I sold mine now. Its just to picky with memory. And i got 5 DDR3 Kits here.
I got a single sided D9JNL (Supertalent) Kit too and it didnt like it either.
They only memory this boards likes is imo D9GTS.
I spend nights on the P5Q3 and never got over FSB 544 and DDR3-17XX. What a pain in the a**.
Got a P5E3 Premium and am reaching FSB 620 Strap 400 CPC2 and FSB600 Strap 333 CPC1 within 2 Hours of playing.
On the P5E3 Premium these run with DDR3-2000 CL9 with just 2,01 VDimm. (Cellshock D9GTR)
The only decent P45 & DDR3 Board i know off remains the EP45T Extreme.
Made a quick build. WORKED ON FIRST BOOT. Excellent Motherboard.
Depends where u want to go. For a Quad it is ok.
For Dual Core and > DDR3-1800 without D9GTS it is not good.
The thing i liked most about it was it is feature-rich and the chipset cooling is good.
If you dont own D9GTS and want to get a Dual Core FSB 550 or more and still have dual channel memory it is a bad choice.
Depends on where you want to go?You can say that about every motherboard. Come on, like as if it hasn't been massacred enough on on the web...
onboard Audio SNR is good, Wi-Fi performance is great...

hi guys, i just tried out with my new settings, so far so good all suggestions are welcomed :)
most of settings in bios are on auto.
cpu pll 1.6
nb 1.44
ram 2.02
Try this.
500 x 9x (4.5)
Vcore: 1.3875(Bios)
cpu pll : 1.56
ram: 1.96
nb: 1.30
sb: 1.4
fsb: 1.36(if that doesn't work, then go for 1.40)
Now, for memory, use 7-7-7-18 timings and choose 1668 I think. or whatever is closest.
I am running this currently and have not had any issues. Actually, in Bios my Vcore is 1.35. Start at 1.3875 and adjust up or down as needed.
I was able to get 10980 MB/s read in everest with that.
I'm not sure what your cooling is, but that may slow you down a bit. I am running on water but to be honest, my Q9550 running the same volts on my other PC with the same MB is producing similar heat and that is with a Xigmatek S-1283
I tried 450 x 10x with memory running at 1800MHZ 8-8-8-21 2.04V and it performed worse(Everest) than the first set up I gave you.
Let me know how it turns out.
I was wondering about this. I have been able to hit 540 FSB without much trouble, but nothing over that. I thought that was the FSB wall. I'm glad to hear I'm not crazy.
I've only been able to clock the memory to about 1800 as well. Maybe a bit more than that, but not even close to 1900 MHz. It's ok for me though. 1800 MHz is enough for now.
Thanks for the info.
thx lukee will give it a shot. i'm watercooled too
not much luck lukee ... here are my bios settings i hope more of us will be able to share their knowledge and settings .. i tried your setting and others too , didnt work out for me (i kept on getting auto restarts) but so far im happy for now compared to before and i managed to snap my bios settings ... ;) the settings i have posted works for me now and more importantly it's stable (will slowly tweak it) .. hope the next bios will be much better for us. i also managed to lower my cpu voltage cpu core now at 1.3v and temps are 1-2c lower my ambient is 28C.
Cool. If what I gave you doesn't work, increase the CPU voltage a bit. I'm going off of my memory(which may not be a good thing. lol).
when I get home tonight I'll take some pics of my bios so you can see.
Autostarts is probably due to not having enough voltage.
Are you running 433 x 10 atm?
You should be able to hit 500 FSB without any trouble. We have the same memory, CPU and MB. The temps might be a bit high for your liking, but certainly 4.5 is doable.
For your current setup, remove auto and use these numbers.
FSB Termination: 1.24
NB Voltage: 1.28
SB Voltage: 1.4 might even be able to do 1.3
CPT GTL Voltage Refernece: .067 for both of them
DRAM voltage seems a bit high for 1734. You can probably get away with 1.96. Not major, but when you have some time and everything else is stable, try lowering this a bit.
From what I gave you earlier try this. 500 x 6 and see if you can get that to boot. If you can't then it may be the memory timings. I can't remember which strap it is, but you are shooting for 1668 or so MHz @ 7-7-7-18 1.9 or 1.96V
If you can get 500 x 6 to boot, then you just need to increase CPU voltage a bit until it boots.. you can always try 1.4 and work from there.
thx alot for your help lukee will try 2moro and see what happens ... will also wait for your bios settings ... i think it's due to cpu voltage ... my target is 5ghz and 2000mhz on the ddr3's hope i'll get there some day ...
