4GHz is totally possible, but since 3.8GHz is only stable at 1.344v, I don't even want to know what kind of voltage 4.0Gz would require. Cooling is with an ACF7 Pro. Temps are around 40C - 68C after the stress test. Since it's below 70, I don't bother with re-seating the HSF anyway. So first boot, first start, first install, and work right off the bat. I'm sure that with some lappings, some more tweakings, I can get 4.0GHz stable at a reasonable voltage. Still not going to try, though, because the last two Q9450 killed my enthusiasm.

Currently testing E7200 chip with Q751A473 FPO.
This chip has the lowest VID I have seen so far, 0.95V :)
The biggest problem with E7200 chips seem to be the physical size of the die.
The surface area of M0 stepping die is only 82mm˛ because of the fact that there is only 3072KB of L2 cache. The surface area of C0 stepping die is ~ 32% (82mm˛ vs 107mm˛) larger so the heat will transfer better from the die to the heatspreader.
The heatspreader of M0 stepping chips is not glued to the die so it can be removed quite easily. The difference in die temperature (by CoreTemp 0.99...) was nothing less but 18c - 20c lower without the heatspreader.
In both cases Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme (lapped) heatsink was used and the frequency and voltage settings were the same (4GHz, 1.33V).
Using Prime95 with 10K - 14K FFT lenght seem to give the highest die temperature and maximum unstability with M0 stepping chips.

The chip is currently running at 4.2GHz with 1.39V.

Anyone with a 7xxxx-series chip care to run it through the x264 Benchmark HD. We have no data points for these chips to date.
Nice chip, Stilt. :) Mine has a VID of 1.1625v, and it requires exactly .04v more than yours to be stable at 4GHz. 4.2GHz seems to require 1.42v for me, though... and since temps are quite crazy at 1.344v, I am thinking about doing something to the cooling before proceeding to higher clocks.
Oh yeah, and sSpec of E7200 is SLAVN.
Looks like these E7xxx does just as well as the E8xxx at 4Ghz stable. Value for money for those that doesn't need the extra 3MB cache (how many would anyway) :D

I picked this up just for some 45nm action.
I don't have windows installed, but i forgot to reset BIOS, so it booted at 1.050v, 3.16 GHz. What is considered a good overclock on stock vcore with these things?

I hear the new 45nm chips have some stuck DTS on the die. Run the test on realtemp .. as far as I've read, all you have to worry about it is how close it is to TJ Max.

I want to use the E7200 as the base for my home entertainment PC. How will this work with a ASrock Woldale 1333 MB, I know its cheap but thats why I want to use it. Use some Gskill 2*1GB 667 and put it into my old case using the antec PSU, Samsung 250 HD and 8800GT graphics card.
Should cost me $200 for the barebones!
my 4 sticks of mixed ddr667/800 can't hack anything higher. might throw my 2 x 512mb D9 Ballistix in to see the real wall on this chip.Quote:

@ KAGD1, i like how your pumping 1.6v through your NB :eek: i'm assuming you have a fan blowing over it or some type of aftermarket cooling? other than that, nice clocks :up:.

what do you mean by FSB strap? i have a GA-73VM-S2, which is almost the same mobo. the difference is that it doesn't have the DVI and lower onboard sound quality, but in terms of OC'ing ability, it's the same BIOS. by FSB strap, do you mean the BIOS only lets you OC be incriments of 200, 266, and 333mhz fsb options? this isnt the case for my mobo, as it let's you adjust in increments of 1mhz from 100-600mzh.Quote:

Can someone straighten this out? I have been hearing that the temperature sensors on these new 45nm chips are fuggered up, Is this true? Do the same temperature rules apply to these chips (<70 or so), or should I only be worried about the distance to Tjunc. ?

How should I explain this? FSB strap is more like... something that sets the northbridge timings. Different timings result in different overclock achievements. The strap is usually auto-detected on the motherboard as the CPU's default FSB value. On some motherboards where the end-user can determine this value via the BIOS, or the BIOS is advanced enough to automatically switch to another strap level at different clock speeds, it should not be a problem at all. But for motherboards such as those we own, we don't get the choice to determine FSB strap, and the BIOS won't budge that for us either. I have noticed that:Quote:

If you want to do it properly and safely, you are going to have to use the other BSEL mod. And then again, watch out for the temperature and the kind of vCore you'll need.

well, it seems 500x8 was pretty easy to hit. took 45min last night to get some prime stable settings. now im going for 4.2 stable w/ 5ghz suicide superpi run :D

Ok im having a hard time here choosing a new proc. I currently have a E4300@3.0ghz. How would that compare to one of these?? Is it a worthy upgrade or should I go with a cheap quad instead??
I ask this here because I see most of you have quads but are just testing these E7200.
I do mostly gaming and surfing internet. I will be overclocking this to the max it will reach on my system.

I think an e7200 will give better performance for games, i don't think i really have a need for a quad core..
The thing is, i'm not sure i need anything faster than my e4300 yet since everything still runs fine :D
If you compare 3 to 4ghz and the extra 1mb cache , bunle that with less volts to go up as high, I think you lot are in for a treat... it will surely help some in games, if ya other components are up to it...

Would I notice overall system fluidness, with the system upgrade?? Sometimes in my rig I notice a certain choppy ness. It seems to happen whenever my raptor hard drive spins up. Im hoping that the processor upgrade will help fix that. I also will be goin from 2 gigs to 3 gigs in hopes of also fixing that choppy issue.
Please if im goin the wrong way with this supposed upgrade tell me now.

3.9GHz at 411 x 9.5. If you think 200Mhz is worth it, then go for something more expensive, I guess? GA-73PVM-S2 is the same board without HDMI, and with a good $20 off of its price tag. You can get both the board and this CPU for less than $200 plus shipping at Newegg.

I was torn between the quad and the e7200 but I decided to be a budget cpu buyer from now on. I bought my E4300 a year+ ago and it has lasted a long time and I payed no more than $130 for it then.
So I will get this proc then upgrade again around december maybe, but if it proves to be anything like my 4300 then I doubt I will have to till this time next summer.
If you can stand 1.46v 24/7 on this chip then sure, why not?Quote:
