does it mean that it is impossible to give more then 1.60v to the cpu regardless of the settings from bios? if so why there is more than 1.60v options to select in bios?
no, that's just the ability to understand the vid signal from the cpu. with most motherboards, when you change vcore from stock / overclock / change vcore a certain amount, it'll override the vid information from the cpu and set vcore independently.
as an example, coretemp will show you the vid. also, you can get rmclock and it'd show you the vid as well in a graph.

Oh man, this is a massive thread. Thank you all for contibuting to all this knowledge on one single place. I have picked up a lot to try when I get home from vacation.
I have to go back to what you all refer to as the "double boot" or "endless reboot".
I understand that it is normal to have a cold boot after setting some of the OC to certain values.
I have the same thing but here's the twist:
Let's say I change the divider along with lets say the FSB above 417, then I get a double boot over and over again and IT WILL NOT STOP.
I have had it do "double boot" for an hour just because a got frustrated.
So whats the obvous solution? YES, CCMOS! But that does not work, nor does anything else.
I have tried to remove battery, pull the powercord, short the pins under the battery, keep the power off for hours. Yes I have tried it all but the board won't boot. Not until I replace my memory with a whole different kind.
I pop in one single stick of Samsung 512MB DDR-667. Get into BIOS and Load Default, then I'm ready to go.
So you could say I get endless "double boot".
Did anyone experince this and HOW did you get out of the loop?
I also got a note in "PC-Health" that say DDR18V - Fail
What is that?? It doesn't matter if I set it to AUTO or +0.550 (default for my mem)

Well these are some of my results with a p35-dq6.Mem's used where 8500 2x1 gb,and 2x2gb Mushkin DDR800 5-5-5-15 PF+(D9HBD).Quite impressive since they got 500 5-3-3-10 ;) Actually what do you think about its performance clock per clock versus other boards,i've done 1M with a 3.2 GHZ Celly 420,unfortunately FSB-walled ate 407 :confused:
what is the ltest P35T DQ6 bios you have? i really need one but F2 is the latest on Giga site
Gigabyte seem to be slow in providing updates. I'm still waiting for a P35-DQ6 bios that isn't broken, so that I can really start to make this board work instead of getting hit and miss results.

Actually the problem was strange and the fix is simple and surprizing... You need to actually go above 1200 mhz to get the memory to boot :P
So u want something around 1240 mhz... this is achievable with d9 chips only.
Use OPTION1 manual and set everything to 5-5-5-15 the everything else on auto... and finally TRD which is the PERFORMANCE LEVEL at 6! and it works. Maybe Option 2 helps go 1300
Maybe try 7 for perf level but it should work with 6 too...
I am currently feeding my mems 2.37 (+0.4 in bios) actual voltage (this is normal for d9 at those speeds with cooling but u may try +0.3) and MCH +0.2, FSB +0.1, Multiplier is 8X and FSB is 388. Mem multi is 3.20. Bios F4B.
System runs cool.

Well the problem,mainly the solution do tell that this is a bios problem...However,it depends on the divider you are using to get that frequency over 1100 mhz,for example,my memory can do 4-4-4 at 600 mhz,using 4:5 divider,but they cannot do it still at 600 mhz,but using 2:3 divider,so this is also a matter.
Avoid 600. Go above like 620... It should work on all dividers.Quote:

I have a question.. I once loaded F4b bios and it was 3+ more hours orthos stable at 490fsb but when I rebooted , it didn't open as it was an overclocking failure. and one of the times it booted, all the things in bios turned to default settings, ı mean like clearing the cmos, and it repeated sometimes when an overclocking failure happened. bu the performance was better than f3a, I mean memory latency etc, Now currently ı'm using f3a bios but when I saw u using f4b without any problem ı want to reload it. did you experience something like that similar to my problems with f4b bios?
Yes. This was caused by memory overclock failures and too low mem voltages at certain MHZ also caused by faulty memory stick!
Zsamz actually I booted 1230 at PERFORMANC LEVEL 5! ORTHOS STABLE! This further decreased the latency and added READ... Try to lower performance level. LESS PERFORMANCE LEVEL = better performance. Locco u didnt have the problem because u used CAS 4 maybe?