Good luck. Someone posted hitting 2000MHz with their memory, but it was with their 5th pair of sticks. The first 4 couldn't do it. I have 2 sets and haven't been able to get past 1800 MHz myself. Hopefully your memory will clock a little better.
i was thinking of trying to hit 5 GHz just for :banana::banana::banana:s and giggles, but to be honest, the only thing I want is a nice 24/7 OC. I'm close to it with 500 x 9, I just have to do more tweaking, but I'm also trying to level in Warhammer online. lol
Dunno if it helps or I just lucked out and got a good p45 chip. Bios is 1103, it came with the mobo.
hi guys, i managed to snap my bios settings ... bios is 1406 and there are some very minor improvement from my previous settings, hope this helps others and awaiting some advise from the pros out there. thx in advance.
~lukee~ i tried the settings you gave me but didn't work out well for me but with settings on auto it is stable ... i'm still scratching my head over here and try to go further with my system, as for now it is my 24/7 system and running stable for now ;)
Can you run Pi 32M stable? If not, those results don't mean :banana::banana::banana:.
I also got something like 7-7-7-18 cr2 @ pl8. pl8 is the minimum if you want stability. I know some here don't give a flying :banana::banana::banana:. My vMem is @ 1.98. Today I'll try 7-6-5-15 @ DDR-1800 1.9v... with orthos over 12 hours. If this board can do that, I might foget about the P5E3 Premium...:ROTF:
Are you brute-forcing, using trial and error...? Do you employ any kind of methodology in your quest for more Hz... There seem to be some contradictions in your BIOS settings... Maybe you're being lied to. Some people have a problem sharing info after putting in their fair share of hours trying to figure things out, making small increments and restarting all day...
I got better Everest Scores by lowering Multiplier and inscreasing my FSB.
450 x 10 with memory @ 1800 MHz 8-8-8-18
vs
500 x 9 with memory @ 1668 MHz 7-7-7-18
500 x 9 won out so I'll try to get you some pics tonight.
I haven't had time to take pics, had a family issue last night. I'll see if I have the time tonight.
I guess it comes down to whether a person desires to help people who are inexperienced and need guidance or they rather just keep it to themselves.
There are a lot of good people on this board who will help you out.
I believe in Karma. I've had people help me out in the past, so I pass on the favor to someone else. Granted, I am a newb to OCing, but I try.
At last.. I found the screenshots :p

And some Q6600 testing.. :D (propably D9GTR.. :S )
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/n.../orthos4gh.jpg
The second Orthos crashed at ~3.45.. but with 1.41V, I didn't expect more :D
racergr, did you try Super Pi Mod @ 32M?
Ok here are bios pics as promised.
yeah it would crash on me too lukee ... now i'm back to 430x10 fsb strap to 400mhz ... i'll post my bios up when i have the chance :)
as for other comments on oc with this board, i do not have much experience in oc'ing and that is why i'm here to learn some stuff, as for the settings, it's what i read from the forums from various sites ... nope i havent tried super pi (what is that actually and where can i DL it) but so far my system is pretty stable with my current settings, no blue screens, no auto restarts, works normally etc .... i'll try to load crysis later tonight and see what happens ....
racergr, get a new psu hehehehe ... mine is 850w but acts up weird but will keep on trying ;)
I posted this somewhere else, you may not have seen it as it's part of RAM benchmarking log.
I just ordered this board with some G. Skill DDR3 1600 cl7 sticks.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231167
Now I ordered these sticks as a reviewer said they worked flawlessly with this board, but then I've been reading the forums here and see people have had problems with this memory working. maybe a newer bios has been released for the reviewer to get them working "flawlessly".
Can anyone confirm these sticks work? or can anyone recommend known good sticks. I'd hate to return this board. I bought it because I own a P5Q Deluxe and love it, especially the express gate. I use it all the time except when gaming of course.
Thanks for any help.
-=Mark=-
where i can get the link of bios 1306?!
i have some problems with the last one 1406 :S
Regards
at the moment Asus making fun of us, buy Asus P5Q3 and yet we having trouble with the memory....bad marketing or I should say bad image.
