Worst case scenario: They make you pay the restocking fee of 15%. $280-15%=$238 left, still giving you enough to get the PC8000 Ballistix. Don't worry about getting 4GB, 2GB will suit 99.9% of us just fine.

No worries guys, It was like 4am and i saw 65$ and GMH in the same sentence and couldn't resist. Yeah Im going to grab the Ballistix. I thought 4Gb would be nice for vista but i will just wait awhile. Vista is annoying anyway. They didn't charge me a restocking fee
Found this on Newegg for $119 for a 2 gig kit. It looks like Micron ICs on it made by Wintec.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820161172
Any body know any more info on this?
They look like Micron ICs that are unmarked.

D9DCN typically doesn't clock very well
Confirmation.......confirmation......confirmation. ..., just kidding guys:clap:
I would probably be hesitant SnipingWaste on those modules as it's pretty rare that the RAM you acutally get is the RAM pictured at newegg! Granted it does happen but I certainly wouldn't count on it!
He's talking about Wintec AMPO PC6400, but they don't have Micron D9DCN.
Wintec generally uses Micron on their AMPX-line. AMPO is more like value memory and uses different ICs.
The review he mentioned can be found on TomsHardware.com » Overclocking 9 Value-Priced DDR2-800 Kits (page 5).
The ICs from the pictures on both TomsHardware and Newegg look very similar to the ICs we found on some SuperTalent modules, as clearly visible in the picture below:

Judging from the looks I'd say it's ProMOS.
Ive got to wait a few days to buy the Ballistix, I really hope that there will be another mail in rebate that starts on the 14th.
Term do you not have a spare cpu to use before you get the E6600?
BTW The Ballistix PC6400 Tracer edition is down to $199.99 ($169.99 after MIR) on tigerdirect.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...770&CatId=2261
I haven't seen enough of the PC6400 Ballistix Tracer so it's hard to say if they'll clock as high as the PC8000's but, if not, pretty close to it. What's strange is that both the PC8000 and the PC6400 have the same SPD's, first one is 4-4-4-12 @ 400mhz and 5-5-5-15 @ 500 (yes, the PC6400 has 500 5-5-5-15 spd programmed.) For all we know though, they could very well be the exact same things, just sold as different speeds.
They are trying to be tricky with the rebate, it says "purchase microsoft windows vista AND" at the top of the rebate form.
But it doesn't say that anywhere else for a while. The rest just says include upc of the memory module/kit.
but then term 2 says "copy of packing slip with windows vista and qualifying products circled"
that kind of sucks.
so do you guys think that anything over pc8000 is overkill (or is 8000 even overkill)?
i was looking at the ocz flex xlc 9200's which are rated for 5-5-5-18 @ 2.35 volts... and they do clock well but shouldn't most decently binned D9GMH be able to do the same?
5-5-5-18 @ 2.35 volts and 575mhz.
I need to give my ballistix 8000's a try at these specs.
Good points shimmishim, your right! I certainly believe your Ballistix are capable of that speed and those timings on even less voltage! It's easy to test anyway so give it a go and let up know. Kemo6600 brought up some great points on why the Flex might be a better buy over the Ballistix and I wanted to add one. Doesn't the PC2-9200 also have an 8-layer PCB? I thought I read that somewhere but I could be wrong?
On a separate note Mushkin just released a new PC2-9200 kit rated for 5-5-4-12, not bad for 1150Mhz! Unfortunelty their not the cheapest kit around at $424.99, lol! Might be worth checking Kemo for the first page?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820146686
I've seen a good review on the PC8000 Ballistix doing 650mhz 5-5-5-15 2.4V stable. I'll try to find it somewhere around here.
Wintec AMPX PC8000 down to $249.99

Sorry about that rebate on the ballistix tracer, I had forgot why I never check tigerdirect ;)
OCZ EL Platinum PC8000, ramlist has them listed as D9GKX, but probably D9GMH. $232.99-$25MIR
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...ductCode=85241
OOPS missed it on the first page :X
i think the Ballistix also uses 8 layers now but not that sure any way with that Mushkin go directly
here and use XS VIP code to get it for 364$ cheap ha :p:
650MHZ is a chipset thing more than ram thing
no prob i will update later tomorrow got go and sleep now :(
Not those but THESE are D9GKX but you can't find them anymore.
Hey Kemo, I'm going to get rid of my Patriot RAM, I also have some OCZ 9200 Flex XLC that will be going for sale so I'll just be keeping the Firestix 8000, Ballistix 8000 and 5400ULs as I'm retiring from memory whoring...LOL Oh yeah, ClubIT has one Patrio Kit ha ha ha for $389.
According to the ramlist nicepun:
PC8000 EL Platinum Extreme Edition 4.0-5-4-15 @ 2.2V (the ones you linked)
Micron D9GMH (B6-3)
Micron D9GKX (B6-25E)
PC8000 EL Platinum 5.0-5-5-15 @ 2.1V (the ones I linked)
Micron D9GKX (B6-25E)
hi fellas. Im wondering if anyone knows any details of these Geil ram at newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820144062
i noticed the wide range of voltage the specs list 1.9 - 2.4v and what im wondering is if these will do 900-950 range on laxed timings(going in an am2 build) ? They come at 4-4-4, so thats why im wndering if anyone has firsthand knowledge if they will get to 950 max(good enough for my needs). Just trying to see how cheap i can go here. Thanks for your time. :toast:
G.Skill HZ's are now $169 with free shipping over at newegg.
Jeeze, even the Ballistix (PC2-8000) is only $189 after MIR, these prices are crazy guys! I'm gonna go spent some time checking out newegg's stock!
From the reviews in newegg they seem to do 900-1000 and this fourm (Here) they are geting the same. Most people in these parts don't take to kindly to geIl tho. I would go with the g.skill HK if you want a sure thing.
I find myself doing that all day long :slobber:
I know just what you mean TeRm, lol!
i have almost considered sending back my HZ's to exchange for the ballistix 1000's since they are only about $20 more once the rebate comes in, i am wondering if that is even worth it.
HZ update
I just bumped my vFSB and my vMCH to +.3 which is max on the ds3 rev 3.3, and tried to hit 1125 with 2.5v to the memory, wasn't happening, very unstable, bios would freeze often, and even memtest pulled through with about 2000 errors in like 2 seconds. I think i got a kit that wasn't meant to oc very well.
Seems the ballistix rebate ends today, otherwise i would have exchanged these HZ's for those and just waited on the rebate.
Kemo... this has to be said every once and awhile...
Keep up the great work...
why this isnt a sticky yet I have no idea...lol
btw... an example like the Teem with the heatspipes... why exactly is it "approved for 965"
Also, if you change to option 2 for the Dram dll settings I believe it changes the drive strength.
thanks hutch, i would appreciate it.
here is what memset shows.
http://aycu38.webshots.com/image/114...5552107_rs.jpg
Great point Hutch, my 8000HZ's (4-4-4-5) had extremlty tight sub-timings by default and needed to be loosened substantially for any decent clocking. With that said they were by far the fastest modules at 1000Mhz I ever used! Zbomb have you verified what IC's your F2-8000PHU2-2GBHZ's are running? It would be great to know because their known to come with a few different chips? Also where did you get them and how long ago? Thanks for your help!
tWTR 13-14
tRRD 5-8
tRD_WR 9-10
Also try Ras to Cas 5 and if all that doesn't work try 5-5-5-15 timings to see if that gets you higher clocks. If it doesn't it means you're probably chipset limited.
It seems that the DS3 is ignoring most of the settings in the SPD of the ram. I get pretty much the same sub-timings with my crap sticks (they're either elpida or powerchip.)
i haven't verified, i figure the only way to do that is to remove the heat spreaders, which i don't feel too comfortable doing. I received them last monday, so it has been less than a week since i got them. They had the black pcb. Purchased from newegg.
I know someone else that bought them from newegg about a month ago, and they are running 4-4-4-12 1000 @ 2.1v which is great, but i can't manage that unless i do 2.2v.
I messed with a few things, i changed those settings in memset, then i figured i would play with overclocking the memory, but the only way to do that is to change the memory multiplier in bios and then overclock in windows, but when i changed the multiplier to 2.5, it cold booted and reset my settings, and i was trying to boot at 400fsb with ddr2 1000, so then i changed the memory multiplier to 3 and did about 350 fsb and it booted. I then tried to mess with overclocking, but cpuz didn't read my memory timings, either did memset, seemed like the memory wasn't being recognized.
I did change the fsb to 370 so x3 would be ddr2 1110 and ran super pi with that, a lot slower than usual also, like 22 sec, i normally do 16 sec.
I really just feel like playing with this memory is a waste, i probably got some ic's that aren't d9gmh which sucks. I think i will just wait for the ballistix pc8000 to come in.
So here is a question, and i was wondering which you would choose.
Crucial Ballistix pc8000 ddr2 1000 costs me about $215 shipped w/ tax once the rebate comes in. I need to wait for a $50 rebate, maybe 2 months. I have these on order, but i have till tomorrow to cancel them.
Or
I can get the Buffalo Firestix pc8000 ddr2 1000 for $210 shipped (but i would have to wait for the next shipment, and who knows if they will still use GKX).
so any choices and reasoning would be helpful for me to make this decision.
The pc2 1000 Ballistx should destroy that low bin gkx, I would wait a wile for the Crucials. Most of the pros around here cant preach enough about how amazing they are. I am waiting for a good deal on them myself.
Here are a few Ballistx deals I found, quite low compared to newegg :) almost 100$ cheaper on the 6400's
Ballistix 2GB (1GBx2) DDR2-677 = 160$
Ballistix Tracer 2GB (1GBx2) DDR2-667 = 167$
Ballistix 2GB (1GBx2) DDR2-800 PC2-6400 = 176$
Ballistix Tracer 2GB (1GBx2) DDR2-800 PC2-6400 = 183$
Theres also...
Ballistix 2GB (1GBx2) DDR2-1066 = 317$ ... If you feel the need to blow some cash
thanks for the opinion term, maybe ill wait for my ballistix then, should be here tuesday, barely made it in time for the rebate since i ordered at 11:40 pm and the charge processed at 11:57 pm on 4/13 and that was the last day of the rebate.
I am out about $262 currently, but hoping for the $50 rebate to come in.
How did you verify the date code to be d9gkx, is there somewhere to reference?
UPDATE:
HZ's were able to hit 1185 stable w/ 2.45v 5-5-5-18 in my cousin's p5b deluxe, so most likely it is my mobo that doesn't allow over 1090 memory speeds, even after playing with subtimings and all multipliers. Kind of sucks, but whatever. Maybe ill swap out the mobo someday.
Well since you're able to get around 500mhz fsb, drop the multi to 2.5 and the Fsb to 401. That'll give you 1000mhz. Use setfsb21a to overclock, make sure you have all your voltages set correctly. When you boot at lower memory speeds, the board will tighten the memory timings. Make sure you have active cooling on both your ram and northbridge. Any FSB over 333mhz really needs a fan over the northbridge. I've got an 80mm over mine, with nothing over the ram usually (1.9V doesn't even warm the heatspreaders.) When I bench, I usually bench in sub-freezing ambient temps...
Of course your pi times are going to go down when you set the FSB lower, you have an e6300 therefor the cpu will be clocked slower. You should be aiming for your max fsb (which is around 490?) with the multi set to 2.5x, which would result is a memory speed about 1180.
zbomb the P5B is probably setting different sub-timings than the DS3. If you could get a SS of the P5B's memset at 1185mhz you can copy those timings over to the DS3. I'm sure they are much looser.
I have a HR-05 nb heatsink along with an 80mm fan on it, so i am pretty sure the nb is very cool. And while i was testing the memory, i let a 120mm fan sit over the memory.
My max fsb is 522, so you are saying to boot up at lower fsb and not test the memory through booting up in the bios, but rather use setfsb21a to overclock and test the memory in windows? I might give that a try later on today.
i will try to do that also.
thanks hutch, ill let you know if i get any more luck.
UPDATE: I tried to use setfsb, but i had better luck just using easy tune (program that is for the ds3). Again, 2.5 multiplier does not work whatsoever when trying to oc the memory, it won't even do 1000+ without having problems and freezing on me.
I changed to multiplier of 3, and i had some more luck.
Problem is that I can only boot at 1140 in bios sometimes, and sometimes I can’t. So I broke the 1080 barrier after tweaking with the subtimings in the bios. But I had a lot more luck with ocing the memory when I tweak with the subtimings in memset and use easy tune to bump up the fsb.
I changed the subtimings to what are shown in the first pic for the hz’s, and those subtimings were pretty much what my cousin’s p5b deluxe are set to. I was able to hit 1170 fsb and run super pi 1m, but I also hit 1190 fsb before the comp froze trying to run super pi. Seems 1170 on the hz’s was the most stable for the ds3 with 2.5v. But I really didn’t do much testing, pretty much trying to figure out if the ds3 is limiting the memory overclock or if it is the memory.
http://aycu09.webshots.com/image/122...7689544_rs.jpg
I then ended up testing my cousin’s crucial, which also wouldn’t boot at over 1140 in bios with loose timings. Under easy tune though, with setting the subtimings pretty much to what the hz’s were at, I was able to hit 1260 and get off a round of 1m super pi. I hit 1272 but the comp froze with the crucial at 2.4v, I really didn’t put any more voltage into the crucial since they are my cousin’s and he would probably get butt hurt if he knew I did.
http://aycu39.webshots.com/image/117...0807565_rs.jpg
So thanks hutch, I originally didn’t mess with multipliers and subtimings in windows much because I really wanted to get the memory to boot higher from the bios, but that just wasn’t happening. So you getting me to try setfsb made me play with a few other things in windows and I pretty much figured that I could hit higher memory overclocks if I played with them in windows, meaning my ds3 is capable of doing it, just not from bios.
zbomb: anytime bud ;)
G.skill PC8000 HZ back in stock at newegg for $239.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231077
In my opinion the Ballistix should definelty be your first choice, a bit more user friendly even though both kits are very capable!
Pick up a kit and let us know if it's the real deal Ziddey, I'm curiosu to know! There is a guy on ebay selling Crucial 10th Anni's for $80 shipped per 1GB modules and he's got about 18kits avaiable. Check it out guys I think it's the real deal?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=110115089377
he is in my city, i messaged him, i will let you know what he says, i asked if i could pick up 2 in town, i will even call crucial and ask about serial numbers to confirm that it is the real deal when i meet up with him if he lets me meet with him.
need to cancel my firestix orders if i am picking these up, and i need to decline shipment for my pc8000 crucial if i buy the anniversary sticks.
It is 3:51 am and I am still up. I have a few things i need to do at 7:30 am such as call buffalo and cancel my order for 2 2gb kits of the ddr2 800 firestix, then i need to contact a rebate place about my rebate for my antec spot cool fan which is suppose to be free after rebate but they declined my rebate even though it is on the same receipt as my antec nine hundred rebate which wasn't declined (doesn't make sense). Then I need to call newegg since I think i missed the rebate deadline for my pc8000 ballistix so i need to send those back or have the package returned to sender.
Then hopefully around 8-9 am i will call the guy that has the 17 1gb sticks of crucial anniversary series memory since i have their phone number now, and i may just pick up 4 of the 1gb sticks once i meet up with them, i will let everyone know about the ballistix anniversary sticks once i meet up with them and i will go straight home and make sure i can hit at least 1250 w/ 2.4v, if they are legit, then i would recommend them since it is an awesome price to have 1gb for $80 shipped if you are in the U.S., $153 shipped for 2gb if you are in the U.S.
@ $155 shipped for 2gb of Crucial Tenth Annies this would be a freaking awesome deal if you ask me. You know, sometimes people do not know what they are selling, for all we know he/she may think he/she selling just regular PC2-5300 with a pretty blue heatspreader...:p:
Whats the deal with those 120$ firestix???
New deal on the firestix....
Buffalo FireStix (GMH) 2x1 DDR2 800 102$
Get them wile they are hot :P

Corsair Dominator PC8500 down to $259.99 after rebate

Yes Shimmishim, it was me who let the cat out of the bag. It was very late and it just slipped out, lol! I guess I should have kept my mouth shut because I wasn't able to go back and get another stick after accidenlty only getting one, lol! Live and learn!
Your not kidding nicepun, I would rather have gotten your Patriot modules for sure! Plus when I first saw that auction that shimmishim showed me I thought it was actually 2GB for $72 because I was so excited I didn't read thoroughly, lol! So I only bought 1GB instead of 2GB and by the time I realized this all the modules had sold out!!!
10th anniversary for $72 a stick.... still in static wrap :D
http://www.johnshim.com/forums/bleed.../IMG_3313s.jpg
Well get off your butt and test them, lol! By the way I just got confirmation that my module shipped! Are you going to check what IC's those modules are running shim? I guess we can assume their GMH but it would be nice if you would verify for us! Depending on whether or not I keep my module I'll definelty check the IC's to verify what they are (lets hope they didn't decide to switch over to Handpicked Elpidas), lol!
those look familiar
i tested one of mine, it hit 1290 with 2.4v, the other hit 1265 about.
I have them running 1036 4-4-4-10 @ 2.2v stable, they were able to do 1050 4-4-4-10 @ 2.2v stable in memtest.
Let us know how good yours are, i am sure you will probably enjoy them.
i'll give them a good test later on.
right now i'm pushin' my ballistix 8000's and having fun with them.
also installed a new chipset WB on my NB. really hopin' to push it tomorrow.
i've had a kit of 10th anniversary before but had to get rid of them when i stick died and crucial didn't have any in stock at the time. :(
Thinking about selling my Cellshocks to pick up a kit of Crucial's new PC2-8500 (good or bad idea)? I still regret selling my PC2-8000 Ballistix, by far the best kit I've ever had and I miss them!
I was wondering how well those PC2-8500 would OC. If I ever sell the OCZ 9200 FlexXLc I may one set.
Alright, whoever gets them first needs to put up a review!
I ordered the Ballistix Tracer 8500 for 207$ with no rebate a few days ago and a 6600 for 235$.
Cant wait to test them. Will post a review asap.
G.Skill PC8500 HK for $199.99 on newegg!

I got this problematic Super Talent ddr2-800 T800UB1GC5 5-5-4-12 I wanna get rid of it and get something for OC...
what do you guys recommend? I am surprised, these crucial 10th anni are only ddr2 667? but you OC them way past that and they perform much better?? hmm someone recommend and how can i find out what chip my super talents are...
Intel core 2 Duo e6600
Asus P5B Deluxe
Super Talent ddr2-800 T800UB1GC5 5-5-4-12

i wonder anyone can help me out on Supertalent rams. before it was D9GMH/D9GKX but recently r00n (ramlist) indicated it's promos. i just want to double confirm before i lay me hands on it. thanks. if it's still D9 i think it's one of the cheapest D9 ram now.
1. T800UX2GC4 PC6400 DDR800 2x1G 4-4-3-8 (Blue Headspreader)
2. T800UX2GC5 PC6400 DDR800 2x1G 5-5-5-15 (Blue Headspreader)
3. T667UX2GC4 PC5300 DDR667 2x1G 4-4-4-12 (Blue Headspreader)
thanks in advance.
you can check out this thread
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=141372
but it seems that most people don't think they are d9
it is crazy what kinds of deals you can get on crucial right now.
mwave has great deals right now.
2gb ddr2 1000 for around $170 and 2gb ddr2 1066 (pc 8500) for under $200.
let me know how those anni's compare to your 8000 set, i would appreciate it. hopefully you have had some fun playing around with those sets.
crucial is the beast.. :D heheheh
Heyz what do you guys think of the Gskill DDR2 PC6400 HZ 2GB? has Micron D9 right? I can get amayzing prices on the Gskill, OCZ and Mushkin, what do you guys advise?
Thanks
its such a tough call with ddr2 prices falling.
all 3 have excellent customer service (i've dealt with all three before).
i guess it's just a matter of cost and personal preference.
for me, i think it'd come down to cost. i'd take whichever was the cheapest of the three.
I have a store and have one of the best or best distributor for OCZ, Mushkin and OCZ, so i can sme pretty good prices on them and wanted to know if the HZ would be a good choice or shoould i choose another Kit of memories? like the Hk.. just want to know witch kit would be the best for OC ?
Thanks
which ocz, mushkin were you thinking about?
whichever is the highest binned would probably o/c the best.
i'd guess 8500 > 8000 > 6400 but it's not always true.
I can get any kit i want, witch kit of 2x1GB would be the best?
so what are the other kits? it's hard to say which to get when you don't give the other options.
like i said, based on just brand from those three, it's impossible to pick since they are all good.
