With those settings it cannot boot even with a dual core E8400.I used nb vtt and pll auto to run it stably.I will try tomorrow with the q9650 at auto(pll vtt nb) to see if it will boot.I want to ask you if the 1.03g rev is good.And also what bios to use?I already have the latest 2201.Is it ok?
Hello! I`m wondering,which bios is top at the moment for Asus P5Q Dlx?I have some problems with booting and the picture freezes sometimes on a NV GTX 275,and I assume,there is a bios issue...

I've got a P5Q deluxe + Q9650@4.23 GHz
I'm currently using the followings settings;
Vcore ; 1.29
Vfsb ; 1.28
CPU PLL : 1.52
GTLs CPU; 0.680 / 0.720
GTL NB : AUTO
As you can see I'm using high GTL. Is it risky?
I wouldn't like to use settings that could damage my CPU or my Mobo
Please any help would be appeciated.

GTLs are more of a fine-tuning thing mate. No cause for concern ;) That's quite a nice overclock you got there too :)

Unfortunately I don't understand why it so hard to get a higher FSB than 470MHz
Moreover even at 467MHz I can't use anything else than ratio 1:1. I though that with Gskill PI black 8500 I would be able to reach more than 1066 but no.
Have you manually set your memory timings (as listed in bios) and lowered PL, clock twister, and raised row refreshed cycle time to 50 or higher? Setting all these are crucial for overclocking memory. As for reaching higher FSB, tuning the NB GTL and the CPU/NB skews can also help a lot as well as the settings I just mentioned. If these fail you, fill out a template (available in earlier posts) and I'm sure people will be able to offer some better advice. 470+FSB can be quite hard to acheive in some scenarios, but again, it's hard to tell without knowing all your settings.

Suggestions are in bold. You might find even higher voltages may help you, but i'm trying to play it safe. My hunch is that CPU/NB skews need tuning. Also set all your auto memory timings to match the numbers listed above each of the 3 sections (except Row Refresh Cycle Time, keep that at ~55).
When trying to find which voltages are best, bump up one at a time and make notes about length of stability, and see which ones improve stability...

There is a sticky about GTLs at the top of the Intel section. That thread helped me out a lot. It's a good read.
If anything try a different PL. I run at a PL8 but if I try and run a PL 10 without changing anything else my board won't even post. Also there is no way that you need 1.3+ vNB. I don't even use that with 8gb of ram.
What is according to you (and according to Intel) the maximum but safe value for vnb on P45 for H24 usage?

I was suggesting those volts as a measure to ensure there were enough to rule out NB instability. With the NB GTLs and CPU/NB skews tuned, I actually need 1.28v to run 2 sticks of 1Gb reapers at the same FSB/PL as scharnhorst, but to run it stronger/PL7 I need 1.47v, so there is in fact a chance he might need more than that. You can't assume voltage/performance would scale the same for him as it does you..Quote:

The problem is that when I raise my vCore to very high for X8.5 (v1.36+) my computer become really unstable. Symptoms are
1. Random BSOD
2. Could run p95 small fft for hours and when I restart it can't even do 10 sec. (random)
3. When I could do the small fft test for hours, I couldn't even do 1 min blend,even though I didn't even touch my memory settings and voltages that were rock solid when I was doing 4Ghz on the cpu.
4. When I bring down my vCore and multi to X8, the memory becomes stable again.

you prolly need to up the FSB termination voltage to get anywhere above 4ghz , Note that this also changes the the way the GTL's need to be tweaked...
I would try to first get blend stable on 4Ghz...
First thing to check : does the rig survive Memtest 5 and 7 (via bootable Memtest CD) ?
If so enter windows and then run Blend... this needs to be at least a few hours stable... FYI small FFT only checks (mostly) just the CPU

due to the increased CPU speed it could be that the NB get's a harder time to keep it all together... usually upping FSB term voltage (influences CPU and NB reference votages) helps, but you need to tinker with the GTL values too then... I suggested the above to relax the stress on the NB ( looser ram settings etc) so it's easier to work from there...
For the FSB term voltage, it doesn't need to be specifically higher than the Vcore... I had one CPU that ran at 1.2FSB term voltage at 4Ghz with 1.3Vcore...
Also note that not all CPU's do 4.5Ghz stable (heat generated is the biggest culprit, and the temp readings on most Wolfdlae CPU's are way off or totally borked)...
Even if I increase the FSB ter voltage, wouldn't AUTO setting pretty much be fine? Also I thought NB GTL is based vNB not vFSB :O
If CPU GTL and NB GTL are both based on vFSB, can't I just increase the vNB like end of the day to get it stable?
Give it a go and report back... but monitor ya CPU temps !! could be you need over 1.45Vcore to get anywhere...
Make a bootable Memtest CD, test 5 and 7 have to run without errors before going into windows.
In windows always test CPU first ( I do custom 20-20K set and let that run for an hour or so ) then try Blend...

if your rams can't do 1200mhz forget 500FSB quad action daily on the P5Q series... Buy yourself a 9550 and you will have 4Ghz for sure... more is all luck: good CPU, High speed rams, Good mobo, PSU , Cooling etc....
Unless you are multitasking or ya apps support the extra cores, you will not feel much difference over ya OC'ed dual core...

I've been using the Swiftech Apogee GTZ (LGA775) Waterblock for some time on my rig so I would be confident the XT will also fit comfortably.
The Apogee XT is optimized for Intel® Core™ i5 and Core i7 processors though, although the back plate is currently not available. The socket 775 motherboard back-plate is not included with the block, but will be mailed upon request at no charge.
Unless you're thinking of going to i5 or i7 soon why not save yourself the hassle and get the GTZ?

Hi Lee, after I heard what u said about 500fsb that I shouldn't try 500fsb unless I have ram that can do 1200fsb, I changed my approach to increasing the fsb instead of just increasing the multi to hit 4.5ghz. I have to say that increasing little by little is A LOT easier than changing multi from x8 to x9
Now Im closer to my goal but I don't think my ram can handle higher fsb :O

I changed the fsb strap to 333 like you said and it helped. I also changed Row Refresh Cycle Time to 60 to stablize my ram(does this setting make my ram slower? I really don't know what RRCT does but I know that if I lower it, my ram becomes more stable.) I also tweaked CPU and NB skews. I also realized that Ai Clock Twister doesn't effect my ram's performance, so I changed it from strong to light.

Do you think I can go higher and drop my vCore? I see all these guys here who are getting 4.5ghz+ with 1.3 and I have E0 too! this makes me sad :( and I have the latest revision of p5q-e(A03) and latest official bios 2001. Haven't tried ket's bios but what do you think I should do to get that low vCore like others?
Also do I have to change CPU PLL at all? I find that it has absolutely no effect on stability or performance.
I only increase PLL when getting near 600FSB ad beyond... I suppose you are on a dual core Deaffob... that rule of thumb of the ram on a divider was for quad core action on this board... 540 Stable is already nice
Normally there should be a big loss in bandwith goign from Clock Twister Strong to Light ( I'm testing 625FSB on the REX , if I put moderate bandwith is near 7800Mb/s in Memtest, if i drop to Light it's only 7.4Mb/s
So do you have any suggestion that how i can lower my vCore? i wanna get something like 4.5ghz with 1.35 like many others on this forum :O oh btw I checked my memory bandwidth with everest and it didn't show any difference. You can enable SLI on the P5Q series if you use the hacked driver... works 95% fine on my Rampage Extreme... 4ghz should be doable, 4.2 might be pushing it, unless you get yaself good rams...
No matter what I do, I can't lower my vCore than 1.4 after 4.3ghz :( My cpu is E8400 E0. Is this normal or did I damage the chip?

Any ideas on the clock skews? I cant seem to get my blend prime stable. . its even IntelburnTest Maximum with 3102Mb RAM tested stable, but no blend testing. . freezes after about 4.5 hours.

