Not really, comes down to looks, and I agree the balck one is wayyy better looking

Hi,
I have a question, maybe it has been discussed before... just too many pages to read..
With classy 3way i had stable on 4.2 temps idle on 32 degrees.. this board gives me just @ 3.4 35 degrees idle :/
Can anyone confirm this ?
*Edit* Nevemind... figuring it out.. temps seem to not jump as much !
Thank you Ordering them today...
Where do I find them at?
Loved having them on the XMS2 Pro and might miss them :D
I had black acetel on my last board which look nice, But I noticed with the acrylic tops on the EK videocard blocks if you hide a LED next to them they light up top which looks sweet!
Ordered the acrylic top for the board this time and might get a couple red leds ;)
Here's kind of what they look like one blue one green my camera takes crappy night shots looks 10x better than the photo,

Great! Very low vCore, almost default.
No problem, just to check them out once more and I'll edit this post.
EDIT: Here it is, side by side, 220, 222, 225 and 240:
225MHz, maybe a couple of MHz higher, but didn't tried. 230 is a no go, whatever I do. Tried max 1.4V IOH. I don't know if I should go higher just with air cooling.Code:Target CPU Frequency 4180MHz / 4218MHz / 4275MHz / 4080MHz

BTW, check this post again in couple of minutes if you want to see BIOS settings I used.
Is anyone here aware of a voltage differential rule for the CPU PLL, similar to the ~0.5v max difference between vtt and vDimm? ...just like to make sure before I run 24/7 with low voltage PLL. Thanks.
I dont think there is any rule, a lot are running CPU PLL at 1.40v-1.60v 24/7.
Dom...thank u for ur settingsl I dont see settings below in 901 BIOS: C1 Auto Demotion and C3 Auto Demotion
Will give some of ur settings a go see what I can do. Ur RAM settings as u scale up is very interesting. Any tips on where I can find out the settings for my 12GB of CMT6GX3M3A2000C8. I know running it at 2000 is almost impossible but if I can hit between 1800 to 1900 I will be really happy. Cooling wise I usually set the vcore to 1.35 - noticed that auto for vcore ramps up the voltage to 1.4 everytime. Ur vcore goes above 1.35 to 1.36...while I am using WCing for the 980x kind of hesitant about going above 1.35 even with decent enough temps and good head room if I need it.
There is no rule similar to that one, but there is a absolute minimum setting of 1.65V CPU PLL for Bloomfields only.
You can check two tables here: Intel Core i7 980X - guide to optimal cpu vtt & vdimm voltages Uncore to Memory frequency ratios.
I suppose that is why they tend to loose stability if you lower it too much.
Those setings and couple of others you probably didn't noticed are there from BIOS 0009, right after 0901. IMO, best so far are 9124, 0009 and 0011.
RAM settings could stay the same at the last settings also, if I raised VTT (QPI/DRAM) a little and used 16x multi instead od 15x for UnCore.
Try finding some settings in this thread: Corsair Dominator TR3X6G1600C7D Testing. It is not the same, but it is the same, if you know what I mean. ;) Check out this too: >12GB and higher club
I use more then that for vCore and I might even use more then 1.4V for 24/7 settings, when these hot summer days pass, but I'm a little hesitant about more then 1.4V VTT for 24/7 settings.
has anybody's sensor chip gone AWOL after a while? been running linx runs at 4.2 and when i come back (after 100 runs) the sensor chip is completely disabled, everest can't read mobo temps, everest/cpu-z can't read voltages, and the multi seems to be stuck on max (i usually have c1e and c-states enabled, so that it downclocks). could be that my voltages are right on the edge of stability (running at 1.337 50% LLC VCore/1.30 QPI/DRAM/1.45 PLL). only started happening yesterday.
well it comes back after a reboot, so far it's done it twice. lowered the speed to 4.13 now (which is my planned 24/7 anyway), will see if it happens again. if it doesn't happen at this speed i'm gonna think the o/c was slightly unstable...i've had plenty of o/cs fail on obscure stuff...like a prime/linx stable o/c that would crash to desktop sometimes playing WMVs. i just thought it was WMV being crap, turns out it was the o/c b/c when i turned it down 50mhz it went away.
i dunno, i kinda think the system should pass 100 runs of linx, i mean, it will do that at stock no problem. ppl have different ideas of what constitutes a stable o/c, i'd like it to be able to do everything it can at stock. if it can run linx 24/7 for a week at stock, i'd like it to be able to do that o/c'd as well (not that i plan to do either lol).
hum it did happen again even at 4.13.
I remember when I was obsessed with stability. It was a long time ago. Then I found it was pointless. It wastes electricity and hammers your hardware, and still can mean instability under certain circumstances. So the minimum agreed passes for whatever test is in fashion, followed by some memory diagnostics followed by heavy gaming is what I use now.
Save some time, electricity and longevity of hardware and enjoy it :)
+100
I just recently gave up on long blend and linx runs to test stability. Feel like a large weight has been lifted off my shoulders. If it plays BC2 and doesnt screw up in my every day use its stable enough for me. Worse case is it could freeze up or maybe bsod....So What!!! How many bsod's and lock ups did we get trying to get it to pass long stress tests? More than I can count.
Just got home and look what the mailman left next to the door :)

