You running in winXP? seems that the marvel controler runs better in vista than XP...
I'm running in XP and hdtune burstrate also same with yours... but when i run in vista it becomes much higher scores... around 3k on HDDtach n 1xx on HDtune..

Hi there guys, I've just upgraded my disk system, so I thought I'd include a few screen shots :) Its IBM's 73Gb 15k SAS drives, 6 in Raid 0 on a Adaptec 5805 card :) I'm trying to find two more to make 8 :D
Anyways, here's some results:
PC Mark 05 HD Tests (Might try Vantage a bit later)

Ok, now try CrystalDiskMark with 1000MB ;)

More ssd drives did not help :(

Would you mind trying testing with the specs in the Intel IOmeter thread? I'm thinking you might be pleasantly surprised even if your peak numbers don't go up with more than five disks in this test, assuming the limitation is peak bandwidth and not amount of IOPs handled by a even bigger array or MB/sec of different queue depths @ 4k random writes.
The link to the thread I'm talking about
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=167857
I would personally love to see if the BW cap means anything at all in situations where you probably aren't bandwidth limited at all.
No bench - itīs real! :toast:

Here's a raid5 I just set up for storing files/backup images and digitizing my dvd/cd collection ,
areca 1222 and 8x WD 500gb Green Power drives.
http://i43.tinypic.com/288caj8.jpg
Also couple intel X25-M SSD's running on the onboard ich10 of my gaming rig. (no room for raid card w/ my tri-sli :( )
http://i42.tinypic.com/24oxcia.png
Summary: OCZ Vertexes in RAID-0 outperform WD Raptors in RAID-0 by a factor of four.
Both RAID block sizes are set to 128k, because the X38 onboard RAID controller doesn't allow larger sizes.
Pay close attention to the scale of the graphs. They are very different.
My first test was using HD Tach in compatibility mode. I like HD Tach, but it made me nervous to use it in compatibility mode.
Vertex Results:
http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...7/Vertexes.jpg
Raptor Results:
http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...77/Raptors.jpg
Then, I ran an Everest "read suite" test on both:
http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...tReadSuite.jpg
Finally, I did an HD Tune on both volumes using the default 64k chunk size (let me know if any of you want different chunk sizes tested; these can dramatically affect performance in RAID-0)
Vertex Results (notice the access times pegged at the bottom):
http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...4KVertexes.jpg
Raptor Results (not sure about the down-spike):
http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...64KRaptors.jpg
Finally, you can see that all of Vista with drivers installed leaves plenty of room for other stuff on the SSDs. Note that the Raptors are currently empty (perfect place for program files) and that I have a networked drive for all media/backup stuff in case my RAIDs die. Also, note the 80GB drive (e:\), whose sole function is to handle the pagefile.

Cant resist asking the following question.
From the M/B Specs that i Google found the following
In an effort to eventually get rid of the conventional IDE ATA standard, the X38 chipset removes IDE support altogether. Despite this, the Maximus Formula ships with a single IDE port thanks to the use of the JMicron JMB368 PATA controller. The ICH9R south bridge offers up to six Serial II ATA ports, boasting data transfer rates of up to 300MB/s. Intel also offers RAID functions for these four SATA ports, supporting RAID 0 for performance and RAID 1 for protection, along with RAID 5 and RAID10. Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) further boosts performance with Native Command Queuing (NCQ), and provides native hot plug for drive swaps.
Now
If the drives them selfs supporting 3Gb/s speed and the MotherBoard it self does the same, Why are is the speed result lower that that?
I know n00b question.. but here you have it.

http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/302...aldiskmark.jpg
Its a shame to think that I was hitting the motherboard limit of my adaptor card with 5 going on 6 which is a shame :( Hopefully my i7 setup might allow it to go a bit faster :)
Well I was thinking along those lines and then I managed to pick up 8 Seagate Cheetah 15k.5 73Gb drives for less than 4 SSD drives and to which I'll have a super fast 4 drive raid 0 setup, one for Windows and general stuff and the other for just games..
So not only will I have a fast enough disk access for any hard work I might come across, but I'll have performance that doesnt slow down or degrade after so many read/writes :)
The weird thing so far, with two 4 drive Raid 0 setups, I can manage a 900Mb/sec and more average read but even more interesting I tested them simultaneously which I was very impressed but shocked at at the same time :)

2 supertalent 32gb ssd, raid0 on ICH10R...
http://lakesidepc.com/hdd612.jpg
I'm quite pleased with these drives.
Yeah, they are extremely nice. I'm quite satisfied. I believe all the ultradrive ME models, which is what these ones are, have 64MB cache. The drives came with firmware 1370 but I flashed them to the 5-29 update I found at super talent site. I really was torn between the 32gb and 64gb models. I finally ended up rationalizing the 32's by deciding that if I really liked these 2, I'll add a third next month, and that's probably exactly what I'll do.
Does this count? Windows thinks it's a harddisk? :D

I had other stuff running but its good enough. If my mobo had a better controller you could probably add about 7% to this result. I'm also "only" using a SATA cable, not a "specific" SATA 2 cable. Is there even a difference beside the newer cables having a proper latching system?

Well, beyond the kind of expected usage, it depends on how long the TRIM support takes to become avaliable (unfortunaly only for G2 Postville drives), and the efficiency of the G2's firmware auto garbage algorithms.
Wathever, it's time to take a clean up (DBAN pass) to my SSD drive.
Here are my 3 drives, before I pulled the 74Gb Raptor out.

Whats funny is the Raid 0 doesn't help the 4K read. Whats up with that?
I guess they're limited in some other way, some other bottleneck?
Hey guys what a great thread, I just got my first SSD (Intel X25-M 80GB G2) and despite my best efforts its been difficult to get information about setup, OS optimizations, and other things like proper BIOS settings. Although I will be building my new setup on Tuesday (upgrading from current hardware to Asus Maximus III Formula, i7 860, and 4GB of DDR3) I wanted to install the drive on my current system to get some idea of its performance. Its been humbling reading through all the benchmark results, especially those SSD RAID 0 setups (the results are nothing short of amazing)! I would like to post my own benchmark results but I want to make sure I've got it working properly and to its full potential and I want to wait until I have my new setup finished.
With that all said guys I will have to reformat my HDD on Tuesday when I build up my new system and re-install Windows 7 64-bit. Will reformatting my SSD degrade performance in a noticeable way (or degrade its lifespan) and if so what should I do (mk dir mentioned a program called DBAN which I assume resets the SSD back to factory specs and fully erases everything)? I assumed my drive would support TRIM since its a G2 and I'm running Windows 7 but after reading through this thread it sounds like only these new "Postville" drives will support TRIM, is that true or will my G2 support that command under Windows 7?
Last but not least, when I installed Windows 7 a couple days ago (after getting the drive) I didn't make any partitions, I just used the entire drive. Is there any benefit to making a partition that is about 90% of the storage space (granted I'll loose out on some expensive storage space) but I read this is beneficial for some reason? In anycase guys thank you very much for all your help and support with my questions! Even though I spent the last week researching SSD drives I'm still a bit overwhelmed by the amount of information out there (it can be difficult to navigate through)!
