I'm confused on one thing about this northbridge strap business. When you set it on Auto, doesn't it sometimes switch to 400 automatically then?
I was just trying out the board, I run 450x8 or 400x9 depending on which RAM kit is on the rig.
Yes, 1,5Vcore for 3600... this Q6600 is the worst I've had :(
I was hoping to get lower PL
That kind of Volts is totally unnecessary
Hi,
I've had a similar problem too.
It seems this mobo (or more likely a buggy BIOS) doesn't like the strap to be manually selected.
If I leave the strap setting on AUTO and select a memory frequency that uses the 400 strap I don't have any problem though.
When I forced the 400 strap my PC refused to boot.
IMHO the P5Q Deluxe BIOS still has a LOT of room for improvement.
Let's hope the guys at ASUS are working hard...
Replaced my e8200 for a new e8500 since the pricedrop made it worthwhile.
And ofc, overclocking directly.
Now, I spent my whole day, trying to adjust, tweak and get it to run Orthos Blend stable, since it didnt run for a minute. Tried everything I could think of, which my brain did well indeed. This forum was great help btw ;)
However, I finnaly nailed the issue,
its fsb/ram instability.
After a day, and some coffe, some curses, and some more, I tried lower the multipel to 8.5, run 500fsb and performance level 12, and then it went trough and did run blend.
Since it worked to run blend, I figure how high I could go? currently 8.5x527fsb and 1.52vcore, I know, its high, but its just testing stuff out.:yepp:
You must have the same memory as me. I have heard a few people hitting 1200 with my kit but I have no divider for my current overclock. I am testing 1133mhz 5-5-5-15 1.94v and PL10 right now. I have my FSB strap on auto, the only strap for 1133mhz is 400 and last time I manually set that it crashed on me.
Timbosan, what memory do you have? I just got my set to pass PL10 at 1133 with SRC and MemOC charger. I am going to step down to PL9 and 8 and if those pass I am going for Moderate twister or Light if moderate fails. I run 2 hour OCCT ram tests because I have no working version of Super PI, I have Vista64 and am having trouble getting it to work.
Hmm, ok. Is there any reliable way for me to eliminate the hardware itself as the cause of my sound issue?
Just change the FSB Term Voltage... and try to find the lowest stable setting besides 1.1...
To gain some ram performance try to set Transaction booster to Manual and go as low as possible... 10 should be doable... also try to play with the Clock twister : Moderate maybe...
For the rest looks fine...
I am using NBv1.26 with 1.94 for my Ram. I am almost done testing PL9 it has made it through 1.5hours of OCCT Ram test so far. Hopefully I only have 2 more of these to run.:)
Edit: @ Leeghoofd, just a hypothetical question here, I am not there yet but which setting would give the best Ram performance PL8/Light or PL9/Moderate??
PL9 just passes. Working on PL8 now:)
Bios 0803 no go x6 multip.. an Bios 1102 can i not run x8 multip..
E8400
but I can run,low-volt in 1102 bios
Not all boards are the same. Did you flash to the 0803? It might have been your flash wasn't the best and you flashing up wrote over what it might have missed with the 0803.
this board has played quite nice with the E8600 I picked up last week

Hi,
New 1103 Bios for P5Q Deluxe on Asus FTP:
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/so...ELUXE-1103.zip
Is the 1103 on their ftp the same 1103 I currently have running on it? I should say had running on my rmaed one..
i dont think its actually possible to be 24/7 stable above 500fsb, and i dont thnk its our CPUs or Mem.
benchmarks show some things get much slower @ 505fsb, and again @ 510, and again @ 515 !!!
i personally think 1:1 is getting messed up -OR- the PCI lock doesnt work.
Never mind I see so it is the part of the bios that detects an issue. After trying there last BIOS I am pretty damn scared to try this one considering it is the part of the BIOS that's saves everything when somthing goes wrong.
What is the Secret to get the board to reboot to a non-overclock so you can change things when you get a bit overzeolous with the speeds? I thought it was just shut it off/on but that is not working well for me. Last night it took over 30 restarts to get into the bios.
There's a 1003 bios for P5Q-E on the ASUS FTP site too. Is it a step down from the 1101 beta bios you posted earlier?
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/so...-ASUS-1003.zip
I usually turn PSU switch off. When mobo has lost all power I can turn it on and it always boots fine :)
Flashed my board with 1103. Everest results looks same than with 1102. No problems booting with my usual settings. Will run some prime etc to make sure everything is still working properly. So far no problems with 1103.
BIOS 1103  i can run multip.. x6  all voltset on auto 500x6 E8400