Try CPU/NB skews of 100/200 then 300 then 400. I found that delaying the NB up to 300ps more than the CPU helped at around the same fsb. It was all about finding the most stable 'gap' between the 2 values, then moving them up and down together until you find your sweet spot. Good luck getting it stable - I had a lot of problems at those fsb on my q6600.

There are tons of settings like GTL, FSB term. etc. but I don't know how to use them. (I've been researching for 1 week but still can't understand exactly.)
Here is the situation;
I have a Q9650 running at 4.05ghz @ 1.25V without any problem, prime95 can run for hours and hours and hours in small fft mode but when I try large fft or blend mode, it crashes in ~1 hour max. So I thought this should be a mobo problem instead of CPU.
My settings are;

FSB: 450
DDR freq. : 901mhz (underclocked) @ 5-5-5-15 & rest is auto
CPU Voltage: 1.2500

can your rams do 1081mhz TiesTorn ? use the rams at that speed then, set GTL's to AUTO and try again. Also it's better to list the whole bios settings...

1081mhz is another story that I'll try it after stabilizing the nb..
I tried again with the same settings (only increased NB to 1.36V), it resisted 2 hours and then BSOD. (btw wtf is this BSOD means now? I always ended up with calculation error but this is the first time it gave me BSOD.)
on the bright side, it resisted 2 hours instead of 1 LOL !

Hmm.. I discovered IBT(intelburntest) for quick examination and after trying 2 hours I think I found the stable settings (as it says that my system is fully stable after 5 tests - standart and high) but I'm not %100 sure 'cuz I didn't try it with prime.
the settings I changed are;

NB : 1.32
NB GTL : 0.665
btw rest of the settings in that .doc file are useless information for this situation. I wrote down the important ones.

Just fill in the template man ! you say your CPU is small FFT stable, but fails under blend. Where does it fail in blend ? also ya ram (sub)timings and co can be responsible for this instabitility, it's not solely voltages or GTL settings...Also note that higher voltages are necessarily better This should a dead easy mobo to setup normally (it just likes many auto settings)

Set TRFC to 55, disable Static Read control. Reboot, test it, then try to adjust the PL's manually to get that little bit better performance... pretty high FSB termination voltage you need to run but each CPU/mobo/ram is different... Intel's safe setting is lower than what we most run here , so I wouldn't really bother at 1.36...
And I do think ya rams can go beyond 1066Mhz :p just try NB at 1.28 and FSB term at 1.34 and try to lower gradually...
and what do u think about he NB GTL voltage? I'm currenty using @ 0.665 but... any advice?
Try to set it at auto, same for CPU GTL's..; test again... (they are not real voltages anway)
These GTL's are directly linked to FSB Term voltage... eg I could run 450FSB with only 1.26FSB term voltage, 1.26 on the NB and PL9 (ram at 1081Mhz) you haev to take ya time for it, once you got i will be rewarding... but each mobo/CPU and RAM combo are different... there's no golden rule or golden setting...

So i did get one MB P5Q PRO and a MB P5Q PRO TURBO
I did install the PRO for me, and the Turbo, for the Rig of my father ( his old Nforce 2 did dy also ).
At this moment im running my Q6600 G0 at 3400MHZ.....but man, i have many dificulties to get this stable....

have you tried using load line calibration? also unless your using maximum volts LLC and pencil mod aren't really needed and have been proven to 'spike' voltages from full load much higher than without.Quote:

no mate usually it's the SB/HD which is trying to keep up the demand of data transfer... I've seen this too , especially when you go with high FSB, multitasking is far better on AMD and I5/7 rigs (some people will react on this for sure)... quad core to my knowing is absolutely not a solution...
So, quad core WOULD be a solution, but on an i5/i7 then.

I mount a new rig to my father:
Corsair 400wts power suply
CPU: E5300
Asus PQ5 PRO TURBO
RAM: My old Mushkins 2G ( D9 Micron ) boot at 2.1V:mad:
I start with a OEM memory stick....put ram V at 2.10...reboot
Mount the Mushkin...adjust all seting at my taste......and i did install XP.
Tested Prime 95 hours.....no problems.....stock temps at 32º:clap:
The problems:
Sometimes it gives me information OC failure on the BOOT....:eek:
Im quiete shure all settings are OK.....nothing from another world....
Even so.......F1.......F10.......and strangly, without any changes in Bios it reboots normaly:confused:
Now.....the Weird stuff.
2 days ago, i unplug inadvertly the electricity....with the PC on.
When i did reconet the electricity......the PC refuses to boot!:mad:
One boot, a second one and then stays forever on....without any signal.....
Again......i remove the Mushkin...insert the OEM module...and this time, i enter BIOS... - Nice i said!
2.10V ram.......F10........unplug and insert again the Mush...
But this time....whatever i do......i can reboot with Mushkin....
1 module.......-2-3 bios rebot, batery off, A1, B1...one module.........NOTHING!
So....i using a OEM memory with only 500MB:(:(
Today my father did call me that the PC is again making strange reboots....
Of course im frustated....since its my father new PC not working:(:(

EDIT: Geeez...nevermind. I'm an idiot. It's 1.3v and up that you guys have been setting it at, no 2.3v. Looking at so many different numbers and I think I got the CPU and DRAM settings mixed up in my head. Sorry.

I apologize in advance if this has been discussed before in this thread(there are 239 pages to go through and I'm just too lazy). I run a Q6600 on a P5Q Deluxe. Just got the board lately and the different voltage settings and all those things that "might enhance overclocking" are pretty new to me. I was wondering if anyone else is running a similar setup and what settings/voltages did they use for going 4.2ghz and above. I know every system is different but I'm guessing it's not going to differ too much when using the same cpu and board.
Before upgrading I was using a P5Q SE/R board, which got me running 3dmarks at 4052mhz(1.50v cpu, vdrop improvement enabled, 1.3v cpu vtt, sb and nb voltages maxed) and spi on 4185mhz. All done on air cooling.
Considering I could do that without any real settings for quads and limited voltages I am expecting to go much higher with the Deluxe.

I have been reading and learning on my own to slowly move this CPU up...
I am just proverbially dipping my toe in the water. I think I have a good chance of 3.8Ghz, 450fsb; but wouldn't hesitate to run it higher but I may need some proper pc8500 4Gb ram. I've got either 2x (or 4x) 1Gb crucial pc2-6400c4 (had some just like it at 1150Mhz ages ago), or 2x2Gb corsair xms6400c5 ver3.1 1.8v (possibly good for 472ddr +0.2-0.3v).
Also my +12v is 12.15v according to a DMM not as in speedfan.
Vcore goes from 1.224v load to 1.264v idle ( believe I'm lower than what the bios gave by default, I've been seeing 1.3v in everest for default.)

Testing 450fsb x 8.5 = 3.8Ghz now. I put the vcore up to 1.3v 2 notches higher. It didn't like when I moved the CPU ref multipliers for die 1 & 2 to x0.635 & x 0.675. I initially tested it in memtest (test #7), since I've not used 450fsb before. Was crashing at desktop and on starting orthos at lower vcore.
Edit: knocked the cpu down to 8 and found I needed to increase vNb to 1.14 for prime blend.
I am on shipping bios 2201 and board is produce of China.:up:
2nd core keep failing in prime when I put the multi back to 8.5 so I'm 1.325v now, tried putting the first die cpu ref to x0.635 and then clock skew cpu 400ps and nb 200ps but didn't help; or maybe I didn't try enough different values. Now error on first core 5min of prime. It is 1:30hr stable with x8 cpu multi or 425fsb x8.5. Is it wise to keep bumping up the vCore? Should I try something else first?
I changed the cpu Ref for first die (core 0 & 1) to x0.640 which did seem to make an improvement till prime disappeared off screen, so I bumped vCore up another notch 1 higher than 1.325v. Also I put vTT up a notch to 1.24v since from the sticky about how to set GTL ref, its involved. Am I doing ok?
The thing I am concerned about is 3.6Ghz with 1.3 but 3.8Ghz not stable with 1.34375v, is that normal?
Put your Vnb up, it can take a lot more you know. Try 1.36v and see how you fare ;)
It will do 425 with 1.12vNB and 450 with 1.14vNB. I am running 450 now with 8x multi. I was trying to run 450 x 8.5 but this is where it seemed to require alot more vcore for a small gain of 200Mhz. I'm going to try higher vTT and vNB since alot have it higher than me.

