Only reason would be that new games are working slowly, so you need to upgrade to get driver optimizations for them.

Oh, they've updated mac pro specs now btw.
Now they have an ATI 5770! Thats right. And the only way to get a pre built mac with the awesome graphics power of a single 5770 is to buy a £4000+ mac pro.
Prior to that, the top Imac model now has a 1 Gb 5750! Sweet, £1650 for an Imac with an awesome 5750 and ...... a 2560 x 1440 resolution screen  id love to try Crysis on that
Hmmmm, £1650 for that, or £1800 for my PC, buying a little bit at a time as I can afford it and upgrading, Hmmmmm :D
I find it funny when people with macs complain on games forums that a game isnt being released for their mac
Gogo awesome mid range Imac for £1400 with an ATI 5670 512 Mb .... on a 2560 x 1440 screen
Oh darn, sorry for the offtopic.
@sparky:
If you think "bad" uninstall is causing those issues, then ATI has to fix their driver setup, because it claims that it can automatically update existing drivers. I don't want to go through 4 steps involving safe mode and 3rd party tool because ATI is uncapable of writing proper installer/uninstaller. It is not my duty as a user to constantly seek workarounds, it is the other way around -- they have to provide solutions. That goes for any software and hardware I purchase, not only ATI.
Regarding regressions introduced with new drivers, that is what regression testing is for -- to prevent it from happening.
For each fixed bug you need to have a test case that exposes it, and you need to test each new drivers against an evergrowing list of test cases.
Yes, it's PITA and it's a lot of work, as a developer I know it, but ATI has chosen to sell hardware and write drivers for it so let them deal with it properly already, instead with such half-arsed effort as it is now. Either that or at least stop bragging about IQ and awesomeness on twitter.
Your latest comments clearly show how frustrated you are that this thread isn't going in the direction you had hoped which seemed to be just try to tear down ATI. :shakes:
There ARE Nvidia threads about Nvidia driver issues and there ARE people who post positive results in them, sounds just like just like what you're getting here in this thread.
Keyboard warrior? Grow-up.
So you had a bad experience with ATI, others have had good experiences and felt like posting. Last time I checked it was a free country and a privately owned message board, not by you might I add so anyone is free to post here within the message board rules. Start your own message board if you want to police all of the posts. Do you own a siren already? :D
Fanboy? Grow-up. I just recently sold my Nvidia GTX 285 last year to get my current ATI 5850 crossfire setup. I'm not brand loyal to any brand, only what's best at the time of my purchase. I've been on back and forth on both sides of the fence probably before you even owned a computer. I've even owned a Matrox G400 back when it was a top video card, and even 3DFX Voodoo card before that back when they were the only manufacturer that mattered. :yepp:
Of course I'm free to start another thread, I covered that earlier in freedom to post what I want as long as its within the rules, I don't think posting anything here in this thread so far has violated the message board rules. I've been respectful to you in this thread even if I don't agree with your opinions, but you've suddenly started acting rather childish.
I'm glad ATI works fine for me too, which is why I posted here that it does along with the many other satisfied users. I'm sorry you had a problem with ATI and I hope you figure out what's causing it so you can enjoy your ATI product like the rest of us.
Whenever I update my drivers, I uninstall old, reboot, install new, reboot, done. Simple, painless. Learned way back in the geforce 3 days that installing over top of old isn't the best route to take as that can cause problems. Haven't had a driver update go wrong since.
I actually snort-LOLd
/agree
I'm sure the OP and others are having endless headaches with their ATI cards and drivers. Still I'm sure there exists a contingent of Nvidia owners equally dissatisfied for similar reasons. I myself have experienced all sorts of problems with compatibility configuration and down right shoddy kit from multiple vendors.
I'd like to propose a test method to determine the problem.
1) Make a clean OS install or image restore with default OS drivers(create an image if you don't already have one)
2) Install a driver, perform tests record data
3) Restore the clean image Rinse and repeat with a different driver version.
This should help you pin down whether the driver version is at fault or not.
Use your imagination regarding the construction of an experiment to determine if driver upgrades cause the problem your experiencing and conduct yourself accordingly.
If you're not willing to take these simple steps to verify your claims then don't bother creating random web pages making unproven claims hinged on impassioned rhetoric.
If you feel the need to ask my permission start a new sub-forum for it and I'll try to read it daily.
If you truly want to get to the bottom of the issue you must compose an experiment that will determine cause.
If you'd rather continue to misinform the world then proceed as you are.
I just upgraded from 10.7 to 10.8 in just a couple of mouse clicks. I think the problems people are having are from not following ATI instructions.
If you have a messed up driver install then follow this guys method to fix it. It is last on the list of tips. If you have a good install then his method is TOTALLY unnecessary.

ATI cards are likes buses- they're huge, red, and have bad drivers.
don't forget about raw power they have, only drivers make them look's bad ;)
Psshh buses are yellow :p:
no red :)
No yellow:)
recently bought laptop with amd phenom II and ati 5650 mobile.
all running great.
then figuring out ati has its own alternative to digital vibrance so i do some research only to find out it is't their.
so i install avivo package.
and still not working.
anyway apart from that if noticed 1 thing in 7 years time or maybe less ati catalyst control panel is still crap and tbh for as long that does't change i dont think ati has much for a future till they simplyfy the control panel.
just cant stand it atm.
so i dont think i will ever buy ati card for my main rig.
even if it was 10 times faster then the latest nvidia card cous i do really like to see ati try make better drivers and better control panel.... before i would ever consider.....
ati ccc does't compare to nvidia control panel.
nvidia control panel is much easy'r to use.
while ati ccc is nothing but bloatware tbh.
i'm still missing lot controls that i have avaible on nvidia control panel.
Ouch... reading all that... brain... hurts.
Only very small children cannot shut up while others are talking and are always competing for attention. Your posting in this thread is an equivalent, but you seem uncapable of comprehending that.
ATI really doesn't need my help to look bad.
From a perspective of someone who is using computers since LS74xx series ICs were made on printed circuit boards size of a 9600 GT, who has some experience with writing Windows drivers, and who built dozens of computers from scratch, I really do not need a lecture on how to install/reinstall/clean drivers, how to troubleshoot things, and keep my OS in good shape.
I am not willing to waste time verifying obvious things. Why don't you go and suggest to Terry Makedon that he should verify his claims about ATI's "pure awesomeness" instead? Reading the complaints on their own forum would be a nice start.
That is a job for Beta Testing and QA department, not for customers who paid for a final product.
1. My claim that some things do not work for me is misinformation for you, because for you "everything works fine".
2. Your claim that everything works fine is misinformation for me and others who have problems and for those who might have problems upon purchase.
Guess which one does more damage to ATI corporate image?
Seriously, is this the best reply you could come up with after having days to think about it? That's quite sad. Grow up dude, I'm older than you are so calling me a child is pretty immature. I see you're still looking for attention though, just keep coming back to this thread over and over hoping someone will side with you. You poor thing. :horse:
