still getting typical 0.04 to 0.05 droop...droop is less if the actual vcore is lower, like 0.03v droop if i use vcore around 1.31...as you scale upwards in vcore, the droop increases since the power need is increasing...this is part of intel's spec design so the processor would not get spiked with overvoltage...remember, intel does not officially sanction overclocking but certainly FUGGER put a show on displaying how good of overclock he could attain at Intel's headquarters!;)

Volkswagen, I believe that the newest beta bios will help with your vdroop on your quad. The newest bios out is 16.10 1 or 2 pages back

I was referring to the voltage bug where the CPU fan voltage gets stuck at 100% regardless of the uGuru settings, after which you have to shut the computer down, shut off the power supply for a few seconds, and reboot to get it to be controlled by uGuru again.

are you using a 4 pin fan like is on intel fans?...if it is a 3 pin like the most of us, that is probably the cause of the problem.

The pause in the boot sequence is not due to the test for the lengthly memory self test. The quick test is enabled. I turned it off one time and that takes forever - much longer than the ~1-2 minute pause that I get now.

Problem with the new BIOS B 10.10 was that after clearing everything, it tries to come back up with 1.8 volts to memory and SPD timings - which don't work, and I couldn't even get into BIOS setup to change things. So I had to remove two sticks, then I could get into Setup, set voltages, timings, etc., then after a boot, reinstall memory, and now finally working fine.

Guess I'll have to go through that process everytime I update BIOS - which is one reason why I wish we could get information about what the BIOS changes are indended to address.

Could be. Doesn't make sense that it would work for a while, then get stuck at 100%, though. At any rate, I am using Aux1 as my CPU fan header, and it seems to be working fine. It only drops my Yate Loon down to 900RPM instead of the 600RPM that the CPU header did, though. Oh, well.

Are there any new memory dividers inbetween 1:1 and 1:20?

looking at your specs i see a dual receiver....what is that?...you might want to pull that out for a short time to see if that changes anything on the post-up.

the next thing is raid 5 making it 1 Tb of storage....are you using the intel controller?

many board makers have the vdimm reset back to 1.8v...that is why it is important that your dimms will boot at 1.8v so you can recover form a CMOS reset without putting in a different memory stick, which works at 1.8v.

abit does not release a text update document for beta bioses...they verbally tell the recepient who is usually a hardware website/forum site reviewer.

does it have to be at 3.6 ghz?...are you trying to prove a point to a non-believer?:D

i'll tell you right now for my QX9650, at 3.6 ghz, it will require relatively low vcore to complete wPrime 1024M stability bench and slightly higher for Prime 95...what's you flavor?;)

here is 3.6 ghz doing P95 for about 15 minutes...the only problem...i can not set the vcore any lower than 1.20v actual vcore...this 9650 will do stock speed at 1.04v vcore...abit kind of ties our hands with not allowing users to set actual vcore below 1.20v...Uguru OC settings shows my VID as the lowest vcore available to be set...the only problem...actual vcore is 0.07v higher than indicated.

EDIT:...notice real temp 2.1 approximates Uguru core temperature...that is because the author wrote TjMax to be 95C versus 105C in coretemp...he has used one of those thermal guns to measure the actual TjMAx...according to him, intel has not published TjMax for the penryn and wolfdale and 105C used by coretemp program is not accurrate

CPU CORE VOLTAGE: 1.4525v (gives me 1.37v in windows, Vdroop?)
DDR2 VOLTAGE: 2.200V
CPU VTT 1.2V: 1.27V
MCH 1.25V: 1.37V
ICH 1.05V: 1.15V
ICHIO 1.5V: 1.55V

In cpu feature i have also disabled C1E Function and enabled EIST function

Concerning my RAM settings:

CAS Latency: 5
RAS to CASH DELAY: 5
RAS PRECHARGE: 5
Prechange Delay: 15
Everything else is left to Auto

Umm 3.2ghz seem stable as i ran prime95 for a few hours last night while i slept. I was wondering however if u think its possible to hit 3.3ghz stable as it boots fine into window but fails prime instantly and also when i start unrarrnig rar files it throws up errors all over the shop so its definately not useable in windows.

I havent updated any bios yet, do u guys recommend a certain bios? if u could maybe comment on my settings as well. i upped the cpu voltage to 1.45 real when i try 3.3ghz but its still not stable. my temps on load are 59C btw.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks a lot guys

edit: maybe lowering the multi?