Photo24 was 1hr5 min prime stable. I had some settings which surpassed that (maybe pic 22) with lower vTT. However I am trying settings in photo25 now. Messing with GTL ref & PLL back to 1.52v.
3.6Ghz was really easy, needed only 1.14vNB, but now I think it is wise to tweak other settings rather than vCore alone. I have tested the FSB with lower multi already needless to say, so I'm going for adjustments which effect cpu stability.

First I lowered GTL ref for first core to x0.620
went from 1hr5 prime stable to 2hr48 prime stable (or unstable if u like)
Upped vcore from 1.34375v to 1.35v
increased stable time by 6min.
Tried x0.610 and right after I "tested" a register dump in core temp it errored on core 1 at 2min in.
Back to x0.620 and now testing pll 1.52->1.56v.
Its better with the 400fsb strap. Is there a problem with 1:1 with 2201 bios (second to latest and shipping bios for me).
Question you go stable from 1.14NB to 1.36 ? Or do you mean the rig just posted ? There's a big difference in voltage settings between the Asus and gigabyte boards, espeically for the NB.
I can't tell anything about 2201 bios , but the P5Q Dlx board was always easier to stabilise with anything than 1:1 divider ( works easy on the Gigas). Also more volts are not always better, this counts specially for the voltage sensitive NB. My bet is your CPU just needs a tad more Vcore to stabilise (it also fails on 20K which is pure CPU)... Why don't yo just run Prime custom 20-20K for CPU stability for a few hours and then go Blend later on. I always had good luck with 1.26-1.28 on the NB ( actively cooled ) and FSB term around 1.22-1.26 for FSB VTT. I always had loadline calibration enabled too, it really works well on the P5Q Dlx...

Easiest to get stable is to run not a 1:1 Divider, so you need high speed rams to get there. Requires some hefty FSB Term voltage and GTL tweaking to get there, but it's possible with this board... I don't test prime for 24 hours, waste of time, rig folds at home , if that is error free, I don't have to worry about 2D stability...

I am using 4 x 1Gb crucial ballistix 16FD5. D9GMH according to google. Other marking is CL1118F.CJ & other pair CL1118L.Z8. I RMA'ed my first set and bought another in the meantime. I wasn't happy with two installed so I bought some corsair twinx XMS 4Gb which I ran at stock for till now when I needed the ballistix again to run 5:6 divider on p5q deluxe with q9550.
Just FYI I paid £127.76 for the first set from komplett.co.uk 10/4/07 & £43.46 16/12/07 (december) from dabs.co.uk. I also paid £35.64 on 08/12/2008 for the 4Gb Corsair kit. It was June 09 when the price of DDR2 hit rock bottom.

Has anyone got big differences in bios set voltage and reported voltage? In the bios hardware monitor it show the vCore being set alot less than I selected and then with load line calibration off there is a 0.7v difference between selected and set volts.
I set 1.3825v bios for my q9550 and at in CPU-z it reports 1.35v idle and then load it goes to 1.30v.
It could work fine, at these volts until it starts rebooting spontaneously. I am trying to get 24/7 stable clocks.
I can't read the vCore with a multimeter since I don't know the measurement point, I know the points for other readings. With these 45nm chips they are not as tolerant to voltages as previous generations.
Which is correct, the bios setting or the reported voltage?
hi, can anybody confirm that they can set the multi of 6.5 for bios 2201?

Its stable now. I'll leave it like this so I can be sure but I think its got more in the tank. The load vcore is 1.3v for 3.825Ghz. I'll see what the temps look like when it gets hotter.
