you gonna be happy man next week:D
now if i can get this 5970 sorted out i can run trifire in the future

I got this board three weeks ago and haven't really had the time to fool around with it due to my work. Now that I have some time to play around with this ... what would be a good starting point for my i7 965EE and 6GB Corsair DDR3 1600MHz memory? I have started out with stock settings except for a BCLK setting of 200 and a CPU multi of 21. Is there some tweaks I should be aware of? I haven't OC'ed an ASUS board in years and I want to get to know this board personally. A lot of settings that I am not familiar with. I could use a pointer or three!
I have a Noctua NH-D14 right now, though I will go with WC in a few weeks, depending on my time. The rest of what's on the system are two ATI HD4870 x2s in X-Fire, two WD Raptors150GB in RAID 0, and a DVD/CD unit. Not much else. A little help would be nice. Thanks in advance.

BTW: I have flashed to latest BIOS 0602. No problems in booting or whatever. This board seems to be an easy overclocker from my starting point ...
i am interested in this board, can i run this configuration with both of my gtx 480's running at 16x, if not what configuration do i have to run for my gtx 480's to be in full 16x mode, this is my issue with my current classified e760 board, here is a picture below of how i want to use the slots, any help is appreciated.

hye handyman...
your rig is much similar with what i have..:D..
at first, i've started to set the bclk to 150 and multiplier 'auto', which makes roughly 3.6GHz, it leaving the HT 'dis', C-state 'dis', speed-step 'dis' and turbo mode 'dis'..i didn't much set the memory timing at first and leave it all to auto..
i play with my CPU/VTT(QPI/DRAM)= +0.2 and IOH Voltage = +0.2..to test the stability, i run my prime95 for about 5 mins and sees how it goes, do monitor my temp since my cooler is on 'air'...5 mins prime95 was successful for me and i decided to higher by increasing my bclk by+10..each increment must come together with an increase in the CPU/VTT and IOH V..
the highest i can go for my i7 965 was 4.Ghz..because i'm quite scared it will burn my proc since my CPUV reaches 1.440 v-1.455v..:(..
p/s: to others, can i just continue to go higher even though my CPUv reaches 1.440v, or i have to set the CPUv manually by lower it..
nice seein ya here handyman
remember ya from dfi thread
asus way easier to overclock lol
Thanks Zsamz I remember you as well. I always appreciated your advice
I had my QX9770 hooked up to an ASUS Rampage Formula X48 motherboard for some time and overclocked it back then. I had the i7 965 hooked up to a DFI UTX58-T3eH8 for well over a year. I liked the look of this board and decided that DFI no longer had what it once had. So I got this board and so far, I like everything I am seeing. I just need a little help in getting back into the overclocking mood. So if there is any advice you can give me in getting this bad boy up and running, I'd appreciate your expert opinion ...
dfi went downhill as soon as they dropped the support with x48
i woulda bought a dfi x58 if i thought they gonna have proper support but i guess the cutbacks bit them in the ass
they coulda dominated the market
you might wanna boost the pci-e volts to 1.56v real and plug in the 4 pin 12v too since you got a 4870x2
i got a 4870x2 with a wb but i'm playin with 5970:D
I have both 4-pin molex'es plugged in. Haven't upped any voltages just yet. My first big question is this: Should I use both eight-pin EATX power plugs? Right now I have them split ... one power cord with one 4-pin going to the first EATX12v-1 plug-in and the second 4-pin plug going to the second EATX12V_2 plug-in. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have a second power cord going to the EATX12V_2 plug, huh?
Any other thoughts before I start having some fun?

The weird thing is that my retail 980x lets me voltage the hell out of it but wont even boot up or let me go past 1.40v qpi / dram. But it will run vantage at 5.60ghz and 06 at 5.70ghz..
The ES chip has not limit and it will boot up at any voltage.. does'nt mean it's going to work though.. I tried my 4-way classy as well.. I think this chip is f'd up.. It cant even handle 4-way gtx 480 quad sli anymore
at a moderate 4.40ghz. I just get a black screen and a hummmmmmm from the pc. I decided to just order a bunch of retail 980x's until I find a good one.. Ordered from Tiger direct, Newegg and went to the local fry's to pick up
a few.. Hope I find a golden one guys! Cheers for all the help! :) I did find my special gtx 480 though.. It will do 950mhz with a low voltage of 1.10v - 1.12v Tested 5 gtx 480's total and none of them would run vantage
at 950mhz at 1.10 - 1.12v no matter what I did.. This peticular gpu however ran it without a single hitch or blink! :)
Okay .. I have both EATX12V plug-ins plugged in. And both 4-pin Molex power plug-ins plugged in. And the PCI-E voltage is now upped to 1.56v. I was able to set the CPU ration to 21 and the BCLK is at 208.5 for 4.3GHz. Everything else is on AUTO.
What I need is for someone to post their full BIOS settings via the template so I can reference all the finer details about this BIOS that I am still a bit unfamiliar with. Preferably with an i7 965. Anyone?
Thanks in advance.
AK
i suggest you try for 4.4 @1.4v qpi 1.3v n works voltage down
dont go too high with you memory ? rev are they, if hynix you be limited
you got 24x multi so no need for high blk
i gotta make you earn your overclock a bit lol
i had the pleasure of a 950 for 10 min lol
but now i'm stuk with a 920 and a 980x
What would be better out of the two options for RAM:
2000MHz @ C9
1600MHz @ C6
Just trying out a 4.2GHz and wondering which option would be better? I suppose I could also up the UCLK speed to 4GHz with the 1600MHz option...
no real world gains over 1600mhz x58 is bandwidth limited but tripple channels makes up for it
myself i run 1720mhz cas6
even if i ran 2050mhz cas7-8 no real gains but its fun
p55 is different story it loves n needs bandwidth i run mine @ 2100 cas7
New 0704 Bios Klick too HWLuXX
thx
nice... I like how we keep getting new bios files every few weeks.
Geez ... I haven't even tried 0702 ... :(
The supplied active NB heat sync is too big to go with my Utra 120 CPU sync. Anyone else doing a guetto cooling system with a 40mm fan?
Right now I'm about 60 degrees at idle, wouldn't mind getting it down a few more degrees.
im in the high 30's to 40s on my torture rack jeff for reference. Fans all over though def help
Yah, I'd pound it with air and keep it open if I didn't need major silence when mixing down audio.
http://www.scythe-usa.com/product/ac...0l_detail.html
This little guy doesn't move allot of air, so I'm thinking it's going to have to be right down flush with the passive sync, offset a bit to avoid the dead spot. Would pull be better in this situation to not push the heat back down on itself?
anyone running this new bios yet? i skipped 0702 :ROTF:
is 0704 public release or a beta again?
i like the sound of those extra settings might help with my rig :)
Do you have a link where we can find it? I have 0602 and its running fine at 4.3 Ghz
bios 704
seems to read the correct volts for cpu in everest ultimate more accurately
when i installed windows re-recognized my cpu, (new microcode?)
seems better than 702....smoother
here u go;
http://www.mediafire.com/?g3ncuiagknz
I just flash from 602 to 704 and My crossfire Setup is now working, I didnt have to make any voltage modification or anything except for vcore. I didnt even touch the IOH voltage (1.19v for crossfire)
Thanx for your help everyone...
Newb question ... IOH refers to In Out Hub or the SouthBridge? And ICH refers to Integrated Controller Hub or Northbridge? What controls the PCI-E voltage? In BIOS there are IOH PCI-Ev and ICH PCI-Ev ... which one does what?
PS: Also flashed to 0704 ... ASUS EZ-Flash 2 is the best
Yet another crap retail i7 980x!!! :(
seriously... :)

Just wondering if anyone has a W3570 in there R3E. My w3570 is is a gem batch and it does 4.2 easy as but when i try for 4.4 linx fails going into 2ndpass
I have tried all i can think of but cannot for the life of me get it stable.
My cpu does 4.8 on casecade with 1.3 volts i thought for sure it would do 4.4 on water.
I have even up the cpu volts to 1.4 and nothing
Have aloso tried different multi's
Have even tried 20x210 for 4.2 it wont even do that
I just got the R3E today to replace Gigabyte EX58-EXTREME and I have a big problem with my RAM
It is OCZ Blade DDR3 2000 CL9 (9-9-9-30-2N)
The exact RAM worked fine with the Gigabyte Extreme Mobo but it gives no POST with the R3E , the strangest thing is that it did the same thing with a friend's Asus P6T Vanilla mobo
I can't get the RAM to POST @ 2000 CL9 but it workd fine @ 1600 CL7
With the Gigabyte Mobo I OCed my Core i7 920 to 4.22Ghz and RAM @ 2010 9-9-9-28-1N
Voltages for Gigabyte were :
CPU @ 1.275v
VTT @ 1.555v ( Yes it is high but the Blade RAM would only work at this high VTT Voltage)
DRAM @ 1.66v
With the same settings and voltages, the R3E would not POST with 2000Mhz DDR3
So , I have 2 different Asus mobos that refuse to POST with the same Memory while Gigabyte worked just fine
What can I do ?
I've tried different BIOS settings/ Voltages with the same No POST problem
I've even tried BIOS 0704
thanks mate any chance you could do a bios template for me ? Would much appreciate it.
Also what bios are you using.
Thanks
These are no my setting but just a template i grab would you mind editing with what your current bios settings are