Thanks :) I think OCing is prone to those with a smidge of OCD so I find these things need to be said occasionally LOL
Completely right. I borked a release Q6600 going for 4Ghz 8 hours Prime stable. I got it, but after time the chip eventually wouldnt OC for shiz. Eventually sold it to Zsamz and he could only get it stable at 2Ghz and gave it to a family member LOL. That is when I officially didnt care about stressing hard.
I, at first, was
Then I saw the JK
Sweet block man, I cant wait to see what kind of performance I get out of my acetal version. Hope you enjoy!!!
hmm do anybody know what the 0x0d1 BSoD references to? I'm 25x LinX and Prime 12h Small fft stable, so i don't get it, from my point of view it could reference to too less v-core? Forgot to mention that i get this BsoD while playing AvP DX11, GraphicsCard is atm not Oced.
Quick question, the sli bridges for the R3E are universal right? Like you can use them with other mobos and vice versa? Just wanted to double check but I don't see any problem...
I like the classified tri sli bridge better that's why ;)
has someone this bios 1004??
http://www.ocxtreme.org/opb/rampage3...80gtxnophy.png
i dont like the 00xx bioses
hmm warning for some ppl
i tested two r3e's bought one from malaysia and another from singapore
my gt 2k c7's run at 1.6v confirmed with dfi and evga
plugged in to R3e's.. it ran at 1.58ishv bios set
i was like eh...
plugged in the dmm..
the rams voltage overvolts by 0.02v which now makes sense why its yellowed above 1.6v in bios
tested with qpi llc enabled ( will check later whether did this cause the overvolt)
tested again for vtt.. it overvolts by 0.019v almost similar.
tested on cpu vcore.. its exact.. quite close to the bios set the load and idle.. so screw the probe reading.
aka 1.3v set 100% load line.. idle read 1.294v.. load read 1.306v
tested on ioh,ich... it undervolts by 0.008v
so have fun ppl.
Thanks!
I tested mine the first day I bought it and it overvolts everything by .010-.015V.
I guess it's OK when you know it.
It would be nice to have some table in BIOS, so we can offset every voltage after DMM measurement and make it same when set, read and measure.
Did you take the VDIMM measurement at the DIMM socket under full load? IF you did, fair enough it's a slight overvolt. If not, measure VDD at one of the pins in the socket near the top side of the board (furthest away from the FETs) and monitor what the voltage is under full load.
Hi people..
So far loving this board.. gives me alot more stability then classy or either rampage 2..
well, for me at least..
Will post some screenies soon. Having 1 weird problem tho, everest, linx and windows all read either 2g, 4 or 6.. every time i reboot i get something else..
Have taken them out an replaced, also rebooted with just 1 module and tested them seperately.. they are fine as far as i can tell atm.. anyone had this prob ?
I think i fixed it.. raised qpi/dram a few notches, now it shows 6gigs again.
gonna boot a few times to see if its ok.
*Nope not fixed :/
Ok something def got burned just now ! i can smell it >_<
shoot some pics
Just noticed the temps on north and south.. earlier 56 degrees and now 76.. hardly done any increasement in speed !
puzzles me, then again alot puzzles me \0/
Edit: Did a reboot, changed absolutely nothing, and now ive got 6 gigs again :/
@AceBaran: Why don't you post BIOS template to get additional advices? :)
BTW, check those temps. If you need to, reinstall heatsink while reapplying thermal paste. Anyway, check it, maybe you moved something out of place while removing/reinstalling memory sticks
so fixed my d1 issue, was just in gaming only stress testing was fine, but installed BIOS 0011, lowered BCLK from 203 to 202 and yeah nearly played through AvP :)
Could not sleep :)
loaded default bios.. and started from scratch
Ram shows correct now.. ive messed it up before i guesse, also unscrewed my cpu waterblock and refitted.. maybe too tight at first lol..

