few things going on between your scores and mine
1. E6600 B2 retail is around 12-20 seconds faster than E6600 B1 retail at same clocks
2. Intel 965P and thus P35 are clock for clock faster than 680i chipset i.e on 680i striker you need 9x400FSB 2:3 600mhz 5-3-3-5 tight sub timings to be close (not faster) than Intel 965P/P35 at 9x400FSB 2:3 600mhz 4-4-4-x
3. That time you comparing was run with largesystem cache off so 20 to 40 seconds slower than with largesystem cache on
if would be more valid comparison to compare with my retail B2 cpu with largesystem cache on

i'm gonna ask this question here again since eva2000 and some good overclockers are on to this thread:is it better to have high fsb like 7x400fsb to higher multi like 12x 266 fsb and what do i gave either way?
better performance with higher fsb or are they all the same?
i'd really like to understand this please!
ps:just want to justify ditching my striker for this board and i'm not going to be overclocking more than 3.2ghx because of the cooling type i have

high FSB better at same clock speeds on intel chipset..

i've found on 680i striker extreme dropping below default cpu multipler looses a bit in performance compared to higher cpu multiplier but in general higher fsb helps especially when it comes to better utilising higher mem clock bandwidth (especially on 680i striker extreme)

Eva, if I'm not mistaken these Crucial Ballistix are the first PC2-8500's that you've have tested on the P5K Deluxe. Do you have any other PC-8500's that you'll be testing?

Having already spent my allowance for the rest of the year, I've been considering which of these two that I'd buy unless there's something better in the PC-8500's.

yup first PC2-8500 memory i've tested but can see probably the best for 5-5-5-15 at least

A bit of information on Static Read Control and Transaction Booster. I did a real quick check of the memory performance number in memtest86+ with these. I won't list all my bios settings, as the absolute value of the result doesn't matter, just the trend.

4669-Static Read Control set to Auto or Enabled and Transaction Booster set to Auto ( same as disabled and level 0 I think)

4511-Static Read Control set to Disabled, Transaction Booster Enabled and level 1

4369-Static Read Control set to Disabled, Transactions Booster Auto

Thx 4 the extra info and taking ur time 2 reply. I'm actually selling off my Striker in about an hour and this will be my last post with my striker *sniff*. Oh well time 2 say hello 2 P5K.

P.S. My time was actually with large system cache off.

BTW do you know if an TR HR-05 will fit on this mobo with a TR Ultra 120 Extreme?

My P5K Deluxe has developed a major problem. I updated the BIOS from 0304 to 0307 but it failed with this error:

CMOS Checksum Bad

I've tried to flash back to 0304 and also 0123 that's on the DVD. Each time when I boot it stops on the boot screen with the above error.

I used ASUS EZ Flash 2 with a USB stick or the DVD. I've tried both BIOS versions several times.:mad:

Update:
I checked the online site where I bought this motherboard and the replace/repair RMA process looks like the route I'll take unless someone has a suggestion to fix this problem.

Update #2:
I tried the ASUS CrashFree BIOS 3 Utility using both the support DVD and my USB flash drive by copying the BIOS file from the support DVD. They both updated the BIOS but I still got the same error.

what teamgroup pc2-6400 ram you have 3-3-3-8 or 4-4-4- rated stuff ? it could be your team ram is spd to 3-3-3-8 but on clearing cmos the default lower vdimm isn't allowing you to get moving ?

you did try clearing cmos ? did the bios checksum appear after clearing cmos ?

maybe try putting in your crucial or only 1 stick of team memory in p5k deluxe for reflashing bios ?

did you update bios at stock speeds (not oc'd config) ?

I've got the 4-4-4 stuff! Last night before I went to bed I unplugged, moved the jumper and removed the battery. This morning I removed one stick of memory, moved the jumper back, installed the battery, plugged in the power and powered up. I was greeted with a screen that said the BIOS wasn't configured properly. That sure beats CMOS Checksum Bad. I reconfigured the BIOS to my default stock speed (the same as with the error) and rebooted. I got no error and was able to boot to the BIOS and load Windows. I reinstalled my memory and still no error. I'm going to cycle through booting to the BIOS and booting to Windows a few more times.

I'm back to the 0304 BIOS. I'm wondering if I should stretch my luck and flash 0307?

Yea something like that happened 2 my striker once got me all freaked out cuz i just got it back from rma after a month at that time.

They really like 2 fein death a lot of times.

i usually reflash my bios if i experience a bios checksum failure.. so reflash 0304 or tempt fate and go 0307 but with one stick of memory :)

I got my P5K Deluxe over the weekend and my Q6600 (with an Ultra 120 Extreme and Noctua NF12 fan) overclocks nicely to 3.5ghz on 1.425v. It sits ~45 idle and 65 on load. I still need to play around with it more to see how far I can push it. The AMI bios does a nice job of recovering from pushing it too far.

The only issue I've had with it is my ram. I have Mushkin 4GB HP2-6400 (rated 5-4-4) that just refuses to go past 440 FSB. It can do 440 at 4-3-3, but it just will not boot at anything higher. I can relax the timings to 5-5-5, set NB to 1.55, FSB voltage to 1.3, raise dimm voltage to 2.25v, but it just will not POST at anything above 440mhz. Any ideas?

Damn I was just about to order that same ram to go with my P5k deluxe. Try posting in the Mushkin support forums those guys will get back to you quick and keep us posted if you get it resolved.

I doubt it's the ram that's the problem. I'm thinking it might be the motherboard or perhaps the BIOS. If the ram was faulty then it's likely I'd be able to boot at a fsb above 450 with at least once stick. Both sticks being defective seems really unlikely. At least one of those should POST at a frequency higher than the other, but it seems like 440ish is the limit for both. I tried both sticks individually and I get the same results. Maybe I'll try another bank just to make sure the A1 ram slot isn't bad. I'll post the issue on mushkin forums too just in case.

So far , I can hit 490 fsb with my quadcore an 4x1GBb mushkin redlines so it shouldn't be the board.

My P5K Deluxe seems quiet, but my PCP&C Silencer 750 quad has started whining/squealing/hissing. I originally thought it was my video card or motherboard, but it's clearly coming from the power supply when loaded.

I got my board installed & my swiftech 6000 water block won't fit! Hits the caps....so I am on air till I can get a new water block. Good news is I am at 450fsb 1:1 2.1vddr 4-4-4-12 1.288 vcore on my E6300! This board rocks!!:party2:
