Can you all please try to confirm that everything = default but vNB=1.3V will lead to not booting ?
Thanks.

Can you all please try to confirm that everything = default but vNB=1.3V will lead to not booting ?
Thanks.
I've having problems booting at 1.12v NB, never mind 1.3v.
I'm going to try the 0702 BIOS.
Anyone tried 0704 BIOS yet?
On my board with 4gb Mushkin ram I get these results with the Qx9650 :
400FSB and Ram at 800Mhz -- Bios sets 13 perf level at AUTO setting -- Lowest manual is 9 (8 doesn't post)
400FSB and Ram at 1003Mhz -- Bios sets 10 perf level at AUTO setting -- Lowest manual is 7
400FSB and Ram at 1066Mhz -- Bios sets 9 perf level at AUTO setting -- Lowest manual is 7
450FSB and Ram at 900Mhz -- Bios sets 13 perf level at AUTO setting -- Lowest manual is 10 (OCCT stable)
450FSB and Ram at 1081Mhz -- Bios sets 10 perf level at AUTO setting -- Lowest manual is 8 (OCCT stable)
500FSB and 1000Mhz ram is perf level 10 (OCCT Stable)
500FSB and 1200mhz ram is Perf level 8 (OCCT Stable)
I have to admit I never went over 1.5NB voltage to test, I tried a quick boot with 1.7Nb voltage but whenever I set a lower PL value it doesn't post or is very unstable in Windows... Think P45 is a bit crippled here over P35/X38/X48
but makes up for it with heavy and easy FSB clocks...
PL is performance level : it's ram related, I'm no technical geek but it increases overal bandwith and lowers latency... overal with this board if you can run a divider (so not 1:1) do it... you are rewarded with a lower PL which brings more performance... I've summed up my findings in the above post with early tests on which PL level to expect... I don't run weird FSB ranges I only do 400 - 450 and 500 :)
I haven't been out of the loop for a year and I still don't understand half of what is being said here ... primarily due to the mammoth change in BIOS, coming from the P5W DH bios, which was essentially 2 years old. The BIOS on the P45 has changed so tremendously, I'm basically accumulating bits & pieces of information from here & there. We definately need a new, P45 updated OC Guide.
Anyhow, Lee, thanks for the info on PL.
Now I'm getting somewhere...

Totally Awesome!!! Can't believe you hit the magic 4.0Ghz (500X8)!! That is really, really promising. Do we have the same memory kit? (OCZ Platinum Edition 4GB (2X2GB) PC2-8000).
Would that 1.4v hurt the CPU? It's higher then it's rated 1.3v
Now - I need to get my system to where you're at - And get it Prime Stable!!
Start reading up guys :D These guides I found very helpful when I started seriously OC'ing. Hope you find what your looking for.
RAM Memory Timings
Definitive BIOS Term Guide/Definitions

Explains TM1, TM2, & EIST in detail (thermal controls for a cpu)
What's colder than a freezer? LN2? :p:
Thanks, but all these are pretty old and none of them is p45 specific ;) Put it another way - I've already know how to oc in general, or how to oc conroe on a 975 board (p5w specifically). Now, I'm moving on to wofldale and this board and it's more complicated - more options, etc, so I would like to know what does what. Your links are helpful in general but not with this board, unfortunately.
Move on to watercooling!
How much of an overclock are you looking to get? Also, what currently are you using for cooling?
As for other solutions there are many, but it depends on how much you want to spend. And also if your looking for 24/7 overclocks, or temporary extreme benching overclocks.
Yeah we've the same kit. It should do 1040mhz without tweaking the sub-timings.
Nah 1.4v won't hurt the CPU. It drops considerably under load.
And Prime95 stable can wait til the w-end. I alreay know this chip is 8 hours stable at 3.8ghz on P35
http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/6645/4056x8wg9.jpg
Artic air, water chiller, single stage phase change, rotary phase, cascade phase, dry ice and LN2.
Well your PL question wouldve been answered by the RAM Timings article. Not to mention P45 just came out and there probably arent detailed guides yet for the people who dont want to do it on their own.
