SRP/MSRP = SUGGESTED price
Not their fault or even AIBs fault that retailers are upping prices... very slight increases at that.

Edit- Comparing Barts to GF104 is ridiculous.
How about comparing it to GTX580... suppose to be $499 and they are at $559-$579.

Can someone translate what this means? Radeon cards are more popular? Or are in just short supply hence the price increases? Nvidia is being more aggressive in their pricing to try and gain market share?

I'm not sure what this information tells us, maybe nothing. :shrug:

This has happened to pretty much all AMD/ATI releases as of late. The 5850 went up in price and stayed at the same price for 6 months. It'll ease when it finds its market price. Nvidia needs to stream line their cards instead of quick launching counter card updates so its prices can chill instead of people waiting to see whats around the corner. Stability is good in a marketplace even if it is just for a few months. My 2 cents.

On second thought, maybe there is something to this after all. At least in Canada. :ROTF:

I don't know if it is because of the Fed's quantitive easing, but if I was to buy that with my swedish money, it's dirt cheap.

Holiday season is nearing so prepare for hardware getting more expensive... thats how it works here in Hungary anyways.

availability doesn't reflect this at all, these things are selling like hot cakes are in stock at every retailer and they try to make as much money as possible with this card (i've been following the stock of the largest retailer in my country and they get ~200-300 new cards every week and almost completely sell them off within a week until they get a new shipment)

i thinkt hat nvidia didn't counteract hard enough and retailers realized that they can charger 20€/$ more without experiencing a significant drop in sales

Same is happening at certain B&M stores in the US, specificly Fry's and Microcenter.

sorry to distort this sensational journalism picture but actually in central EU the 6870 can be had for 209euro right now in a shop near where i live compared to 219euro on release day.

Cheapest 6870 is 195 Euros in Germany (including 19 percent VAT).

I heard a rumour that there is a shortage of a TI (Texas Instrument) component, (DrMOS), this component is that fresh out of the factory that TI do not even have it listed on their books.
I would not be surprised if this is causing a shortage of stock, which in turn is making the prices higher. (And perhaps delaying the 69xx series cards).

Possibly. Or might be affected by the announced delay of all 69xx cards,

I knew this would happen, I thought the 6870 was going to be scalped.

Newegg's prices went up due to that 10% off coupon they had. Even if it was 5-10 dollars more you were still making out on it being cheaper then MSRP. The prices should be normal on newegg in no time. TG always had those prices since release day too. Amazon? Well I never check there for computer parts...

i fail to see the shortage you mention, the cards are selling like hot cakes and retailers are able to keep up with demand right now, i think that 6850 was priced too low and 6870 too high (current european prices actually reflect this) and retailers did adjust to this fact

Really? I was at Microcenter yesterday and they had a bunch of 6870's in stock. After talking with a couple of the employees who I know, they told me that the sales of 6870's has slowed to a crawl since they received a pallet of EVGA GTX 580's the other day. All of which are completely sold out.

I wonder how many cards can fit on a freight pallet. Standard size is 48"x40" with a maximum weight of about 1,600lbs (hehe... ya... stacked 20' high).

My guess is about 200 cards since I recall the max allowable height is about 5'.

I used to do a ton of freight shipping when I managed Oettinger Performance GmbH @ CEC Wheels here in North America. :D



Btw.... I find it odd that the HD6870 is priced on average $100 lower than the older HD5870. @ Fry's you can get the 6870 for $259-$299 while the 5870 runs $339-$399.

you forgot to divide by the "exaggeration ratio", lol

depending if they come from the warehouse or directly from a nvidia distributor, the chances of the pallet being just the gpu is slim.

still the point that 580 stopped the sales of 6800s sounds wrong anyway. both are completely different price segments.

the 6800s were upgrades for 4800/5700 owners,
the 580 is an upgrade for the 200 series owners (460 is still so new i hope no one needed to upgrade after just a few months).

I find it hard to believe that a $500 card is cutting into the sales of $180 and $240 cards.

i think it has to due with how old the cards are

the 460s were just recently dropped in price,
the 6800s and 580s are both brand new, and their price may change alot based on demand and supply. the 460s might have higher demand with lower prices, but supply should be steady enough to prevent massive fluctuation. also if the 460 did go back up, wouldnt nvidia have to admit the price drop was temporary?
