Observations around 5ghz mark:
Internal CPU PLL overvoltage = Enabled (for around 4,9ghz+ oc).
VCCSA, VCCIO, CPU PLL, PCH voltages didnt seem to affect oc.
LLC = Ultra High. Seems to be the optimal setting with manual vcore (to reduce voltage drop under load).
Short/Long Duration power limit didnt seem to affect oc.
EIST, C1E/C3/C6 didnt seem to affect oc.

On VRM frequency:

"Increasing the VRM Frequency setting means the digital VRMs become more responsive to changes in CPU load, so a higher setting will benefit overclocking. The not yet confirmed "Don'ts":
CPU PLL voltage over 1.9v.
Temperatures over 80c.
Increasing the VCCSA voltage.
DRAM voltage over 1.65v.

Really a lot of this is guess work but it's pretty easy to get good clocks compared to my 980X and Rampage board.

I'm looking for a good m-ATX + 2006k, and ASUS P8P67-M PRO looks good to me, but I'm still a P67-noob :stick:.

I guess that OCs pretty much the same as ASUS P8P67 PRO, with same BIOS, and most other stuff would be the same too, anybody got a insight?

I know this isn't OC related, but it is related to the board.

Is anyone else able to get to the Intel Raid Configuration screen in any bios over 0804?

One of the first things I did was update the bios to 1053 and after setting the SATA Mode to RAID in BIOS I could not get to the Intel Raid Controller setup screen (CTRL+I). It would show a blinking cursor where this screen should be for about 5 seconds, and then skip over and continue the boot process. I've Cleared CMOS, pulled the battery, changed the SATA ports that the SSDs are connected to. I downgraded to 1003 and the problem still existed. Downgraded again to 0804 and the Raid Controller Configuration Screen now shows, and I was able to create a Raid-0 no problem.

The Funny Part: After setting up the raid, and all was swell I upgraded again to 1053. To my surprise the Raid Configuration Page Showed up but it said FAILED for the Status and I was able to actually get into the configuration and attempted to remake my raid but it continued to Fail. I cleared CMOS at this point and then the page no longer appeared during boot.

So Now I'm back to 0804 with a working Raid, everything is fine and dandy. Except I am stuck on a older BIOS and I may never have a working Intel Raid beyond this point, and no the Marvel Controller is not an option.

i am using 1053 with a working raid.

This is an Asus p67 Deluxe with a 2600K and Corsair Vengeance PC3-1600mhz, bios 1053, and nothing in the bios looks familiar to me.

Just tried setting the BCLK to 100 and the CPU BY ALL CORES TO 45 and my speed remains @ 3.4ghz?
Also, about Speedstep, Should it be enabled or disabled?

It depends on what your goals are but I can literally do almost nothing and get to 4.8GHZ

AI Overclock Tuner: XMP (This will set Memory Speed/Timings/Voltage)
Ratio: 48x
Everything else I leave alone except for vCore which I set to manual @ 1.375 to start.

I've had to up all the voltages on my board to get it stable at 4.5.

Was a real pain in the ass because my 700W power supply wasn't up to the task and I lost a lot of time to figure that out (was getting hard reboots). Had to switch to an el-cheapo 600W to get stability.
I ended re-installing windows completely and now for some obscure reason my GTX 570 does not seem to crash at stock anymore like it did before the re-install... go figure...

I've seen lotsa reviews and people having to up the voltages, pll, vccsa and vccio (I do). When I tested for stability, disabling PLL overvoltage made my system crash so I guess I have to leave it on.
Seems to me that if you dont up these you have to up more Vcore.


Till now the p8p67 + 2600k has been a bit of a nightmare for me, i'm a noob though :-)

I feel your pain was there couple days ago.

You have to leave TURBO and Speedstep enabled, OC uses Turbo, no Turbo, no OC.

Set your bios as on the screens posted here should get you going (maybe not the 50x multi^^).
Personally I have upped pll, vccsa and vccio to 1.825, 1.1 and 1.1.

Oh and my 700W Thermaltake power supply that was fine with my Q9650 at 4Ghz does not cut it for this new setup (hard lockups/resets).

