THE GTX260 are but the GTX280 have serious problems overclocking the shaders

and they will be out when?
Tomshardware had something about this hardware coming out on the 15th.
Something new about new NVIDIA Gpus? Two weeks to launch day and absolutely no info about new GPUs. Seems little strange or maybe NVIDIA has canceled it`s 55nm part of GT200?
Silence before the tornado eh ?
Something awesome is coming. It's right before the Christmas shopping season. It is awful quiet. It's almost like a graphics card ambush. They are getting ready to fire out something big. Everybody wire your backside tight and stay alert. We could be hit any minute. :D
How do you know that if there is ANY info about it? I remember before GT200 launch or even before G92 launch there were some leaks about performance (mainly 3D marks but still...)or something else. Now there is completely nothing about it - how many Shaders, what clocks, what price, die size.
Maybe we have this situation because NVIDIAs new 55nm parts will be simply too weak to win battle with ATIs Rv770 series?
PS. I wonder if there will be only GT200B launch or maybe NVIDIA will launch GT206 too (GTX260 successor according ELSA slides) and maybe this GPU will be a worthy successor of G92:)
i hope that the 55nm GT200 launch very soon. i need new hardware :D
Who cares about HD4870x2?:D
Could you tell me only one thing? - Will i see a worthy competitor to HD4870? Faster than the current GTX260 (and faster HD4870) and cheaper than it? I`m completely not interested on GX2 or X2 solutions. I would like to see a single GPU from NVIDIA which will win performance/ratio fight against HD4870. The second GF8800GT:)
I hope NVIDIA isn`t going to release another Extreme Highend GPU to beat HD4870X2 only:(
strikes me as odd that the first place i would see a new card is on a e-tailer. But GTX 350?
So we are talking not only 55nm but a GX2 monster. I'm still skeptical. I'd definitely have to upgrade my power supply and that would hurt. Also no practical water cooling since the GX2 water blocks cost half the MSRP of the cards. Although the X2 cards are also expensive to water cool. But there is at least some alternative with dual discrete blocks. Not so with the back-to-back GX2 layout. What would be great is if Nvidia could switch to a dual GPU single PCB solution like AMD.
I think its the big bang drivers coming, not a new gpu.
lol Big bang drivers. Those drivers will probably make your DDR3 transform into DDR5. Maybe some voodoo magic in it and the GPU duplicates itself... :ROTF:
That would not be great. Most nVidia users are using nVidia cards because they want the performance all on one GPU. Right now nVidia has the best single GPU solution out there. I wouldn't see any reason at all for them to go to that double cheesburger arrangement again. I will never buy a dual GPU card. Not ever. It was a mistake going down that road to begin with.
That is an actual term peiople use for THE driver that is refined and finally makes the cards come alive after a new high perforkance card is released. GTX2xx cards are already showing some substantial gains from drivers. It's a serious matter, and it makes it alot of difference after these drivers are tweaked. No it won't grow new RAM, or a GPU, but it does give better performance.
The only thing that I'm currently aware of is the release of the 180.xx drivers ( in a few days ).
GX2 monster this month ? Nowhere to be seen, and maybe...never in 2008.
I haven't heard any update regarding the "GT200b" ( notice the quotes, they're there for a reason :p: ) recently, and thus I don't expect a launch anytime soon.
Come on nVIDIA, move your butt.
I'd be satisfied with a new beast from AMD.
I just want something better than the GTX 280 and the HD4870X2, be it a Radeon or a GeForce I don't care, I'm just a new hardware excitement whore and I want it now God damn it :D :(
Hmm you are saying you don`t expect that GT200b would be released soon. So what will be released 22 Oct. this year? Some guy on NvNews have said refresh of GT200 will be here 22 Oct.. If it`s not GT200b so what it is supposed to be?
I hope it`s definitely NOT GX2 alike card and at most i would like to see a REAL competitor in performance/price ratio to HD4870 - as i`ve written above "the second GF8800GT":)
I haven't heard of a hardware release for this month ( it's October now, isn't it ? :p: ).
Only thing approaching to my knowledge is software based ( drivers :p: )
This card already exists. It's the GTX 260 216 core.
I got mine from Newegg for 299 bucks with a 20 dollar MIR, and this thing overclocks like a son of a b!tch.
Right now I have it sitting at 700/1509/1250 and at these speeds, it outperforms a stock GTX 280 and obliterates the HD 4870.
With the 180xx drivers come out, the gap between the HD 4870 and the GTX 260 will be increased even further.
You must not be an Nvidia card user, otherwise you would have tried the 178.13/178.15 drivers and seen the very notable increase in performance in a number of games.
If the 180xx continues this trend, then Nvidia will definitely increase the gap between itself and ATI, particularly in the single GPU department.
Hmm i don`t think GTX260 216SP is THIS card what i`m thinking about. OK it`s a little faster than HD4870 but it`s still more expensive than it and - which is important - it uses huge and very expensive to produce 65nm GT200.
IMO GTX260 216SP is much more like 112SP revisions of GF8800GTS about year ago.
So...I`m still waiting for worthy GF8800GT successor;)
 1 series cards :wth:
+1
The latest drivers put me over 15K in vantage for the first time with my Q6600, and single 280.
They are indeed getting faster. I expect good things from Big Bang II.
I also look foward to the 350, or GX2 card. I will be using the 350 for graphics, and current 280 for dedicated PhysX.
Providing we get some new PhysX games, it should make for a decent rig...
How's that competing against the 4870? The 4870 sells for $220! Your card costs $279, which is a 27% higher price. Does it, when overclocked, have 27% more performance compared to an overclocked 4870?
Just curious, was your OC done on the stock heatsink? What volts? It seems like a great OC. I think that you have my 280GTX beat, at least in terms of clock speeds :) (The only reason why I have a 280GTX is because it was free lol)
+1 on the yoda. It's Oct. 22ND not th.
so where the Big Bang II went? haven't heard of it for a while...
The Big Bang 2 will be the new Stickers on your 9x series and with them you'll get new drivers that will rename it to 150 GTX ! That's big bang ... or maybe the big bang was to small we didn't notice it... But we should wait for 22.10 .. i think they will pack everything intro one day :yepp:
you do realize the new cards are a die shrink right? hardly a new sticker on a 9 series card, regardless of what some bullcrap Nvidia bashing site says. I myself am an Nvidia user but I by no means have a problem jumping ship if someone comes up with a better single GPU solution, just saying this before anyone calls fanboy, cause that poor excuse for a comeback word has been used alot lately.
While the GTX 260 216 is slightly more expensive, it also out performs the HD 4870 generally speaking (the lead will increase further when better drivers become available), and has less issues with heat and power usage. Also the extra memory comes in handy as well.
As for my overclock, yeah it was done on stock heatsink, and stock voltage.
I even managed to increase it a bit more. Right now, it's at 740/1485/1300.
I had to lower the shaders a bit, because I had slight artifacting, but I managed to increase the core and memory speed. Actually, I just removed the heatsink and applied some thermal paste to see if I could increase the clockspeed on the shaders, but alas, it didn't have any impact :(
When the 55nm GTX 280 becomes available, I'm going to trade my current model in for it through EVGA's step up program.
Hopefully, the 55nm GTX 200s can hit 800mhz on the core.
Where is the Big Bang ( 180 drivers ) ? The release was set on September ....
Hmm maybe this is what we are waiting for? ;)
http://www.vr-zone.com/articles/Forc...vers/6098.html
But seems there is no info about GT200 refresh parts.
BTW if the above are the real specs of the supposed upcoming card from nVidia, then it would be about 3 times faster than GTX280 on real world performance, as long as it is not bottlenecked by the memory bandwidth (considering that 3360MHz of GDDR5 gives enough headroom, I doubt it would be the case). That would make this beast 2 times as fast as 4870x2 on REAL world performance !!!
That's exactly what makes me disbelieve the rumors, there was never such a jump in performance by either of the companies, even the 8800GTX was far less faster from 7950GX2 than GTX 350 is supposed to be from 4870x2. Technology moves fast, but not THAT fast, even with 55nm you would need a nuclear reactor to power that thing and dry ice to cool it...
Edit: Here's a GTX 350's specs' pic (doctored most probably)
http://videocardz.com/wp-content/upl...0832502638.jpg
also wouldn't those insane specs make it about three times the price as well?
(even if it wasn't it would be sold for that much
The only Pre Big Bang II thing that I can think of is... the celebration of SLI on X58 :p:
No more nFORCE motherboards for me :D Yay!
yes please, I still have my doubts about sli with software doesn't convince me at all, first only 1 pcie is gonna run x16 and the rest x8 instead 3 x16, second I hope nvidia gives full support on this since they still saying "If you want full sli performance nf200 is the way to go" I don't know I still have my doubts you know only time will tell :(
So you agree there's no point in posting it?
How exactly did it lowered the quality of life of XS members so that it would be deemed restricted material? If there is even 1% likelihood for nVidia to bring on the table such a fierce opposition to ATI wouldn't it make sense to post the possibility? Of course having worked with gfx cards the last years would make me believe that it would require a new technique from nVidia to create such a chip, which is quite improbable. Most possibly people here would know of it already, but still only nVidia knows for sure...
It's not like nobody knows what's coming from nV shortly...at this point there's right and there's wrong with very little grey area in between.
What good does posting a FAKE shot do?
Sure, you can post it but it has no use whatsoever. What's worse, some less equiped people will take it as a real thing.
PS.
There's no "1% likelihood" with this shot. Hit the numbers in a calculator and see it for yourself.
There are some names that have slipped out through the drivers of what might be coming, and that's a good sign, but at the samer time it could be cancelled at anytime. nVidia could pull them, they might have something they were concurently working on that turned out and want to offer that instead, or they could decide to update the GPU itslef and make it more than a refresh.
With nVidia one never knows. They are very secretive, and sneaky. Remember the 8800's? That was a shock to everybody. Nobody had a clue that kind of performance boost was gonna come out in one shot.
About the only real hard evidence we have is the drivers that had those numbers. Everything else is just speculative. I haven't seen any proof of the date yet. There's too much contradictory rumors that have been spread about.
