Where did you donwload the bios ?
I had a bad experience in the past with , not tested locations :D
I have this nice site may i take the try ?

RD1-PMC4 fits the Neo 2.
You can get them in the US here.
Europe here (they will also flash a chip for you)

This is a handy UK link for when it all goes wrong ;)
Wow, just like to share this info about ram slots. Seems when I changed
from Dimm 1 & 2 -DC (closest to Cpu) to Dimms 3 & 4 (farthest from Cpu)
my HTT increased by 240 to 265 without my DDR booster. VDimm is at 2.85V
tracking correctly, ram used is pc 3700 ocz gold.

I have lose timings so i can find the max for this mem. and then tighten them back, once I find a nice sweet spot for them. This screenie is without any Vdimm mod or DDR booster. Seemed my MSI never liked my BH-6 cause max.
I could achieve with my Mushkin Cas 222 Specials was 230 HTT :(
I'm trying dimm slots 3&4 with 2x512 ballistix 3200 at 10x230, CL2.5 2-2-10, 2.80vdimm now... will report later.
Eventually I am going to get some GSkill Pc4400LE this week, now that I have some extra funds for it :D .
I just wanted to test this MSI board first b4 I spend more money on other ram.
Currently at 267 mhz now making this post with the ocz 3700 gold @ 3-4-4-8
Nope... same thing happens even at dimms 3&4....
Could do 230fsb 1:1 at CL2.5 2-2-10 tho... strange because at 235 no matter what i do (tried loosening the timings, still nothing) prime shows up mem error at first minute.
Do you prefer more bandwidth over lower latencies.. ive done a fair bit of testing and the tighter timings yield better results coz of the on die mem controllerQuote:

I don´t know why that´s a mistery .
I will try some tccd , in a couple of days .

Whats the best ram for this mobo? im considering changing coz its holding me back something bad

Nice-To-Know-Facts:
- Boot with only 1 stick of ram. Some board come with bios 1.10 and that bios has an issue with dual channel,
which causes the system not wanting to post with 2 mem sticks installed.
- Cpu fan header must be connected, if not the pc could experience boot problems.
- VTT Tracks
- OCZ DDR-Booster works upto 4,0V
- Slots 1&2 are the ones nearer to the CPU and are dual channel, NOT 1&3.
Advised is to put your mem in slots 1&2 and your booster in slot 4.
Although some people are reaching higher HTT using slot 3&4.
- In order to get the AGP/PCI lock to work, you need to set the AGP freq. to 67. With newer bios (1.3 and newer) i might not be necessary anymore.
- Only the 2 SATA ports closest to the cpu (ports 3+4) have working locks.
- In the bios press and hold Shift+F2 and then press ALT+F3 to unlock "hidden" features within the BIOS.
It has a couple of neat things, namely a "overdrive" function that works on any ATi or Nvidia card.
- turn LDT down to 3x to do any kind of OCing. 4x seems to work aswell 'till ~255MHz HTT
- use your +/- key to change the HT instead of entering sub menu
- Most 939 CPU's do not like dual sided BH-5 mem
BH-5 in general seems to work best with bios 1.36 and newer.
- If anyone has trouble getting low temp readings with the K8N NEO2 downlaod the latest MBM5,
use the K8N NEO Plat mobo selection, click settings go to temps, click CPU,
and choose the first option for Winbond Diode 2.
- Kane:It seems that videocards overclock less with this motherboard, than with others. Will Disable ATI/Nvidia speedup help???
- Bios versions 1.2 and later, support winchesters fully
- Some people experienced problems with Antec Neopower and Truepower PSUs and also with PowerStream PSUs and by several others with those PSUs everything works just fine.
Bios 1.37 might help. Turning the PSU off after you shut down, seems to help aswell. (This deal could be a vidcard thing.)
- Dissable Agressive Timings in Cell Menu if you're going to overclock.
- Quantity of thermal compound on the NB is practically zero. Although it seems to differ, some had a lot, some practically nothing.
- Don't use the last PCI slot, it is meant for the WiFi card.
- The MAch II needs a new firmware to operate with this board firmware here
- NB HSF maintanance class :D
- taiwanese-NB's aren't that good clocker - they tend to lock up at ~ 260-270MHz 1:1, NBs produced in Korea can reach >300MHz.
Not really sure about that tho', issue may be more related to pre-0419 chipsets then site manufactured, as after-0419Taiwan NB's seem to go 300+ MHz aswell.
The Vdd mod seems to help for the taiwanese NB's to reach 300+ MHz.
To found out which version you have, you have to take the NB HSF off and take a peak.
- According to OnePageBook the newer boards, with S/N:K0411xxxxxx and S/N:K0410xxxxxx, seem to go harder and can do with lower voltage.
Also there seems to be no more problems with winchesters and Phase Change.
- There is only one revision of this board: rev 1.0
- the temps are known to be wrong on the neo2. Atleast on some boards. Others appear to give quite accurate temps.
- XL Pros Neo2 xp-90 combo is NO GO!!!
- the vcore of winchesters seems to undervolt about 0.1V, max 1.7V

