Unfortunately, LN2 part is made using plastic, and such as Quantum 4in1 cooling solution advertised as "all-copper", it is also out of the specifications :rofl:Quote:

Thanks! BTW 790i is the most unstable MB I had during my whole PC experience time, and I have started with XT (8086) ... and mainframes.
Well I am up and running but so far not thrilled. Not sure if I have a RAM or MB prob.
Anytime I take the RAM off of AUTO settings it crashes and won't boot into Vista 64.
The RAM is supposedly rated at 1600Mhz 7-6-6-18 OCZ platinum
but I can't get it to boot Vista at all at anything other than "auto" settings on the MB, which sets the RAM to 1066Mhz :(.
I set it to 1600Mhz 9-8-8-24 and 1.75V and it will barely post, and won't boot Vista.
Actually anytime I take the RAM off auto it just crashes.
More tweaking is obviously needed. First time to use 8GB so the quantity involved may be having an effect. Think I am going to just leave one stick in there and see what happens.
Most probably it is OCZ RAM. I have purchased it and couldn't run at stock speed on 790i, then I have replaced it (RMAed) with Crucial Ballistix DDR3-2000 and had been able not only run it, but also lower the timings from stock 9-9-9-28 to 8-8-8-24-1T@2000, but at 1800 it couldn't able to run at 7-7-7-21-1T@2V, still need 8-7-7-21-1T. Then I have seen that mostly overclockers use Corsair DDR3-1800C7DF with uber timings and decided to try it. I have purchased it and it was able to run it 7-6-5-18-1T@1840 MHz@2V ... but the random stability issue was killing me, sometimes 790i was stable during days, sometimes it was frozen during an hour or after a start.
I applied 2T instead of 1T and it seems that stability improved, but then it came again. I have tried everything, GTLVREF, different voltages according to successful peoples settings, nothing helped. I have found some kind of parasitic oscillation on the CPU during heavy load test (Everest).
I gave up.
Try slackening all your timings manually. The BIOS sets quite agressive timings, particularly in the subs.
I just set it to 1.92V, 10-10-10-24, 2T and it still BSODs while loading Vista at 1600Mhz. :( :confused:
I then go back into the BIOS during restart and "load optimized defaults" which will then hang the computer after saving and exiting.
The only way to get it to boot again is to push the little CMOS button on the MB.
Does anyone know what brand of RAM is best for Foxconn?
Only getting 1066 on 1600Mhz RAM is unaceptable and a huge waste of money.
If I cant figue it out or get help from the OCZ or Foxconn people may have to RMA both and go back to my usual ASUS + Corsair (which has always given me super reliable overclocks). :(
Have to remove half of you RAM and just go with 4GB instead of 8GB. I saw on another forum where a guy said he had better luck with 6GB. Just a thought.
A lot of RAM folks love to lie to over sell crappy RAM. I got Gskill PK that's supposed to be 800MHz that will only stay stable at 667MHz. This was after RAMing BZ that wouldn't run at 800MHz either. I will not say I'll never buy from them again, but they're at the bottom of my list.:rolleyes: I'm talking about stock configs LOL, no overclocking. HZ can be the best in the world, but that changes nothing in my case.

Only fault is that it will not wake up from Deep sleep mode. Same config with the cheap DS3L Gigabyte had ZERO problems and even seemed faster.
Last but not least, please don't burn your RAM up trying to drop the timings. Unlike past processor from AMD and Intel, memory timings just aren't as crucial for great performance. Smart memory management for Processor Cache and System memory takes care of that;)

These two help lessen negative effects of the FSB and off-die memory controller. RMA it if it doesn't run as advertised but that would be the only reason to worry about it IMHO!
I just got a response back from OCZ support and they say that rated timings are for one kit and I should not expect to get over 1500Mhz with 8GB. :down:
So going to RMA the OCZ on Monday and pony up the extra cash for some Corsair XMB SPD certified sticks.

The temps on 790i NB were down to 60-62C comparing to stock 67-69C (OC, loaded) with significantly lowered noise. This x48 mod is much better though - more efficient, lower temps around 41-43C (OC, loaded), lower fan RPM (1800 vs 2600), even lower noise, better look.
x48 NB dissipates significantly less power then NB of 790i though AFAIK, thats a plus, RAID performance is another HUGE plus, etc.
This board seems to hate OCZ DDR3 i can not get any of there 1600,1800 or 2000 MHz sets to run without failing memtest after seconds, Yet if i use any Corsair Dominator or DHX it works like a charm. I've manualy set all the ram setting and it makes little difference, I just cannot understand why OCZ DDR3 has such a hard time working when the Corsair stuff clocks well even with full auto settings.
I am also curious why you came over here and posted this and you have not even been back to your thread for more troubleshooting.
If you have a defective kit, then OCZ will make it right. Please do not assume that nothing will be done.

I have access to multiple kits, The 1600Mhz kit for example will pass memtest at 1400Mhz but no ammount of tweaking will make it work at 1600 Mhz, Yet a Corsair Dominator or DHX 1600 MHz kit will work on full auto settings. This is only the second board i've had with DDR3 so manybe i am missing something, But there seems to be some issues with this board and OCZ DDR3
Maybe someone from OCZ can suggest some settings that will work ?
Well I have already RMAed it back to Newegg. I do not want to spend days trying to get 1333-1400Mhz stable on sticks that are supposedly rated at 1600Mhz.
I would rather spend my time trying to get an actual overclock.
I am not inexperienced and have been building PCs for abut 6 years, so, while not a professional, I do know for the most part what I am doing.
The fact that your professional employees state that they have not been able to get over 1500Mhz stable, says to me, "then why should I waste my time?" Also it begs the question of why you advertise them at 1600Mhz? :confused:
I ordered 8GB of http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145190 Intel XMB SPD certified RAM to replace it.
As to why I posted here, it is because I have been a member here for awhile (and a lurker for even longer). I trust XS for unbiased discussion even though I usually just read and do not post.
Also it looks like someone else is now reporting major problems with OCZ RAM on this board.
I am looking for a new mobo and this looks really interesting :)

For me FSB was a nightmare.
Anyhow right now my board wont even boot anymore, so going to spend some loving moments with it and a screwdriver this week to kick start it back to life