Gotta love bios ver 1011 and Rampage 3 going Straight to nearly 240 Bclk :D on my 980X
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1368763
Edit ! i mean bios 0011 not 1011  sorry
Hi
for a Xeon (E5640) What is the best bios?
878, 0010, 901, other?
thanks ;)
Today tested just bios 0010 for quick and now tested bios 0011 and Gain just almost 4 Bclk :D hahah
Meh....
Yesterday afternoon my R3E BSOD'd with an IRQ not less or equal error and upon reboot has refused to boot ever since with the CPU LED next to the 24pin ATX connector constantly illuminated.
The cpu is known good (980x) and I have also tried 2 920's, 3 different psu's, 4 different ram kits and 4 video cards (all also known good).
Board was run at 4.0 ghz with really low voltages (1.22 QPI, 1.22 Vcore, 1.35 ram 1.18 IOH core)
The IOH and ICH were cooled by 120mm fans always since I first got the board. Their temps both maxed out in the low 50's so it is probably not a cooked IOH / ICH.
Bios at time of failure was 901.
I have tried clear cmos
I have pulled the battery and psu for ages
I have tried both bios 1 and 2
I have tried all the PCIe slots (and disabling the others)
All with the same result: no post
Questions:
Anyone else had this?
If you did have this, did you get the board to boot again?
I cannot see / smell any obvious signs of hardware failure but it looks like it is dead.
1.35 ram???
Yes 1.35v.
The ram is g.skill eco (F3-12800CL7D-4GECO) which is rated at 1.35v.
Has anyone else filled every PCIe slot on their R3E. I have 3 GTX460s, an ioXtreme in the x16 slots and a RAID card in x4 slot. Is it normal for the top PCIe slot to run @ x4 when all slots are loaded?
when you say the cpu is known good, have u tried it in a different mobo since the failure? i've had similar issues twice, first time was a failure on post after reset to defaults, second was a spontaneous reset while in windows. both times i had to RMA to the shop it was bought from, both times they replaced both mobo and cpu. mobos were definitely faulty, not sure whether they just replaced the cpus to be sure (but at £800-900 each i'm pretty sure they didn't do it on a whim).
never got any explanation for the failure, these were both shop-overclocked bundles, but they hadn't done anything too crazy with them (4.2G, 1.35Vcore/QPI). this 3rd bundle has been ok so far, hopefully it stays that way.
I'm lost with all these bios available (901, 0878, 0010, etc ...)
I noticed that in the bios 0010, there are fewer options compared to 0878 for example
which it is advisable to use?
thank you very much
Hi guys, great thread, learnt a lot from it :)
Over the weekend I added a ek-fb re3 waterblock and a Silverstone Strider 1500w psu to my system.
However, I now cannot overclock my system at all, when I change the Ai Overclock Tuner from Auto to Manual and exit the bios, the motherboard gives me the post beep as normal, power to my peripherals (keyboard, mouse etc) but no signal is sent to my monitors.
The only way I can get the motherboard to post properly is to clear the cmos, and everything works correctly at stock settings.
Previously I was running my I7 920 at 4GHz, 1.35V on the Vcore/QPI, 1.2 IOH, never tried anything extreme or out of the ordinary.
CPU is at 35-40oC and NB at 30-35oC, even so I put back the stock heatsink, but the problem remains. :(
The problem occurs on both bios chips (bios1 = 0802, bios2 = 0901), and when I set voltages manually.
Any help or advice would be extremely helpful,
Many thanks,
Rhia
Ok ! Evo can not be trusted !! ok ?
If default setting has no problem, I think you set wrong voltage or other setting.
The 1st, only change Vcore voltage rest of all set default.
If you can not boot, CPU may corrupt.
Uncore block has some damage, it does not accept any BIOS changes.
Sorry for my bad english.
I think 704 is still the king of all bios' :)
Got it up and running finely the Corsair memory 2000MHz anyhow XMP detects it and sets it to the correct specs.
^^1.65 VDimm or 1.65QPI/VTT? What is your QPI set to when you use XMP? I think thats what zsams is referring to.
Thanks for looking out,
qpi 1.25v is it ok or too high?
I forgot to mention this but when I replaced the stock heatsink on the board yesterday I noticed the heatsink totally skips rows of mosfets and the EK block covers them they must not be the important mosfets :p
Am thinking of getting 2 Crucial RealSSD C300 64GB and raiding them in sata3 6.0 is that possible with this board! Or can it only raid in sata 2!
Do you guys know of any settings I need to change (or possibly jumpers) to boot with a PCI video card? I'm setting up for some high PCI-E runs but I can't get it to boot with the 440 FX or whatever the hell it is. The seller confirmed that it worked and it starts, but the board hangs on VGA.
Any suggestions?
running with an old matrox pci vga card my tests right now. there were no special settings required. everything at default boots without any problems.
so yes it should be possible. may be just some sort of incompatibility between the r3e and your card. try another pci vga card ...
Page 100 ! GG
Is it like this: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...es#post4437898
There is picture and explanation. If it's like that, then you are OK.
Hi all, thinking of buying a RE3 when I shortly make the move to socket 1366. If I have EVGA gpu's will there be any performance issues running them on an Asus board? Stupid question I'm sure but I've never really had multiple brands in this area.
No issues, don't worry. :welcome:
:D Yeah, big black ones are chokes and small silver ones are MOSFETS.
Yes! 100 pages! Congratulation to everyone on good advices and experiences shared here!
:ROTF:Crazy man iam feeding Qpi volt on air 1,63v and pci-e at 113Mhz, Bios 1003 to get this http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1373064

You shouldnt need that many volts man, dont kill it!
:D trying Qpi at 1,72v now  still live bclk at 247 and then alot of blue screens
No, it's not, check this out: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...postcount=2355
You don't need to kill it, you can always send it to me, and I'll keep it warm and cozy. :D