Will sell away once I get hold of better mobo.
EP45T extreme looks good.
Mark, I've used these sticks with 1406 and it works well. This has been my experience. Maybe someone else may have problems with it, but I also bought it because someone was using it and recommended it. The only gripe I have is that I can't get it to 1900+ MHz, but I don't think it is a memory issue, I think the issue is still with the board. Hopefully they will fix that in a bios update.
Have you tried putting 4 sticks of hyperX kingston 14400/1800Mhz ram.
Can't even run at 1800Mhz even up to 9-9-9-30 settings and 2.2vdimm.
It can only do 1600Mhz at 9-9-9-25....no way it gonna past 1650Mhz at 2.2vdimm.
Show me your good skills  I would like to see it :welcome:
Don't just talk, talk is cheap. Everyone here facing the same issues, think !
Those are your needs. Perhaps investigate before you purchase and find the product that best suits its intended purpose?
4 sticks? No comment...
I also have 4 x 2 GB Kingston HyperX 1600 MHz RAM and I have not been able to get that to run on this MB or an EVGA 790i Ultra SLI MB.
Tonight, I'll play around with the ram that I have and put 8 GB of the Gskill with my E8600 and 8 GB of the HyperX with the Q9550. Both are using this MB.
I'll let you know what I come up with.
When using all 4 memory slots, I have to increase the NB voltage, right?
Well, I tried 4 sticks of Gskill and I have only been able to run it at 9-9-9-24.
Everest results are worse. Latency went from 49ns to 62 ns Read went from 10800 to 9117.
:(
No 9-9-9-24 @ 1333 MHz for the Gskill. The timings for that is 7-7-7-18 @1600 MHz. When you use 4 sticks, is it normal to have to loosen them to 9-9-9-24?
I tried 1600 and got BSD when trying to boot into windows. I may be able to tweak it a bit, but I was trying to get my system working since I wanted to play some Warhammer.
It was strange though, I put in the 4 sticks and my bios became corrupt. I had to flash to 1406 again.
:shakes: Oh folks, please. It is not possible, repeat: NOT POSSIBLE to run two pairs of DDR3 modules at their nominal speed and latencies just as if they were two. Because they pose a higher capacitive load to the northbridge's line drivers. This would only work of the maker of the modules would RATE them for a certain speed at four modules. But whatever they do, the ratings they sell them for is only for ONE pair. Period. Game over, basta. Physical limitations always apply, it's simply a law of physics. They simply sell them for the higher possible rating, which is way better marketing. 1600 or even 2000 sounds a lot better than 1333, right?! That's why you BOUGHT them after all.
My 4x1 GB Corsair DDR3-1600 sticks work well, but only at 1380. Rough estimation: Two pairs of modules would only work right at the next lower clock level. Ex. 1600s at 1333 or a bit more, 1333s roughly at 1066...etc.
Please get some knowledge about electronics. Without it you will never know what you're doing....just as a general plea to overclockers!
So what you are saying is that only use 4 sticks if you really need the extra memory because they will not run as efficient as 2 sticks.
I'll buy that.
Well, partly right and partly wrong. Striker2 Extreme can do with 4 sticks because Nvidia chipsets are known to be good in memory bandwidth.
So, partly right is that the latency you've to sacrifice no matter what you do with 4 sticks and increase in vdimm to run.
DDr2 can do much better with 4 sticks because lower latency, lower bandwdith. As you climb higher, more crucial is to maintain at such speed.
Advancement in technology will improve in due time.
Aeneon did that with 2x2Gb sticks at 1600Mhz 9-9-9-25 with just 1.5Vdimm. And is Germany technology.
ok, I just got the board together and working. I got to 1333 fine, but 1600 won't post and I have to clear the cmos with the jumper. It seems the powerdown and unplug method doesn't work to clear OC settings.
anyway, if you can post your settings for me I'd be forever grateful.
-=Mark=-
Still having problems with getting my ram to 1600MHz.
If I enable XMP to set my memory for me, my system locks immediately when saving and exiting the BIOS and I have to hit the power switch to get it to turn off. When re-entering the BIOS the settings seem to have saved, but my system won't boot into windows at all. usually locks as soon as the screen changes to the windows progress bar page that I never get a chance to see.
