I looked around and read reviews and this seems to be the deal with alot of overclocking potential to boot and my 9450 is deffinately a friendly overclocker so, I can't wait to open it up tomorrow. My Gigabyte motherboard that got zapped was holding it back big time.
Does anybody Know if Corsair RAMs with PROMOS chips work good on this board?
I'm planning to get a Dlx today if there are no issues with my RAM kits.
At 400FSB you should be at PL7 not 8, what divider are you using? I've ran 4x1Gigs at 400FSB w/ PL7 on both the 5:4 and 16:12 divider w/o issue and I've used 2 sticks upto 450MHz @ PL7 on the 5:4 divider. The only time I needed a PL8 was when I was runnin 4x1Gigs @ 450MHz on the 5:4 divider but I might have overcome that if I'd run my NBv higher than the 1.26V that I was using at the time. I'm not sure though since I didn't test it.Quote:

try renaming bios to just 0604.ROM or 0803.ROM and see if that works.. for as long as i had my P5K Deluxe, P5K3 Deluxe, Blitz Formula and Extreme all could downgrade bios via ez flash in bios and only thing i can think of is that i always rename my bioses on my USB flash drive so i can read their full name in DOS.Quote:

put in my second stick of dominator and PRIME95 failed first iteration ran SuperPi for a few mins no failure
went back to Prime and at 13 trys and Failed

Are you sure that you're not following the chipset voltages for my Q9450? I don't think I posted them for my Q6600, other than saying they were on their lowest non-auto settings.

Ok this is going to sound extremely noob, but you have to realize that I know of only one person that can build a computer much less anyone that knows what a multiplier or voltage are. You guys are in the top .01% of people in terms of computer knowledge.
With that out of the way, I'm a bit lost as to the steps for overclocking properly, here's what I've deciphered.
1) Increase the FSB and leave the multiplier alone
2) Once the computer fails to boot you then clear the CMOS
--> question is that just done by unplugging the silver circle battery?
3) Then you start to increase the V-core which sounds like the main voltage to the CPU
4) You do this a bit until you get it stable while staying under 1.4v?
5) Once you get to 1.4v you start upping the PPL (I have no idea what this is)
6) If both of those don't work you up the voltage of your ram to like 2.0v
7) Check to make sure your load CPU temp is under 60C?? (I'm at 35C stock with my Thermalright 120X)
So here's my questions
1) When do you change the multiplier? Do you always leave it or mess around to get the highest total CPU speed? The stock settings are 333Mhz FSB with a x9 multiplier. This means I'd have to drop the multiplier to make my ram go fast?
2) How does this relate to pushing your RAM? I have 1066Mhz so that means it should take 533fsb? This is a 1:1 ratio that I want right?
I want to get 4.0ghz (or close) so I was thinking I'd shoot for a 500FSB with x8 and a vCore ~1.4 and ram @ 2.0v

Welcome to xtremesystems. First thing first: you need a very good cooler to clock hight. If you have a 45nm CPU dont go above 1.35 to be on the safe side and 1.45 65nm CPU. PLL is the link between the CPU and the Northbridge but I could be wrons about that one. .Above 400 on the FSB adding some voltage may give you more room to go forward. increase slowly about 20 mhz on the FSB at a time, add voltage as needed and gradually slow down. test with prime for 5 minutes and move forward. most CPU's will do ~3 on stock voltage. All the Core2 based processor I ever worked with did 3.2 on stock stable. I like stability so I leave it at that. I have a Q6600 clocked at 3.2 at 400X8. I lowered the multi to 8 because I wanted to raise my FSB for better memory performance. Keep the ratio of the memory 1:1 to be safe. When you run DDR2 800 and keep it 1:1 you can run the memory in spec until you go over the spec. add vdimm am .01 as needed. do not put more 2.2. on budget ram it will burn. remember to watch the temp and it is not worth stability to run it at break neck speeds unless you want the highest scores and nothing else. def not something u want 24/7 and to be honest overclocking a CPU for 24/7 is not that important for games, id rather oc the gpu ! but always nice to have a 4ghz Wolfie there for 1.3v.
Im getting my p5q Delux monday.. Yay. i will solder VTT, PLL, and watever we CANT see. then il show picks of the voltages put in bios, and recieved in real. cause i dont like clocking Blindly, i know my rampage overvolted like a demon on PLL. so ya :D

Ok CPU-Z keeps changing from an x8 multi to x6 (3.6 to 2.7Ghz) and stays at 2.7 for the most part.

EDIT: I got core temp and I'm at 45 idle and 55C with Prime95 going now. How long should I run it to prove it's stable?
EDIT: Temps up to 60C!, this loose 120eX and weak fan are killing me

Yeah just unzip the .rom to the flash drive. You have to switch your computer off and back on again before going into the BIOS or else it won't see the flash drive.
Is there any Vmods for Deluxe already? :D

I tried this 0901 : overall a small READ and LATENCY improvement , though COPY goes down as noticed already in 803... Only at 500FSB I get about the same results or very close ones to the older biosses...
I'm awaiting pmp official release, this bios seems still a bit buggy... maybe one of the reasons pmp didn't release it at the same time as the P5Q-E bios... I'm flashing back to older version as the BSOD annoyed me BIG TIME plus the lockup in the bios... bummer
I need a bit more NB voltage to get this version stable,... PL levels stay the same to me (this is a quick test so almost all auto besides FSB/RAM speed, PL level manual tested till no post, Vcore 1.35 and NB 1.26 for all runs)

Ya I did follow your instructions, but I thought you said to leave it at AUTO first, so I did. Anyways, I just got a blue screen after 5minutes of P95 so I upped the voltage to 1.35625v and I'm going to try again. Then I'll start at your recommended voltages and try to decrease my vcore and balance these buggers out.Quote:

Thanks so much. I'm going to push it and then try to find the most stable I feel comfortable with and just use it for gaming. I'm probably stil to like 3.6Ghz or so for everyday use.

Leeghoofd, 0901 bios has better read and latency in Everest ... that's good.

As for needing more vNB, did you measure the real vNB using 0901 ? It could have less overvoltage so it needs a little more juice ;)

Well I don't like having lockup in the bios when there's no OC set yet (just ram voltage was set at 2.0 to be sure), could be about the overvoltage mate but my DMM is as dead as a whatever... so I cannot measure it out...Quote:

hey there. I just got my P5Q deluxe yesterday and it's a wonderful board...but I've been having 2 issues:
1: Anything over 110 PCI-E results in the system not posting
2: Sometimes it fails to reboot...it will not post and then I'll have to hard reset...then it will tell me overclocking failed...etc and I have to re-apply my settings. The thing that's odd is that while it's running the system seems to be stable, completed 2 hours of prime95 and tons of gaming...etc
What bios version are you using ? And why do you need PCI-E Freq > 110 ?
I'm using bios 803, and a higher PCI-E freq results in ever so slightly benchmarks. Not something I care about too much but it would be nice if I could go higher. I went up to 120mhz with my P5E, P5K, P5B
I reported this before Gurusan, at first I thought it was my new vidcard limiting the board, tried the 8800GTX and GTX same no boot thing once I start to go past 109 PCI-E Freq...
That no boot is prolly due to a bad setting or a too tight timing...

I'm going to have to switch from 0706 to 0901...i like the look of lower latency, though i wonder how it'll affect my fragile stability with 8 GB...
Personally I'd consider both to be known issues, tho not the latter seems to be less common. I restarted my machine earlier this morning and it reset the BIOS for no reason. It can be a PITA, but it's just a case of entering the BIOS and loading the profile.Quote:

1) I don't think it makes any difference which slots are used (I use the yellow ones myself as they're closer to the CPU).
2) No idea.
3) Each and every chip is different. Tho those voltages don't sound too far off the mark. PLL shouldn't need any more than 1.52-1.54v.
4) DRAM Frequency is the memory ratio.
