I REALLY fail to see what can be gained from flashing to an inferior bios?! The Rampage bios may be slightly tougher on ram and chipset timings but once you learn the ins and outs of the bios, it's day and night in comparison to the lacking Maximus bios.

Well i was able to play games and boot into windows fine with the latest maximus bios (goal is to reach my rams at 1200mhz), but any kind of stress testing failed.
So now i've flashed back to rampage bios 0501 and its just as unstable as ever.
I dont know why this viper fin 9600 micron d9s hate this board so much. im going to try the rampage bios 0403.

Your read/writes should improve when you enable PL/Transaction Booster. Enable transaction booster and note the PL level. Slowly decrease the value each time until it becomes unbootable. Then use the previous value which allowed post, should give you much better results.:up:

1) Set all your Voltage settings manualy. NB Temp is high for just being idle in BIOS (My NB temp is about 35 idle)
What I do is set everthing to AUTO or Load Defalt Settings. Then I go into the monitor and see what my voltage are then, and write them down. Now I go and set my voltages manualy, but note that what you set them to is alittle different then what they will really be. The one that you really want to watch is DRAM. My BIOS setting is 1.94V but it really comes out to be 2.03V. Almost 0.10V higher then I set it. And depending on your RAM you need to set that your self every time. By Default my DRAM Voltage is 2.0V, and for me thats good because thats my RAM's rated Voltage.
2) Just look through this thread and check other peoples BIOS Settings.

This is a Maximus formula flashed to a rampage. on the 0410 BIOS. i've tried the 0308 and i was had problems getting my performance level down and the 0410 let me get down to 07. Much better bios so far in my eyes.

Might want to up NB volts to 1.51-1.53.
460 FSB and 266 strap, doubt it, 333 or 400 strap.
Drop the multi to 7 and see if it it posts at 460, if not likely you've hit a wall

Got some new ram. I used the Axe ram in it and The board liked it till a kit went bad. 4gbs in all.. Checked out, and saw that the Blue lines are now gone. If I throw any ram in it, red instance in Memtest. Even my new 2x2 sticks i got last night show it like that. But, white lanes is running good. SO, once I get my 780i board back from DOA, thanks Newegg, I'll be rmaing the Max to Asus.
As for you Fur.. Have you tried the pencil mod to the board?

maybe try setting your strap to 333 or 400 and pick which ever will get you close to what you want 1000, 1066, 1081 or ? then set your nb volts, fsb term volts and cpu volts to auto and see if it will boot then check the hardware monitor to see what volts it auto sets it to if it boots and work close to them to start. i am guessing the nb volts set to auto will be in the 1.65 area but you may not need that,, more like 1.51 for that.. 1.56 real.. get the others close to what auto sets it at and go from there.. maybe keep your cpu and fsb term volts a little closer together.. my fsb termination is a little higher then my cpu volts at 3.61 mhz. my cpu is at 1.36-7 real and my fsb term is at 1.42 real.. maybe bump your ram volts up .02 if they are rated to handle it.Quote:

Only report I get from OCCT is the CPU Temp going up to near 60 degrees in no time, they seem to remain steady around that temperature though (not sure).

Man, been awhile since I posted in here. I got myself an E8600 and a Tpower I45 board. Put everything together and went to OC. Long story short, I have put this board back in and am clocking the 8600 on it. That Tpower may be good for extreme FSB speeds, but man it is a real whore to get working correctly. Once you have the feature set of an ASUS BIOS, you want nothing else. My board is modded to a Rampage on BIOS 0410 and it just loves this 45nm chip. I am still trying to find the max clock I can reach on water right now, but needless to say the performance has been wonderful. Lesson learned here: You get what you pay for.
i was close to getting one of those too.. i held out after looking at the bios and reading others issues with it.. i am kind of used to this maximus bios. the rampage bios was pretty sweet on it but started to go haywire after a week. it was doing all kinds of funky things with my usb, it would work and it wouldn't. it was also upping my volts to crazy high volts after i would set them where i wanted them.. so i switched back to the maximus bios and havn't had to many problems with it. these asus bios options once you figure them out are pretty friendly. i came from a socket A board so everything was new to me and it took a while. i don't think i would want anything different now after getting used to it.
Well im currently trying to get my system stable at 2.82ghz. I have a rampage formula x48, q9550. I had a stable 2.6ghz setup but im trying for some more now just to see what I can get. Heres a ss of everest

I cant even run occt. I either get a code 1 error or code 4. Any suggestions to try and get this stable?

Neither of your two setups managed to boot.
I need a higher NB volt to start with.
But for some reason OCCT and Prime (same code) drop 1 thread within 15 seconds of testing and the other one stops as a result of that (Code 1 / 4).
I'm running 3.6GHz atm which seems stable. And 4 seems stable too, but OCCT says differnet.
Win Vista x64 isn't a problem, when testing OCs?

I have got some screens and settings to post for you guys this evening. I got my 8600 4.5GHz stable today under water cooling. I will update my specs and post my settings and hopefully they will be of some use. :D
I couldnt get 3.8 stable so I went back to 3.6. I kept turning the vcore up but never got rid of the code errors on occt.

I should note that I did pass the 2 hour test, I only started doing the 20 minute tests because I was individually lowering my volts down 1 by 1 so just needed a quick stability test to make sure it stayed stable.

Well all night ive been struggling to get to 3.9 but I just cant get it stable. Been reading around and came to the conclusion that my 9550 limit is 448 fsb x 8.5 multi. Im stable all day at 448 but once I started bumping it higher, I cant last more then 1 minute on occt wether its mix, ram, or cpu. Doesnt matter. I updated my latest test in post 7278. Thats were I want to keep it for 24/7 use. Are all my volts in good shape for that? Any reason not to?

Before my CPU PLL Voltage was at 1.60 and my NBv had to be set at 1.65 for it to be stable, now when I lowered the CPU PLL Voltage to 1.50, my NBv is at 1.53. So it really does make a difference in terms of stability. :)Quote:

hmm what's temp at load; that nb voltage seems a little on the high side. Set DRAM control to 'manual' and advance clock skews to 300 each on A/B; that should do the trick.

Under occt it gets to 70c for cpu and upper 50's for nb. While gaming tho those both never get close to those temps. I was gaming a good 8 hours yesterday and she was flawless. Nothing got above 55c from video card to mb and everything inbetween.Quote:
