Do you guys know why I am stuck at 465 fsb on asus maximus and what might be causeing DET RAM hang when trying to use ballistix ddr2 1066 sticks? I have gone over 475 fsb on other motherboards and all have no probelms with ballistix , i have had to use mushkin xp8000 sticks to get my board to post with new 0907 bios? e6750@3.73 465fsb , I dont know what trans booster or fsb strap should be set at I left everything auto except for cpu volt 1.55 and mem volt 2.4

Hey guys I just put some new mx-2 on my cpu and tried rebooting and had no luck getting it to post. Then I noticed that the cpu voltminder does not light up. All the other voltminder leds light up just not the cpu one. I know I didn't make a mistake on the mx-2 application, been doing it for years. How could my CPU just randomly die?
First off if you would take the time to read his post and not just run your mouth you would see that he is running STABLE and IDLES at 40c @3.4GHz @1.40 volts ON AIR so thats not bad at all. But your advice is to rma the cpu:rofl:Quote:

I have tried many variation, using BS400 and 800@4-4-4-12, 1066@5-5-5-15, 800@5-5-5-15, all give me same problem. some settings will reboot earlier, others a bit later, but same problem. I ran using 1HDD, also same problem.
Reseated cpu, reinstall the whole mobo after rearranging the cables, etc etc.
Did memtest on each stick individually, and in dual stick mode (for both sets) and it will turn out no error even at 1066 settings.
I have tried various voltage settings, and recommended settings in this forum, as well as the other 200++ page forum, and googled everything i could on maximus formula. I tried 602 and 907 bios, same problem. And even in 907 i get very high temp reading, when running everest, i could only do memory test, as it uses 50ish% and cpucore0,1 at 90+degree C. I couldnt even do cpu test because it goes >100C, that's like.. BOILING point. But the sink isnt even hot. Orthos will cause a thermal alarm and shut down. ARG!
As you can tell this isnt really a gaming machine, more for graphic/video/coding work.
I am extremely frustratred now, please help shed some light on this very very strange board. I will supply any other information that I might have missed out here.
What are you using for cpu cooling?

How hot is your case? Are you getting the bsod or just a shutdown.I hade a 750w power supply that would shutdown if the case got over 40C .

Also, what are your load temps now? And have you downloaded OCCT and run it with Everest to see voltage curves? That reboot sound like a voltage issue of some sort. It woudl at least be good to rule voltage out as the culprit.

Try disabling "Loadline Calibration" and set your CPU voltage to about 1.35v for now. Save and exit the bios, go back in and goto the "Hardware Monitoring" section and make sure it shows about 1.32v there for vcore as well. If not, go back to the settings and increase it, save + exit + re-enter bios until it gets 1.32v or slightly above.
The crashing while idling even at stock mhz, volts etc is sometimes caused by enabling Loadline Calibration so in order to fix it you have to disable it. This doesn't happen to everyone and it sounds silly that it would crash at idle + stock but it happens and it can be fixed. This was confirmed by Anandtech in one of their recent articles with an Asus P5E3 and the latest QX9650...

One negative is that your vdroop will now be slightly larger than before when your CPU is loaded. However, if you can find the right vcore to offset this for a given stable Ghz then it's not really a major issue :)

After my post earlier, i had turned down the core V to a super low 1.25V, reading about 1.21 on everest/cpuid. And it ran stable at stock speed 2.66 until now, idle cpu temp is at a ridiculous 18c? no possible coz my room is already 25! core at 40C, load to about 70+C.
I dont use occt, i did try othos and everest stability test. Previously on 1.32V, my load temp went to 100 on core1! but the sink doesnt feel hot at all. And i read so much about maximus bios not reading temp properly, yet my coretemp, everest, pcwizard all read the same temp back to me.
now i am suspecting perhaps the thermal grease is screwed, gotta go get a tube of AS5 soon.

Anyway, I just bought AS 5 thermal compound to reapply as well as reseat the TRUE and I did get a better temp, but only by a small margin since it's still at 90 for 2 cores under full load @3.4Ghz (it was like 96 b4 I reseat). Don't know if it actually take some time so the thermal compound can reach its maximum conductivity.
Btw, I notice there are some scratches on the base of my heatsink and I think that could be the issue, too much hassle for me to RMA the heatsink anyway so I think I gotto find another way to keep the temp lower.

Sorry, but I don`t understand completly(because of my bad english). I use an E6750@3,6Ghz, what do you want/need? You run 3,33 with 1,25V and 1,3xx and higher gives you reboot!? I know that my E6750 runs 3,5Ghz with 1,325V bios and I need to go higher to 1,337V bios for 3,6, but that is the lowest vcore for 3,6 and I tested that, I didn`t test lower vcore for 3,5Ghz. I did know that before I got my new non-SE and I just flashed to 0903 and stayed with to get more realistic cpu temperature. I am not so sure about VFSB, but I came to this value 1.49 based on the various posts i read.
80-90 is in Celcius, for the cpucore, at MAX load, 100%. I know it is too high, but idle temp seems normal, 40C-45C. My room temp is already 25C. It goes up way too much when loaded, which is why i suspect the paste might not be good anymore after a few fan/cpu reseat.
I searched google, but couldn't find what I needed: do you know any utility which can set RTC Alarm clock values from windows? There are many alarm clocks but they only support S1 and S3 states, not power off, like RTC does. Do you know any solution?