Thanks needforspeed
Will try that later when i put mt rig back together.
Cpu volts seem high for 24/7 what are max temps we can go on these chips for 24/7?
EDIT
Load-Line Calibration [Full]
CPU Voltage 1.415 [1.368]
You LLC is on FULL doesnt that increase voltage when underload?
Your CPUV is set to 1.425 in Bios and underload it does to 1.368?
When i had my llc on FULL it was increasing Volts under load
Unless I read bingo's post incorrectly third party CPUv should be fixed shortly. :woot:
Anyone having issues with the board not posting when you make a change in the BIOS?
Every time I change anything, it fails to post. Even if everything is stock and it has nothing to do with overclocking...
Is this after you flashed to new BIOS or just any change to BIOS settings? Seems strange, but I always set to default settings (F5) before flashing BIOS. I use ASUS EZ-Flash 2. That is the best way to flash BIOS IMO.
Strange thing happened today though. I have my two HD4870x2's in X-fire and when I went to new Catalyst drivers 10.5, I had strange artifacting and then reboot. I did not change voltage in PCI-E after flashing to new 0704 BIOS. I had to remove one video card and remove drivers via hardware device. I then was able to reload new 10.5 drivers and everything is okay. But question is which PCI-E voltage do I change? Southbridge or Northbridge?
You just hit the Code button and add the text you want to add. Its best to copy someone elses template and then just edit the proper items and post that within the Code tags. example below, just remove the spaces and add your settings where the "X" is.

Hi zsamZ,
very impressive,
What ram are you using "domintor" im using gskill trident starting to think its the ram bottlenecking my oc.
would you mind posting your bios settings.
Im having trouble running my 920 over 3.8 without serious instability, runs stable at 3.8 but Metro 2033 crashes randomly and i have to manualy reboot the machine.
Ok so this is not true...I just forgot to Enable Crossfire in ATI Catalyst :(
I'm so ***** tired of that problem, can't even use both of my cards together
I tried everything
-Higher Vcore (from 1.3375 to 1.48v)
-Higher VTT
-Reduce the PLL to 1.78 but thats worst, dont know why lowering it will help or even touching it
-Raise the IOH Voltage up to 1.35v , dont work.
-Raise the IOH PCIE Voltage up to 1.65v, same issue
-I flashed the BIOS to 0704
-I flashed both of my VGA Cards
-Reduce Uncore (WhY? its VGA problem)
Nothing seems to work. the only thing I didnt try is using Ez-Plug 1 Molex but I doubt it will work because I heard it was for Trifire and Quadfire?
If anyone could help...Im about to go crazy...I went to bed with all those problems in my head and I kept thinking (dreaming) about it, Nightmares
5850 crossfire? what is it doing?
I always get BSOD 0x0000009c after a short time....even at stock Overclock, CPU and everything stock... short time is 2 minutes...Im happy to have the VGA selector button on the mobo, that way I dont have to always remove the card, and they work both perfectly alone when not crossfire :(
have you tryed switching the crossfire connector to the other fingers
hmmm i cant get the bottom EZ PLUG plugged because of my TJ07...there's like a metal piece covering half of it... the top one is fine though...very tempted to just get a DD Torture Rack and be done with it all lol...bloody cases...rice mod i tell ya
Still not working... :(
Please guys help me with this :
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&postcount=739
I also have another problem, CPU temp seems fine (45-50 C Idle, yes my cooler sucks !) but ICH and IOH temps are sky high ! ICH is 72+ C and IOH is 76+ C ....Both IDLE !!!
pop off the heatsink and replace the ASUS tim, dropped temps over 10°C-15°c here... make sure the heatsinks get some air...
I'm back with my issue fixed
I was using 10.5 Catalyst, I just did a a Driver Sweaper Clean and installed the new ATI Catalyst 10.6
everything seems to work fine now. IOH is at 1.19v.
Splave thank you so much for helping me and showing interest in my problem, thanx.
GPU1 Temp (on water) avg 38'C under load at stock (VRM is at 39'C)
GPU2 temp (on air for this week) avg 60'C stock (I'll receive my fittings this week, and I'll install my EK Full Re3 water block)

Nice work karlitos:cool:
same case as me, I have a 360 ek rad thinking of adding another 360 or 240 to the bottom of the case like you have.
Did you cut the case to fit that bottom rad?
I cut both the top and the bottom, as you can see, the top as a shroud on it, this shourd is to add space to my case....The shourd has another set of 3 fans in it, so I have my 62mm thick radiator with push/pull fans configuration, I plan of adding another external rear 140mm Radiator (GTs Stealth 140) I also had to remove the bottom HDD cage
The EK Dual Top pumps in my drive bay has been fixed, on this pic you see that its not perfectly installed straight
This is the shroud Im talking about , look at the top
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._5144293_n.jpg
Karlitos that looks gorgeous man, love the tubing and red/black scheme
Im watercooled but im still getting reading in pc probe like 36-40 at ideling very wierd.Karlitos what temps u getting dude.
CPU or GPU?
CPU is idle 37'C with my side panel on. 33'C with side panel off....Thats because I dont have my full waterblock on my Mobo, and the heat is going in my 360 radiator....when I'll have my mobo block...only the ram stick heat will go in that rad
GPU idles at 29'C, full load (OC to the max with 1.25v) I get 40'C on every part except the VRM is at 60'C
cpu but when i had a qx9650 i use to get like temps at 24-28 never over 30 at idle.Maybe these i7 chips produce more heat thats all i can think really.I also got a 360 rad but only cooling cpu nothing else.
Okay ... I still don't know which PCI-E voltage to increase for X-Fire ... is it the IOH or the ICH PCI-E voltage?
anyone post me some settings to try to hit 4.2ghz plz.At the moment im at stock 3.33ghz and memory 2000 xmp 8-8-8-24 1.65
what kind of BSOD you get, if its 0x00000116, then its the IOH Core....
I have now a working Xfire setup and I can run both HD 5850 with 1.19v IOH COre Voltage (No overclock GPU)
But for heavy overclocking...I was able to run without error at 1.25 v IOH Core
My PCIE IOH Voltage is raised by 2 bumps at 1.53v
i just ran my980x at 1.375 at 4.2 ghz prime95 temps where hitting like 75 scary had to back down plus ioh was hitting nearly 70 to
Ooohhh, thats a little bit high.
My i7 930 is at 4,3 Ghz and Im using Linx to stress test (70'C)
But Now I've add my second HD 5850 to my setup, but can someone tell me why I lost 3 G-Flops (from 55 to 52 G Flops) while Linx Stress
Is that normal...even with much Higher Vcore I get the same GFlops
Hey guys I currently own a x58 evga classified mb 3 way an was thinkig about buying the rampage 3 mb .. How is it so far for ocing the board and what about tempson the board? Worth it for me to buy this or just keep my board I have now? I'm digging the future proof 3.0 USB connects and a few other goodies the rampage has to offer.
whats the highest temp u can go on these 980chips
honest answer, it will throttle when its too hot ;)
I usually dont like to be stressing much past mid 80c's for 24/7 use though.
I was using 602 for over 6ghz.. I think it's pretty good! Has anyone else tested 602 and LN2? Is there a better one..
I know that 704 has more options for LN2
I replaced the heatsink with the Active fan one and ICH / IOH temps are 61 C - 62 C idle , still high but better than before
Room temp is 26 C (With AC)
It is now OCed to 4.22Ghz CPU but RAM is at 1611 CL7
I can NOT get it to 2000 CL9 and that happened before with a friend's Asus P6T
Is there any compatibility issue between OCZ Blade 2000 CL9 and Asus mobos ?
I need BIOS settings for the Core i7 920 and OCZ Blade 2000 CL9
I have another observasion :
With my Gigabyte EX58-EXTREME and OCZ Vertex 2 50GB SSD, Windows 7 Boot with blazingly fast , but with Asus R3E it takes alot on the "Welcome" screen before logging into Windows
Thanks in advance
I will try 3N but it worked fine with Gigabyte with 1N !
Nope
Even at stock speeds it takes much, much longer for Windows 7 booting (With Gigabyte I was not even seeing the Welcome screen but with Asus R3E it takes about 20-30 seconds !!!)
I've tried QPI Voltage up to 1.6v and still no post (Gigabyte worked just fine at 1.555v VTT)
I've noticed Asus boards in general seem to boot slow into Windows. I figured out on my P5K if I disabled the onboard audio it would boot quite a bit faster. wonder if that's the case with the RIII.
Could the people with the motherboard blocks please get them installed and show us some pictures :p:. I am thinking of getting one but I am also undecided on which version to get (plexi/acetel).
I'll have a pic next week, Im just waiting for a couple of fittings.
I choose plexi because I have both of my GPU blocks in plexi..the plexi is damm good quality
Thanks dude, your setup does indeed look pretty sweet atm. My one will look quite simalar when I am finished, 800D, all black apache fans, tygon tubing, red fluid, black braid, you get the idea haha. Will also post some picutres when I am finish, I too am awaiting fittings. I still haven't upgraded both my graphics card (GTX 280) and haven't got myself an SSD yet :(.
to better contacts...