Only thing we can do is wait on nVidia to release stuff. There will be no GTX350 anytime soon. That is 4 version numbers ahead going by the numbering system they are using currently...2xx numbers by 20's. It's also a odd number which goes against the even numbering they are using. Even if that number was used it would be at least the end of 2009 or longer and would probably be a completely different card. That ain't happening when a new line of cards has just been released.
bump coz the 22nd is getting near :)
Interesting that AFAIK theres NO pics available of whatever nV have planned (assuming this really is hardware based) yet theres pics ahoy of Nehalem (hardware and results)
doesn't look like anythings coming until 2nd half of next year
I do find that hard to believe.... a full year with no new launch for their top-end? In some senses, they've had no new top-end product since the 9800GX2. nV wont let things be for that long.
Urgh. Damn you're more right than I want you to be.
Situation is different now though- nV were top of the tree for that time. They arent now...
COMMON GTX 290
i really hope i can fit 2x GTX 290 on my 750w PSU cross fingers >.<
hopefully this cost less than the GTX280. :D
You won't see leaks from nVidia. They have alsways been completely silent until *just* before release. It's like one day there's nothing, then BAMMMM! there's a new video card out of the clear blue. It's like "Dang! Where did that come from?" hehe :D
There's always alot of speculation, and sometimes occasionally somebody will accidentally get something right, but it doesn't come from nVidia.
Estimated price anyone?
If it's the same size and layout as the current GTX 280 I might consider it as a Step Up. Figure that way I can keep using the GTX 280 Uni-sink (took me forever to get one of the 1st revision ones, I am NOT giving it up that easy :D)
I've got until December to Step Up I think, so there's no hurry.
Die-shrink from G80-> G92 reduced hole spacing back to the G7 spacing dimensions. I can hope that worst-case scenario means that the new mount spacing for 55nm will be G80 span. I need a better selection of mounting plates for coolers.... :p:
Base on the previews post about the time line we still have 2 to 4 days for the successor but a bit odd that we know so little about this successor when the G200 came out we already know the specification of the architecture 2 weeks in advance, the reviewers who were under NDA was already briefed ahead of time and review samples was send before the released date but maybe they are going for the last minute who knows all we can do is wait.
Yay more false rumors
the twenty first still no news :S?
it's 7 minutes into the 22nd here and still no news lol.
on a serious note though i think that there is no new card based on the lack of evidence other than hearsay. Although I'm completely open to being wrong and in fact hope so
nV NDA usually lifts at 2pm on launch day in the UK, so if something happens on the 22nd, maximum 24 hours to wait :p: Im not sure about Australia obviously...maybe you guys find out and can tell us...14 hours?
To everyone waiting: Sorry.
Please turn your attention to 40nm r800 & gt216
Didnt OBR insist that somthing HUGE is coming this month from NV, of course NDA wouldnt allow more info.
nada
NVIDIA has at least three high-end chips in development right now. You have all heard about the GT206, also known as GT200b in the press. As we predicted back in May, this would be a part of the Fall/Winter refresh and it is due any day now. Specifications are of course sparse but expect a tweaked GT200 core running cooler and faster, it's all good. After GT206, there is a GT212 core on roadmaps. There are rumors that this will be the first NVIDIA chip with GDDR5, but I wouldn't bet on it. It should arrive in Q2 2009.
Considering how much time, money and energy AMD has put into GDDR4 and GDDR5, we just don't see NVIDIA getting its hands on chips anytime soon. Instead we would expect another tweaked GT200 chip, but this is of course mostly speculation at this point. Specifications have been hard to come by.
Sources has informed us of another chips that is in the works. NVIDIA is also working on GT216 which is said to be the first chip to reach the market using TSMC's 40nm process. It will go up against AMD's RV870 chip and should hit the market at about the same time. That time is late Q2 2009, or early Q3. There are rumors that this chip will be DirectX 11 compatible, which would put it even with RV870 in terms of DX support.
Both AMD and NVIDIA is hoping to have taped out each chip before the end of the year, which then correlates with the launch six months later.
This fella usually knows a lot:
http://www.nordichardware.com/news,8261.html
Maybe he meant the "huge thing" coming from Nvidia was drivers aka Big Bang II ? :LOL :)
I can't believe this bull came from this:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/show....php?p=1780581
A refresh of the gtx280.. rofl that doesn't mean a new core does it..
8800GT released a year ago, but yeah, I know exactly what you're saying.
I bought my last PC when Core2Duo came out. Gigabyte DS3, e6300, 850xt, 2GB of RAM... I did upgrade the 850xt to 8800GT and the CPU to Q6600, but everything else is still the same. And by the looks of it, it will be for a while. Crysis works fine maxed at 1680x1050 (no aa though), Far Cry 2 looks to be optimized well and should run maxed at the same resolution. Nothing to bring down my old rig to its knees yet.
bring it nv frikken mega flops.
gt200 mini-me.

in lieu of anything real.
at least ati gits some more revenues...
anyway; its not 22nd in america yet, but is there actually anything expected from NV? '212' or something?
So, today it is 22nd of October and 4870X2 is still the best graphics card in the world.
