I have been working with a GO since yesterday. Also my DDR is holding me back. I is very stable at 900 MHz 4-5-5-12. But, that is all it will do at 2.3v. I went through that with the Dual core 9x. One thing I don't understand, when I loosen up on the memory timings, I get a OC failure.
I only have air cool, but I was not being held back by that before other problems failed.

It drops some. I have the Vcore set to 1.385. And I get 1.34 at idle and it drops to 1.31 under load. I want it to loop both Prime95 25.4 Torture Test and 3DMARK06 together indefinitely at that Vcore.Quote:

I run my DDR at 1.2v. I have not messed with the NB v, maybe I should up that a little. I don't even know what the default voltage is on that.
I think I am maxing out this PS. 520 w, with 2 RAIDs and a bunch of other stuff. I was hoping to get it up to around stable at maybe over 3.5 GHz.
But I will wait till the DDR3 comes down in price and get a new board and memory.

This is a test the other day with the Quad under XP. By the time I ran this one at this clock speed it was late. I only ran it one time. Maybe a few more runs it would have balanced out more. It run's everything 2 times. So, it is like having two tests. One with the overall and one by line item.

Under Vista I have the Vista power management configured not to drop the the Vcore when the multiplier drops to 6x.

Like I said, I want 110% stability with this computer. My default OS is Vista 64. Set up for Visual effect. I have a custom aero theme, side bar full of gadgets, TV card running, DreamScene, some FTP folders, and other TSR's. 24/7, not a good test OS. But I did run Prime95 for 8 hours.
Today I will order a OEM Vista Basic and dump the XP as my testing platform.
At this point in time, a fully loaded Vista OS is to fragile for testing. The registry and services is will not withstand BSD, bad shutdowns etc.

CPU PLL voltage is a BIOS setting on the P5K which I understand to be for fine-tuning the power supply of the q6600. Increasing the default setting can help stability of o/c with high fsb.
just got my G0, temps are about 7c different per core, with my ultra 120 extreme, i reseated the cpu with the washer mod, still the same, i dont think the bottom of the 120 is touching the cpu all the way down, any suggestions?
Temperature variance between cores is normal. You can try to reduce it by lapping the heatsink and the cpu.Quote:

The temps at 50c are the core temps. Is the the Intel Thermal specification of 71°C the CPU temp? I read on an Intel PDF that on a 775 you have to have the sencer mounted directly in the center of the die. My CPU temp in that pic I believe was in the high 30s. But, on average it is less (See the pics)

After many re-installs, I just dumped a Asus VR-Guard cooler. It was just a big hot hunk of copper. I even added a additional fan and it helped only a little. I put the OEM fan back on and then went to what I have now and this is the best out of the three. The min temps are not the best, but, the max temps are fairly low compared to the other two. I don't think I have a CPU cooling problem at high load for what I am trying to do.

Before that I dumped CORSAIR XMS2 8500cs DDR. It did not run anything close to the claims on my board. I replaced it with what I have now and I have better stability, mem speed and timings. This mem is on the QVL list.
I can believe how much DDR2 went down in price in 3/4 of a year. And the DDR3 prices are way out of site. I bet they will go down substantially in the months to come.
I would not install Vista Basic 32-bit. I believe I have seen the OEM Basic 64-bit at Directron.com. Also, I have installed Basic 64-bit on 2 computers with the Windows 64-bit Anytime Upgrade disk and a Basic 32 valid OEM key. I want it to read 4 GBs of memory.
I Vista install I have now is not setup for any Benchmarking. I have been running Prime95 though for probably 1/2 hour and all is good.
I picked a Vcore of 1.42 and that is as high as I will go. That should be safe for long term use (yes, no ?) I am at 8x 430 3440 MHz. 1:1 860 mem.
FSB of 450, I had a BSD at boot, FSB 440 I ran Prime95 for around 20 min and had a re-boot.
Now I am at 430 and all is good. If I need to go lower, I am just going back to the 360 9x and stay at that. You can tell by my Video card that I am not a gamer. But, I am a big time multi tasker. Vista feels real go with this 4 core CPU. I really notice a difference.
I would like to find a way to OC a ATI vid card in 2D. Just a little

One 24hr run of prime 95 is more than enough to prove any system stability for MB,CPU and memory- it maxes the machine out way more than any normal use of multitasking will do. I have never bothered with more than a 12hour run but some forums demand it to prove your overclock. Depend on how keen you are - although as you want 24/7 use it worth doing.Quote:

Your idle temps seem high -Whats your case cooling like. I had an arctic cooler 7 pro before the ultima-90 and it would idle 37c @3.6 with 1.425v using MX-2 paste. If the load temps of 60c are with prime95 running that looks good to me.
Dont give up on 440 just yet - uses other BIOS options than vcore to try and get stability. I use not only CPU PLL increase for stability . I lapped my e6600 with no real gain but it seems a lot of q6600 are being reported as having a concave IHS. Check it with a razor blade light test - e.g get a razor or stanley knife blade and hold it on the IHS surface and see if it blocks all light along the length.if there is significant light showing you will benefit from lapping it - if not a waste of time. Sorry, Nooby...I have a Blitz Formula with a q6600 # 720A326 .. I am trying to run 3.4 I have water cooling ... I have to reboot over and over to get stable.. I have OCZ 8500 set at 945, 5.5.5.15 2.3v cpu volts 1.475. NB 1.55v if you go higher on cpu or nb it becomes unstable. Could ya help... thanks
