    Foxconn X38A SLI & CROSSFIRE

    Foxconn X38A SLI & CROSSFIRE

Like so many mainboard-makers, FOXCONN's COMPUTEX showing includes forthcoming product based on the Intel X38 chipset.

And, also like many rivals, FOXCONN's board, the X38A (pictured below) will be a combo design that's able to accept DDR2 or DDR3 memory.

But the X38A is no me-too mainboard. It will have one claimed stand-out feature - the ability to run multi-GPU configurations from either AMD or NVIDIA.

Better still, the company reckons that buyers won't have to make the tough choice between using NVIDIA SLI or AMD CrossFire, since the board will support both!

FOXCONN says the trick will be in the special drivers its planning to release for SLI and CrossFire.

However, it makes no mention of whether they'll be locked to a particular BIOS string that's unique to its own mainboards.

If it doesn't do that, then the drivers may end up being suitable for use with any and all P35/X38 boards! :-)

    cough, quadro, cough.

if foxconn hacks forceware to enable geforce SLI, a lawsuit is coming their way.

This news piece is pretty old (8th June, 2007) and from the looks of it, Foxconn's board is just like the rest of the X38 boards - only supports Crossfire. At least on Foxconn's site, there is no mention of SLI support and the board's manual only talks about Crossfire.

More like one to clear CMOS and the other is BIOS write protect.

Exactly. Clever wording. "Nvidia dual graphics" is not the same as SLI. Hey it did its job though, this thread got made.

Yea so like I said there is a difference between having 2 Nv cards in there running 2 monitors and have it run SLI

It's not. We've already discussed the X38 SLI matter so many times and never have they ended with X38 having GeForce SLI.
The only thing that stops X38 from having SLI is software though. The hardware has no problem with running SLI.

    This is so cool...

I can get used to Nvidia multi GPU instead of SLi

I would love to support Foxcon with buying this board, but I would miss the high end feeling, like other manufactures produce.

DFI is assebled by Foxconn, could the drivers work on other boards maybe...?

I have that board and nowhere on the box it says something other than crossfire support...

I havent had the time to test it yet, but I dont think it supports SLI.

More pictures of the retail board can be found here:

    nVidia multi GPU != SLI!
That is for Quadro, workstation, which has been working already, even with 975.

Please correct the title. The board does not support SLI.
Also, the colour combination still sucks...

This does not run SLI, my ASUS P5WD2 Premium (Intel 955X chipset) was "supposed" to support SLI, even came with a SLI bridge, but that never happened!