PS. maybe we should specify if we have D2 stepping or not.

From what I understand they modded the Micro codes in the new bios and a CMOS reset is required, then the saves should work after that. I had the same issue. You can also go to "Advaned" in bios and set your multi there as well. Let us know how you make out.

Since I'm a noob and others will maybe make the same mistake... you need a special version of CPUZ 1.56.2 otherwise the clocks show up all wrong in windows even though you are actually overclocked...

Windows is reporting the speed off the CPU of what it is SUPPOSED to be stock. Download CPU-Z 1.56.2 and at idle you will probably be sitting @ 1.6GHz and then put it under load with intel burn test or prime95 or something and you will see it jump to 4.5.

When you exit you are clicking "Save changes and reset" Just wondering.:) If bios says target speed 4.5 you should be there??

Downloaded CPU-Z 1.562 and it shows the speed @ 1.6ghz but when launching IE it changed to 4.5ghz briefly, so I guess that works. I then disabled Speed step in the bios and CPU-Z continues to report 1.6ghz and it jumps to 4.5 ghz when the PC is used.
Also, system properties with my Q6600 would show my CPU @ the overclocked speed of 3.6ghz...with this 2600K it does not.



Is there a way to have the PC run @ 4.5ghz 24/7?
My temperatures idle right now are 28 - 30 using an Ultra Extreme 120 single fan with the bolt thru KIT REV B.

Anyone else with the P8P67-M Pro? I just got it yesterday, and I don't see anywhere to manually set CPU voltage?!? There are options for DRAM, VCCIO, and PCH, as well as CPU voltage offsets +/-. I also can't change them CPU multiplier if Speedstep is disabled. Whenever i disable Speedstep, Turbo mode is also disabled and then my multiplier option disappears. I really just want to have control of CPU vcore, as the system auto-adjusts it as I bump the multiplier and I'd rather know it won't shoot it to 1.6..

Like this? Your Speed step is still on. The books says it has to be on but I turned it to off and works fine. Turning off under Advanced Options/Cpu Configuration worked for me.

You should see an option "CPU Voltage Offset Mode". Set it to manual and it will give you the option to manually change it.:)

The M board might have at different bios layout. CPU voltage is the CPU voltage offsets. You just offset the stock voltage by how ever much you add in the offset setting. 1.200 + offset of 0.050 = 1.250. If you have the "CPU voltage" mode, then set it to manual.

In terms of oc capability, i'm pretty sure it'll do just at well as Pro.

P8P67 NON-pro only supports CF, and has one x16 slot that runs full-speed. When the second slot is populated for crossfire it goes down to x4 or x1 mode (x4 if no other devices are in use except the two video cards, x1 otherwise) while the main slot goes to x8.

The P8P67 PRO has SLI and CF support with x8/x8 in the two slots for those setups (i.e. the crippled performance of the NON-pro model in CF/dual card config isn't the case on the PRO). Additionally it features an Intel NIC vs. the Realtek one of the NON-pro, and better phase regulation as well as a bunch of other more minor features/niceties of the board.

Definitely go for the Pro if you can... if you NEVER intend to try a multi-card config, the non-pro could be viable, but it is an inferior board.

EDIT: To chip in my experience...

L040B208 batch retail (D2) i7 2600K + Asus P8P67 Pro motherboard

I find the following settings to provide the best stability at any given voltage/OC:

CPU Current Capability: 130%
Load Line Calibration: Ultra High
Phase Control: Extreme
Duty Control: Extreme
Multiplier "By all cores" (this doesn't seem to have any effect on the OC whether it's set to that or "by per core")

I then set my RAM to stock volts/settings and the vCore/multi to what I want and give it a shot...

So far I'm finding I need 1.395v (set in BIOS) with these settings to maintain full stability in games, prime, linxx, and intel burn test... it will pass 25+ runs of max IBT with lower but then crash in a game later with a bluescreen with 1.380 set. I think 4.8ghz is where I'll be nailing things down for a 24/7 OC... temps get too high for my liking if I pop up to 5ghz/1.425v (not stable yet at that point but it boots and can run a little stress testing) on my relatively puny Xigmatek S1283 HSF. I'd give it more effort with a better sink... but for now it'll do as is :).

