yeah that would be sweet I might get some better ram chuck it in this rig do some damage and use these sticks in my upcoming build GA-MA790FXT-UD5P + AM3 3.0 black when it comes out then I can finnaly get into some amd quad core benching once I get my single stage retuned I want to throw it on my rampage and this E8600 for some action aswell
Could someone help me, i would like to have the dimensions between holes for NB sink? Thanks !
Cheers, that block fits the standard heatpipe assembly. Looking for the dimensions of the holes in the board itself though, not 100% sure if they are the same...
I had an idea a While back to make an Evap for a small single stage unit and make it modular using the fusion block as a reference for the screw holes just mount the evap onto the heatsink assembly and freeze you your entire board just a small single stage perhaps R290 as the gas something cost effective but man you would cool everything on the board but you would have to spend some extra time insulating lol
and loco I know the OP took this whole board appart and replaced with new heatsinks so he would def know I have yet to do so I hate all in one heatpipe design everything should be dedicated thats the best thing about some of DFI's board the come with beast cooling but sometimes the NB cooler isnt even on the board and the keep it simple to upgrade where it matters
Ozzfest, nice vcore - mine will be 1.55+ with LLC for 32M at 5.1G, but still cool probably....high vid A606 was lucky for me on air. Estimating i'll need 597-600x8.5 for 9 minutes. Less with a GTR or GTS kit.
never took the RE heatpipe off since NB temps etc have always been low, but my DFI LTX48 came with a twisted NB heatsink.....and no contact with the heatpipe
so hard to find here now, a shame for this board really, and my 32M....:yepp:
A big part of my voltage issue is more so heat I can tell there is too much static migration at 1.48 volts, too much voltage makes everything unstable because this chip likes to be cool my temps are 60 at idle at like 4.9 or whatever running 1M takes it to like 72 73 now this is all on water tripple rad dedicated to the cpu only using fusion and D5 with modded top temps with TRUE lapped mounted modded and push pull were even worse thats why I got H20. Funny thing is my clocks at 5.0ghz+ were because the wind was blowing toward my window in my room I cracked it open the like 4c drop in ambient helped my ocing with same voltage this chip needs to be cold.
With my single stage hooked up with same voltages I imagine I could get a better validation like 5.2 and run SPI at 5.0 plus I would get some leeway in increasing voltages.
@ cheapseats my NB Idles at like 50 C or something with the air sink and asus fan equiped im thinking of tearing down the board replacing the heatsinks most importanlty the NB temps down
some hot chip Ozz :D
i was lucky with my board cooling, NB load temps all < 40c since around october - keeping the heating off helps aswell but i had to sit in a sleeping bag for 5ghz runs :help:
Its a damn hot chip man but im ok with that because I does pretty good voltages like 4.5 is 24/7 stable at 1.29 its the motherboard im going to work on cooling better that way when I hook up my Single Stage I wont have to worry I can crank the FSB I want to do 32m at 680+ FSB validation at 700 but I think that is really pushing it with X48 I havent heard of any 700FSB validations as of yet
Actually the highest FSB validations I've ever seen for this board was 710FSB...
Right now playing with VID 1.25v E8500 Q831A666 new batch...will try any higher FSB and see...
Yeah I have to agree that X48 is **mn hot chip. With stock heatpipe + Watercool UG (EK-NB-ASUS-HP) temps I got was 55C idle @ 1.64v BIOS
Now with BP BlackFreezer my idle temps still stay below 40C even @1.72v. After finished managing to cool the mosfet down w/ second WC loop will try to get some decent FSB testing~ stay tune~
710 wow well im far behind with my highest being 620 so far but I need to cool the nb a little better and then ill get back to you

but with q9550 the settings are unstable. i need settings for q9550 i don't expert with overclock i've 16 years old. thanks for your help excuse me for my english i'm italian.
hey Gullo92 have you tested both of the ram slots ?.. i've found that the blue ones are wayyy more stabil than the white ones and allow me to push over 650 fsb.. you might wanna try if that helps.. also i've noticed few things that you could try to get your quad core stable.. first your ppl voltage seems pretty high, i use 1.51v or 1.53v. secondly your NB voltage seems too high for only 475fsb maybe something around 1.5v or under that would be better in getting your system stable. and finally put your DRAM Skew Control voltage/DDR3 ChannelA/B Vref on auto settings also fiddling around with the rams Performance level might help. hope this helps
@ Solarfall
Hi Solarfall :) i think the settings Gullo posted yesterday are just rob2k's settings.
Rob gave them a while ago with advice but it's not clear if the advice was followed :D
@ Gullo92
Gullo, i still don't know what happened, but after your PM, i sent you some simple tests to try first for your memory stability/vDIMM, and to find vCore with different multis. Some other general tips as well but it's all i could do with no quad.... i did try :)
can you say if you have tested these, or didn't you receive my PM ?
Also, i thought 450FSB was your highest stable clock. are you ok now at 475FSB using 9770 ? i'm confused :D :yepp:
Ive Found my Gskills like the blue slots im using the 12800 1600mhz 7-7-7-18-1T currently running them at 1666 mhz at 7-7-6-16-1t but I can tell this much its hard to run these stick at latencies below 7 no matter what the speed

wth mu qx9770 thi setting are stable but with my q9550 this settings are unstable) ( i have qx9770 and q9550)
Hey is that your G-Skill is HZ series?
@Gullo92
I'm sorry that I can't help right now becuase my Q9650 just went dead. I think you should try 450 FSB and see if it's stable first, then go up for 475, use relax timing for ram like 8-8-8-24, Transection booster @ 9, and do some more testing like Intel Burn Test and see if you can get the same result in every test. It would take time but just be patient.
These Gskills

lol they would never I think I got them at the wrong time they switched to samsung like less then a month before purchase
Important Note:
If you guys are aiming for a high CPU Clock testing like 4.5Ghz DO NOT USE BIOS 1003.
At first I thought my E8500 has degraded but it wasn't. With 1.35v I can pass 10 loop IBT @600x7.5 without a single problem. But with 1003 BIOS no matter how hard I tweak still a no-go although an increase of vCore might help a bit.
ci2kla, check the vDroop on 1001/1003 - it's almost double earlier BIOS (with LLC off). LLC on seemed ok so it might not be same problem..
btw, i found 1001 is quite nice for clocking D9JNL @ CL8.. not sure how useful that is though ;)
I had the same problem with 1003. Anything over 4.0 Ghz and was not stable, went back to 503 and no problems so far @ 4.3Ghz.
I am using G.Skill and will try those settings 7-6-5-18 1T, we'll see how that goes
i beg to disagree :D you just have to find a sweet spot between NB volts and FSB Termination Voltage.. in this case NB was 1.82v and FSB Termination Voltage was 1.59v.. cpu voltage was 1.92 (i think.. lol i cant remember) swiching to 1001 bios got me 40 more mhz and allowed me to clock higher with 2 cores enable
http://i163.photobucket.com/albums/t...400hwbotWR.jpg
Hey guys, don't want to completely be a nay sayer but 1003 has been ok for me, both with an E8600 & very shortly with a QX9650. If anything, 801 was a real dog here.:( I had to go back to work but in the wee hours of the night before catching a plane early in the morning I slotted in the quad and quickly banged out a few 3D runs just for kicks. I'm sitting here offshore at work with just a few screen shots on my laptop but managed to take FSB up to 485 before having to shut it down, throw some clothes in the bag and go. Can't wait to get home and finish off the session!! I believe I had LLC enabled.
im using 1003 and im running my E8600 @4.5 gigs @ 1.29 volts 24/7 stable I dont know dude I think certain hardware doesnt agree with 1003 but saying that I also up different voltages before touching my Vcore ive found upping the vcore from say 1.3 to 1.36 might get something stable or keep the vcore at 1.30 and up the nb two notches and the pll or vtt and with 1003 it is more picky with things like that
Just got this board, anyone has a template on settings to get 4.0 stable? Will be used for gaming only.
Im using 1003 BIOS and I am running a E8600

