The strap change addition is interesting, but did not get me anywhere.
Plus, I lost my Sound (Old school PCI Creative Soundblaster 5.1), 2 Front USB Ports and my Yukon Gig Port went kaput. Plus, upon a crash, my video drivers (nVidia 94.24 on my 7900GS) reverted back to the default Windows driver and would not let me load new ones due to a conflict. So I Uninstalled, restarted with the F8- Enable VGA Mode option, installed again, and hoped the driver reinstall took.
That's what I get for trying the newest BIOS before it's even ready...0311 is the way to go for me, so I flashed back and all those issues disappeared. I didn't even have to enable/reinstall the items that got conked out before.

That helps, don't want any issues. I'm gonna take bingo's hint and wait until new bios officially released. 311 is great for me anyway. Thanks to everyone who tried it though and reported back, it helps to hear about the issues. It's tempting to flash and see what more I can squeeze out of this setup.

Hey guys I just builded my new system: P5K deluxe/E6420/Mushkin XP2 8500/ I am competely new to intel, what are the basic settings , could any one help me? My cpu-Z reads my Ram wrong: 33-5-5-12: Do i need to do a BIOS update? and what are the steps I should follow?
I have less stability in Bios 0404 than 0311. So i stick with 0311 and wait for 05 series Bioses.

thnx for the replys:), yea i was also thinking , but the model number is still the 8500`s, Oke I reapllied the TIM, now the temps are much lower, and I now know there are 2 temps: Asus probe reads cpu temperature:36 degreece now @ idle , but core temp: gaves 28/29 , and when i look everrest: it gaves both the core temp and the cpu temp, same value like coretemp/asus probe, oke when I am overclocking which temp should i watch not to exceed I remembered that it was said not to exceed 62 degreece, is this the core temp or the cpu temp, any help much appreciated.

Keep it under 65 to play it safe.
About the readings, I don't know, CoreTemp read about 10c higher than the Asus probe, so I'll go with the higher temperature since I don't want to be fool by a low temperature report.

I heard the new steppings are going to improve the OC even more.
Interesting info on that temp. sensor placement. Well at least I know now that as long as the mobo temp is under 60, I'm not going to worry about it. And hopefully these lower temps with the new bios are accurate. :)

I noticed on Asus' site that they listed the 404 (haha ironic name) bios.
Aside from the bios there are a couple chipset driver updates -
- Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager Driver V7.5.0.1017
- Intel ICH9 RAID Driver Disk Version 7.5.0.1017
The drivers have been out there for a while but I haven't updated. Do you folks get your chipset drivers here, at Intel site or elsewhere?

use CPUz program to show you what the PCIe peg link speed is set...you will find that on the "mainboard" tab at the bottom.

Had to boot at lower fsb and change ratio cus of my x6800 fsb wall at 530 but got this at 2.25vdimm
set in bios. Booted at 400fsb and used setfsb.:eek: I wonder what these sticks can do at there rated 2.3v? I would like to try it but my first 2 setts died at 2.3

I can't get into the BIOS.:mad: I'm hitting the Del key during the boot process but I get a 'No keyboard detected' message. That message is correct: none of the keys are detected. My Memtest86+ v1.70 CD in my DVD drive and it loads after the above message. The funny thing is the keyboard works while Memtest86+ is running.
Am I going to have to clear the CMOS? Any ideas?