Also, many of the terms apply to P45 even if the article refers to P4's (like EIST/C1E/ram timings/etc). So why not just figure it out yourself? Thats part of the joy of overclocking, then when you get your next mobo, you will understand it all better (and maybe wont need a guide).
Cob, post here a screen of the everest memory bench @ 4000 and mem 1:1 ;)
http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/6531/500memgv8.jpg
That's on PL 10 :)
You loose a little @PL=10 :(
I've get almost 9200 of Read and latency of 57,xx with my q6600 @ 3600MHz (8x450fsb) + mem @ 1128MHZ, PL=8
For the guys running 600 FSB stable, what RAM are you using?
For 2GB the Trancend AxeRam 9600+ is a must I think ;)
For 4GB, 1200MHz is very hard to reach.
600FSB/1200 ram is pretty hard to stabilize for a long time... I can do some Superpi runs 1-2-4MB, but all the others fail on me... running GSkill PC8000Hz here for benching... requiring 2.35 volts for 1200mhz 5-5-5-15 2T
Here's a screenie with 500FSB and 1200mhz on the ram... PL8
http://users.pandora.be/OAP/P5QDlx/500-1200.jpg
And 600-1200 PL13
http://users.pandora.be/OAP/P5QDlx/600-1200.JPG
But that's nowhere blend stable...
Thanks for the info. I'd never heard of Transcend RAM. I see they have a 1200 set but it looks like it's discontinued. If I somehow got my hands on the sticks, would 4x1 still be tough even though the RAM is rated for those speeds?
To add to Leeghoofd, I've also been able to boot fine with everything default and vNB 1.3. That's on 0702.
Currently: Arctic Freezer 7 Pro
Looking for: 24/7 Stable
Clock Speed: Well, when I bought the Q9450, I was looking for 3.2GHz - 3.6Ghz 24/7 Stable, and if I can get anything between that, I'll be a happy camper. (I bought the P35 P5K-E with the CPU, but RMA'd it due to horrible board layout & other limitations, and bought the P45 instead which released just the day I was RMA'ing my P35) Anything over that would be a bonus. I understand that on Air I probably won't get any further then that, which is fine. At this time I'm not really looking to spend on cooling, as I've just upgraded my motherboard, processor & memory.
In two years when I upgrade to Nehalem (or even Sandy Bridge), I'll definately move on to Watercooling - but for now I'm not going into that.
I do a lot of video encoding (hence the SSE4 45nm Quad), editing & a lot graphics work - so I'm definately looking for 24/7 Stable - not interested in benchmarking and stuff. I'd love to take it "as close as possible" to 500FSB, but considering my "on air" setup, I don't expect miracles.
On a side note: as far as Air Coolers are concerned, I was in another vast thread here at XS discussing them and pretty much the consensus was that none of them provided any "significant" improvement over the other - little +/- didn't really call for "replacement", which is why I really didn't bother replacing the AC7 Pro.

Can you run spi16m??I stopped on 6x565,but I thinkk this is the end of my e8500(will see yet),anyway im able to run most of the benches-not a spi16/32m
Orthos small FFTs no problem, but blend not stable.I was trying few settings with pl but no success :(
My Lanfest can run 630 5-5-5-5 2.19v,so that's not a problem...
Does Video Card installed in your system affect Overclocking in any way?
Lee , I'm ready to order a P45 board and have been trying to decide between the P5q Deluxe and the Maximus II Formula . What are your thoughts on these boards as I know you are testing the P5Q at the moment?
Buy the P5Q Dlx mate, board is performing well and with the cash that you save you can buy almost 4GB of PC8000 ram which will help ya to clock some more MHz out of ya CPU...
In belgium shops are expecting that the Maximus II Formula will retail just below the P5Q Premium around 210-220 euro's that's about 70 euro's more than I payed for this Dlx, a Mushkin or Gskill 4Gb PC8000 kit cost around 80 euro's here...