The PRO would be the perfect P67 board if it had power and reset buttons, but unfortunately you have to shell out an extra $20 for them on the EVO (the only other thing you get is dual-LAN, which at least for me is not that useful).

Thanks, the options are only + or -. BIOS voltage was reading 1.2, so I set +0.150 and it correctly changed to 1.34-1.35. However, when I load IntelBurnTest in windows, CPUID HM, CPU-Z, and Asus software all show it increases to 1.5+.

I tried under CPU Power management, a setting called "Additional Turbo Voltage" and set it to the minimum of 0.004 hoping it would stop over-volting without me telling it to. Unfortunately, this made no difference.

I also cannot disable SpeedStep without losing the ability to change CPU multiplier. :shrug:

I'm not looking to break any records here, but I would like to find the upper limit of the chip @ 1.3ish vcore.

Maybe CPU Voltage = SVID +/- offset volt. Kinda makes sense..
Then dial back offset to 0.0 and just oc. Boot to Windows and see volt in CPU-z (or just in bios). If it goes over your preferred 1.3v, then use negative offset and keep ocing till the limit.

Advanced is where I turn on Turbo and turn off Speed step.

I tried 5Ghz @ 1.375v and it wouldn't boot in to windows. Here is a screen of 4.7 with the same settings that were posted at the beginning of this thread. This is being cooled by a Corsair H50 (which i must say was a breeze to install and keeps this thing cool!)

Anyone else having cold boot issues? I cant seem to fix them, it always double or triple boots or sometimes not at all. And this is stock or OCed doesnt matter. Anything from a cold boot is flips out.

It almost seems as if 1.375 is dead stable for 4.7...however it wont boot into windows @ 4.8 :(

Quick question... I'm loading at about 73-75c with my Xigmatek S1283 with the stock fan. I gather the fan it comes with is pretty bad for cooling (very quiet but something like 52cfm rated). Would getting a Scythe S-Flex SFF21G 120mm fan for it like this: http://www.amazon.com/Scythe-S-FLEX-...dp/B001JKTQM8/ improve the temperatures significantly? From various reviews of a similar sink (CoolerMaster Hyper 212) the better fan makes an ~8c change... would this be reasonable to expect in my situation? Chasis is a CoolerMaster RC690. I had that. Enabled Internal CPU PLL Overvoltage and it booted into Windows (kept having the rotating windows freeze up). Did you try it?

Do you have Internal PLL voltage enabled? I can boot to 4.8 at around 1.3300v, Not stability tested yet and it may require a lot more. Each chip is different.1.375 is not the limit and if you step up the voltage one notch at a time you'll get there. Just watch your temps.

@GoldenTiger I run an el-cheapo Antec 120 fan but it runs @ 1600 Rpm and cools quite nicely. The one that comes with my cooler runs @1400 Rpm and I noticed a difference. Not that noisey either.

I like Arctic Silver ceramic as well but I have some IC diamond on order to test.:)

Yeah, I noticed when removing my i7 920's application that it had really not aged well... any real temperature difference offhand, or is it within 1-2c or so? I'll probably grab an MX-4 tube just for the whole "it doesn't dry out" factor, anyway.

ya i can boot into windows 4.7 @ 1.375v but prime95 makes it BSOD after like 20 seconds lol!

Just noticed something and this has happened a couple of times. In the screens of Bios I posted in post 35. The CPU voltage is set to Auto. I use ASUS OC profile to save my settings and it looks like it's not saving the Cpu voltage but it saves everything else. This happened once before when I got a CPU voltage high warning I went looking and the voltage was at Auto for 5.0 Ghz. 1.550 core voltage. :eek: Maybe just re-check your settings if you have used the OC profile to restore settings.

I don't know an exact number difference because I change too many things at once to have an accurate test.

MX-2/TX-2 can be applied just like AS-5 or ceramique, but TX-4/MX-4 needs to be spread and comes with a plastic tool (tuniq does at least). The trick is to apply lots of downward pressure while spreading otherwise it behaves like silly putty, sliding or rolling up. Once you get the hang of it it's easy and goes on evenly.

