Both the SyncMaster 70 Series F2370H and 80 Series F2380MX are Full HD, boast HDMI connectivity, and have a wide viewing angle of 178 degrees.

The F2370H has a Touch of Color design and a glossy black finish, while the F2380MX features a less chic construction that's more practical and offers tilt and 130mm height adjustment.

The F2370H and F2380MX monitors are priced at $352 and $370, respectively.

Aren't PVA's the worst of the three techs, when it comes to response times? I know my current *VA is a blurry lagging whore for fast paced games. That's why I still use this CRT.

I'm not sure how IPS stacks up response wise. I know TN is supposed to be the best in that regard. But I wonder if a 120Hz TN would still drive me crazy with blur and input lag like my *VA does.

Wasn't SED (a now dead tech :() supposed to give us both awesome color and CRT-level response times?

PVA panels historically have high input lag. So, while they can put out a very nice picture, with deeper blacks than most IPS panels, they are generally not good for gaming. It would be nice if that changed and gamers could suddenly have a lot more choices in 8-bit panels.

It's slowly starting to look like I will just have to make do with a 1080p monitor though :(. I just hope they will do an IPS based 120 Hz panel with pretty much no input lag.

Generally speaking, in terms of output quality:
IPS > MVA/PVA > * > TN

MVA/PVA is fine for gaming if it's a decent overdrive panel.

TNs look like garbage. I don't enjoy sitting in front of a 22" monitor on a white screen and have the center look almost white and all the edges look tan. Talk about a narrow practical viewing angle. Geeze.

I like the square rugged luck of the white one. I'm not a fan of the look of the black one.

I personally think the black one looks cool, but like most 'non-professional' monitors, it gotta have a totally garbage plastic stand which will let the screen tilt left and right if you even slightly shake the desk.

Just a pity their stuff isn't very affordable... But everything comes at a price I guess.

It itsn't that bad, the monitor i mentioned sells for ~500€, many think its much, but when you once worked with a decent monitor you can't go back.

More 1080 crap.

On topic: better than TN, hopefully better lag than the previous one,
which was a disaster in that regard (very high lag), but it's priced
unreasonably high: even though the previous was also priced a bit high
so it did not sell well, this is priced even higher, even though 24"+ *VA/
IPS monitors and LCD TVs have been coming down in price in the
meantime... for just a bit more, there are 24-26" IPS monitors, which
may be a bit worse at black levels and contrast, but are much better at
lag.

Cause 1440 is not a step back from 1200... :p:

I have come form a 1600x1200 display to a 1920x1200 display, so i lost nothing, but gained a bit more width.

But of course the guys with a 16:10 2560*1600 display also wouldn't want to make a step back to a 1440 display. :p:

It's an odd aspect ratio and I noticed a lot more of that fisheye effect while gaming when going from a 1680x1050 to a 1920x1080 panel. It also felt like the top of my monitor was missing for the longest time.

I want to move away from a TN panel pretty badly and won't settle for a 16:9. I like the sound of these panels price wise.

for human eye 16:9 is more natural

There are notable exceptions. Samsung's already released c-PVA monitor (I forget the name right now) has almost 0ms of input lag.

and they all look like a joke compared to my friends five year old laptop that got 1400 x 1050. And if you want a better resolution you have to pay a 30 % price premium.

Desktop displays aren't much better. Going from 1680 x 1050 to 1920 x 1080, wtf is the point?

2560 x 1440 is more than welcome, and I wouldn't mind something between this and 1920 x 1080, like 2240 x 1260.

When adopting a new aspect ratio, the number of pixels in either direction shouldn't be reduced.

The monitor I think YukonTrooper is referring to is the Samsung F2380. The bad news is that everything I'm seeing thus for doesn't point to C-PVA being anywhere near zero-input-lag. 8ms like other VA is what I'm seeing.

That said, the Samsung F2380 does look like a damn nice non-gaming monitor.

The response time has nothing to do with input-lag, but rather the responsiveness of the pixels to change states (motion handling AKA blurriness, streaking, etc.). You should never trust a manufacturer's rated response time of actual responsiveness either. Some 8ms VA panels have less blurring than 5ms TN panels, for example. Unfortunately, the F2380 doesn't handle motion the best.

But the point is, no manufacturer seems to think that there's a need for a resolution between 1920 and 2540 on displays larger than 24", regardless of aspect ratio.
To me it's just a too big jump in both resolution and price.

I believe the problem is there are no manufacturers of them. 30" 2560x1600 S-IPS panels are primarily manufactured by LG-Phillips. They also manufacture the only 27" 2560x1440 H-IPS panel, used by Apple and Dell so far. The biggest problem I believe is the tooling required to do 30" panels currently, its far too expensive of an investment and no other manufacturers have the experience with making these types of panels at present.

You're probably right, it definitely would. A 24" TN panel is already very obvious with viewing angle.

When I went from a 24" TN to a 30" S-IPS the difference is night and day, on a 30" IPS the viewing angle problem is non-existent. I can look at it from any angle and the image looks exactly the same. I go back to looking at my old 24" TN and it really hurts my eyes from the horrendous viewing angles it has. Hopefully backlighting can improve TN panels to the point they are feasible for anything above 24"!

cPVA to be more exact, they started promoting their new technology with Samsung F2380 and this models have same purpose. If the users appreciate them, other brands will use cPVA panels with their monitors.

16:10 monitors (especially above 24") will be a niche market in the near future, if u ask me...

I got a 23" xl2370 led backlit. It looks very nice to me. It has strong blacks and colors, while having a really high brightness. The image is phenomanal, The only drawback is the viewing angles and 16x9. Input lag and response are dead on, almost crt. I was really torn, cause it was this or a dell 2408wfp. I actually chose this tn over pva, its that good.

Dont forget the NEC EA231WMi, an e-IPS with a decent enough price tag, and DP connectors as well

I personally cant stand TN panels above 20 inch, the viewing angles piss me off, really
