It sure can't hurt! Can you post you BIOS settings as well? Also, I see your MCH/DRAM Ref lower than normal...does that help? Much thanks:)
Thanks Loco23!
Important numbers I see in the datasheet for E8xxx....
From Table 3, Page 17 --- Vcc (Core voltage with respect to Vss (Ground)) 1.45v max
From Table 3, Page 17 --- Vtt (FSB Term with respect to Vss (Ground)) 1.45v max
From Table 4, Page 18 --- VID range .8500v min to 1.3625v max
From Table 4, Page 18 and Table 5, Page 20--- Core Vcc....This is the confusing part, no direct values given. Has anyone figured thise one out yet?
And then there is the max volts for the P45 Chipset to woory about !!
Did some benching on my E8500 with UD3R this afternoon. In one hour I did.

Am I right in assuming this with 45nm Duals....
1) Lower VID chips OC higher/better and with less volts, but put out greater heat.
2) Higher VID chips OC a little lower/not as good and with more volts, but put out less heat.
Wondering cause I am think of getting a E3110 (XEON version of E8400) and if it has a lower VID (which the XEONs usually do), then I was going to swap it for my E8500 that has a VID of 1.250. Any suggestions or experience with this. Thanks!
For me better higher VID.
Q9650 VID 1.2125 at 4.5GHz 1.45v - temp more then 80c, i can't cool it now, in summer.
Q9550 VID 1.25 at 4.37GHz 1.5625v - temp about 77-78с
I think lower vid chips do run hotter but take less vcore to reach a given speed. Im not sure they will oc higher in general. All depends how much vcore you are willing to use and what type of cooling you have.
That reads with what I've been seeing in this thread for good overclocks.
Right now I'm on air. I'd love to go water but I think my wife would drown me in it! :shakes:
I'm willing to put as much vCore as needed as long as I can keep temps in check when stressing for stability.
So, were back to the question of whether volts (and at what value) will destroy CPU!
I think its been shown too much vcore will eventually damage/kill the CPU. But we don't know how long that will take. If you intend on keeping it for a good amount of time maybe its best to stick within the Intel specs. If not....enjoy.
Is 2-3 years a good amount of time? I figure I will upgrade again in 2-3 years.
If I was concerned about it and wanted to keep it that long I would stay under 1.3625v, but that's me.
Updated version:
EasyTune 6 B09.0421.1
I couldn´t get hold on the D9JNM, the one that I could get was D9KPT, so I bought 2 sets of 2x2.
I tried 4x2Gb 1600 @ CAS 7 @ ~1,80v but they didn´t want to play with that so I settle with CAS 8 @ 1,64v for now, not bad for some value ram though.
It passed 25 loop LinX (2:42hrs) but throw me a error after 4:42hrs with P95 custom blend so i have to tune some more.
http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...RD10Turbos.jpg
I got up one notch with MCHv but it wasn´t enough she throw me an error after 8hr 56m. :D

Do you run more than one Prime at a time (I assume you do from the screenshots)? I have been testing my E8400 with just one Prime running, should I be running more?
Hi Nugzo, I finally got around to finalizing that 4500 rock solid stable setup for ya and the others.
Sorry it took me long but I wanted it to turn out perfect.
It's unbelievable but this cpu and board seams to be like wine, the older the better...
5 months ago I needed 1.39vcore for 4500 and never hit 12hrs Prime95 mark. This latest setup was able to achieve that with 1.32vcore, on same cpu and same GSkills PI that where abused a lot with high voltages for World Records achievements. Same thing with the CPU, loads of voltages, high pll (1.85pll) and it needs less volts for same setups everyday.
I'll post soon, keep following the thread.
I think he is running 4 separate primes is because that way it will use more memory. If i run 1 version of prime it uses 1,5Gigs (total) of memory in blend. But if i run 4 instances testing one cpu in each instance. Each prime instance uses 1.5Gigs. Meaning Prime is now using 6Gigs of memory instead of just 1,5Gig.
Ignore what i said, Looks like i was wrong. I was also curios in why he did that. Thanks Jor3lBR for the explanation.
I finally got around to get this template for you guys, sorry the delay...
This setup came with the summer. I know I was already with 4700Mhz stable setup but this 4500Mhz/4Gb_1200DDR2 is good because of the low voltages and maybe possible on AIR with good Hs's out there. the mem's used where the well known G.Skill's PI edition (4Gb).
Volts used: 1.32vcore / 1.34vtt / 1.50pll / 2.0vdimm / 1.40mch
CPU Cooling: WC Swiftech MCR : Thermalright XWB-1 : MCP655 : NBM-MAT 120mm Fans : 15000 BTU AC in the Room
Bios: F8. (works with any BIOS actually).
This also proves that degradation on these Quads is almost a Myth, this CPU is the same I had from the start and every time I prime95 an old setup I had it just blows the barrier of low voltages all the time. I need less and less voltages to achieve same clocks. This same cpu and gskill had to endure this to be here: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=227129 :ROTF:
I always try to send as many pics of the entire testing process (beginning/middle/end) because it shows the real voltage used with all the tests.

