what I said earlier about the beta BIOS. I must have gotten some lucky work units when folding with my previous OC (for over a week!?). Since I griped, I flashed back to the 710 BIOS and it's still not stable. Raised Vcore one notch and it's fine. Seems I spoke too soon. After this folds for a few days, I'll flash back to the new BIOS whenever I get a minute and see if it's stable.
hmmm, i only had to set about 1.35 to 1.36 Vcore to my E8500 to hold 4255 Mhz and that made it prime 95 stable for about 2 hour run...i was on air.Quote:

EDIT:...sorry mate, i made an error in Mhz achieved doing a 2 hour run with P95...it was 4255 Mhz...here is the slide...the Vcore shown there has the Vdroop already built in...so...set voltage in the bios was about 1.35 to 1.36V.
The thing is Ace, i never had to push this much ...i was on DICE when i did 600FSB on my DFI...and there i only pushed 1.552v to my cpu...but then my NB on my DFI, i had pushed 1.84v which was on stock heatpipe.

I joined this forum because I found this thread on Google and read all 50+ pages TWICE. (Nice Thread)
Anyway I currently have this motherboard and a Q9550 E0 for a system I am putting together for my kid for Christmas. I have the system put together using the stock cooler and such while I wait for the rest of my goodies to arrive. So far 3.6 Ghz is not a problem using stock voltage... but becomes unstable due to heat.
I will be following this thread and updating as soon as time permits.
This is my first quad build and I am in love... will be upgrading my personal rig with a Q9650 (and probably a Gigibyte boad) in January or so but thats a topic for a different thread.
I am also doing the heatpipe bolt mod listed in this thread.

right now i'm at 4.2ghz stable tested with intelburntest after (maxs stress 1) 5 passes but failed orthos after 38mins fft's cpu stress..I don't know why that happen that you pass 1 but not the other:shrug: but. I left the setting where they are another thing..I tryed loosen up the memory & adjusting volts

Well, I'm at +.225Vchipset and auto on vFSB at 500 x 8.5. Shouldn't need any more than that. Raising them past that won't help you get to 4.3GHz on the CPU. Since you're already running your memory below its rated speed, loosening the timings won't help. Vdimm is about .1v over what you need even for their rated speed, much less below that.
Also, sorry to say if it fails either IBT or Orthos, it's not stable. Guarantee if you tried to fold with that OC, it'll crash (please don't try).
You may need to go to +0.150v on vcore... I'm now testing a E8600 at 475x9 beacause it appears the chip needed the bump from +0.125v to be long term stable. I was also looking at 478x9 with this chip (+0.150 vcore) but my first attempt failed and I've now backed off to 475.Quote:

It looks like with this E8600 that I'm testing if I want to run 4.3... I may have too. An individuals comfort level with voltages will vary from person to person. I would prefer to run +0.125v for 24/7 but I think I'm willing to run +0.150v as well. I feel it is close enough to the Intel 1.3625v recommended max. I don't think my chip will degrade. I've been running my 8600 at 1.44v since september. Not a hint of instability since. I've actually picked up 50mhz over what I was initially getting (4.55 vs 4.5) with some cooling upgrades. Run what you're comfortable with though...Quote:

Well I have had fun with this board for the last couple of days. Reached 3.8 Ghz stable with my q9550 using 1.4 volts 450x8.5, but was having CPU heat issues. I had planned on trying to re-seat the xigmatek cooler today.
I fired up prime 95 to do a quick run and the computer died midway through the 3rd test. I unplugged the power supply and all the cables to the motherboard and popped out the battery, reset bios... still no luck.
I am aware that another user brought his board back to life by letting it sit for a few days but I don't have time for that because this is to be a christmas present so I am off to newegg to have a gigabyte EP45-UD3P board overnighted to me as they are out of stock locally. If the board comes back to life I will probably try it in my C2D rig.
Edit: Plan on testing power supply tonight Edit # 2 Tested power supply.. its the motherboard.. I hope.. and not the CPU.
aight working with vcore to get the lowest volts to keep it stable
all around..I took the BioStar TPower from +0.125v/1.336v down to
+0.100v/1.296v and ran Orthos & intelburntest passing:up:I'm gonna

Findings are that this board doesnt have the full capability to tweak the ram enough to get WR results for Super PI...unless running LN2 or Dice cooling, which i highly dont it will aswell be able to
DFI will always be better due to having these options

Here is where I'm at now with this chip. Using +0.150v vcore I wanted to try and get 9x479 DDR2-1150 stable but Prime will error out within 2hrs. I've now dropped it back to 477 and it looks like it has stabilized. I'm using the Xigmatek Red Scorpion and one kit of Cell Shock PC2-8500.

1) if u plan to run IBT test......do it under diagnostic mode. cuz u need to stress at least 1500mb of memory for it to be stable. anything less than that (regardless how many runs) would not be so stable.....trust me

What for do you need voltmods? Mine did not have vdroop and it has a plenty of room for adding volts? Unless you are going to use LN, but in taht case you should look up for your soldering tools....Quote:

Sometimes when trying an overclock (after restart) I will see the computer turn off fans/lights and sit for a second or two and then try to power back on. Now when I am trying a new OC sometimes it will loop this action over and over. Why is the lights/fans turning off during a restart? I've never seen a board act like that before.
I have also noticed that sometimes when I boot into Vista Business x64 (a lot of the time actually) I'll see some black screen tearing at the login screen for a split second and then it goes away and I don't see it again until the next restart.