I understand this board doesnt work well with ocz EB but what about PC3200 EL Platinum Rev2??
and is anyone running this setup?
All TCCD based Rams work fine on the Neo2! :)
awesome thanks :) im selling my EB for some of that Rev2 goodnessQuote:

Now I try using my PQI Turbo (which does 285 MHZ 2.5-3-3 with 2 sticks on DFI 754 and 300 MHZ with 1 stick) and SuperPI fails even at 220 MHZ never mind anything higher. I can boot at 260x10 with my FX55, but again SuperPI gives error straight away.Quote:

What do I do now ? This sucks
I see Antec True Power PSU's mentioned as being an issue above ... I have a 400 Watt True Power .... could this be the cause ?

Aggressive is either Disable or Manual right ? I'm 99 % sure I set it to Disable as per one of the first posts in this thread. Also disabled NV/ATI speedup. Used every sugested setting as per your summary Jack (great work BTW).
Don't think trying other RAM will help as it's double sided BH5. Maybe my OCZ3700EB will do better. I do have a 550 Watt Antec but that's powering my Mach2 setup so would be a mission to try. Don't think my 300 Watt Aopen PSU will cut it, but I guess I better try. :(

OK freaky stuff ! I got my PQI working and how ? I changed the CAS to 3. Now it does 289 MHz with 2.7 volts 3-3-3
And how much was the membandwidth performance sacrifice?
Well CAS latency has zero affect on Athlon64's luckily so it is not an issue. Bandwidth in Sandra is 7500. I also did 300 MHz but 3-4-4 sucked.
My OCZ3700EB did 237 MHz on this board as well.
Yea CAS isnt as important as it used to be. BTW Nice clocks Sheik :toast:Quote:

Thanks :toast:
Well I hope to get my FX55 in the Mach2 soon as well so it is looking like 2.9 GHz 1:1 (PQI failed SuperPI at 295 MHZ) but I would have prefered 300 - 310 MHz x10 which seems the average FX55 + Mach2 OC. I love this RAM :)
What do you think about that gskill stuff ?
Well it was a toss up between the GSkill and the PQI, but as neither are available locally and I had to import, the PQI won as my regular supplier did not stock the GSkill otherwise I might have gone with it. My PQI is doing exactly what I wanted though so I have no complaints.
Good to hear. I can get the PQI from a store close to me.
Thats an awesome oc with EB, considering its not rated highly for this board. i cant get passed 220mhz.. im changing to some tccd ram.. ocz 3200 rev2Quote:

Well I read a review the other day of this MSI (can't remember where) but they used OCZ3700EB and got 240 - 250 MHz. Some sticks of EB are definitely better than others. Both my sticks max out at 260 MHz in single channel.Quote:

One of the boards made it into BIOS twice, once into Windows and died
Another one was doing fine for 1 day - and after that it was BSODing all over the place
The other one was simply DOA
And (just about last week) I ordered one for myself, which was a mess too.
This is so frustrating - I tried just about anything....(and I was using only really nice components - like the OCZ 420W PSU for example)
I was the one proposing to use the MSI instead of the ASUS to them, since those customers like to overclock and are willing to buy RAM and other stuff (from me :D ). Now I'm sitting here with those three ducks in front of me and have to figure out a solution.
It seems as if the people who are getting a decent one might be happy with em, but this is definitely the last time I ever proposed to someone to buy an MSI-Motherboard. Their Quality Department must be sleeping or taking some pills :stick:
Anyway, just my 2 cents
I have no problems whatsoever, only problem I have is that I have a not-so-good cpu stepping I'm afraid, 0441 TPAW, it does 2.7ghz PiFast @ 1.74v @ highly unstable :D
The board doesn't give me any headaches :)
just built my new rig msi k8n neo2 plat, athlon64 3800+, 2x512mb ocz pc4400 ram, gainward gt6800 gs card, audigy 2zs , samsung spinpoint 120gbx2 raid 0. antec p160 tower, samsung 1x dvd dual layer DVD rewriter

using stock cooler on cpu and arctic cooler 5 on graphics system temp 34c
is this best i can go on stock cooler or could i push it further?
any help appreciated
Well if the temps don't go through the roof you can bump up the voltage and try 2700Mhz or so... :)
Since my EB doesnt perform well on this mobo i was going to get some ocz 3200 rev2 tccd but that is out of stock nationwide for another couple of weeks! :(
i can get anything corsair or geil.. i was looking at corsair pc3200 Xtra Low Latency 2-2-2-5
EDIT: after reading through the thread "Memory that works well with MSI Neo2 Plat." and judging by these 2 posts it looks like i might be best to get 2x512 Geil PC3200 Ultra X TCCD

hrm, i can't seem to install xp on my setup. i have a neo2 with bios 1.2, using 2 barracudas in raid 0 on sata3/4. and my dvd burner on ide1.