Hello to everyone and what a great bunch of techno wizards you all are.
I need help please as I recently got my hands on a pair of DDR3 Dominator TWIN3X2048-1800C7DF 2x1 Gig and would love to know what would the ideal CPU, RAM & NB Bios seetings be for the highest stable clock.
Matching the RAM is an E8600 and a BFG 8500 512 GTS. CPU, NB & GPU are all watercooled on a Zalman XT which sits under a window and gets me great low temps. Will take pictures and post soon.
Much obliged for any help
PS. Didnt get the chance to change my sig. Doing it now.
hi dctokyo :)
unless you want higher memory clocks / memory performance, these board settings for 4x1GB could be ok or as a starting point.
Only tested with 32-bit ;) and 0403 BIOS

hope to be testing same mems myself by this weekend :D unless version number is not for me...;)
Thank you cheapseats..
I too will dedicate a bit of this weekend to testing the Dom C7D CL77720 RAM Ver3.1 & see how we compare.
What do you think about the 1003 Bios for high FSB?
I see you still are on the 0403 1001?
Tata
great ragheb, mine came this afternoon and are also v3.1 :) no chance to test yet but i can see big ICs under the heatspreaders....
only been using 1001 for CL8 on the cellshock kit, but i prefer 0403 for everything else.
will test corsair with 0403 first and see what happens.

last push on timings with the JNL CS3222271:
back to 2x1GB and just scraped a single successful 32M run with 7-7-6-12 timings @ 900mhz.
tRCD and tRP are a real pain with JNL IC, and all timings as tight as possible for clocks.
for same clock in 32M, 7-7-6-12 gave a small (but pleasing) boost over 7-7-7-12, with 7-7-7-14 a touch slower again.
but only talking about 1-3 seconds difference at 4.5ghz :D
max clocks i got for this kit with 32M pass:
7-7-6-12 ___ 900mhz (1800mhz) @ 1.93V
7-7-7-12 ___ 950mhz (1900mhz) @ 1.98V
7-7-7-14 ___ 980mhz (1960mhz) @ 2.04V

I was getting good results with 503. I tried 1003 again tonight and failed IBT before 20 runs. I loaded 1001 and using the same settings passed 15 runs of IBT. I think I am going to stay with 1001 and mess around with 1003 this weekend when I have a bit more time to tweak the nb, pll a notch or two. Mebbe it is just picky with this board.
For 7/24 Use?

i'm at 495fsb with a q9650 but i just can't get the last 5mhz. every time i do, the system locks up and freezes everything. even pressing the reset button will take about 3-5 seconds before it actually restarts. what is causing this type of freeze instability? i'm suspecting it's my memory. i'm writing down my settings right now and i'll post it in a bit

Note: If you want to get 600FSB 4.5Ghz stable with 333 Strap you will need ot adjust CPU Skew to 300~400ps and NB skew to 100ps. At least these settings works for me.
CPU and NB skews are very sensitive so it wasn't hard for me to find the optimal skew settings. i found that delay 200 and delay 100 was the best and anything different than this would either not post higher than 485fsb or crashes right away. i'm pretty sure it's not the skews but i'll try playing with this again. i have not touched my memory settings, so could i get some help on this? i think that's what's limiting the last reach for 500fsb.
Maybe it's a BIOS issue...what version of BIOS you're using?
I've tried using 0901 and 1003 and seems 1003 is slightly better but still freezes.
If you stress it, the freeze will come quicker. The best I've achieved so far was passed 10 loop IBT @ 500FSB but after that it freezed. :p:
i'm on 0901 right now. perhaps i should flash to an earlier bios version? and where are people getting the 1001, and what's the change from 1001 to 1003?
Yeah you can try that but I don't think any version of BIOS will solve this issue ATM...the freeze seems in random unless you run stress test. Maybe you can try 400 Strap, higher VTT, or higher PLL and see if you can get any luck.
1001 is replaced by 1003. So there's no way you can download it unless you ask for people that downloaded it ealier.

Hi Everyone,
All you guys getting 550FSB & higher on the E8600 can you please tell us which batch or FPO# your proc is.
Reason for asking is not all E8600 are created equal and some if us are really struggling getting our overclock to 450 let along 500 & more.
I personally have the Q822A438 which has been extremely disappointing. From scouring on the web it looks like the best batches have the no. Q820A606 or Q822A435.
Thanks to all for contributing.
Q820A593/597/599 are good as well.
Why disappoint? Can you tell me what's wrong with your chip? Even my E8500 VID 1.25 can clock to 600+ FSB I believe yours can do 600 just fine. Just require a bunch of tuning.
Oh by the way, you can try my BIOS setting out and see if it fits you. But what I can tell is every chip is different so things like CPU and NB skew, GTLs you will need to spend time and find the sweet spot of yours
pretty much all E8xxx chips will do 550+fsb on the right boardive had a 84 85 and 86 all which work well over that speed
Thank you ci2kla & Ozzfest05 for the info. I hope I am wrong in my assessment and I will give your setting a go ci2kla and see what happens.
hey ci2kla, i did a quick IBT test on 333strap @ CL8 with tRD9 - also interested to compare everest scores
with your 266strap settings...but i can't get into windows at all on 266strap with CL7/tRD8 at this FSB.
not solved it yet with skews/refs/voltage etc.
5:8/CL7/tRD8 gives ~ 13.3K Read / sub 40ns at 600x7.5, and doesn't cause same problems (just mem instability with cellshocks).
can you confirm CL7/tRD8 on 266/2:3 is ok ? and what is Read and Latency like ?
not much to my settings and i think vNB and vTT might be able to go lower. But only did one IBT run and no orthos test.
Gflop range is quite tight, so maybe ok without too much fiddling.
btw still using cellshock here, not tested my corsair yet....if they're good for 960mhz, will run this again @ CL7/tRD8 :D

Hello ci2kla, ozzfest05 & cheapseats,
Following on the bios settings of ci2kla with his E8500 I have finally managed to crack the 600Mhz with my RAM:). Please see the pictures.
On testing for stability SuperPi & wPrime went well but IBT failed on 1 iteration and I kind off wanted to post and did not want to upset the hardware..only kidding.
Can you guys recommend some specific bios parameters for improving on the stability. i did up the volts slightly from c2ikla recommendation (RAM 2.10) as I am not worried about temps because all is watercooled except for RAM & at full load on wPrime 1024 max CPU was at 40C & RAM temp probe was on 32C.
Thank you again all & mostly ci2kla:up:.
Attachment 95644
Attachment 95645
Attachment 95646
Attachment 95647
i just tried changing the NB and CPU skew to combinations of delay 100, 200, and 300 and it won't boot. it wants exactly 200 CPU and 100 to even boot at 500fsb.
i upped the vtt, pll, and NB voltage and it's not locking anymore. however, core 2 still fails prime after an hour but the other 3 cores were stable for over 7 hours. perhaps if you get lock ups too, try upping some of the voltages
thanks ragheb , you've answered both my questions to ci2kla... though it seems that 266 strap/2:3/tRD8 is relatively inefficient: 333strap/5:8 gives same performance even with CL8/tRD9, but less vNB needed.
At this clock with CL7/tRD8 on 333strap, the Read difference is quite large.
2.1V vDIMM could be enough for that..;)
Glad to be of service cheapseats. Perhaps I have motivated you now to move to the Dominators which for me run incredibly cool at 2.1v.
What you said about the 266 & 333 strap..so do you recommend I change to 333 CL8 & tRD9 instead and save a bit of volts on the NB?
yes, but not CL8: try the 333strap/5:8 with tRD8 and CT moderate, and mems @ CL7 / 960mhz, 1.61V vNB. hopefully you won't need higher vDIMM than 2.1V unless you run tighter timings.
then run everest again.. you should get a nice result :D
it's the same settings i posted earlier but CL7/tRD8 - guess i should get mine going too...
what does the EPU II phase control do? is that best left on auto or should i change it?
It's the Energy saving thingy and I don't think it's directly related to overclocking as you set manually EPU will be automatically disabled.:p:
EDIT: Guys will get to you soon and I'm testing on volts~
@Cheapseats: I think I'm running 266 Strap @600 FSB 4.5Ghz rock stable now (Pass 10 loop IBT) while ram running @ 1800Mhz 7-6-5-18 1T @2v, tRFC 72, tRD 8. CT @ Auto.
Everest memory read only gives 12.7K and with tREF @16383T gives 12.8K IIRC.
http://i317.photobucket.com/albums/m...831A666/11.png
up and running with corsair now - and some gentle testing. first did some quick tests in 86+ at 450fsb/1:2,
and went in low @ 1.90V (set) for rated clocks/timings - turned out to need 1.92V so not bad at all
on 0403 BIOS
900mhz / 7-7-7-20 (subs Auto) @ min 1.92V (set): 3 x 86+ pass ok
900mhz / 7-6-5-15 (subs Auto) @ min 1.92V (set): 3 x 86+ pass ok
900mhz / 7-6-5-15 (tRFC 60) @ min 1.93V (set): 3 x 86+ pass ok
enough testing to confirm 32M stable volts for 900mhz and also GTR IC....
vDIMM 1.93 (set) / vNB 1.48V (set) / normal memory size / no copy waza
http://i447.photobucket.com/albums/q..._76515_32M.jpg
@ci2kla
thanks ci2kla, same sort of Read and Latency as ragheb got - but doesn't really seem worth the extra volts over 563FSB/5:8.
tested 563fsb/tRD8 with (2x1) cellshock and vNB is 1.48V (set) for 50xIBT and 4hours Orthos custom 4096k (cstkl1's test) :yepp:
higher clocks coming soon :D
Sorry guys didn't get back to you ealier. My web access is playing up.
Great results cheapseats and now that you're on the corsairs we can exchange results..
Can you explain a bit the bios settings for 333 strap on a 5:8 ratio? Does it mean I select RAM FSB at 1800 roughly?
Just to show you my latest attempts which admittedly are not 100% stable.
Anyone can figure out what must I do to stabilise the system with volts & mem settings. I am happy with this so long as I get stability.
Sorry the pictures doesn't show it but i am running at CR1..Well actually it is in the Lavalys window.
Cheers...
ragheb, not quite sure what you mean about 5:8 divider, but the easiest thing if you want, is to try my settings
for 563/5:8 from scratch, but use your own vcore, and find minimum working vDIMM using memtest86+ before windows.
it'll be quite easy to work up from this point to 600FSB :) only need to change vNB and vDIMM as you go up..
these are the settings for the 32M i posted @ 563x8 with corsair:
note - only stress tested with my previous cellshock D9JNL @ 7-7-7-14 and x7 cpu multi