I lowered my multiplier to x8 and slowly crept up from 333 to 390 and had my vcore to 1.475 and couldn't get it stable. This B3 core runs way too hot to try for higher, I was peaking at 85C but prime was averaging about 81C. My old system ran 1.42v for 8x400 and would peak at around 78c prime95 blend stable 12hrs.
Right now I'm at 3.2GHz 9x333 at 1.4v and 78C peak prime95 8hrs stable(everything is on auto/default). I used to be able to get this at 1.325v before and peak around 70C.
I'm not sure what else to try. I really don't want to return this, but I can't figure out what the issues are.
-=Mark=-
There is nothing wrong with the board.
mine works normal so far ... will post my bios settings, as 1 guy said auto settings are you friend and i find it works for me .. currently not home but will snap some pics and hope that i can help out ;)
I want this to be true, but I just put in my 9450 and I get the exact same problem. I have a short return period, so I might return this board. Is the regualr P5Q3 the same as this board without the wi-fi and 8-phase power thing?
I got this board as an open box. I've had good luck with motherboard open boxes as usually it is just memory compatibility issues rather than a problem with the board, but I've seen several people now claiming this memory works with this board without any issues.
I tried this memory with 1 stick at a time and no changes. I fired up Memset and ran through the settings one by one and still couldn't get an improvement. I tried this memory in another board and it worked fine with manually setting the timings (790 board).
I'm open to other suggestions.

Here's my results after working with this board for about a week. The 1M screeny is corrupt but I just got it and was pretty excited to break the 600 barrier by a good bit  I'll upload a non corrupted one here soon (hopefully).
Now if I can just get this thing to clock my RAM, I'll be in great shape
Vcore- 1.45v
Vpll- 1.54v
Vfsb- 1.4v
Vnb- 1.4v
NB GTL Ref- 0.545
NB Clock Skew- 200ps delay

PL15?
I can`t past 570 sp1m stable... and 500 3d stable :s By The Way on air.
Just air. I'm using Big Typhoon on CPU, 92mm fan over NB, and 120mm fan over RAM.
Thread crapping
I haven't messed with PL yet. When I get to start benching I will. This was just a quick run without pressing too much on the volts and breaking my personal FSB record. When I post my bench results later on this month, you can come crap there too.
Hello, I'm new here!
Even after reading this lot, I went for this board. I'm not doing anything extreme with the board. I just wanted to get it up and running and then start having a play.
I have the Q6600 running at it's stock for the moment, and I'm using 2GB OCZ DDR3 1600mhz enhanced bandwidth. According to to CPU-Z at least, my FSB is 1600Mhz and timings are 7-6-6-20. It's stable enough to do stuff, but I havent actually stressed anything yet (not had it a week yet)
Anyway I have a problem. I flashed the BIOS to 1406. Sometimes when I change DRAM timings for example, when I hit F10 (save) the system abruptly turns off, then its sometimes takes a few attempts to get it back on.
Before I cleared the CMOS it would do this, but then say the BIOS may be damaged and prompt me to restore it.
I chatted to Asus on some live chat, the guy said BIOS problem and I should RMA it. I've not had it a week yet, RMA it already??
Is this normal for this board to do this - can I fix it?? it try something??
Any suggestions please
Thanks!
I want use my E8400(c0) with 4.0GHz ( 8 * 500 ), but wich tension is recommended for use in VFSB, VPLL, VNB, VSB ? My bios is 1406
Yep, I have 4 1GB sticks of the GSkill HZ's, I can boot manually at 1780mhz @ 9-9-9-24 but after 2 minutes priming I get errors, the only way I can get long term stability is to set everything on "auto" except timings, I am then defaulted to 890mhz which I can run at 5-5-5-18 :shakes:
Does anyone with the HZ's know what the max 24/7 safe voltage to put through these is, with some active cooling over them? I have not gone beyond 2.0v so far and am thinking, the 1780mhz might be stable with more volts.
Try this.
VFSB 1.4
VPLL 1.56
VNB 1.4
VSB 1.4
I have the same bios version and am running my E8600 @ 500 x 9.
You have room to tweak these a bit more, I haven't taken the time to do it since it runs stable with that and my temps aren't bad. Maybe one day I will tweak it a bit.
I was merely going for the physical facts. Nothing can change that...I've had an education in that field. However, what is possible is that NVidia chipsets are using two independent memory controllers without saying so. One dedicated of each memory socket pair, on top of dual channel. The physical limits do not apply then anymore because you don't have two modules sharing part of the same data/adress lines. Just a wild theory about the meory controller.... <g>
That could explain why the top NVidia chipsets have always been more expensive than Intel's.
I've always pondered to try a NVidia based board, but by now I am rather anticipating the new Core i7 platform than investing in more S775 stuff.
On a side note, I am extremely positively surprised that I could plain swap my Q9300 C1 for a Q9550 E0 without any BIOS changes needed for stabilization. I am now happily running at 8.5x460 MHz FSB. (3.91 GHz)
What does it tell us? It is mostly the board in my case that determines the BIOS settings for running Quads, not the processor.
I have a feeling that's what may be holding you back. There's an excellent article on anandtech on trd, that should get you started. Then you should look at what Eva2000 mentions about timings in his Asus Blitz Series writeups. He explains what those Ai-Tweaker settings mean.
OK, I picked up some OCZ Reaper DDR3-1800 (OCZ3RPR18004GK) and they hit 1800 so far on all auto except manually set 8-8-8-24@1.9v. I've only done a few short stress tests, but so far, so good.
Hopefully, when I find more time, I'll try for 1900+. I think my quad can do it if my sticks hold out.
-=Mark=-
lukee i tried your settings but it didnt work for my board and seems like 435 ghz is max for me ... any1 got any suggestions ?
I can't seem to get these Reapers to hit DDR3-1800. It seems to hit a wall at 400fsb no matter what I do. I even set everything to manual and no improvements. Here are some pics of my settings. sorry for the bad pictures.

I had these setting going pretty good at 400fsb, I just raised this to 425 in the pic and it errors out immediately in Mem Test. I was able to raise NB to 1.26 and it would fail Mem Test after 5-10minutes, but when I restarted to go back into the BIOS and make some changes the system would do a cold boot double post thing and wipe out all of my BIOS settings.
any advice would be greatly appreciated.
-=Mark=-
I usually disabled the 4 settings above Mem OC Charger, and maybe try BIOS 1306, was the most stable IMO.
Yeah, they were disabled originally. It seemed to run better enabled, but it may of been my imagination.
Anyway, I think I've got it figured out. After noticing it was crashing after a little while of stressing no matter the settings I pulled out my DMM with a temp probe and stuck it in the NB and sure enough it was 65C just mem testing. I pulled out my old 40mm fan and it cooled it down to 50C and has been lasting much longer now with no errors.
I had this same problem on my old DFI Dark 965-s board. I have noticed it being a problem more on older boards before the upright heatpipe HSF units came out as they were designed to have the hsf blowing across the MB and helping cool the NB and others. Once I bought a hsf assembly for the NB I never had issues with the 965-s board again.
Now I guess I'll have to buy a NB HSF assembly and some MOSFET hsf assemblies as well. Any Suggestions?

ps. why in the world did Intel screw up the monitoring on these boards? They left so many out it's so hard to diagnose problems, as it is, it's hard enough diagnosing with the million-and-one settings in the BIOS these days. and to think of all the people having so called memory compatibility issues, when it is probably just an overheating NB.
Monitoring? As far as I know, the only boards Asus offers NB temp sensors on are the very highest end, like the Maximus II Formula and whatnot. It's not really intel's fault. And I'm pretty sure the NB on my board overheats at >1.48v, because I have major issues above that, even with a 40mm fan on it.
-Zigosity
oh wonderful. I thought it was just the new P45 and its features. and to think the deluxe board doesn't get basic things like proper monitoring. In the many years of buying MB this is the first board I've ever seen that removes features instead of adding them. Even my other mATX board have full monitoring on them. I wish I'd researched this better, but who knew? oh great, it is one day past my return date.
well, on a plus note. I have my multiplier to x7 and memory still passes with a slight bump in vCore. Now I'm on x8 and it starts fine. I'm sure it'll be ok though.
Thanks for the help

Those voltages look too raise Cpu voltage >1.3~1.4 PLL>1.5~1.56 NB 1.4~ DRAM 1.96 FSB Termination ~1.36 And perhaps try remove the "Pull-In" settings from Ai Transaction Booster, or even try leave that on Auto... Then take each one down a notch after successful completion of SPI 32 XS 1.5.
ok, I restarted last night after finding my NB needed a fan and I got 450fsb with an hour prime95 blend and 3 passes of mem test in vista ult x64. Everything's aa little high and I want to lower volts/temps as much as possible.
Here are my settings:
I still need more testing, but I'd like to get the vcore lower and temps down. Max temp is like 73C with HWMonitor 1.12, NB is around 52C load using DDM and I'm sure it's at least a few degrees higher than that reading.Code:CPU Ratio Setting: 08.0

You're not paying attention. Of course lowering voltages is the icing on the cake but you have to start from somewhere. I tried giving you some pointers but I guess you've got your own m.o.

Enhance the compatibility with certain memory.
will give it a shot on the new bios hope it will have lesser problems for every1. has any1 tried the new bios ?
I tried the new BIOS , nothing special , the same old problems as earlier , I had to enter most values manually to reach stable , better luck next time ASUS
New BIOS sucked for me, don't even bother...
ASUS P5Q3 Deluxe 1611 Beta Bios
[ 1611 ]
----------------------
Thx SXS112, hope the DDR3 users can get as good results as we get with the DDR2 variant now
It looks like 1611 is not BETA , It includes a couple of fixes as ASUS say :
[ 1611 ]
----------------------
1. Fix chassis fan mode can't be saved after resume from S3.
2. Fix display priority is not correct when plugs two PCIE VGA cards.
Will give it a try and see , regards ...
I appreciate the continuing BIOS support, but no 1T means my P5Q3 has it's days numbered...
Bios 1611 has been removed from ASUS servers , does anybody know why ? are they planning to release an updated version ?
probably n hopefully asus makes a good bios ... i'm still stuck at where i'm at, cant go any further with multiple attempts on different settings. still on same bios 1406. hope someday someone out there could help me to reach my target of 5ghz n 2000mhz on my ddr3's. thx in advance ;)
Bios 1702 has been released
[ 1702 ]
----------------------
Enhance the compatibility with certain memory.
you can download it right from ASUS servers here
will try it and report soon
Edit : Tested and the system FEELS more stable with 1702 than it used to be with 1611, No big difference in terms of the max settings I could get with 1611, however the system feels a bit faster and I could get some more points with EVEREST, not much but better than nothing.
Conclusion : update to 1701 in order to get the most out of your P5Q3 deluxe . good luck .
Hi im new here and i looked on some of you post regard the OC and i am surprised. I have a problem with my OC and i need some help.
My hardware are:
Asus p5q3 wifi deluxe
E8500 C2D intel 3-16 ghz
Corsair ddr 1600 mhz 2 x 1 gb kit (placed in orange slots)
radeon 4870 1 GB ram
samsung F1 tb 1 HDD
Coolermaster 700 w
Thermaltake v 1 cooler cpu
case Antech
OS win xp pro
I have tryed some OC specs but all leaving me to freeze or hang right on the windows desktop load or right before the welcome screen, leaving me with a black screen. The strange thing is when i try to reboot few times and fix around in bios then i can run smooth with some OC specs until next day were i cold start the Computer, Then it freeze or hangs again in the same state until i reboot or try other specs..its a nightmare for me :( Thats why i hope i could get some new bios Specs from you people in here. Just ask me anything regard hardware or bios and i will post it. Atm my bios is set to default leaving me with 3.16 and 1333 mhz ddr3 ram :/ My real temp is 35 degrees idle on cold start and gets 58- 60 on stress test
I have heard it could be a volt related problem but im not 100 % sure how much to add or not.
I know i cant get my cpu to run above 4.0 due to heat but anything around it would be fine and with 1600 mhz mhz ram
Think only the X38 and X48 can push that mate.. P45 is a midrange chipset, I have that option in the Gigabyte EP45T UD3P bios but it has no effect at all...
Can anyone check 8 x 500FSB 1600Mhz C9-9-9-24 with a wolfie.. I want to have some comparisons with the Gigabyte mobo...
Here's my 24/7 setting :

Just an everest bandwith test and a hyperpi 32Mb (2 instances ) run at the same latencies so 1600 C9-9-9-24