MSI support is horrible just thought id let you people know.
I filled out the online tech support form and no replies for 2 weeks
So I call them up when my pc was not booting up when I first got it and they said they think it might be something bios related and they will send me a new bios chip, and its been 1 month and no bios chip... If i hadnt fixed my problem id still be waiting on this chip...
Anyone using a Vapo PE on these Winnies?
I'm about to resurrect my "leaky" Vapo PE with the AMD64 kit & am wondering whether I'll have any issues with it like others have had when using phase-change.
With my 3GHz P4 @ 4.2GHz, I was seeing -12c on the CPU @ idle @ 12c @ full load, according to MBM5.3.7.1...
ChillControl rev2 was reporting that my Evap's temps were -31c @ idle & -18c under load.
Just asking as I wanna keep the Vapo PE on a 3200+ Winnie rather than a 3500+ NC....
Both do the same clocks, just the NC cost me an extra 100 odd bucks (Aussie dollars)...
Cheers,
Minnyboy

Try bios v141, it should fix the subzero temp issues.

OK this MSI is doing OK.
wow 315 mhz! i have pqi turbo as well, i can't get past 250 mhz
what bios are you running and how much voltage to the ram? i'm using 1.41, i just flashed from 1.2 straight to that one.
i only have a 3200+ winchester though. i wouldn't mind hitting 275 mhz or something.

Unfortunately it just gets through SuperPI. I almost made it throught Aquamark. Does run all benchamarks at 286x11 @ 3-3-3 which gives me best results. Aquamark is sitting at 89462 but server seems to be down at moment.
LDT = 3
BIOS 1.41
VCore 1.55 + 8.3 %
Memory = 2.75 Volts
I had problems running CAS 2.5 @ 200 MHz even . Changing to CAS3 solved that. This board and this memory absolutely rocks !!!
what is LDT?
i'm going to have to try different timings and keep playing around... though 250 MHz is decent.
Just measured VDimm and saw .025 undervolting
On the other hand, I'm only running my TCCD and 2.55V @ 260x10 (at least in memtest/goldmemory) :D Might have some headroom.
Just beginning to aquaint the 3500 / gskill w/ prime, should be 'interesting'
Fantastic clocks on that vcore :toast: What kinda temps is the MachII showing on the LCD under load ??Quote:

Next I want to go back to an older BIOS to give me the +18% option as I can boot at 3.2 GHz but cannot get through SuperPI. I just wish it was winter again now :(
BTW I've had no issues with Mach2 / MSI K8N Neo2 at all. Not using updated firmware or anything. I do have temp problems. I heard the newest version of MBM was supposed to work here, but it just reads 40'C the whole time.
Same here MSI BIOS reports 40c, Mach2 GT LCD reports -52c. I think most A64 mobos have temp reading problems :)

Hi guys :) me again.
I had the "False start" bug with my first Neo2, so I sent it to RMA. Two weeks later, my second Neo2 arrived, although have the same issue. danm! I can't believe my luck!.
However, the Neo2 is the better 939 board on market IMHO I think it worths to test it once again.
A few days ago, my 3rd Neo2 arrived, wish me Luck!
I'll try the 1.41Beta BIOS :)
Gentlemen, I'm glad to confirm that the "False Start bug" is CORRECTED with the 1.41Beta BIOS.
So far, two buggy MoBos (September batch) are fixed through this BIOS update
:toast: :toast:
Now, let's apply some thermal compound to the NB, and then OC this baby :D
nevermind :P, just ONE is OK, the other don't pass the test, False Starts still there. 50-50 :P

peace perc,
i just tried testing dimm1/2 vs dimm3/4 and i can confirm that 1/2 are more stable, memtest failed in 3/4 with the exact same settings that passed 1/2 :P
When i had my memory on dimm3&4 after running prime95 for a while the pc was rebooting by itself...
Dimms1&2 work best for me.
That's OK guys :D
Just remember, the manual says that Double Sided Modules works better on DIMM Slots 1&2 :)
how can i find out if my module is double sided, if it has a heatspreader on it?
Will the Thermalright XP-90 fit this board? I realze, due to the placement of the DIMM slots and, hence, the proximity of the socket to the AGP slot, that the 120 is out of the question.
But with the XP-90's off-center raised over hang, will this desirable cooler fit?
Anybody using one of the Neo2?
serlv, yup it fits perfectly fine :)
http://www.chris.silent-sceptiks.com/a643.jpg
That's right, just dont combo with XL Pros, those Modules are higher.
:)
A little tip: If you cannot raise the vcore in BIOS (in case of me, only get 1.6V max @ BIOS), you can do it with Core Center. Simply install the Core Center, run it, then increase the vcore in step 0.05V . Remember to quit Core Center after finish your work or your system will be unstable.
not only does it fit fine on the msi k8n neo2 plat, but the overhang on the xp-90 cools dimm slots 1&2 perfectly.
anyone have any ideas of how I can oc higher? see my post above thx