I've been running Prime95 and my temperatures are looking good. 1 Core fails within 10 minutes, but I'm working on it.
If I disable Speed Step, my overclock fails within seconds, leaving it on allows me to run Prime95 just fine.
4.8ghz 1.38V and temps don't go past 65c or so, again, this is using my old Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme with a single fan.

A few more questions though...
1: What is the difference between BY ALL CORES and BY PER CORE?
2:What is considered the safe voltage for these new I7 CPU's?
3: I noticed that my RAM runs @ 1:5 666mhz and I could swear I saw it @ 800mhz before....don't know how?
4: Where in the motherboard is the RTC RAM switch?

Yes, you need to stress your CPU to see the overclock - you also need to leave Turbo and SpeedStep on (C1E is on for me, I think that's needed too)

One multiplier for all cores vs letting you set multipliers individually per core.
Also when using one multiplier for all cores, it can be controlled in Windows.

Intel states 1.52v. There's a big discussion on whether this is safe. It sure sounds like A LOT. I wouldnt go over 80c.

This is false: Intel doesn't state the safe voltage at all. 1.52V is just the maximum voltage the new VID encoding can represent. An explanation follows below if you care.

VID is encoded in a byte, whose 8 bits can represent 2^8 = 256 different values. One value (all bits unset) is reserved for a null or invalid voltage. The first of the 255 remaining values decodes to 0.25V. The next 254 5mV increments sum up to an extra 254 * 5 = 1.27V. Therefore, the range of representable (not deemed safe or qualified by Intel in another way) values is 0.25 - 1.52V.

Judging by what i've seen temps wise i'd probably say up to 1.4v is safe for 24/7 ... for a quick bench/overclocking test anything goes really as long as you accept the risks and the temps are under 80-85 ish max ...

I didn't at first and then I did and at least a graphic card issue disappeared... I wonder how many issues it fixed and I might have to recheck all my stability settings because I am under the impression I could also down my volts a little.

Just pulled the trigger on the ASUS P8P67 Deluxe with a 2600K.. I wanted to buy the GIGABYTE GA-P67A-UD5 board but not in stock at MicroCenter.. So I decided Asus never fails me.. Just got done installing H20 on CPU up all night, going to bed have to go back to work Sunday night :(

I was tempted to try not reinstalling, but I did a fresh Win7 HP 64 install anyway as I had found hit-and-miss results through google. It seems it may look to work OK but then have lots of little issues/glitches/inconsistencies that aren't really readily apparrent. So, I'd say reinstall :).

Sbb can you pm me your exact settings in BIOS?? I have pretty similar setup and was wondering if u guys like prime 95 for testing ? Imo its an unlikely event that your system will be pushed that far.. to each his own tho :) Sbb that is impressive oc for that voltage

Not sure why Speed step is causing issues, Here is why I turn it off. It's supossed to reduce clock and core voltages (power saving feature) but when OCing from bios, Core voltage only drops slightly as compared to stock clocks where core voltage really drops.

I, personally, do push my rig that far in some normal apps... prime also helps ensure you have no calculation errors which is important to me, not just avoiding crashes. :)

Do you guys run the hardest test in prime95 or the 2nd strongest to test stability ?

Tried to find out how VRM frequency affects oc.

Starting with VRM freq = Auto.
I went to an oc of 5ghz and with volt where Prime95 would fail after 2-3 tests. (Linx would pass).
Reboot and set VRM=350. Prime95 still failed after 2-3 tests.
Set 400, still fail, 450 still failed.

Am I going about this the wrong way?

I just upgraded from an IP35 PRO and didn't reinstall windows.
Just remove all usb devices from your PC to help the process and put the asus CD in the PC so windows can locate most drivers.

Manually from the CD you may have to run the Bluetooth driver and the intel management software (I did)

You want it to stay at a constant speed? I dont have an asus board but I rather like having mine run at 1.6 when idle. As soon as I open anything intensive mine jumps straight to 5.0 no problems.

Yeah, I gather it works but there's a lot of possible underlying glitches... for some reason my external slim USB DVD burner can't read the DVD that came with the motherboard, either... had to find the drivers on Asus site once I reinstalled Win7 for things like the NIC, using a laptop then putting them on a thumb drive.

Core Voltage - Not recommended too exceed 1.38v, doing so could kill the CPU, we therefor recommend a range of 1.325-1.350v if overclocking.
Memory Voltage - Intel recommend 1.50v plus/minus 5% which means upto 1.58v is the safe recommended limit. In our testing we have found 1.65v has caused no issues.
BCLK Base Clock - This is strictly a NO, anyone using base clock overclocking could/will cause damange to CPU/Mainboard. (Set manually to 100)
PLL Voltage - Do not exceed 1.9v!!



Processor - Basically we recommend customers not to exceed 1.35v to play it safe, all our bundles are set at 1.3250v or lower, any competitors offering bundles above 4.6GHz you should be enquiring as to what voltage they are using as we believe anything over 1.38v will limit CPU lifespan and anything over 1.42v will likely kill the CPU or severely limit its lifespan.

Memory - Intel recommend 1.50v plus/minus 5% which means 1.60v is the ideal safe maximum, but we have found in our testing all 1.65v memory is fine. We have also found most new 1.65v like Corsair XMS3 will run at its rated timings with just 1.50-1.55v which is well within Intel specifications. I was doing something with Winrar and Quickpar and the CPU would jump constantly from 1.6 and it wouldn't stay "maxed" while working

Temperature wise, I'm very happy, Idling @ 34-36 running constantly @ 4.8ghz 1.390 volts

Thanks for the response about the downclocking guys. I was always told with my E8400 to turn Lightspeed/C1E off forever, that it ruined overclocks, and ruined performance. Good to know thats not the case.

I seem to be having trouble overclocking my i7-2600K on an ASUS P8P67 Deluxe. I'm running the 1053 beta bios and I'm confused about the difference between the bios OC Turbo feature and the windows AI Suite II Auto-Tune program. In bios, the oc turbo gives me a turbo overclock of 43x103, but the autotune program only gives me 38x100. It says it will do stability testing but it never reboots my system to try anything higher. I'm a bit confused because 38x100 is stock turbo speeds. Also if my bios is set at 43x103, as soon as I boot cpu-z tells me I'm at max 3.8ghz on load. Does the AI suite override the bios settings? I have the same problem with fan xpert. In bios I have q-fan set on standard for both CPU and chassis fans, but once windows posts and AI suite opens, fan xpert defaults them both to disabled. If I manually change them to standard or silent, the changes don't seem to be saved on next reboot. Also I can't seem to change my turbo multiplier within the turbo EVO app. There's a button for turbo oc and it says to press ok and it will change something in my bios to enable multiplier changes within windows upon reboot. But after rebooting, it still says I need to enable turbo oc.

I'm hoping someone with a similar setup can give me a hand. It certainly seems more difficult than the newegg video on YouTube, where the asus rep just pushed a few buttons and got 48x100 in no time.

My other components are a new cooler master hyper 212+, OCZ modxtreme 700, 2x4gb mushkin silverline ddr3-1333.

I've had a fun time with this board over the weekend. I went into it not knowing near enough about the board and the settings, but I think I've got a handle on it now.

I did not reinstall Windows 7 x64 and haven't had any issues thus far. peripherals are working fine, disk transfer speeds are right on, and I even was able to move my RAID 0 array from a Gigabyte P45 chipset board. Games are running well (Bad Company 2 rocks now, went from minimum fps of 20 to 80, switched from an e8400 @ 4 ghz).

I am on the 1003 UEFI, the one without the Internal PLL Voltage. I plan to install that later today, especially if my current stress test doesn't work out. Currently I am 40 minutes into a prime95 session running a 2600k @ 4.8 ghz, 1.375 vcore (1.384 showing in CPU-Z), HT off for now, and most of the CPU Power Management options set to the Maximum/Extreme settings, but everything else left enabled (Speedstep, C states, etc). It was crashing when I left the CPU power stuff at Auto, but we're looking good now. I am hoping I can drop some vcore now that I have got my power settings dialed in a little better. Temps are hovering around 70C now.