THanks VW, well i read a bit of this thread, (gonna take me a whole day i think to get thru it :D ) and i took some advice i saw and did the following:

upped the fsb to 368x9 so i am now again at 3.3ghz... however i have also upped the MCH to 1.44v and upped the ichio to 1.65volts...

i heard its not a good idea to set the ich voltatge to high so i left that at 1.15v...

so far so good. prime95 hasnt crashed instantly and its been going for about an hour now.

one happy bunny. if this is stable i am not sure whether to go for another 100mhz... but i am running out of headroom on the ram as its nearing 1066 now. i knwo i could lower the divider but i want the memory bw and the overclock damnit :)...

edit prime still going strong and max temps of 55-56C, i tell u this tuniq 120 is a beast at keeping temps low :).

Are half multies present in the BETA bioses? I would be interested in trying 7.5x533 as my Wolfy needs quite a huge step in vcore going from 4.0 to 4.1GHz, ~1.33 -> ~1.39v so I don't think it's worth clocking it higher for my 24/7 config and I'd rather wanna try improve performance in other ways then as my ram and mobo still have a headroom to go. Mobo can go to ~550 FSB at <= 1.5v MCH, and would prolly do 533 at 1.37v or 1.41v setting. My DDR2-667 D9GMH ram is good for up to around 575MHz / DDR2-1150 speeds at 2.2v CL5 timings so I think I might have quite a bit performance to gain if using 7.5x533 instead of 8x500.

Currently using the latest official bios 14 that was shipped with the board, and vcore is way off in bios but that's a known issue with this bios AFAIK (1.4250v bios = 1.33~1.34v windows).

Also which BIOS do you think is currently the best for your system? (stability and performance wise in case there would be any difference).

EDIT: Well I found an answer already need either 16 beta 09 or 10, which is better?

guys what program will give me a more accurate measurement of temperatures for the cpu and the board components, atm i am just using abit guru and its just saying 61C under prime95, would like a bit more info

I will this weekend :) I am meeting with NickS and we will play arround with this. First we will test it in his Neo2-FR board ( I know the IP35-Pro should be better ) to see if we can achieve 9 x 400 which is all a borther is asking for :cool: This way I will be able to see if it is the board or if the best prime stable I can get out of my cpu is 3.5ghz. If I can achive the oc on the msi I will be in the market for a new board but before I buy we will go back to the ip35 pro and try some of those new beta bioses but to my knowledge none of them are focused on the Q6600 rather on the new 45mm chips?

Isn't VDrop the difference between what you set in the bios and what you get at idle, and VDroop is the difference between core voltage at idle vs load?

Maybe I've got it wrong, but that's what I thought they were defined as.

Anyone with a wolfdale tried out 16B10 yet? I haven't loaded it and am wondering if people are seeing changes or advantages for E8x00 users.

Question for y'all - for Vista 64-bit, what drivers do you recommend I install off of the first page in this thread?

There are some that are labeled 64-bit, but not 64-bit Vista (Intel chipset, JMicron SATA, ...). Are these OK or even necessary? Are all of the ports JMicron, or just the eSata ports?

Vista seemed to work fine without any additional drivers. Just wondering if there is any improvement to be gained with these driver updates...

Vista will install it's own default drivers if it thinks it needs a driver. That helps it work on most systems with the user not having to do anything.

However, the default drivers that Vista loads are often generic drivers that are probably not the best for your board. I installed all the drivers listed - the 64-bit versions where listed. Since I'm not using the 2 e-SATA ports, could probably have omitted installing the jMicron drivers for those, but went ahead and did it so I wouldn't need to bother later.

What is the best BIOS for a E8400 that you guys have tested ? I see a few beta BIOS here and wanted to know whice one is working the best for that cpu.

if you use Uguru, it will be the opposite way with set versus actual vcore...i can set my VID (lowest available) and it will give me actual of 0.07v higher.

so far for me, i like 16.B10...it appears to be very good for my QX9650...but...each of us have their opinions about this beta;)

I have also moved to 16.B10 on my board with the E8400. No problems so far, but I didn´t see any differences at the moment. Vdroop is the same for me as under 16.B09.

Well I tried 16 B10 and went back to 14 official lol. B10 fixed the inproper bios vcore values (1.3450v BIOS = 1.34v windows as opposed to 1.4250v bios = 1.34v windows) but it was also slower, mem latency went up and b/w slightly down. Also it seemed like I couldn't use 1.34v (windows) voltage for 4.0GHz stable and would have had to use slightly more but with v14 windows 1.34v value is enough so either the windows values are not exact with the different bios (BIOS values are way different between the bioses so no use to try and compare with that) or 16B10 has worse overclockability but as long as I use the vcore setting that barely keeps 4.0GHz stable I don't care about if BIOS shows correct or not.

Performance is important for me so whatever gives me best clock for clock performance and also doesn't provide any stability issues is what I use. Hopefully performance gets fixed in newer BIOSes though. 7.5x533 didn't turn out to give any reasonable performance improvement (well it did provide some) but the voltage bumps were not worth it and at 8x500 it lost to v14 bios so.

RPGWiZaRD, can you post your full voltages and timings to get 8x500?

RPGWiZaRD: glad it worked out for you...i am satisfied with 16.B10 EXCEPT for my multi is locked above 9X for my QX9650....this is two beta bioses in a row that has it locked....i might go back to 16.B04 to get it unlocked and then check the performance difference...i am currently doing DDR1068 on a set of GSkill DDR800 sticks which is giving me relatively good bandwidth at that DDR speed.

Just an update. I finally had the time to play a bit. Put all four sticks back in and booted to XP and all is fine in XP. It is in fact a problem with my Vista install. Set it all back to my original voltages for 3.6 and ran wPrime and tried a bunch of other things with no problems. Been up and running for almost two hours now where 4 minutes was the longest for Vista. Do I hear the distant sound of the airplane in the distance on it's way to drop the "F" bomb on my Vista partition?

the F8 thing worked only during that re-start for me...upon a subsequent re-start, it was back to the same situation...but...i think i found out what my problem was...i finally activated my installation and now everything stays the way it should after doing numerous re-starts....control panel opens; i can get into the system properties and so forth.

my problem could be complicated since i am pursuing the feature that disables vista64 driver enforcement 100% of the time without having any further intervention via the F8 key...currently it is working nicely that way...i had to NOT install about 10-12 windows updates...5 of them were definitely preventing me from having the disabled feature of the driver enforcement.

Certainly, as I had the voltages written up on a note here on my table in case I'd lose the settings and forget them.

CPU: 1.4250v (1.34v in windows due to old bios v14 as mentioned above)
DDR2: 2.200v
VTT: 1.27v
MCH: 1.37v
ICH: 1.05v
ICHIO: 1.55v
DDR2 Ref voltage 0&#37;
CPU GTLREF 0&2: 67%
CPU GTLREF 1&3: 67%

DDR2 timings are IMO very tight for 24/7 but that's due to great micron D9GMH sticks:

tCL: 4
tRCD: 4
tRP: 4
tRAS: 8
tRFC: 25
tWR: 10
tWTR:10
tRRD: 5 (could use down to 3, but saw absolutely no performance improvement, in fact it was more the opposite I lost some B/W, but we're talking very minor differences)
tRTP: 5 (same as above ^)

Since MemSet isn't supported with this mobo I can't mess with tREF or Performance Level but they're both on suitable values anyways, performance level = 7 which is the lowest these sticks handles and tREF = 2600T, not the fastest but should be ok.

Been using settings above since January sometimes without any signs of CPU degration despite really using the minimum required vcore for this to pass OCCT for example.

Yea I'm very satisfied with them due to the fact I use only 2.2v which is within the specified range 2.0 - 2.2v by the manufacturer. TRAS could be lowered even further to a low 22 ~ 23 but heh 25 looks better and good enough really. They are naked chips with 2x80mm fans over them. :p

Below at the settings I used with my DS4 with E6750 @ 3.75GHz w/ 1.20x divider. Very flexible RAM for overclocking, I know the old Ballistix Tracers for example does this easily as well but heh these are DDR2-667 rated sticks and clocks up to around DDR2-1150 with 5-5-5-x timings and very tight subtimings with only 2.2v so I'm not complaining.

Difficult to say as my sensors aren't the best, there's a 10C idle difference between the cores, and a little less on load, according to RealTemp around 53C if taking the avg number between the cores Tuniq ~1600rpm (not using any comp case and it's fairly cool in the room 20~21C I'd guess). PWM temps I don't remember but the 80mm fans I use for RAM also helps slightly for PWM temps. Idle temp is right now 35~36C on PWM at least. After 5 mins of OCCT it's showing now 44C.

some mobo makers tweak the chipset a lot more with tighter latencies (SPD set)...i think abit takes the easy way out so it can get more memory to work on the initial post using loose latencies through SPD settings.

i think your ip35 pro everest is close to what i got at 485 mhz doing 1:1

I see a lot of guys using the 8800GT with this board. I take it there are no problems running the PCIE 2.0 cards on this chipset. I am thinking of replacing my 8800 with a new 8800 GTS-512 (G92). Just want to make sure it will work.

unfortunately, NO with the IP35 Pro board...you can do it on DFI's LT X38 board and i also presume their P35 board too!