is SB volt set new?
an i got all multip..x6/..... :) in bios 1103
it will not read xp in at 600x6 FSB some ideas,to volt set
Leeghoofd
Thanks for helping:)
I have stable OCCT tests on FSB Termination Voltage: 1.1. Do you think i'm still need to overvolt it to something 1.1.....?
Also i put CPU GTL Voltage Reference (1/3) on 0.67 . Is it normal for 45nm cpu?
I did some google search about GTL voltages, but not really understand what is the best for 45nm cpu.
What is the max Vtt i can put for my e6750?
to 3.6ghz i need 1.26v.
thanks
How is BIOS 1103 doing for you guys?
To everyone who commented: I will investigate the voltages tomorrow, thanks for the comments. This E8400 even on the 680i i had, needed 1,42v (real) to be stable at this speed. I know it's a bit too much and the problem might be something else, but if i lower the voltage any further, the system just crashes after a few minutes Prime95.
Anyway and even if i'm fully watercooled, i'll try to lower them tomorrow as i said, bit tired today.
NBF, I'm trying your settings with my Q6600 (G0) and P5Q-E (1101 beta bios). I found I couldn't boot into Vista 64 without keeping VCore and NBCore close to 1.50 V like you. However my system isn't Prime95 stable, keeps freezing after a couple minutes, so I'm progressively dialing down my FSB frequency. I'm down to 494x7 right now, but my temps are hovering around 71-72°C. I think that's the max recommended temp for my chip according to Intel. Should I be worried at all?
This chips are pretty hard to clock fsb and they are not equal, some will do higher. I think you may be close to stable now.
Trust RealTemp, it's a very well made software, it's as close as a software can get from the real temperature. I personally don't worry with anything below 70°C Prime full load.
Thanks, RealTemp does seem like a great program so I'll make the switch over to that. I feel better seeing temps around 66-67°C, just makes me "feel" safer. :) I think my Q6600 can do 490x7 but I gave up on testing. Instead I wanted to try 444x8 so I could run my ram at its rated DDR2-1066 speeds (it was at DDR2-980 at 490x7). I changed all voltages to auto except VDimm=2.0V and NBCore=1.5V. So now my VCore is 1.44V on auto, makes me feel safer cause 1.50V for VCore was scaring me a little...
Leeghoofd, I couldn't get PL8 to pass. I got PL9 to pass but not on moderate, got it set to light now. Think I might bump up my voltage a bit more, is that safe? My sticks are rated at 1.8-1.9v and I am on 1.94(2.02v in reality) now. Would it be safe for my to bump it up 1.96-1.98? Thanks
Wich FSB/RAm are you doing mate... I've read on several forums 65nm quads behave different and some settings absolutely do not work as with 45nm CPU's....

425/566 for a 3:4 divider. I have increased my Ram voltage to 1.96 and PL8/Moderate passed memtest so now I am running a 2 hour OCCT Ram test. Looks like I can increase the voltage on this ram up to 2.0v in the bios and still be safe. Is PL8/Moderate a good goal for me? I am running SRC: Enabled, MemOC Charger: Enabled
edit: If PL8/moderate passes then I might be able to up the voltage a bit more to maybe 1.98v and get PL8/Strong to pass, or maybe PL7/Moderate if possible. I think I really like this stuff, I am not done with testing yet but my goal is to push it as hard as it will go at 1133mhz and under 2.0v
I flashed back to this official one... it boots with lower PL levels now eg at 400FSB/1066 it posts with PL7 set... before it was 10... so the non tweakers will get a bit more...
for 400FSB this is the rundown with Pl at AUTO: 400/800 :13
400/1000 : 10
400/1066 : 7
It passed a 2 hour OCCt test so for me initial stability is there... will test some more FSB/RAM Pl's
If you can enable SRC and Moderate I think you are pretty maxed out... but if you got good ram who knows...
I still use my Gskill PC8000HZ kit for the 1200mhz runs... I need to up NB voltage to 1.28, for the rest it was pretty straightforward... as soon as you want to hit 600FSB/1200ram things got more complicated here...
I would update to at least 0704 bios, I'm on 1103 official right now, build seems about the same as 1102 beta... will have to see what's different or not...
Sweet, I just passed 2 hour OCCT Ram test on PL8/Moderate!!! The only thing is that I flashed 1103 and bumped voltage to 1.96 at the same time so I am not sure which one helped, I think the extra juice did the most help though. Do you use MemOC Charger? I want to tweak a bit more if possible now, do you think I should try for PL7/Moderate or PL8/Strong?
Hi,
-the saved oc prifiles remains after bios update?
-if YES, is it safe to load an oc profile of an older BIOS? Because for example a newer release can have added option or some different setting
Thanks.
i think it depends on the ram (or we can say it is compatiable issue for ram and mb) not the bios, i can run g.kill pi at 1066/1200 pl7 with 1102 stable, might give the new official 1103 a go tomorrow. as i said before, when seeting ram at 1200, system will show 1333 with strap 400.
Seems official...
DO NOT EVER LOAD OC PROFILES FROM AN OLDER BIOS, just a general warning
Yes true, but the bios boots with these now with AUTO selected in the transaction Booster, earlier biosses it set higher (safer) values... this is not necessarily the lowest you can work with....
590x7 bios 1103 :help: why not 600 fsb :fight:
?max PL volt on waterooling ??????
is not the vcore volt/fsb/mem
i got Cellshock PC8000 CL4
where can i find how to measure voltages on this board?
please anyone:confused:
I was just testing some old cpus on this board on Air using TRUE + Delta 220cfm, seems like a good overall clocker board it does like older cpus too :D

Witch extra options did u mean ?
I didnt notice the difference in stability between 1102 and 1103, when using same vDIMM (2,06v. @ 1080MHz 5-5-5-15)... I run Orthos for 2 hours now with same settings as 1102 without problems... Waiting for somebody to measure voltages again...
why all say 1103 is official ? cant find on all asus sites?!
Sorry im using the P5Q-E, when I first got the board a couple of weeks back, it had bios 06xx on it, I flashed to 08xx straight away before installing anything, however when I had my overclock nice and stable and set up I saved it to profile 1, the other day 1003 was released and I flashed to that, re-entered the bios and tried loading OC prolie 1, saved and exited, re-entered the bios again to make sure everything had loaded OK, and quite simply, nothing had changed, just had to set the bios up manually again, nothing Major in it at all, just plain and simple, although 1003 rocks, but still has a slight issue with express gate and my usb external HD as did 0803.
#2210
is a beta
If it's on their ftp: ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/so...eluxe-1103.zip
People like to try 'em ;)
Official or otherwise.
Heh, i just updated from 0901 to 1103 myself.
Doesn't change what tRD levels i can do.
10x350 2:3 = tRD 6 + pull-ins
9x389 3:4 = tRD 7 + pull-ins
8x438 5:6 = tRD 8 + pull-ins
Everest read is a bit better with 1103, but thus far Write, Copy, & Latency are worse.
Not really impressed; i may go back to 0901.
It looks like my P5Q-Deluxe arrived DOA... :(:(:(
Is there any significant VTT/PLL overvolt?
Hi Guys!
I flashed the 1004 BIOS for P5Q. After that I got blue screens at start up, or the error message "explorer.exe stopped worinkg". I set the important values manually in BIOS, and so the system seems to work fine. I dont read much abuot this build, but I am afraid that something is not correctly set there, I hope I dose not overvolt anything. Has someone got such problems? Or has got anyone voltage measurements with this BIOS?
were you using 1102 before?
Nope he was on 0610... but I sitll don't have aclue why he needed more ram volts than before... I needed a bit more NB voltage from 0901 on, as ram performance was a tad better from there on than earlier versions...
Whenever I enable it it causes system instability, ram won't pass any kind of stress testing. Turn it off and system is back to 100% stability. Even when not overclocking and using the ram's default timings and 2.1v just enabling that causes instability for me. I have yet to find any combination of settings(or bios revision) that allow for stability and that setting enabled. I've even added up to 2.3v and that did nothing to make it stable with Mem OC Charger enabled.
I decided i like 1103 better than 0901 now actually.
I can somehow hit a slightly higher stable CPU speed & RAM speed with the exact same settings as 0901 :)
My board came with 0605? Does that mean it was a kind of early one? I still haven't figured out if it's defective >.<
I'm using 0704 right now
http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...titled-1-5.jpg
Here is mine so far with Scythe Ninja and 2.02v memory.
with BIOS 1102 and 1103 when I load setup defaults the computer does not post. I have to use the CMOS jumper. Does anyone else have the same problem?
Somebody knows where to find the audio drivers (for AD2000B)?
Are they present ONLY on Asus website? SoundMax? These are a little 'dated ... compared to generic realtek drivers that come 2 or 3 times a month.
I tried to look for driver on www.analog.com but here I found nothing.
Thanks! Cloud.
didn't have that with neither bios... maybe result of a bad flash... try popping the battery for a few minutes then put it back, boot with one dimm... then enter bios and set correct voltages for ya ram as starter...
Do you have sound related problems ?
With 1103 I just got my ram to pass PL8/Strong 1.96v, 1133mhz, SRC Enabled, MemOC Charger Enabled, 5-5-5-15 Trfc 55 !!! Tested PL7/Moderate and it failed, if I can hit PL7 it will be on lighest or light. If I did get PL7 to pass on lightest would that be much of a performance increase over PL8/Strong???
No, I must install all software and drivers.
I ask this to install the latest driver available and on Asus web site SoundMax version is of May (first release i think for ad2000b).
I would know if I must wait on Asus web site for new audio drivers update for ADI codecs or if there are newer release from the producer (like it happens with Realtek codecs...).
:)
Looks official now. It showed up on the main download page.

Hi, need help with some tensions, I´d like to know max V I can use safely with Q6600 about:
CPU Voltage: Maybe 1.45?
CPU PLL Voltage: 1.6 ?
FSB Termination Voltage: 1.5 ?
Well like I doubt about NB, maybe 1.4 ?
Thanks a lot!
After a few trial-and-error runs, i came up with this:
- Lowered CPU PLL Voltage from 1,52v to 1,50v
- Lowered FSB Termination Voltage from 1,26v to 1,20v
- Lowered VCORE voltage from 1,43750v to 1,42500v (go easy, these are BIOS values)
- Increased NB voltage from 1,28v to 1,30v
Still stable and a tiny bit cooler on the CPU. Also tightened a bit more the RAM timings and it holds. I'm gonna depurate this a bit more and then post a template/pictures.
I am guessing i can lower the VCORE a bit more because my NB had the voltage too low and crashed when i lowered VCORE? Time and testing will tell :D