yeah, i'm looking to push 2x1gb ocz flex 9200's into the 1200's. on air though, no water through them, but i read they can make 1300. i usually superglue a fan to the nb heatsink but in testing i held it there and still couldn't get over 490, made no difference, so not sure if i'm gonna bother with this board.
well i can confirm what vld says about the memory at 1200 my system will not boot at all if i set my memory between 1101-1210 anything below and up to about 1260 above the system will boot ok.
i am currently running my E6600 at 7*505 with memory at 606 5:6 divider, it will boot at 7*515 but prime will fail after about 10 minutes

You guys are not doing something right, you dont need such high FSB to get the numbers... use higher multi and less FSB, this will result in a stable system plus good numbers. Try it... High FSB is only needed if u have like a 6300 and want to push it... What you guys are doing by lowering mulitplier and increasing fsb is putting more stress on the system. try to keep FSB under 417. This chipset is designed for much higher memory mhz, so it is prolbably the high FSB that keeps your system unstable not the memory mhz.
For example try the following settings on for P35C F4B bios:
FSB: 410
cpu multi: 8
mem multi: 3.0
Try that in performance level 6 and then 5 for d9 chips... Mine is really stable and I like this setting. Make sure the CPU is getting enough voltage first by running small ffts (usually cpu needs 1.5 in bios at 3280 mhz) and also u need +0.4 for vdimm.
Basically try using the highest mulitpliers...

Im able to run my memory with the 3.0 divider which gives 1200mhz with 5-5-4-7 timmings option 2.
So far im extremely dissapointed with my memory scores, 7660/7700 in sandra and 9000 read/7300 write/7800 copy/ 64.3 ns in everest

I was doing a hell of alot better with my asus 680i with cheap ocz gold pc6400@800 4-4-4-12 1t, was getting
7800/7900 sandra and 17200 read/7228 write/ 6937 copy/ 50.5ns

2 rigs with same memory/psu/etc. 1 is p35c-ds3r and 1 is p35-ds3r. also have 1 e6600 and 1 e6450. the p35c i had the 6600 in and couldn't get over 480-490 fsb, the p35 i had the 6450 and got to 520 stock straight out of box no prob. so i thought the fsb was better on the p35. put the 6600 in the p35 and same thing, now couldn't get over 480-490 fsb. so it seems it's the 6600 limiting fsb. so do i use the 6450 with higher fsb though lower multi or 6600 which has lower fsb but a 9 multi? i guess at this point the boards don't matter either way, just that the p35c has ddr3. any opinions would be appreciated

I am using F5B. It fixed a weird issue I was encountering with my overclock being reset on some cold boots, even though I've done 24hr+ of memtest and orthos. It happens very rarely now, about 5% of the time instead of 50%.Quote:

I just received mine yesterday (P35-DS3R) and was wondering how to check which bios version i have. Also was wondering how important it is for me to update the bios
When it first posts, it shows the bios version. Also, the mainboard tab of cpu-z shows the bios version.
i dont think it exists yet. Basically u know what. We have to stop all the overclock testing until a good bios comes out. And it will come out. the p965 series only became good on the F9 bios. I think the p35 will become good on like F6 or F7Quote:

tested vdimm with dmm, bios is overvolting by +.1
+.4 setting in bios is 2.3
+.5 in bios is 2.4
supposedly default is 1.8v so +.4 should be 2.2 and +.5 should be 2.3
this is on the p35, i'll test p35c later. let me know if this has already been posted for these boards.

the p35c is overvolting even more. same psu, +.5 gives 2.5v showing on the dmm.
Do any of you guys use Standby S3 mode in XP or Vista?
I seem to be having issues were the Computer won't wake up properly now and again, it just hangs when turned on. It's fine when clocked about 3GHz or lower (e4300 + P35-S3).
It's 24hr Orthos stable on the 3GHz+ clocks.
Anyone else having similar problems?
I have some stupid questions.......
I bought 4GB Mushkin XP PC2-6400 EPP memory and when I put it in an pressed the power button, the computer comes on for about 2 seconds, shuts off then turns on and boots....weird.
When I tried booting to windows, I kept getting BSODs. Now, this ram has printed on it 2.0v. Is the default setting for ram in the bios 1.8v? If so, if I use the DDR Overvolt bios setting and set it to 0.20+ v give me 2.0v? According to Everest my 2.5v setting is 2.0v and according to Easytune 5 it is set to 2.0v.
When I use CPU-Z it says my memory frequency is set to 533Mhz and my FSB:RAM is set to 1:2 with timings of 5-5-5-15. Isn't it supposed to be set to 4-4-3-10 @ 400MHz? How do i set it to do that? I don't want to kill my ram.