I just got one of these boards and need help. The temps are a bit crazy under load, speedfan shows 58, realtemp 50, core temp 51, everest 65. Which one is reliable?? I always trusted core temp but it normally shows higher than speedfan. I wouldn't bother but I changed my hsf from a Zalman 9700 to thermalright 120 x, so I'm not sure of what's going on here. Plus, is there a fix to run memory at 1:1.25 w/ 4g?? If I don't run 1:1, prime fails in 30 sec. I use bios beta 16 10. I know it's been answered before but it's hard to filter in 227 pages. Thanks for the help.

I just got one of these boards and need help. The temps are a bit crazy under load, speedfan shows 58, realtemp 50, core temp 51, everest 65. Which one is reliable?? I always trusted core temp but it normally shows higher than speedfan. I wouldn't bother but I changed my hsf from a Zalman 9700 to thermalright 120 x, so I'm not sure of what's going on here. Plus, is there a fix to run memory at 1:1.25 w/ 4g?? If I don't run 1:1, prime fails in 30 sec. I use bios beta 16 10. I know it's been answered before but it's hard to filter in 227 pages. on my rig, i have about 10C split between real temp2.2 and coretemp since coretemp is using TjMax of 105C and realtemp uses 95C Tjmax.

realtemp is almost the same as Uguru temp readout so i am bending in that direction.

as to P95 failure after 30 seconds in other than 1:1, that generally has to do with insufficient voltage for MCH, ICHIO and Vdimm....i would increase MCH first followed by ICHIO and then Vdimm...the 1:1.25 is a tighter latency (1066 memory strap) so more voltage is needed to provide the push through power for the data to get back and forth between L2, CPU FSB, MCH hub and ICHIO hub....one other voltage to be concerned with, although far less, is CPU VTT...i would set that in the 1.3X, low end range.

also, don't forget about CPU GTLREF...a Q6600 needs in the range of 67-69&#37; but experiment on the lower end too since bios updates might affect that point of stability.

Hi all!

Just got my system up and running! All I have to say is wow! This Abit IP35 Pro motherboard is awesome.

My specs are as follows:
Intel Q6600 SLACR (G0)
Abit IP35 Pro (running Bios 14)
Corsair Dominator 8500C5 (5-5-5-15 2.2v)
Watercooled setup
WD Raptor X 10000rpm
Pioneer DVR-215 Dual Layer burner

I just finished overclocking the cpu using Prime 95 torture testing all 4 cores (I used Prime 95 v.256).

To monitor temps I used both core temp and real temp, but from reading some responses in this thread real temp is the more accurate to go by. On water, my cpu maxed 46 degrees celcius on cores 1 & 4 and 42 degrees celcius on cores 2 & 3.

Prime95 was run on torture test set to "blend" option for 6 hours and all is stable!

My overclock is as follows:

FSB = 400
Multi = 9
DRAM Speed = 1:1.25 (DDR2-960)
PCI Express Clock = 101Mhz

Voltages:
Vcore = 1.4675
DDR 2 = 2.20v
MCH = 1.29
and the remaining voltages standard

Under Ram, I manually selected options as follows:
CAS Latency = 5
RAS to CAS Delay = 5
RAS precharge = 5
Precharge delay = 15
and remaining set to auto

since then, i increased (tweaked) my penryn, QX9650, to 63%.

when i was intially reading the tech documents, i read that the wolfdale cpu's should work with lower CPU GTLREF values of 63%...i took that to mean it applied to 45nm cpu's and found it worked good on my 9650...

as you know, every cpu is different as is motherboards for the same model, so it behooves anyone to experiment up and down from that value.

Do you really believe the CPU to be the culprit, especially from the same batch? I would think mobo's would be the PITAs.

Anyways, I do agree with Ace on experimenting. Took me a long while to find my sweet spot, although it may have been due to my old RAM setup w/crossed vendors @ 8G. :down:

Just wanna say thanks to all that help out in this awesome thread. I finally did the bolt mod and wanted to post my idle temps with a Q6600 @ 3.4ghz. PWM dropped 9-10C idle and 7-8C load after the mod.

What is your LOAD PWM temp?

My Idle PWM temps are 33~34c @ 400x9 & 31~32 @ 370x9...
My LOAD PWM Temp at 400x9 is between 67~70c :eek:, which I didn't like so I've since throttled back to 370x9 which gets my PWM LOAD temp down to 54~56c which I am more comfortable with.

I know I could probably use a fan to get the PWM down to my comfort zone @ 400x9, but I don't like the idea of rigging up a fan that close to my MoBo's circuits (I know I am a :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:, but I don't want to hurt my pretty little IP35-Pro :p: )

Load Temps doing Prime95 'blend' right now as I type:
Vista x64, 4gb ram

After 25min EDIT: Increased my intake fan (blowing over motherboard) to 2400rpm wow nice PWM drop of 6-7C off load temp.

Just wanted to also add for anyone interested doing the PWM bolt mod I find that the fiber washers with metal/rubber combo work the best.
I've tried regular rubber washers stacked in 3s as well as the plastic bolt cover designs found at Home Depot and both weren't as effective with my PWM temp.

I did the bolt mod and just got the rig running again. How are my temps? PWM is 67C under load... no idea what it was before the mod :shrug:

Prime95 was crashing after about an hour at 3.7GHz & I had no fan on the PWM or NB. They were scorching when I touched em. Now I've got a 12" floor fan blowing right on 'em and that seemed to be the trick. They barely feel warm to the touch now. Guess my NB or PWM temps were my limiting factor - I need to get some permanent fans setup.


oh, cpu idle was about 36C right after stopping a 3 hour prime95 run. & vcore is 1.4050v in BIOS

A question for all you ip35-pro owners: does your vcore fluctuate wildly even under full load? I am priming here and cpuz shows vcore jumping between 1.280 and 1.320 constantly. I had a couple of ip35-e's and also fp-in9, their vcore is dead flat under prime.

Yep. If you cool the fets (PWMs), it helps. The other thing you can do is the vdroop mod, which I have yet to do.

My vcore sits at 1.44-1.46v idle, and 1.39 load. I ramped it up in the BIOS to account for the droop under load.

Already cooling the PWMs with a 50mm fan. Before couldn't get 3.6 stable. Does your loaded vcore move beyond 1.39? I expect the idle vcore to change depending on various background jobs but I thought once 100% loaded it should stay constant.

A little. It will drop to 1.38 but 1.39 seems to be where it tries to stay. I'm not happy with it either way though, that's a helluva drop. I hate having to crank up the volts to keep it stable at idle (which makes it hot), so it can fall to where it really needs to be at load.

you can use a lesser vcore to maintain idle stability and when you want to rumble;) with the puter, use Uguru to boost the vcore or whatever setting you want increased.

Anybody notice that GTLREF&#37; decreased to around 62 keeps pwm temps lower?

edit: this is for a Q6600 overclocked specifically

I did the bolt mod and saw marginal difference in load and idle temps.
I decreased GTLREF% and now I'm seeing some really low PWM temps. (30-33C idle, 50-54 Load in prime95)

The only other variable explanation is that the MX-2 I used for the NB,SB, PWM mosfet heatsink cured in about a week (although I understand it doesn't need curing)

you can't set an undervolt in the BIOS, but you can use a pad mod to trick the mobo into thinking that your VID is lower than it really is.

Yes I usually check every other week, I checked the drivers last week & nothing new had been released.

i just switched from bios 14 to 16b10 to see what would happen with my temps. my PWM temps went down about 2-3C, but my cpu cores all went up about 2-3. anyone else experience something like that?

Man, I'm no quad expert but your Vcore sure looks low for that clock speed. Try a bump or two on Vcore and see if that makes it stable.

Actually, I was looking at the 1.32. Is that normal for a quad at 3700? That seems to be what it was under load. You may need to get it just a bit higher. But if it lasted 3 hours I would say you are pretty close.

When getting my E6600 to 3.6 it would fail after about 30-40 mins. One more notch of Vcore did the trick.

It would handle great overcook with 2 sticks or it will be the same as with 4 sticks of ram?

Neither I would pickup these. I use to have Ballistix and only the 8500 overclock as good as these. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231145
2 sticks are better than 4 because they wont stress your motherboard controller as much and require less MCH voltage.

Did anyone try to flash IP35-ProXE_bios to IP35-Pro?