Impressive!
This is all starting to make me want to take mine higher...
What BIOS version are you using or recomend?
Jor3lBR...that's just awesome stuff!
Jor3lBR, was that done on the cryo?
@Jor3lBR
Very nice work  , some awesome chip you got :yepp:, keep the good work up.[/QUOTE]
Thank you. Any BIOS will do, I used F8 and F4.
I updated the thread with cooling used. CPU: 1 x MCR220 + 1 x Thermalright XWB1 + MCP655 + 2 x NMB-MAT's
Cryo-Z is only for benching now otherwise the electric bill would be to the roof.
Thanks for posting your settings Jor3lBr. I think my q9650 is capable of doing 4.5ghz using those settings + a little bump vcore but temps are out of control. Guess I need water cooling for a stable 4.5ghz. Not sure I want to spend any more money for a 775 rig with the i7 prices dropping though.
Watercooling is knocking on my door too OC Nub :welcome:
Just not sure what to order or how much of a pita it will be to change out hardware. Is it possible to get a real good setup for $300 or less? I hit 85c+ in LinX at 1.3875v. My CPU needs that or a little more maybe to reach 4.5ghz. Will water cooling get my temps low enough to run LinX?
I've been looking at the Swiftech H20-220 Apex Ultima watercooling kit that Leeghoofd has in his sig and did a review on.
I saw that also but have heard that kits are not the way to go.
I know that's the default statement. But this has a top notch CPU block, pump, and a very good radiator. For just CPU cooling this is more than I would need to run and 45nm Dual or Quad core. Ans at ~$225-250, the price is pretty reasonable compared to a custom setup. Not all kits are bad kits and some are very very good.
http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=get...70&articID=897
Im all for a kit, for one it would save time picking out parts and paying for multiple shipping charges. I just wonder what kind of results I will see. 5 to 7c lower doesnt put me where I need to be. Maybe Im not going to find what I need using water IDK. Maybe xtreme cooling is what I need but IDK if there are any that can be run for extended periods of time. I mostly play games and just fool around with oc'ing in between gaming.
Hey guys this is what I have. Been priming for 8 hours now. Ran the intel burn test 15 times no problem. The DDR3 ver of this mobo sucks for clocking ram. Good luck getting it over 1600MHZ unless your using the bugged 3:5. Anyone got getter ram speeds? have you seen that it seems like you have to run a little more then the rated voltage to the ram?
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...ghank/4250.jpg
Tell me about it, I have almost the same problem, I get past 1650 with 2x2 Transcend 1800C8 but then it starts to get me problem and the same with 2x2 Crucial Value 1333C9 (D9KPT), I don´t even get my 2x1 Dominator 1800C7 to run at rated speed.
I have seen one that have achive 2x2 DDR3-2000MHz @ 1,92 (Crucial Value 1333C9 ) on this EP45T but it was with a dual, it was pangingIII, check this out, don´t know how he did it but he did.
Leeghoofd had the same problem, a think that he had a little better luck with those low volt Elpida Hyper.
The good thing is that run a 45nm quad ~FSB 500 with these UD3 board is so easy., I just love it.
But FSB 500 ram DDR3-1600C7 is a little better then FSB 500 ram DDR2-1200C5 though, hope that cheer you up a little. :)
right on thanks! Looks like F1 bios could have something to do with it. man thats some fast ram!
been gone for a couple of weeks(no internet) but i got to say there are some great results
that have been posted while i was away.
P.S. great to see Jor3lBR back in action in the thread, went quiet for awhile.
Hey,
I can't seem to be able to go 1200Mhz+ DDR2 on my OCZ PC2 9200 Reapers. I used to be able to hit 1206Mhz Pl8 no problem 12 hours Prime blend stable when I tested with 8800 Ultra as primary gpu but now with HD 4870x2 as soon as ram hits 1200Mhz or higher (2.50A multiplier strap) Prime blend throws errors within an hour.
Running F5 bios, do I just need to tweak the Cpu VTT, Mch core/Mch ref values more?
hello guys...
i have a problem with my new platform...
can i say what is max pll voltage on my gigabyte ud3p?
my cpu is an q9650@4300 vcore 1.375 100% stable on asus maximus formula
i don't know max voltage for daily use and because now prime 95 give me an error on one of 4 cores...
this is my actual settings from bios and easy tune

@hank123
I see that you still hanging on to that EP45T even though you don´t love it.
i have just upgraded to 8gb of memory i have 2x TW2X4G6400C4PRO 2x2gb
and i have had the rig at 3.5ghz overclock with only 2 sticks of 2gb but getting the cpu @3.5 means the memory goes to 876mhz.
But i dont know if its safe to overclock memory and how long it will last at 876mhz i have 4sticks of 2gb now can anyone help me becuse i cant get the memory any lower in speed.
The motherbord im using is the ep45-ud3r i have a gtx 280 no oc and all i want to know is i have the cpu @3.2 and it is stable is it worth going for 3.5 and overclockg the memory as well im curently getting 16553 on 3d mark 06 if it helps
thanks guys i hope you can help
ya dude I have a Rampage Formula coming in. kind of sucks that its only ddr2 but it will be fun to play with.
The FSB is sweet on this mobo. right now got the e8500 running at 4.5 with 1.360V under load. had to bump the voltage a little failed prime95 after 13 hours 1 min
Can someone please guide me to a good starting template for a Q9650 & UD3P running at 4050? Just upgraded to this board today.

Biggest thing is figuring out the % stuff. You gott know how to do math. Its gonna take some reading. the more you read the more you learn. the more you learn and really understand the HIGHER your OC will be. I have spent 30+ hours getting to know this board. Ya i still think the DDR3 ver sucks over the DDR2 ver but its still a great mobo for the price.
Hope you gonna like your RF, it´s stable and robust board, not the best for quad though.
If you want to run DDR3 I think that you should go i7, LGA775 is no go with DDR3.
I agree, I just love the FSB on UD3.
BTW, it seems like Gigabyte gonna release some new boards and this one should probably be the last ultimate LGA775 DDR2 board to have.

Awaiting an EP45T UD5 !! My Gb contact already had a hard time getting me a P45 sample as most of the boards are EOL once I5 Pops up in the shops...
Hello there,
I own a UD3R and a e8500 (e0 stepping).
So, can you help me overclock this little monster ? ( My heatstink is Ultra 120 Extreme)
Any tips ?
What bios version should I use ?
Should I enable LLC ?
Should I mess with GTL Voltages or set them AUTO ?
\Thank you in advance!
What kind of ram do you have?
Here´s a screenie with a E8400 @ 500 4,0GHz and ram 2x1 @ 1200 CAS5 tRD8 (Static Read Value), hope it can help some.
Shouldn´t be any problems for you to reach that (with lower core volt), you should be able to reach 4,25 - 4,50 with a bus speed 500 and ram at DDR2-1000 (use Latch 400).

Dam thats a awesome CPU Radaja  and very nice work. I so wish I had that CPU :p
thanks fatguy1992.i would love to see how far it could with phase too.
"The higher-end EP45-UD5 looks very similar to the above model, but features the new 24-phase PWM which is a significant boost over the UD3P's 6-phase design. Theoretically, this model should overclock better than the UD3P, especially with quad-core processors."
If this come out in DDR2 flavor it will be a pleasure to see what this baby can do! Comon 24 PHASE
Can anybody help me here?
I can't seem to get my E6600 to 3.6Ghz :(...I get a BSOD on Windows startup or sometimes a few minutes into Windows at that speed.
With my previous mobo (680i), I was stable at 3.4Ghz with 1.30625v (1.288v CPU-Z) so voltage shouldn't be too much of an issue...even setting it to 1.4V yields the same result at 3.6Ghz. (Also, yes the RAM is stable if you were wondering)
These are the settings I tried for 3.6Ghz...

Those are your problems right there.
To leave those settings on auto is to ask for an unstable system.
Every CPU has a sweet spot and you have to set VTT to 1.20 and those two settings to their standart (0.760), then you will have to find on each one the sweet spot like -1 on CPU Ref and +1 on MCH Ref for example. You can only raise vtt from 1.2 after setting those.
Find a template that suits core duo and start from there.
To find out MCH Ref is easy, set it and Memtest #7 and #8.
This EP45 UD5 is good news, i7 can wait even longer.
Radaja: freakin awesome CPU, WOW from an E8400. BTW, where in the pacific NW are you from?
Jor3lBR: Does test #7, and #8 stress the MCH more I'm assuming? Test #5 stresses the RAM.
nate911: you will find alot of people say they like to keep VTT a couple notches below Vcore, some say raise it when you start upping your FSB
(ie. 450). Both are correct, just dont raise it too high. I wouldnt raise mine above 1.4 for 24/7 use.
@radaja
Awesome chip you have, come on break the 5,0GHz barrier :D
It´s a DDR2 version and with Gigabytes 2oc copper layer in the PCB and 24 phases I think thats gonna a be a awesome board, thee last ultimate LGA775 DDR2 board to have. :yepp:
As i said, with Gigabytes 2oc copper layer in the PCB and 24 phases I think thats gonna a be a awesome board, it most be better then the UD3. :yepp:
Sure can do. :yepp:
I still like the board. Got my Q9650 running stable at 4300Mhz, 1.344V.

thanks for everytone thats helping me on this :)
Seems everyone's having the same problem with the EP45T-UD3R... i can't get mine to run at 1600 CAS 7, like my ram is rated for. I have a 2x2GB OCZ platinum kit, 1600 CAS 7, 1.9v.
I can get it to boot, but as soon as i run prime blend it fails immediately. No matter what timings, voltage and strap i use, it's all the same...
Now, i started playing with the driving strengths, and these made a huge difference ! set them all to +8, just for the sake, and it made it last 10-20mins on prime blend before fail... quite the difference.
Too bad the board doesn't have the driving strength profiles... it's hard to tune all 8 settings for both channels :(
Does anyone have any experience with the driving strengths? care to share ? :)
i dont know if it is or not but raise the volts up 2 noches with the ram but i thught 1.9 will be low to dont go any higher that 2.1volts if your running stock latencies if that dont work only try 1 stick of ram and then the other stick to check if its the ram at fault but also try the memory in diferent slots as well thats all i can think of to be honnest if that dont work i really dont know
Hi Mate, thanks for that. I never tried going over 1.95v, as that's the RAM's limit according to OCZ (not the rated voltage, but the 'EVP'). But i just tried 2.0v, and it went from immediate fail, to it failing on the 3rd test, so i bumped it up to 2.06v, and it was passing a good few tests before i stopped it, so it defintely works... but it's just annoying how i have to run so much volts through it. :/
I also found out a while ago, when i was only using 1.92v, that lowering the DRAM reference voltages from 50% of DRAM voltage also help with stability. Maybe i could comprimise here; have lower references with higher voltage, could possibly bring it down a bit from 2.06v :).
These are the ref's i'm on about:
MCH/DRAM Ref
DRAM Termination
Channel A Data Reference
Channel B Data Reference
Channel A Address Reference
Channel B Address Reference
Thanks :)
Is there anyone that can tell me "how" to set my VTT (CPU Termination) ? ( I mean the idea and the concept of thoughts).
Is there any template ? eg for FSB ~ 400 --> VTT should be around 1.2 - 1.3 . . . . or how ?
coop,nice OC there:D
Thanks andressergio. I was inspired by your and radaja's and other post prior. Great motivation. Great job to all.
edit: I changed mems but still was unable to get more than 1m. By lowering dram volts and changing mch ref a notch, I was able to get 8m. Very picky, but the difference is alot.
