I need help getting my my Q9650 to 4.2GHz. Every time i try it locks up 10sec into post and if it gets past boot it doesn't load windows. Running 4.00GHz is fine but i want to try for higher clocks.

She is pretty stable as is, but once in a while (like once every two weeks or so I will get a BSOD, using Vista 64 not standard version though)
The DRAM CLK Skew on Channel A/B changes the DRAM Clock Fine Delays. Changing the the DRAM CLK Skew can help you to get your memory stable. Normally you can leave them on auto. The BIOS seems to handle the DRAM Fine Clock Delays very good.Quote:

All these settings didn't let me overclock my OCZ Reaper HPC PC2-8500 100% stable above 1117MHz without dramatically changing the DRAM Timings. My conclusion is that it's best to leave it all on auto.
The only way to find out if your memory can run stable with lower voltage is to run MemTest86+ V2.11. When you can't pass MemTest86+ V2.11 with lower voltage there isn't much you can do about it. Some chips like high voltage others don't.

Thx mate. In Everest it shows that my FSB VTT is v1.10, should i raise it higher to about v1.35 in bios? Btw. what do CPU TM Function and Execute Disable Bit do? I see a lot of people having them turned off and some having it on.

I'm not going to run the rams any higher then 1134MHz. All i want is a good pair of RAM that can clock and be stable with my Q9650 at 4.2GHz. I also have a pair of Dominators PC-8500C5DF and they also can't clock at all. They don't like going higher then 1066MHz. I really have bad luck with rams. I also need to RMA my board because one of my LAN ports got fried in a thunder storm. I'm going to try to find a pair of them G.Skills. :mad:

I've lowered my ram voltages to v2.16 and they seem to be linepack stable.
Why use DDR 1134MHz and tRD 7 if you could use DDR 1258MHz and tRD 6 with the G.SKILL F2-9600CL5D-4GBPI kit?Quote:

Save your money, its not worth it. You're better off using that money to get a nice SSD or a nice i7 upgrade in another year or so. There won't be any noticeable differences from your current overclock even if you get new ram or a couple of hundred mhz more.Quote:

This is a copy of a post from the ASUS Rampage Formula forum.
Nobody seems to be running stable on his board with memory speeds at +1200MHz.
I already contacted the ASUS Global Tech Support for that problem but I never got an answer back. It's easier to deny the problem than to fix it.
This board is powered with a X48 Chipset that is made for +1600MHz memory speeds and shouldn't have problems with +1200MHz.
When you've got memory that should be running at 1200MHz or more and you can't seem to run stable on your board with that memory speed, contact the ASUS Tech Support with a Technical Inquiry and ask them to fix the problem in a new BIOS release.
You've got two problems. You've got to push your memory to run at 1200MHz and the board doesn't seem to handle the higher DDR speeds very well.:shrug:Quote:

@A-Grey: Seems Moderate Clock Twister is faster for me than Stronger(Copy speeds 10300 in Moderate and 9100 in Stronger).Shudnt it be the other way round; ie, Stronger shud give better results, na?
Running with Ai Clock Twister Stronger is difficult to have it stable at high FSB a lot of memory and fast CPU's. You should have better bandwidth with Ai Clock Twister Stronger if you can run it stable like that.Quote:

The same thing can happen with memory too. Tight timings give you better bandwidth but when they are to tight you will lose bandwidth.
But I have to say that losing 1200MB/s is a lot.
You might want to try Ai Clock Twister at stock speeds to see if the same thing happens.

I just did a test to try it out.
For my 8 X 450MHz, DDR 1199 and tRD 6 setup I gain 127MB/s Read, 0MB/s Write and 24MB/s Copy. I have to raise the NB Voltage from 1.33V to 1.49V to run the EVEREST Cache & Memory Benchmark with Ai Clock Twister Stronger. The timings with Ai Clock Twister Stronger are definitely to tight for that setup and is probably going to give stability problems.