I have a temperature sensor in the tubing going from the CPU waterblock to the tank and it was below 35c. My MB temp was around 30c. I'm asking myself why isn't the CPU getting cooled down. This only happened when I raised vcore. Putting off the obvious of reinstalling the waterblock and possibly lapping my CPU I decided to see if any of the BIOSs setting affected the CPU temperature. That's when I got into this fix.
I can tell you that PECI disabled raised my cpu temperature around 10c. Also with Transaction Booster enabled I couldn't boot: had to use F1 to get back into the BIOS. Finally I enabled CPU TM Function. That was a bad idea. Leave CPU TM Function disabled.
It looks like I'll need to solve this CPU temperature / vcore issue if I'm going to use higher vcore.
hey eva since your the RAM-expert, and I am really new to Intel just got my rig for 5 days, looking the specs of my ram settings is there any improvement, by upping the FSB and lower the mulitplier , the divider : 16:10 , reason why i stay @ 3ghz range is that i got still the stock cooler, otherwise it will be to hot!, what i got now 382fsb @1222mhz 5-5-5-15 @ 2.3v 4-30-12-4-4, is about the tightest i can get I had @ 1203mhz @ 5-5-5-12 stable tho didnt tweaked the sub timing of it. Could u maybe give me some advice @ what fsb/ timings /speed i could aim for better performance?
mc2k have a go at 7x433FSB 4:5 with ram @541mhz 4-4-4-5/9 3-30-3-3-8 if they can hit those clocks should be nice and fast.. don't be afraid to try 541mhz 5-4-4-9 in order to keep vdimm low and sub timings tight.
Since I can't remember having such a high CPU temperature with a vcore of 1.45v using the 0311 BIOS, I've decided to go back and check it. After I flashed 0311 I reloaded my default settings. When I booted I kept getting the checksum error and to boot with F1 message. I finally manually entered my defaults and now the checksum error is gone.

i dont intend to add any extra fans because i'm building a silent pc. can anyone advise me on whether 400 - 450fsb fully passive nb cooling is safe? :confused: kinda worried because the ultra-120 extreme blows air through and not down at the board. i'm using an antec p180 case with a 75cfm intake, and also another of the same 75cfm fan as exhaust. thanks!
450FSB with NB 1.4v should be fine.. i'd have a fan over passive NB and cpu socket area regardless ;)
as for sub timings i always quote them in order of bios listing from top to bottom ;)

No real cons; It's a great board. The "Heatsink2" isn't attached the best, but it hasn't caused any failures that I (we?) know of, overclocking included. The 0311 bios seems to be the best performance wise still, and it overclocks great even with all 4 DIMMS populated. (see sig) It's got a bios feature (voltage damper) that arguablably negates the need for a VDroop mod, which is a real blessing on an Asus board.Quote:

i'm running raid with 4x80gb drives without issue ichr9 is no faster than ich8 on the 965(commando), so i see no real issues there either.
it appears to be a solid decent board, without frills like the p5b.
I would also like to know what that voltage reference thing is.

For those guys that are dumping the heatpipe assembly when water cooling the NB, what are you guys using as a mosfet block for the area that is connected to the heatpipe assembly? Are you just cutting off the heatpipe? Any way to get another block like the top one to put there?
Is anyone else's motherboard heatsink that located on the top of it, mounted poorly?

I found the solution to my mosfet heatsink issue...throw it away! :rofl:
After 3 hours of burning in at 1.55 volts and 3.8 GHz, that top heatsink was just warm, the top edge of the MB was rather hot, and who knows what that heatpipe thing was doing in regards to cooling that area. After that burn in, I took the heatsink assemblies off. On the mosfets the heatsink tape didnt melt in much at all. Only about 50% of the mosfets made marks on the tape. As the heatsink was doing double duty as an airflow killer while not really helping with cooling, I just took them off and am not going to worry about it too much. If anything, removing them might actually help cooling in my application. I have 2 120mm fans blowing down onto the MB, should be better than with that sort-of heatsink the board comes with out of the box...

Yup, Swiftech's NB block. I like that I was able to use the hardmount kit on this board vs. the spring hook w/RTV Silicone for stability on my old BadAxe board. The hardmount kit is really excellent and solid, I like it. I wasnt really checking temps, just testing whether it was good to see if I would install it for real or return it. So far around that speed and volts I think it's in the high 50's, low 60's with TAT, depending on ambient temperatures and if Orthos is doing a small or large FFT run. I'm still in the process of dialing in a stable max OC with minimum voltages, just got the board in yesterday. A little more on my rig: HEREQuote:

Does anyone else get weird MB temps? All of a sudden, after reading 40-50c all day PC probe jumped to 165c and after a restart the bios it shows -95c. This is at stock speeds and voltages. I shut the computer to see if the heatsinks are burning and they were'nt even warm. When I fired it up again, the MB temp is back to 40c. Weird.
What ever it was a full shut down seemed to clear it while a restart didn't.
any news about 05xx bios?
