Default voltages and 65c at load i think. I clocked it myself... never liked that auto clock function... The problem is that the vga froze on the 30th minute of the artifact scanning... maybe I need to raise the voltages a bit.. edit: 2nd try on 847/2036 again default voltages - ran about an hour perfect, but then i forgot i was benching and started an HD video and it bugged and artifacts on the scanner started to appear... I'm gonna try now on crysis and medal of honor airborne to see if its really stable :)

What is your default voltage? Assuming 1.2.

I don't think the 8-pin will help you oc further. We thought for a bit it raised the vdcc but apparently not. But you can mod
your card or buy an adapter

My 620 still didnt come with them so they are sending them to me :D

But as I read I will stick with ATI Tool as Overdrive does not allow more than 900 mem...

edit: oh, and if u dont want to fry your card even if it would fit the 8 pin to the motherboard is a no no...

My default voltages are 1.150v core 2.200v MVDDC and 2.102v MVDDQ
There's 1 problem though... the card is stable in Crysis demo (tested for two hours) but it crashes in the third game test in 3dmark06 which is right after the cpu tests..... if it was unstable shouldn't it crash in the first two tests and not in the beginning of the third ? Plus, everything is perfect when gaming....

Yup, some do. From what I've seen in this thread most have 1.15, some 1.2 and some only 1.0. Generally people have clocked higher with 1.2 (which makes sense of course) but the core oc on these cards seems generally pretty consistent across all models/manufacturers while at the same time however the vddc is not so consistent, which is strange.

Edit: wait I just realized I meant 1.1 not 1.0. Don't think I've seen a 1.0 yet. ATI tool reports same?
Edit2: why do you have your cpu multi at 6? Disable all the power-saving features, which is probably it, at least as a test.

It's 1.1 3D, 1.0 2d.. I'm one of the ones with that. Stress tests out at about 800, 780 if I don't turn the fan speed up from the default speeds that are in the BIOS.

I can have it running at 825 for short periods of time, but it hard locks after only 5-10 minutes of stress testing. Also if I turn up the VDDC to 1.15 or 1.2, it handles better, but heat generation is noticeably higher and ATI Tool doesn't set it properly. Have to re-set the VDDC manually each time I boot, which isn't worth another 25-30 Mhz overclock to me.

1.00v is the 2D voltage. If he runs 3D that will go up to 1.15 or 1.2v

all of those 3dmark runs were done with 874/981 clocks ;) i can run my card at even higher clock but for some reason that dice run i did i could not get the 3dmarks stable at previous clocks that worked (901/1035mhz )

Call me a deserter if you want...

...but I'm switching back to Nvidia. I had too many problems with this card, and I'm getting really obvious artifacts in everything now, OC or not.

I'm getting an EVGA 8800GT, btw.

It's official, the maker of this thread & this guide (I) has sold his 2900 Pro... in favor of either a 3850 Pro or an 8800GT, whatever is better.

Sigh, what a short-lived (and fairly awesome) card. It's a shame.

overclocking 2900 crossfire is easy. Just use Rivatuner 2.05. I thought is was difficult, but it wasn't. In the first try with Rivatuner we could get both card @ 841/952. We used GPU-Z to verify the speeds.
Foxconn has released a special tool for overclocking 2900 in crossfire, called "Quantum Force" or something.
You can get the tool and special bios here.

quantum force, is exactly the same as the guide on nordichardware..

you have to clock card number two first, then number one by move your screen cable between them..

how do you clock crossfire with rivatuner? do i have to move my screen between the cards?

dont wanna do that, cant get it working. have tried many many times now

quantum force overclock utility didn´t really help me too..
i managed to get my cards clocked to 800/900 one single time. disabling crossfire and switching desktop to different monitors really is stupid.
got my hdtv hooked up to the secondary card via hdmi and amd gpu clock tool gave me 1xxx.xx engine and 3.00 memory when i wanted to verify the clocks. didn´t really try to run at those funny clocks ;)
did anyone try the modded bios? do i need the modded bios to get that overclocking tool to work properly? i don´t wanna feed my cards 1.35v with that crappy stock heatsink.

14000 in 3dmark06 isn't that much for a c2d on 4.3ghz and a card on 911/2466

i ran 3dmark06 with only one of my cards. Quad Core Q6600 @ 3.4ghz and a 512mb 2900pro @ 780/880 and i got 13000

cant believe he dont got more

in Cs Source with HDR turned on, i get artifacts, but not with HDR off. i also get som artifact in s.t.a.l.k.e.r.

but with 7.9 driver, everything is fine

No probs on CSS mate. HL series also. Solid. Been getting crashes on Crysis though, but i feel its OC... But all other run fine.

According to that thread, the bios is for 512MB only. I'm about three drinks away from trying it..... :D

tried one of the bios (880MHz Core, 950MHz Memory, 1.25v 3D Voltage)
- it flashed OK, but 3DMark06 caused a instant freeze.

He got cold feet and flashed back to XT again :D

overclocking in Crossfire mode is easy for me, since I run dual mons. I have a monitor hooked up to each card. All i have to do is disable crossfire in CCC and run rivatuner. overclock both cards and re-enable crossfire. works like a charm in XP. Although vista is a whole other beast.

What games are people playing with crossfire? been alittle dissapointed with the amount of crossfire compatible games.

Yah, to 1.25v, and I suspect it may up the vDDR as well, since they set the default clocks pretty agressive. (for us "old" xt owners with the crappier ram) ATI Tool doesn't work for me so I'd like something that will give me a vGPU bump.

Too bad I quit drinking too early last night... :D

I did it (flashed the BIOS) because Crysis is coming out next week and based off the beta I need all the FPS I can get. Here are the preliminary results:

2d GPU Voltage from 1.00 to 1.10 and amperage from 25.3 to 33.1. Not sure why they raised 2d volts, that seems dumb. Maybe there's some sort of global multiplier that affects 2d as well. The stock clocks are as advertised (880/950), but fortunately I can use AMD GPU Clock Tool to lower them, as my card was only stable at 864/920 previously. I'm going to start there and work up using UT3 demo as a stability testing platform. (since it's alot more fun than ATI Tool) Here's some info dumps from the BIOS:

Ah, ok :) I have the 1gb GDDR4 pro, and I keep the pro bios, because it benches higher than the XT at the same speeds, and I can already do 820/1035 perfectly stable with the pro bios using atitool artifact scanner for 2+ hours (and still no failure). Of course I am using a thermalright hr-03, as5 and a ghetto mounted 120mm fan :) I may even look into lapping the hr-03, it seems to have a pretty crappy finish on the contact surface. (compared to say, a scythe ninja)

Once ATITool is updated and voltage adjustment works, I assume I will be able to scale even higher as I am on all stock volts with the card currently.

Ya I'm not gonna upgrade my cooling so temps more of an issue for me but I expect the same. Hope W1z is working on it still; been awhile since a new beta. Maybe we should be posting in that forum...

Thanks! I'm a poor guy, I only have one card. :D I'm just trying this modded BIOS out to increase overclocking capacity due to the increased voltages. I'm still testing, but I'm over 900Mhz now on the core and I've got my memory bumped up by 30Mhz higher than my previous high as well. This BIOS definitely ups the vMEM as well.

If you wanna flash xfire, just make sure to specify the adapter number. I'd do both at a time. Here's the command syntax for atiflash.exe:

Flashed the '880c950m' bios only (visible) differences:

Vcore 2D= 1.10 (up from 1.00)
Vcore 3D= 1.30 (up from 1.20)

I'm on water, so not so consernd.

Testing in progress - starting point 870 (max stable on 1.20). should hit 900+ if the heat don't get me :D

Initial findings (using Aquamark because it's fast and gives a general idea of where the limits are);

Could loop AM at 910. Card barely breaks 50 degree C (core temp).
At 918 AM crashes 1 out of 2 times. So between 910 and 920 seems to be max OC at 1.30. Since heat seems to be no issue (yet), i'm tempted to try the 1.35 bios.

Something odd though - why does the bios raises the 2D voltage? Maybe it have something to do with the card itself - only alowing 2D +0.2 as max 3D voltage. Seems strange to me.

Crysis benching (\bin32\gpu.bat)

Average FPS; average of 3 runs (everything on 'medium', no AA, 1680 x 1050):

600/800: 42 fps (standard PRO)
743/828: 50 fps (standartd XT)
880/950: 60 fps
905/945: 62 fps
918/945: crashed within 1 minute.

I'm cpu limited - a quad would do better i guess.

You can monitor Vmem from Atitool. I measured Vmem and Vddq with a multimeter - within a few decimals it showed exactly the same as Atitool did.

(Be adviced - in the most common picture of the readout-points, I think vmen and vddq incorrectly have switched places..)

I'm pleased with my card - bought it as ' 600/800' card. It runs nicely at 900/999. I say bang for buck :D

Seems there are mixed feeling's about the pro's performance after flashing to the XT. Needs v. increase to scale up the o/c. You can always flash back if your results are not positive.

I picked up an 8800 GT for the amazing price of $199 CAD.. Going to compare it in my system to my Radeon 2900 Pro which is at 780/999 right now, with 1.1V 3D.

Unfortunately mine runs pretty hot even at that low voltage.. Anyone got a link to the 880 bios with 1.3V 3D? I'd like to compare it to this new 8800 GT I got that runs at 650/950 out of the box.

Also, should I bother risking the flash or just sell my Pro and work on OCing the 8800 GT?