9 out of 10 that you've got a memory problem. All ASUS boards seem to have memory problems. Take a look at the Maximus II Formula thread or any other ASUS board thread and you'll see that they suffer with memory problems.
It's time that ASUS wakes up and fix the problem in their BIOSes.
You experience the same thing like I do. A DRAM CLK Skew delay of 100ps seems to be right but it doesn't work. Try with only 50ps and disable the Phase-pull Ins. You can try to enable them back later if you have found stability with the Phase-pull Ins Disabled.
You know what. Maybe it was a mistake to buy this board and I should've gone for a DFI board.;)
It's time that ASUS runs more stability tests on their boards instead of benchmarks. Benchmarks are fun but won't tell you where the stability problems are situated. I may be a pain in the ass for ASUS but if they actually run some stability tests they may actually find the weaknesses on their boards and BIOSes and I don't have to be a pain in the ass anymore.:down:
I provide them all the information they need to easily find a solution for the problems. I give them my BIOS settings, hardware setup and tell them what programs I'm using to test stability. I tell them exactly what happens and where the problem is situated. How hard can it be for their so called "engineers" to find a solution for these problems.:shakes:
What do they do with all that information. They simply ignore you because they feel that itch on their ass again and it's starting to hurt. All that information goes straight to the recycle bin. I know that because of the fact that after some time when they can't deny the problems anymore they seem to have lost that information and ask you to send it back to them.:confused:
I have a family to support and simply don't have the extra money right now to buy me a new board and if I have that extra money I'd rather spend it on something else than to buy a new board.:(
This is why I think that I made a mistake to buy this ASS-Sucks board and should've bought a nice DFI board. The DFI Tech Support would have been glad that someone can provide them so much information to improve their products and release new BIOSes that fixes some issues.:welcome:
You can only sell your products when your customers are happy with their purchase and DFI knows that well. For this you need good support and that is what they are giving. They know that guys, who can help their customers to solve their problems that they are having, are necessary and would never ignore you or think of you that you are a pain in the ass like ASUS.:yepp:
ASUS is going to realize this when it's to late and all their customers on the Enthusiast market don't buy their products anymore because there is no support or feedback for their Enthusiast products anymore for those who need it.:shrug:

You can't always have what you want with ram frequency, fsb frequency, voltage, etc you'll have to find a compromise that works with your board and components. Start with loose performance level and lowest CPU multiplier, ie 6x, and then get your FSB/RAM frequency where you want it, voltages where you want, then setup Performance Level tighter, raise Vnb as you need it, then finally raise CPU mutliplier 0.5 or 1x at a time, and raise Vcore with it, test and find the stable voltage for each multi.
Follow that method and you'll find it's a lot easier.
My RAM passed MemTest86+ at 1081MHz for 40min.

System hardlock is fairly common with these until your mem subsystem is stable. It might not pick up all 4gb, but the 3.3gb low mem is more than enough to get valid results.

Purpose was to test how good are my A-Data's, looks stable - but sometimes in idle I'm getting BSOD's.
Could you guys give me any advice what should I tweak to raise stability?
My current settings:
vMCH = 1.45
vDDR = 2.4
AI Clock Twister = Moderate
Strap = 266
BTW: can low strap be a problem here?

Didn't have time to test it more, only did linx once - so it doesn't have to be LLC fault. Anyway I'm still testing and from what I see disabling DRAM Static Read Delay and setting both skews to normal [not auto] is giving me now full stability in MemScope.Quote:

Right now with the BIOS that we have it is probably not possible to have them running stable at 1200MHz. You can try to adjust some settings or timings to get them to run at 1200MHz but I don't think that the problem is situated there. Some guy at the ASUS Rampage Formula forum has the same problem with his 4 X 1 Giga OCZ Reaper HPC PC2-9600 Memory. He can't get them to run at 1200MHz. He tried everything, adjusting voltage, adjusting memory timings and adjusting skews. Nothing helped to get his memory running at 1200MHz and he gave up trying and hopes that a new BIOS release can fix his problem.
All we can do now is wait and hope that ASUS won't let us down and fixes the problem.

LLC locks Vin = Vout for Vcc/Vtt at voltage regulator. So you don't get droop, it compensates for drop across the reg and traces, and boosts voltage between in and out. Thats all it does really.Quote:

And I left my PC for overnight with Linx ran, got up few hours later to check how's Linx is doing and it got stuck at 47 loop out of 100 with some error, so I went back sleep without turning it off but when I got up few minutes later I saw BSOD on my LCD. :(
47 passes looks pretty good for me but I don't really know what I can adjust, should I mess with DREF? Or maybe with Skews?
I dunno why my PC god BSOD overnight in idle, yea you can say it was because LLC enabled, but till I started clocing my ram at 600 I was clocking it at 540 with LLC enabled and never got any random BSODs. :(

When your Memory needs 2.3V to run stable there is nothing you can do about it. The board can run fine with low Memory voltage but you need Memory that can run stable at lower voltage.Quote:

IMO the problem is with my RAM, I'm not sure can it be clocked so high.
Anyway I'm kinda curious why my mobo can run ram at 540 on stock vMCH but to get 600 I need to raise it by 0.2v. :confused:
I use CPU Clock Skew Delay 200ps and NB Clock Skew Delay 100ps. This lets me run stable with 1.33V for North Bridge Voltage in the BIOS. Without these delays it isn't possible for me to get it stable with that low voltage. Maybe with my Quad it would be impossible to have that stable without the delays.Quote:
