Single PCB GTX 295 Vcore mod

Hi all!

Got two of these single PCB cards last weekend. Figured out the Vmod and I like to share it to you.

It is simple mod, but it does not feel like it, cause we all have used to play with software nowadays.

The size of removed resistors:

So, If you like to adjust voltage, you have to change 0 to 1 or other way around. Easiest way is to remove all resistors and solder in a dip switch. After that mod you can select all possible voltages with the switch.

Yuo can also do like in the mod picture. Use a fixed voltage you prefer.

Remember, that real voltage will be 0.03V lower than the vid you select. When you boot, you will see some higher voltages on multimeter, but do not be afraid in that point. They will go down as soon as the system will boot.

Some usable VID combinations (first one is default):

0,0,0,1,1,0,1,0 = 1.0625V
0,1,0,0,1,0,1,0= 1.1V
0,0,0,0,1,0,1,0= 1.125V (in the pics)
0,1,0,1,0,0,1,0= 1.15V
0,1,0,0,0,0,1,0= 1.2V
0,1,0,1,1,1,0,0= 1.25V

and so on...

Petri, if you want "normal" vmod with VR just solder one between pin #4 and GND. You should know that though since you figured out OCP already ;)

Yes. Just remove the resistor with green frames, which is shown in pictures and you will get 1.095V in load. That should be enough to basic users with aircooled systems.

If you like to have more voltage, you have to modify whole VID combinations like explained in the end of first post.

Those orange lines are there, just to make it more unclear :) No, those lines are there to make it more reliable and you can see where you have to move resistors or where to take them out.

This mod is exactly same as it was in 7900GT.

I think this fixed voltage is easy in 24/7 use. For extreme OC you need to have better tools.

Clap clap. Your my hero! I will have to see what mine clocks to under water and if it isn't satisfactory I will look into this mod.

It have not tested it, but should work with 99% certainty ;)

I've already tried with pin4 to ground with a VR.

Yeah..the easiest way is not always the one, which will work. FB pin will not work. It might chage some offset, but not actual vcore.

VID method is easy to use with dip switch. I will do it and use the card under LN2 soon. These seems to be a bit better than the hamburger models.

LN2 pots will fit perfectly on these. SLI is usable with extra long SLI cable, so nothing is impossible :)

Hmm, ok. I will check that out, hard when I don't have the card though :)

edit: Does it work as long as you don't reboot? Does the voltage go up again after you enter OS or 3D? There might be a fix but I'd need to do some experiments.

With VR voltage will rise just for 1 to 2 seconds and then jump back to stock, in 3D also stock voltage.

Some overclocked results from last week. Room is still so hot.. can't push more on air:

Just card testing.. rest of the setup is on very low freq's.

So, remove that "green" resistor and you will hit these speeds very easily :up:

With my 7900GT's I used the same trace pin that we use to mod athlon xp's into MP's. So trace pin will work in this cas too? Not sure since pictures are no longer showing.

Hehe. I ment the method of modding is the same in this VGA.

Pictures should be just fine. Wait a bit, if they are not loading for some reason.

1.can i increase my core without touching my shaders at all, to test core limit? <---most important to me!!!

2.doing this volt mod increases core,shader and memclocks at the same time or what?

3.after the mod u can use evga percesion but like on nitrous oxide,higher limits across the board ehh?

4.after the mod is it possible to use evga voltage tuner after u unlocked the volt limit higher?

701/1215/1511 i think my core can go wayyyy higher 730+ but my shaders wig out first(more volts might help them?).my temps are amazing on air...

rules of thumb for overclocking my gt 200 series---

It seems (based on opinions) that only proper way of OC'ing GPU (all clocks) is to start with:
a) pushing shaders up first
b) then push GPU core clocks (maximum up to 1/2 of shaders value)
c) as a last step push memory (VRAM) until it hardlocks your system on stress testing or in games, meaning you need to drop down to last stable value"

1. You can do it if you set your core clock linked with shaders, then uncheck the 'Link clocks' and set your shaders lower.

2. With this vmod you can increase core and shader clocks, mem clocks will decrease when setting your maximum core/shaders.

3. and 4. don't know

Finally did the mods and tested.
0,0,0,1,1,0,1,0 = ~1.084 V 720 MHz core, shaders linked
0,0,0,0,1,0,1,0 = ~1.102 V 740 MHz core, shaders linked
0,0,0,0,0,0,1,0 = ~1.308 V 792 MHz core, shaders unlinked@1756 MHz

Mems running @1248 MHz. If dropping memory to 1188 MHz I can push core one step higher but only if the core tems are pretty low.

I would be far to afraid of tampering with my graphics cards in fear of permanently damaging them!

SF3D - you rock. Just finished the mod on both cards (removed the green resistor) and i was able to hit 750MHz Core and 1250MHz Mem. Thanks for sharing this great info with us.:up:

the am3 will be better on my 975 this was just a test on the e8600
and the voltage
well at 1st i tryed 0100010 = 1.2 but it give 1.1v
so now ive done 0000010 = ?? but gives 1.21v loaded

lol guys how the f*ck are you able to even see the tiny resistors, im looking at my asus 295gtx card now and im just shaking my head no fooking way i will be able to solder off those tiny things with my shaky hands :rofl:.. lol maybe i should cut off the excessive coffee drinking habit. :D

heres a dipper i did on my 8800gt vid mod gets 1.1v throught to 1.6v in 0.50v steps on the fly :)

hey thanks evo lol now i get what an dipper is haha and i actually have one laying around somewhere (i think) never just knew what the hell was called, i feel soooooo noobish right now :D

did some testing today and wasn't able to pass 750MHz. Each time i increase the gpu over 750 the driver crash in vantage so i think that i need to increase the voltage a little bit more since both of the cards are watercooled and the temps did not pass 45 degress in all tests. At one point i lowered the shader to 1600 to see if i'm able to run the gpu at higher freq but no luck. I think that the 01010000 = 1.11250v is not enough so i should move to 01000000 for 1.21250v I forgot my DM at work so don't ask about the measured voltage yet, i will do that tomorrow.:shakes:

im still working on this one :)

its ether a pencil mod away
or remove the ocp reister and fit a 200k or if the resiter is left in place it will need a 4m Vr :eek: to bring it back down to 200k

right so after pushing this card more @ 1600 shader 800 core is the max it will go with just vid mod any thing over 1600 shader hits ocp resauting in a hard off/on to get it back

so railmeat what you posted above is relivent unfortnally id did understand it till just :(

SF3D....Hey man how much would you charge me to just take off the green res on both my Evga 295 Coops with waterblks...Iam fixing to redo my water and this would be a good time to do this...I just dont have a steady hand anymore so gladly will pay someone like to you to to do it for me...

i think its easier to just put a blob of solder on both ends of the bridge then touch the 2 ends with the soldering tip at the same time once its louse it will stick to the iron and come away

Hi! Usually some TV / electronic repair shop will do the job in 5 minutes and they should not charge you much. You can also ask some of your friend etc.

More easy way is to buy good soldering station and start to practice. In no time, you will mod these while sleeping :D

thanks sf3d the ocp mod may work and i may now be limmted by cooling but its strange how vantage will pass at 800/1600/1300 (core/shader/mem)

i was also wandering if pin 16 would change it any but it seams pin 16 is tied to IFB, IDELAY, ISS, and IILIMIT.

I have managed to get my 295 upto 720, 1552, 1300 stable and can go as far as 740, 1600, 1300. I can set the core to 800 with link shaders and it has no problems in ATI Tool but with furmark or vantage I get driver stop responding error. I think this is as far as I can go without volt mods. Temps are not a issue for my system so running at 800 or higher should be ok for me. This will be the first time I am doing a volt mod so I really want a nice clean easy guide to follow if you guys have time.

Wow! You already have some nice clocks for a single pcb card. You sure you have a single pcb card?

Yes mate its single pcb, the thing is before i added the water block the card wouldt go past 690 core but now with the block has changed the card completely.

hey sf3d i have done 2 cards the same for someone else to test
i wont be testing as dont have acess to ln2 or the pots :( best i could prolly do would be 2 single stages
at some point i will mod my card and get it cold and see what it can do :)

the voltage images are just to show the vid dipper is working the card will need dice or ln2 at 1.4v i would of thought

and there will be no ovp only ocp but the cards are modded for ocp just incase

:) and i wont be testing these cards somone else is i will just be testing one card that i have Msi n295gtx :)

oh :D tell the guy who will be testing this under cold that he shouldn't show before he won't do the 950+ on core with this mods :D

But i did try to adapter 2 x GTX285 LN2 blocks and its not fitting (shock with PCI ex connector).
One of the 2 GPUs isn t working well

the images in that post show the ocp mod i have done i removed the 200k resitor form the card and fitted 2x 100k vr's in SERIES to make it 200k

but in my testing by lowering the impedence there was no affect

atm my cascade is broken and i need to fix that before i can test again my card just may want more voltage to go more but its hitting ocp with 1.3v and 800/1610/1300mem it will pass vantage at 800/1600/1300 on air at 1.3 no ocp mod

i just need more time to get it worked out :)

Just looked at the back of my 295 Co-op :eek: These friggin things are TINY :shocked:

No way my tremblin old hands could work with that without incurring serious damage to both my hands and the cards :rofl:

I have my cards on water right now, but they seriously need more volts. I was SEVERELY disappointed that evga's voltage tuner won't work on their own cards :mad: Any way to do it software wise using Riva Tuner ???

Short of that, what would it cost me to have the dip switches installed on both cards ??? They'll be going LN2 one of these days, but not for a few months so the switches would be nice :)

Any way to wire in a poteniometer so you can dial in a desired voltage ???

I did the mod to 1.2 V with cooler original (100%), tested and checked the voltage that was correct.
I put the 750 (linked) / 1150 and was running FurMark ha about 3 minutes and the board died.
I tried restore to stock voltage, but when I turn on the PC, the board threatened to turn the cooler but does not care.
The card died after trying to test the stability with FurMark in just a few minutes.
Any idea?
I know XFX will not give me RMA of the moded card.
I think i spend a lot of money :(

Sorry to dig this few weeks thread up, but could you just 'short' the green resistors with silver glue?
That way the resistors would actually be bypassed right?

I have some silver glue that can be easily removed with acetone if I need to :)

Or do you need to remove the resistors completely?

lol removing it is not the problem... placing it back would be problematic, it's really small ;)
but if you remove it then you have a trace that normally ran from the first side of the resistor to its other side... so in reality you'll break a trace, it will lead nowhere... know what I mean?


I just don't feel comfortable possibly killing 2 cards (yes I have Quad sli)

you can always just bridge the to pads where the smr was with solder that will work the same as the smr

gpu-z wont show voltage for the single pcb card the controllers are not supported

where as the duel pcb has voltera controllers that will show voltage in gpu-z

i found before this volt mod, i could get around 690 core/ 1100mem clocks...now at 1.163v i can get around 715core and 1150mem....can i cut of a further resistor under air cooling?? without causing damage getting around 72 under load in 3dmark vantage atm....or should i wait till i get another waterblock for my second card

Who me :)
for me it was the need for faster gpu clocks
and many years of tinkering with soldering only recentlly i have adoppted it to pc's :)
volt mods are easy
threads like this one are very encouging
most mods can be found on the web just google xxx volt mod (x = card)

just tested this style
points read 4.1ohms stock
after fitting 100ohm vr gives 3.9ohms
once running any ajusment of the vr shuts the core/s down

any ideas peter?

What is the highest I can safely run my memory on stock cooling? I have had a couple 295 boards fry or burn out on my when I pushed the memory to 1250. I assume it is because that giant heat sink up top is the heat sink for the ram and the NIVO/SLI/PCIE bus chips, as well as the mosfets and regulators?

Gerret, Can you please help me with this Mod. I is it simply soldering wires from one end of the line to the other. What are the pink and green short lines supposed to indicate. Also what is the 10 ohm VR supposed to indicate. Some detail instructions for newbies would be fine. I can use a solder but I'm very weak in electricity. Thanks