Does anyone have an idea what "Internal PLL Overvoltage" really does? Is it safe to leave it enabled for 24/7 use?

I know there's Intel guys on here...how about commenting on this...

If I'm remembering right, it originally showed up on Intel motherboards to get past the multiplier wall, and then once someone figured out how Intel was enabling it, the other motherboard manufactures added it too.

I know that we'll all be setting our own Vcore manually but what exactly is "Offset" option for Vcore? Is it kind of like auto setting?

My understanding is that it will still behave as if it were set to "Auto," but give the offset amount of voltage as well. So if your default voltage at stock clocks is 1.15V and the offset is +.15V, it will start at 1.3V and still go up from there as your CPU starts using Turbo multipliers. Say your CPU decides to turbo up to 4.5 GHz on an expected core voltage of 1.35V, it will end up getting 1.5V instead.

I have my own question as well. When I OC'd my Q6600 to 3.402 GHz (9x378) I would set my VCore to 1.4075V. While idle it would SpeedStep down to 2.268 GHz (6x378) and 1.1625V. My 2600K is OC'd to 4.8 GHz on 1.376V, but at idle the system speedsteps down to 1.6 GHz and remains at the same voltage. Can this type of behavior be achieved anymore? I guess the offset would be similar but less exact.

Can't comment on the cold boot, but yeah, I can't get AI Suite II installed either. I've tried a few different versions and NONE of the programs install for me. They always crash. It's an issue I've seen a thread for over on HardOCP and also on Asus's website:

Can't comment on the cold boot, but yeah, I can't get AI Suite II installed either. I've tried a few different versions and NONE of the programs install for me. They always crash. It's an issue I've seen a thread for over on HardOCP and also on Asus's website:

I get the cold boot all the time, and I cannot find the damn RTC RAM jumper to do the trick mentioned in the 1st post.

About the Asus installation, try disabling your antiviurs before running the setup. Norton IS wouldn't allow the bluetooth installation to start because sonar was flagging the process as "suspicious"

Temps are hovering around 70C now.

I've been testing mine @ 4.8ghz 1.385V and it has passed the Intel burn test and Prime95 for @ least 30 minutes.

Strange thing is that if I disable speedstep and any other cpu features (c1e, C3...) PC will crash within minutes even with voltage as high as 1.4V. :confused:

I had the Asus Pro for about a day before it died. I wasn't stress testing when it died at these settings.

00124 error ?

Have you tried lowering ram voltages ? My 1.65 kits work fine at 1.6, no cold boot issues no more here...

Currently testing my minuscule overclock (4.3GHz @ 1.21v) with Prime 95. LinX/IBT don't properly stress my CPU, even with the latest Linpack.

When I have had crash/BSOD it has been nothing but 00124 errors... does this mean something I should know about to help me overclock other than "adjust vCore of CPU"?

The Deluxe doesn't have the jumper, it has a reset button on the rear expansion plate, above the audio connections. I stuck a pencil in mine and held it down for 15 seconds (with the battery out) after flashing to the January BIOS.

I'm always getting the same error. Even at idle in windows ( 1600mhz ) it can BSOd on me. This while I can play , stress it all day, rockstable under load.

Really wished Asus could get the voltage corrected when the CPU steps down. Idling at 1600mhz at 1.28Volts is silly. If I select Offset mode the Vcore steps down. Sadly not when entering manually.
I'm suspecting a LLC issue as we had in the early days of Core 2 Duo... or the CPUs internals gets bonkers when high voltages are pumped for low clocks...

I have a question for the deluxe owners.
What shows the post indicator when you are in windows? CPU temp or just a FF?

Anyone with the Deluxe version running SLI. Stole a GTX 580 from my other PC and it doesn't seem to want run 3D mark 11 (pos) with medi-ocre OC's on the cards. System not OC'd. Could be that I cheaped out on a 1000W PSU but it dumps as soon as the graphic test starts. Wondering if anyone else is having issues? Runs fine in the other system.
