what's your cooling and temps ?

Why dont we have a 4Ghz STABLE club, instead of a "look I can run some benchmarks @ 4GHZ" club?

isnt the CPU pretty stable wen it can run a chinebench, as far as i know it stresse the cores out 100%.
and how many times are your cores stressed 100% more than 5 min

Computation errors are random... You can run prime or cinebench for hours without errors, but then open up firefox for instance and it crashes.

LOL I can do Cinebench on unstable settings, it's not that hard.

How about a 1 hour OCCT or 6 hour Prime...at least.

I can pass Prime in 4 hours then fail OCCT in 5 minutes, I don't see the point running OCCT for that long.

Which is why I dont like stability tests to start out with. I usually only run OCCT for 45 minutes to confirm in the end....

Is it my fault they buy a mobo which isn't good enough to support their overclock? If it craps out in Prime it will crap out eventually anyway.


How about OCCT 1/2 hour Small FFT? That means at least you are probably stable...

Cooling: Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme, with dual fans (push-pull). no need for super fan, just a 1800rpm fan will do.
temp go about 23-27°C idle and 30-35°C full load. Caseless, ambient temp about 20°C at night and 24°C at noon . Vcore 1,555v from bios ;)

if you can manage under 30°C idle, Phenom II will clocked nicely. it likes cold

well...first of all, I dont like the idea of stressing my PC with OCCT, Prime95 or Orthos. I do only use them to check stability for only 10 or 20 minutes.

IMO, if my PC can run those benchmark and games for at least 3 hours, I call it stable. the definition of stable vary amongst people, right?

Look, all I'm saying is that guys could have a stable overclock of 3.9 Ghz but run all of those benchmarks just fine at 4 or 4.1 Ghz.

I myself never run more than an hour and a half at all anyway.

I have stable 3.9GHz, but i cant run Cinebench at 4GHz :-/...Cinebench is very hard for NB stress

No where in his entire post does it say the word "Stable". 4Ghz, Bench, and Air Cooling is what it says!
So, if you have a Phenom CPU that is Air cooled and have some good bench runs you want to show off, post em'...geez :shakes:

With my X2 unlocked and over:banana::banana::banana::banana:ed @ 3.79 GHz vcore 1.475v (stable OCCT at this settings), my room temp is 26° and when OCCT works, TMPIN1 goes to 57° :( Cooling is : True Black 120 + 2 fans (noctua & antec tricool)

I'm with you Beep.... I've seen too many AMD folks POP their mobos running stress programs for hours on end....

I usually just run Prime or OCCT for an hour and then consider it stable, if I run into problems during everyday use down the road (VERY RARE), I'll just back things down a little... ;)

WSP: Nice results as an X2 man, did you try unlocking it?

Daveburt: try LinX, its great, around 15-20 minutes u are know, if your PC is stable :)

What are you on about? I've always done at least 1 hour OCCT for quick checking followed by 24 hours prime and usually ~11 passes memtest86+ for stability testing. For me, if a machine's not 24-hour prime stable, its not stable in the first place.

'Stress your rig to failing'? If it fails stress-testing, then you need to ease up on your overclock. If it fails (eg. dies) during stress-testing, then you're just being far, far too zealous in your clocking, aren't you..?

i lost my nearly 4.4 valid on my 940 too :(

^^^^ same here, but did get a screen shot before it went...on air 720 be all four cores running...

Any half decent 955BE will run benches at 4GHz but try Prime 95 blend for at least an hour, i bet it will reboot long before.

My precious 550BE on air, stable. I tried unlocking the cores but sadly it did not work, wouldn't boot into Windows at all. I've ran this overclock for two weeks, ran plenty of benchmarks, did 20 tests on IBT and it was all stable.

64 bit booting and loading puts full load on the chip.
the LN2 user saidthe chip putts a out a lot of heat at 4.0ghz to boot to windows they're pot was boiling away lol

I know that AMD chip likes tight timing on RAM better that RAM clockspeed. I wish my RAM go CAS5 :(

cooling was true120 90 degrees turned without mount ,just f1ee weight, not max chip, this one i wanted a sub 17 min sub 4g :)

That's way too many benchmarks for anyone to run just to be on "your list". I'd decide which two benchmarks test heat and stability best and stick with those. I'd suggest Superpi 32M and 3dmark 2006/Vantage, seeing as once a chip goes through those two without locking up, there isn't any real need for Cinebench R10.

the reason I started this thread is to compare an amd chip which running @4ghz on air,and compare with XS members,so that we can learn from each other setups.

You dont need to do all of the benchmark.just one is enough.I choose the benchmark because:
superpi:it's single thread.amd doing worse than intel in this bencmark
3dmark06:simulate gaming performance on dx9
3dmark vantage:simulate gaming performance on dx10
cinebench R10:sim ulate 3d rendering performa.

yes this was the same , 4005 mhz it was running. mounted the true normal now , the memory will fit just near it at bank 3-4. :)

whats so impressive? and yes you're not gona win that fritz benchmark with those amd's but the test is good stress....try it.

Chrono Detector, both your cinebench and 32M results are very bad! Either your NB and/or memory are running at a very low speed or your OS is messed up really bad.

edit: just saw you only have 2 cores running. Still, 32M is way too slow. At 4GHz you should be looking at a little over or even below 17 minutes.

what is your other hardware you use? Mobo, RAM(s), Cooling? and the try 3DMark Vantage once more, this time, without PhysX accelerator, ok?

as for superpi, maybe your RAM speed and timings, also your NB frequency runs at low speed and loose timings. just guessing because you dont provide CPU-Z memory tab

I do envy your Cinebench result though.I'm gonna try x64 OS to catch up with you ;)

Ok, but 15mhz faster and higher speed on about everything :) you should see my 15min air result. :yepp:

I down cored to 1 core got to 4.0ghz temp where 40C and I still got a bsod..... :/ stable 3.8ghz though.

i know what these sticks are capable of, but better at a i7 board thats for sure. cpu was not maxed either but thats not the point here.

With ln2 i only push multi, no realy need for a little memspeed if its not realy helping anyway ;)

Do the compare on ln2 ;) things change bench dependant.

4 gig is to much of a bottleneck to see it.

I think running the ram at high speed only helps in conjunction with high NB speed. (~3GHz)

I just tested 32M at 3.8GHz and 2.6GHz NB with both 1333 6-6-6-18 and 1600 7-7-7-21.

1333 6-6-6-18 came out 5 seconds faster.

Next time i'll try 1600 6-6-6 but i have to put the crucial value in for that (D9JNM)

I'm in vista 64 bit so I need 1.4875 at 3.8ghz and about 1.535 for 3.9ghz.

Heh ask them how many boards they went through to find a good one for a dual 4870x2.cfg.

I know I went through 3 doing some footwork for the event, none would cooperate above 5999 in 4x gpu .cfgs, I know for a fact it wasn't the cpu ;) take a look at this, hmm I wonder what there problem is.

There are 4 problematic chip's, and those same 4 are located in the same exact spots on crosshair III....

No doubt the board is killer on air/phase/DI if lucky.....ln2 brings out the worst in it.

I'm poor, so I can't afford to waste ln2, nor play poker with boards that might work.

and 2 that I didn't send makes 7 ;) + the one I just linked....seems more have isues than not. It's not just a 4870x2 issue.

Bad support on 5 boards but not 2? That makes no sense.

ATI chipset possible but unlikely or giga and other boards would have issues. Bios issue? same bios works on 2 boards but not 5 others, once again makes no sense.

maybe that's why Crosshair III is not too popular?
is that issues only arrives under sub-zero condition?
