If you say so, I bought it right on release, benched it and sold it again before I lost a :banana::banana::banana::banana:load on it, I would prefer to buy a used one again if need be and when the price is right. I sold it for $610 so it's hardly a mistake IMO

Well this CUDA core amount of 1536 still tells very little about actual performance as the architecture is quite a bit different to previously, for sure one core isn't as efficient as it's been previously so that's the question right now, how efficient one cuda core in GK104 is vs the older generation. Furthermore it's interesting how this affects performance per watt in the direction they're heading. I like the idea of lower clocks than previously 900/950MHz or whatever, should give us overclockers more headroom (of course overclockability could still suck but 700MHz would definitely be on the lower side) :P
EDIT: The only thing that really concerns me is the pricing, I'm sure Nvidia initially targeted this GK104 chip as a great bang for buck $299 card but due to the slight delays of their highend chip as well as the very high pricing of AMD's HD7970/7950, this card will most likely end up 50~$100 expensier than original plans. At this point I'd see below $399 as a welcomed suprise...

If I was to compare numbers for highend Radeon versus Geforce cards at the outlet I currently work at, it certainly has worked with the the stupid loudmouth pseudo-enthusiast set. You know the kind that is so sure they know EVERYTHING and preach aloud about their superb parts selection, but yet there they are; paying someone else through the nose to fix some infantile problem for them. Its always about shader numbers with them and they buy alot of high end stock.

Maybe the GK107 videos are not fake, attention to this.

- Name of the card who is not really plausible for an ES. ( easy to change the name in the gpu bios )

I have no particular bias either on hardware, it all boils down to what I need for what I'm willing to spend when I'm ready to buy.
All my htpc's have AMD cards while my gaming and work systems I ended up with Nvidia hardware, that's just the way the cards fell.
As with all hardware, there's always something better around the corner, when I'm ready to buy I'm generally ready to buy without putting too much emphasis on whats around the corner, there's always something. If something that much better comes out it's fairly easy to sell off old hardware on ebay or friends.
That's not necessarily always the case. Even if a competing card is slightly lower performing, if it has a drastically better price/performance ratio the top end hardware could still see a decrease in price so that it doesn't price itself out of the market. Hardware is a classic case of "to each his own", if it suits your needs and is within your budget who's to argue with them.
It wasn't that long ago really that I didn't bat an eye at buying a $600 8800gtx, at the time the performance was well worth it for me. Today it would take a helluva piece of hardware to get me excited enough to pony up $600 bones.
The 8800GTX was definitely a special case. Price vs Performance it was on top of the world even at the $600 price tag--especially when you consider that up until the 8800GT the midrange was pretty horrid during the first year of its lifespan. IMO it was probably the best gpu of the last decade (runner up being the 9800pro 128mb). It actually beat SLi/CF at the time at stock with plenty of room to spare, and is still able to play games (albeit not maxed out any more) over 5 years later. I think the 7970 is at a good price since it offers more performance than the gtx580. However, I wouldn't purchase it because it is not something I need. I buy mid-ranged cards and upgrade when I feel I need more performance. The most expensive card I ever bought was a radeon 9700 pro for $300 and its performance was leaps and bounds above any card I owned prior to its release. It was well worth it.
I am excited for the 7870 and Nvidia's mid-ranged offering. I could see myself purchasing one of these two cards in the future if I decide to move to 2560x1440.
at the same time, the 9700pro ( Maya edition for me ) was a legend.... and still is a legend ...
I have kill 1 9700Pro and 2x 9800 ( no protection on OC at this time, if you was go too high, you was kill them, if you was seen an artefact when benching, the card was dead )

I think NVIDIA put a bunch of disinformation out here very recently as to clocks and prices and such. Not sure what is going on yet. But we hear from China that GPU have been delivered in very small quantities and building should be moving forward very soon. So things are rolling and getting much much closer.