Ashm, sounds like it still might be an OS issue there... make sure you don't have a Readyboost device in the computer when you resume from standy if using Vista, it tends to slow down or crash it. I either hibernate or turn off my system, I don't use standby at all and never will anymore.

BIG PROBLEM DISCOVERED:
I have localized a big problem, If it is for me only or for others I don't know.
The error looks like:
If I try to set so that the memorys will work with a divider (eg. NOT [AUTO]) then everything is OK.
If I try to set the timings to any value (that my memory would work at) (eg. NOT [AUTO]) then everything is OK.
But I CAN NOT set both the timings AND divider to [MANUAL] at the same time. It does not matter if I
set one and then save/reboot and then set the other. They can not co-exist!
If I do so I will get the "endless reboot" AKA "Double Post" and the BIOS reverts back to default.
The conclusion is that I can not use settings like 400x9 and memory at 1:1 because then I would
be forced to use the SPD timings and running DDR-800 with 5-5-5-18 is not a blast when you have memorys good for 800 @ 3-3-3-8
So... what to do? You set the memory in a propriete divider (2:3) and let the timings be set to [AUTO].
Then you up the FSB until you hit a very high roof of the memory. I mean, if you are gonna run high you
would expect to en up with 5-5-5-18 anyway.

As you see I'm aware of the FSB strap at 417 so I stayed under that, with 1 MHz to spare :up:

at what fsb...
With E6600 at default (9x266) set it too 3.00 (266/2*3=400mhz) If you set FSB to 400 for example its 2.00 (1/1) and so on.

The tests were ran using SiSoft SANDRA and RAM was 1:1 to FSB. Timings were nothing special, just to make sure I didnt run out of space or need to jack up the voltage.
BIOS is F5F.
Can someone in the know confirm or deny that the strap is based on the FSB: RAM Multiplier, not the FSB?

So to sum it up.. on F3b BIOS at least, theres a strap change at say 340FSB, which makes the 3410-380FSB region a dead zone, apart from that, theres only multiplier changes to worry about.Quote:

Anybody have an idea as to why, since I have put the mushkin ram in, when I hit the power button, the machine powers up for a second or two, shuts down, then powers up fully and boots into windows?

I've had this cpu + ram (4x1gb) in an asus p5k before, running 400*8 cpu, memory at 1000mhz 4-4-4-8, and now it wont do 5-5-5-18 :/.
Should I be adjusting FSB/MCH voltage at 400mhz fsb? What are considered safe values for the FSB/MCH on this board? (Note, I had to take my backplate off to fit my watercooling).
And any point in flashing another bios? Board came with F3.

i really like the P35 board so i hipe that future bios fix the issues

just waitin for my 6850 to see how high i can go
i dont wanna go below 500 cause of major bandwith gain for me

//edit, fsb volt +0.1 mch volt +0.1 to test, and it now passes 3 prime blend tests, it crashed in less than 10 seconds without em. So it's the chipset having issues, not the memory. Still wondering how high those voltages can go before I start getting heat problems ;)

The HECI driver is nesscary when you enable Intel QST (Quiet System Technology) in bios, an uknown device will pop up in Device Manager and you'll need to load this driver.

HECI driver is dated 11th May 2007, WHQL. The Intel Matrix drivers have not been updated, still version 7.5.0.1017 but the Intel Matrix software has been updated...7.5.3.1001...damn!
Question: Some people here in Germany report start-up problems when running specific RAM-dividers.
The board is on start-up switching off and on again. What's the deal with that? Is there anything to overcome this issue?
Take out your bios battery for a while.. Most of the time something like 5 minutes works for me, but once it didn't, and leaving it out overnight worked :PQuote:

I have two power outs like this on my psu, one called CPU1 (2x2), the other called CPU2(also 2x2 obviusly). On the DQ6 I plug in CPU1, and the place where I could fit cpu2 is covered up by a black piece of plastic. uncover the other one and plug your cpu2 in there.
You have to remove that black piece of plastic and put cpu2 in.