No problem. Yes, I meant chipset voltage. That clock speed issue is going to show up on some things(3dmark, etc.). CPU-Z should show it correctly though. If you don't care for that, you should be able to back the FSB down and set the memory speed to a higher ratio and the cpu multiplier higher.Quote:

If I put my 2gb of Team Xtreem memory in I can get it to boot into windows @ 4.9ghz but if I try to run a 1m SuperPi it reboots.
Memory is currectly PC2-8000 G.Skill and I can say I'm not overly impressed as overclocking headroom past 1000mhz is very small.
Sounds like you'll need more vcore, fsb, or chipset voltage for that one...or maybe better cooling(dunno what you have). Whether you like to push past that vcore is up to you.Quote:

I also had this discussion with another board member already, the 4pin 12V molex connector on the board is for the GPU. If you are running a dedicated 12V rail/6pin PCI-E connector why do you need to run a 4pin molex to the board? Here is what the Mobo Manual says: ""This connector is an aux power connection for graphics cards. Exclusive power for graphics cards provides better graphics performance"" Nothing about that makes me think I need to plug it in for better OCing or stability. For some reason I keep getting random square grid artifacts and display driver stopped responding errors. I plugged in that 4pin molex, but it doesn't seem to have helped anything. What is causing this problem? My old ASRock Dual SATA-II had no problem with running this card at 870/2106/2000, I have tried three different drivers and nothing has helped.

The clocks on the card don't have any effect on the artifacts, however I did manage to drop my volts on CPU from 1.38V to 1.25V and my load temps came down 18C due to this:

Ledhead....this board is crap....that why to run something stable without maybe possibly killing my cpu or ram is amazing...I mean voltage wise ive been able to scale is right back instead of running like 1.5v into the cpu and 2.4v in the ram..
But all in all im selling this in about 2 weeks. Getting a DFI, a real board with real performance increases, with safer voltage increments
I agree, the voltage settings are absurd. Especially when you need smaller increments at higher overclocks. It kills me to have to raise the CPU and Memory voltage higher than I know it needs to be for the setting I want. I've also been looking at a DFI, the LT X48 DDR2 version.
I can't figure out why you're having so much trouble on this board. I'm thinking you must have a defective board or something (it's been know to happen, a few crap ones) because 600fsb with an e84 should be a breeze on this thing. Did you ever post your settings when trying to reach 600fsb?Quote:

I still use the DFI as my main machine, why did you get rid of it? I45 is in a stack near the closet, but it will bench again! You can see a bunch of 6gb+ runs with it in my hwbot profile. I have to set up again to do 32m though, now you got me curious.

Yea we get really bad lightning over here...our house got hit 3 times the other night
when I sent my board in for RMA (the NB mosfets exploded at 5.2GHZ E7300) they sent me one back and it was missing a few CAPS, I added some really high capacity caps and WHAM! it works just fine in fact I have been able to give the NB higher volts this time mainly I think from the better caps.Quote:

Thanks guys...Dro. Um yea i thought it was really hard until you basically put your camera on a tripod and shot a a 30second Shutterspeed. Thats why I was able to get not one strike but multi strikes within that 30sec shutter release...Shutter opens for 30's and then closes after 30 secs. Then takes about 30 seconds to process the image on the camera.Quote:

I am in Minnesota, USA. We also have lightning like that in the summer. Everything I have that can be damaged by a surge is protected, including the phone system and even my wifes sewing machine. What is the size of the fan on the I45 Chipset cooler?

I might remove the fan since the 120mm fan in the antec 900 is right next to it. Then let it run "passive" even though theres a 120mm fan next to it.
That's partly why I didn't stress it. it's right next to the 120mm rear fan on my Cooler Master RC690. On top of that, it has the Sythe Ultra Kaze (3000RPM noisemaker) blowing right on it through the Big Typhoon. I think the PWM is getting plenty of cooling. :DQuote:

No one I know since Lvcoyote did. IIRC, they thanked him for his input, but they did send him the beta that lets you disable the Marvell controller (and get rid of the annoying RAID message) and adds some additional RCOMP configurations (you can get it here if you don't have it already).Quote:

It's an LGA-775 cooler, so yes, it's compatible. One thing to keep in mind is that the CPU is closer to the top of the board than some others. If you have no clearance at the top of your case, you may have to mount it horizontally.Quote:

I would say that TRUE and TRU 90 is a bit similar in size a few more ..

Just got my i45, with an e7300, (small budget)
Im using a TRU120 (non extreme) with a zalman F3, Im running at 3.6 (450x8) at 1.272v (havent tried any lower)
However, for 4GHz (10x400), or 4.05GHz I needed 1.416v, (not stable)
What do you think I should be able to get? (both max and 24/7)
tried for 4.5GHz (10x450), and it got just after the loading bar for windows before crashing,a nd that was at 1.56v!
