Core i7/X58 Overclocking Thread
As the title says post your experiences and recommendations for OC'ing Intel's new high end processors.
Here's mine:
We finally got hold of a CPU cooler (Akasa Nero) with LGA 1366 mounts today, so we put the Ci7 and P6T together. We tried every type of DDR3 we had available but it would only POST with GSkill NQ (Not Quick?).
We didn't like the look of the fan that came with the Nero (0.08W) so I grabbed a YSTech monster (8.52W) that has served me well in the past.
Test Setup:
Core i7 965
ASUS P6T Deluxe
6GB (3x2GB) GSkill NQ DDR3 1066MHz 1.6V
Akasa Nero Socket 1366 Direct contact HPC with 8.52W YSTech fan Thermalright thermal compound (as supplied with TRUE 120)

Cannot post anything in depth for fear of NDAs etc and because rummaging for compatible RAM and dealing with more mundane systems (water cooled Xfire 4870x2s) got in the way.

Anyway, 3.6GHz was pretty much free and 4.2GHz is within reach but this HPC probably wont get much further. We should be getting 1366 brackets for an XPSC Delta next week and hopefully it wont be too long before the TRUE ships with 1366 brackets.
Core i7 920 @ 3,9 GHz (prime95 8-thread stable), air cooling
I have just managed 3,9 GHz with a Core i7 920 ES (3,8 GHz without Turbo, both settings prime95 stable, screenshots below) and Asus P6T Deluxe. 1,35 V Vcore was enough for 3,8 GHz, about 1,41 V for 3,9 GHz. Not bad for basic Bloomfield :-). Other settings:
QPI: 1,4 V
IOH: 1,35 V
ICH: 1,4 V
speedstep, turbo: on (for 3,9 GHz), off (for 3,8 Ghz)
virtualization, C1E: off
spread spectrum: off
skew: auto
memory (qimonda ddr3-1066, cl7, 1,5 V): trichannel, about 1200 MHz, 9-9-9 (8-8-8 was stable tool), 1,64 V, 3N for sure

Core i7 965 XE only 3886 via multiplier :-(

Bloomfields are really hot. Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme is not weak air cooler and the temperatures are high even without overclocking. But I'm not sure about the correctness of RealTemp/CoreTemp numbers....

965 XE (3,2 GHz + Turbo) - 5,530
3DMark Vantage CPU score
QX9770 (3,2 GHz) - 13,290

Btw, we've just improved our record with i920 and air cooling: http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=440058
Core i7 920 @ 4168 MHz  (thx to Intel Turbo tech., of course)
So, all the records http://en.ripping.org/database.php?cpuid=873 are right now in hands of editors of ExtraHardware.cz . I'm looking forward for first tries with LN2. We'll publish more info (BIOS and cooling photos for example) on Monday (after NDA will lift up).