Man....I was unable to boot to Windows @600 FSB using CT Moderate...:(
Ram @7-6-5-18 1T 1800Mhz @1.97v tRD 8...
While you guys are having good fun playing around with core 2 duos here are some settings which I finally managed for Q9550 (C1) and the G. Skills 2x2GB:
1. 450 x 8.5 @ 1800 8-8-8-20 PL7
2. 475 x 8.5 @ 1584 7-7-7-18 PL7
I have the old Q9550 (C1) and it requires quite high voltages to run at high fsb's. Anyone with the newer (EO) cpu should achieve the above scores with much lower Vcore and Vtt.
Both cases ran 20 IBT max stress and 9 hr+ Prime Blend stable.
The higher fsb one should only be tried on water cooled systems as core temp peaked to 86C during IBT max stressing.
Oh btw the 450 x 8.5 was tested on both 0501 and 1003 bios.
The 475 x 8.5 tested only on 0501. will check whether it works on 1003 when I have time.
Here is where I am now...Happy with this as it is stable at the limit..:surf:
One more click on SetFSB & SuperPi 32M will crash.
cheapseats & ci2kla, thank you for your help..
Anybody tried some i7 triple channel memory on this board ? like the dominators 2000 cas 7 ?
Hi Neo mike,
I am not sure if you are aware that the triple channel memory requires much lower voltage and based on this the non i7 boards might dangerously oversupply the triple channel DDR3.
Perhaps someone else here on the forum can shed more technical know how than myself.
OK my board went nuts again
I've switched my memory from D9GTS to D9JNL (crucial value stick without heatspreaders)
Try clocking pass 1460Mhz CAS 7-7-7-21 with 1.67v and still freezes in memtest86+. Sometimes there's an wierd error message looks like "Interruption Halt" or something.
OK then I swtiched back my memory to D9GTS and apply the OC profile that I've proved stable, reboot...WTF? No screen displaying? LCD Poster stucked at "CHECKCPU"?....
I've tried 0801 0901 1003 BIOS and of course no luck:rolleyes:
Then I changed the clock skew from 400/200 to 400/normal and it freakin booted to windows, even passed IBT 10 loop like before...clock skew...makes my head skew...
I have personally run i7 memory on my stiker 2 extreme in dual channel with no problems at all, and it overclocked really well, wondering about this board, seems very picky with memory, and im thinking of buy this board.
hi neo mike :)
wondered about the elpida IC myself, as the adata 2133 are rated for ~ 2V, but even if possible with GT or blades, 7-8-7 timings are not the best for RE. The other thing is vNB: to get higher CL7 clocks than good micron can do already, and run minimum tRD, vNB is going through the roof. if you raise tRD then you may as well run CL8, as Read bandwidth will be about the same.
i know it wasn't your question but the crucial kit in your sig looks well suited to RE - from the GTR/GTS timings anyway..
HTH
cheap
Yeah my crucials are nice, they will do 2090mgz cas 8 on my board, but not stable, 2040mgz is best i can do, which is not bad. But im looking for a new board, and im liking this rampage board alot. I would love to try those 2133 adata on my board, but mucho cash.
Hey guys. I just got my REX and did a little fsb testing today. Just stuck with the x6 multi and went for raw fsb.

The video card and PSU is just a spare for testing. While testing I found that at 600fsb I could get windows to quit crashing until I changed my CPU/NB skews to 600/400. After that it was gravy. Seems a little off from what most of you guys are running

Hello cheapseats,
Great setup with your rig & the Corsair RAM. I see you used the 0403 bios for this test..Did you try the 1003? and if so any success?
I am still running my rig at 575FSB x8 at a rock solid 4.6Ghz with the same tight ram settings as published in my previous post.
Also, what prog do you use to display the little blue background window below the Memset one?
hi ragheb, so far i just tested with my old favorite 0403, then to try 0401 as it's reported fastest in 32M. also going to test CL8 on 0403 before i change.
i need to add 0.06V to vDIMM for tRFC 60 @ 950mhz/CL7, so it wasn't a good option for HCI testing :D
other tight subs are also great for maximizing SPi 32M efficiency, but i don't run anything else myself which shows a benefit. memtest stability might be difficult too..
i'm curious what you've got planned now ragheb, as Intel ssd + iram paging looks great for a 32M setup
Everest OSD: go to File>preferences>OSD Items......choose what you want to see from there, then OSD>show OSD panel.
the road to sub 9 minutes 32M: 40mhz+ saved on CPU clock
same OS and tweaks etc - just tighter memory timings
tRFC 56 possible for either kit but don't yet know if minimum for corsair.

9m07.312 / 4973mhz / 585x8.5 / GTR IC

Wow cheapseats. That last test was awesome in terms of the tight timings you are managing with the Corsairs. I see you have upped the voltages on the CPU to 1.528 (what is it in bios?), but what about the rest of the volts settings. surely not as in your 2092 post at 585 FSB!! Also interested to know what your temps are with that voltage on the Noctua..
I will try to replicate your last test but on the 1003 bios to save you time on testing it yourself and obviously if that struggles I will revert to 0403.
I am also trying to learn how I could tweak the SuperPi test using my hardware which I must admit is running at an astonishing HDtach & HDtune results which I will post for kicks soon but my priority now is sub 9 on SuperPi & not 100% sure whether this would need higher FSB or ubberGhz..
Cheers
I had a little fun at a friend's house with his cascade :D:D:D

Can anyone please help of this suspicious degrading issue?
This E8500 can do 442x9.5 4199Mhz @1.25v and pass IBT 10 loops
but at 600x7 @1.25 will cause instant fail....
While I've tested 600x7 @1.25 before and no problems at all...
Seems the board is playing me.
@ragheb
thanks ragheb  it's getting tougher now... higher efficiency = higher CPU load, so to achieve the same 32M time, the minimum vcore to pass @ 4973mhz with GTR timings was the same as 5014mhz using JNL timings (1.53V set / LLC on). With looser timings on the corsair, 32M runs ok @ 5014mhz / 1.53V same as cellshock. i also used PLL+SB1.5 = 1.59, vNB = 1.57, vTT = 1.40, GTL0 = +40, skews auto. all ok to finish 32M, but stability beyond that is untested. To run over 1.53V vcore and avoid failure in the first few loops, a few changes were necessary to PLL, vNB and CPUGTL.
cheap cooling: low ambient (~ 1C) + no case...judged CPU temps for the most recent run with fingers on the heatsink base / heatpipes - not too accurate or reliable, but if it feels cool, then ok for me... ;)
@ci2kla
for this vcore and multi (Edit: 1.25V / 6x) what did you find with PLL / SB1.5 @ 1.51-1.56V (ie below vNB droop) ? cheers:)