Guys, I'm now at 3.4Ghz prime stable for over 10 hours and OCCT stable as well. Core temps are still high but I can see there's a big difference compare to what I had couple days ago (b4 I apply AS 5 and reseat heatsink). They're now 85-85-82-82 at full load and 50-50-48-48 at idle with case temp is 39C and room temp is 51F.
The NB voltage is high though, I got like 58 at full load so I don't know if I should reapply thermal paste for the NB and SB as well.
Anyway, I'm gonna try 3.5 2nite and possibly 3.6, if it's stable then I'm happy with it. :)

About the Prime BSOD, you may need a little more voltage on the CPU because at 400 FSB/266 Strap you are at the max potencial of the Strap. Give it a try, it was necessary for me.

one thing i did to this board *i have non se* that helped was adding (zip tying) a 55mm fan to the nb... temps went from 65 *before* to 55 *after* according to temp readings from bios. sure its ugly, but it worked! stupid for me to say something this obvious but nobody else is saying anything like this except 1 person *smart guy* who used a antec spot fan
Your NB temp is not high, it's low. Mine is around 75 C loaded and 68 unloaded and is rockstable running prime 95 and 3dmark in loop for 48 hours simultanious. This is a good value compared to Intels official specs for the NB max load temps that I posted a vew pages back (were around 95 C). Just follow the link to Intel X38 thermal guide and don't listen to not qualified statements you read here which tell you over 60 C NB temp will be unstable blabla....Quote:

I try to move up to 3.6Ghz but fail OCCT after just 1 min, don't know what went wrong since I tried every settings from the members of this forum but still unstable. :( Any ideas what should I do for 3.6?
What's the word with LOADLINE CALIBRATION? It seems to completely eliminate vDroop on my system... is it bad to leave it ENABLED? I don't see many user BIOS settings in this thread where people have it on.
Then look again, or search the thread, LC was discussed weeks ago. I enable it when ocing cpu and disable it, when not ocing cpu.
Most other guys do, too. But here was a user with problem to get system stable with LC enabled and very low OC. After switching to disable, system became stable.
hey guess what, i plug back in the stock heatsink, re-spread thermal paste, change the fan with the one from pentiumD (which spins at 2600-2800 average), and my temp dropped significantly, about 30-32C idling, now gonna test max load and see where it goes up to :)
update: orthos smallfft load --> 59C max woohooooo
I am going desperate here.No matter the settings i use i can run the pc all day for gaming and internet browsing/downloading. I can run it at 8x425 and 8x440.
But whenever i run Blend test under Prime95 at both speeds i get an error after exactly 47-48 mins.No hung ups,freezes or bsod.Just an error on one of the cores.On the third one almost always.Anyone have any idea?
I havent tried to go any further because of this problem.If anyone had a same issue plz help me out.

iastudio, I have the opposite situation. Where I used to run core at 1.45 on 680i (P5N32-E), I am now running at 1.4v... actually, I'm running higher FSB as well. 1.68v sounds really, really high... that same 1.4v is running my B3 quad at sigged.

yeah, it is high. I have a early week chip that has always needed a lot to OC. I'll try to undervolt it and see what happens, but I'm talking more about the general amount of voltage needed. Anand seemed to think the board was not the best OC'r for chips that needed over 1.55 to OC. Soemthing about the voltage not being so stable at those levels.

it is prime stable 8 hrs + and load temps are low 70's idle mid to high 30's dependant on ambient air temp. i am on water cooling, specs are in sig... and if you are that picky, im using zalman super thermal grease *cleans off nice and has a brush applicator :up: * sorry no screen shots (not running prime for that long again because i said to myself id quit oc'ing this mofo because it is addicting) but what the hell is the point of lying (yeah im lying about a 1.325 vid cpu) when all we are doing is trying to help each other?

does water cooling the northbridge help any with over all overclocks? ive got a little fan cooling it now. its chilling at around 55c load, from what it was before which if i remember right was around 70... it was even too hot to put your fingers on for too long... stock volts and all. i have not reseated anything on the motherboard because im lazy and id have to undo all this water cooling junk in my case to get to it... luckily i havent put my graphics cards on liquid yet so if any of u guys recommends me doing this as a matter of urgency it wouldnt be TOO big of a problem i suppose

I agree, answer is always "YES". However, I'd try for matched higher FSB as the 10x multi is holding you back. Lower to 7x or 8x for same high clock but more FSB. This mobo is great to 500+ FSB with ease. I had the have the Q6600 on another mobo and it is FSB limited to barely 504FSB so the Q6700 should get you a tad more.Quote:

Hi, Monstru. I find 333 and 266 to give me the best bandwidth (I use Everest Ultimate 4.2 as my bench).
I have attached some 4GB benchmarks. Scroll down for the Maximus (most of them are from P5N32-E). I didn't put the NB strap, but you can figure it out from the ratio.
Best advice is to test it yourself, because your system might behave differently...
I started my computer yesterday and LCD monitor was showing "CPU INIT". I reset the bios, but nothing changed. I called the ASUS technical support and they issued me a RMA # for the motherboard. I wonder what happened since day before it was working fine.

I'm definately giving my cpu enough juice and the mobo voltages are even a little high for dual core. When I lower the mobo voltages, it makes things worse. I even loosened the board timings to ensure that wasn't the culprit.