Thank you very much for the info and advice . I'll oder the P5Q and get some PC8000 memory then.
Venom-Crusher, what memory are you using men ? :D
someone already declined the 0704 to 0702?
I think 0702 it`s a nice bios
Regards
Any problems with the 0704 ?
I found that 0704 messes with the time in the BIOS on every bad overclock and pretty much clears the CMOS. And there seems to be a lot more 'bad' overclocks on 0704 than there is on 0702.
I don't think 0704 is ready for public use.
I think you are correct about the clear CMOS feature.
Back to 0702, after a forced bios restore :(
0704 is working fine for me , the only times I had to switch off the psu and then restart to post again was with very botched bios settings . I was also finally able to get past 453 fsb using 0704 bios with 475 prime stable with 4x1gb@951mhz , I'll be tweaking the ram more later but for now I'm too busy playing games without crashing constantly as was the norm with nvidia boards .
I think not, but ... is has been a problem downgrade to 0702?
When does the premium launch?
Confirm :)
Can anyone show me spi16/32m with FSB more than 550Mhz+
??
I found few interesting things with fsb 550-560:
5-5-5-15 550/333/1100 bios pl 13-manual pl 10
4-4-4-12 550/333/1100 bios pl 12-manual pl 9
but the thing is spi16/32m is not stable, orthos blend as well and all other benches like spi1m,wprime,orthos fft's ,pcmark are stable...any ideas?
According some websites launch willbe within a few weeks, but nice thing is that the Formula board is priced less then the Premium... depending on what you prefer ofcourse
Will test the 0704 tonite, see if I have any probs with Cmos resets...
Cob is there maybe any improvement ramwise, making it a bit harder to setup ?
Will try tonite Prost71...
This looks to be one of the better boards available ATM, now all I need to is decide between this one and the similar Gigabyte board :D
I don't understand the situation of performance level, I don't know how the situation is with the other Intel chipset but why you can have better PL (also 2/3 level PL!) with higher memory frequency? It seems strange that with 1:1 divider and most conservatives FSB and ram frequency you can't have almost the same PL of a most tighter setting.
What is it?
Something related to chipset... something related to Asus mobo or bios... or this is the normal situation and with 1:1 divider you can't use a best PL level that, paradoxically, you can obtain with tighter settings?
PL sucks for the moment.
@400fsb it should boot with PL=6
@450fsb it should boot with PL=7
....
Gigabyte has even more work, you cannot compare this chipset with P35/X38/48... why do you think we have so easy high FSB clocks
Look at this :
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/200...-ga-ep45-dq6/7
Each mobo/chipset type will have it strong dividers... and give better performance... I tested the dividers at 400-450-500 and 600FSB... 1:1 is pretty poor as it requires a high PL (usually 10 and above) so you need good high speed ram to get the most out of it...
71Proste findings are weird, one of the reasons I will try this tonite, he can run lower latencies and decrease PL...will test with 0702 first then 0704 to see what gives...
I see no difference between 0702 and 0704,maybe the first one is more stable, but no difference with max fsb and spi16/32m stability.
What I know for sure I can run spi16/32m with max 543FSB at the moment and spi1m/orthos small FFt's prio9 about 560Mhz-higher system is not bootable :(
It must be something with ram setting, but I can't find reason.I tried PL,voltages, tymings, strap 333/400 and no success.
Does anyone know why my Q9450 is running at 6.0 X 334 (2004MHz) with an Out-Of-Box BIOS on this board? I haven't touched the settings at all yet, waiting for the weekend to overclock. But CPU-Z & Everest are reporting that my CPU is running with 6x Multi @ 2004MHz. That's lower then it's stock rated Multi of 8. What gives?
I know it's easy to fix, but I thought CPU always ran at stock if you ran BIOS at stock.
0702 -

0704 -
http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/2128/500mem2fg0.jpg
The extra 7mhz of the 0704 shot probably accounts for the slight difference.
Oh yeah, that's right! I had read about this sometime back - it completely blanked out of my mind, Doh!!
Relieved to know there's nothing wrong with my CPU.
Awesome!! I think someone back in these pages was talking about how to find out voltages that Auto sets. Not sure - might be mistaken.
new P5Q deluxe arrived yesterday i have problem with PS Ultra X3 1Kw
some one have same PS?
sorry guys,
Wich is the best bios for p5q deluxe?
where can I download it?
thanks
i wonder if a Q6600 G0 with a nice cooler and good memory will reach 4 Ghz on this mobo...
I'm back onto 0704 today and I'm finding no performance differences from 0702 with my Q9450. Getting the BIOS time going hay-wire on every 'bad' overclock again, so I'll likely go back to 0702 again shortly.
Im having many problems with this MB.
If I set higher reference (the best is on auto- the minimum) I get lower max FSB and I cant get it stable on 4ghz (no problem on Maximus)
What are max 24/7 PLL and FSB voltages?
I got my Q6600 to 4.3ghz with all chipset voltages on the lowest setting (not auto).
Ok it wasn't stable at 4.3ghz, but getting stable at 4ghz would have been easy.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131296
the P5Q-E is out too for $160
too many mobo's to choose from...i wonder how this compares to the Deluxe
Right I think I've finally figured out that setting the FSB Term voltage to Auto at 500x8 (Q9450) equates to setting 1.58v manually.
Scary.
Hey guys, someone know the different between P5Q Deluxe with Part No.: 90-MIB4G0-G0EAY00T
and P5Q Deluxe Part No.: 90-MIB4G0-G0EAY00Z ?!
Thanks
Chris
Mine is 'T' and has the Made in Taiwan sticker ;)
Is this board 16x 4x? like the P965, P35 and so on? or is it 8x 8x? I havent found too much information on it regarding this.
If someone has Crossfire/SLI can you test how it benches with the reduced PCIE Link Width?
P45 is x8/x8
Yeah it's x8/x8 PCI-E 2.0.
8x 8x pci-e 2.0 is more than enough for crossfire...
Awesome mobo, wonder how it is his bios compared to Maximus II.
In response to what I mentioned earlier, and in case anyone reading is interested in the same, I think I'm going to go with these:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227299
According to newegg reviews, anandtech and legion hardware, these 2x2 sticks were able to handle 1200 stable on air. :)
Crucial Ballistix PC2-6400 :D
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/images/Enl.../80061-9_A.jpg
i have a P5Q3 dlx and it wont run anything other then auto. i have tried the 0504 bios and 0702 bios and i get the same results with both. im using crucial balistix 1600mhz kit.
any suggestions?
can someone post there bios settings for 400mhz FSB?
Which CPU?
400mhz FSB should be possible on the lowest FSB Term, PLL and NB voltages.
I would like to know if anyone has used this memory in the P5Q Deluxe ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231145 ) and if it worked ok . About to order soon if someone could help. Thanks
Thanks Lee so these would be better (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231166 ).
Would love to see if you can hit 1200Mhz stable on these mate, if so these will be my new rams then ;)
Most of us think that they are better build and more resistant than the cheaper PC8000 ones... think at stock speeds it ain't worth the cash, but to get something extra eg they might be wort the investment...
K did some tests, reverted to 6 multi and started off with 550FSB/1100 ram... I left Perf levels to be decided by the bios aswell as subtimings...

I ran into trouble at 590FSB... upped Ram voltage to 2.35 (max I want to give my Gskills as they worked fab at 1200mhz at 2.3v on the P35)... went a bit further, dropped PL to 15 almost completeds it's run ( see screenie ) so it could be my ram that needs some more juice ( will try later with a fan over them )... Then I tried to mess with Read Trainer and OC Charger and set them to have more clocking headroom... seemed to have inversed effect as it crashed now at ineration 8...
Will let things cool down and try again to see if I can make 590 complete ( will mess too with the Skews...and TRFC)
wow those are some nice numbers ppl keep them coming
Leeghoofd, vNB ?
1.4 mate for 590, rest are on auto, 600 seems like a tough nut, playing with the skwes now...
590 DONE
