First attempt, I will try to get more later. I hate my temps right now but that's what I get for living in the tropics.:)
Scooby:up:
I'm running my E8600 Q820A747 24/7 9,5x422@1,250V (sorry, no Prime screen).
I tried max clocks with aircooling on my TPower:

Nice results there TheGanG, i must admit though i find the Vcore shown, a bit disturbing for the clock
Would love to see Aegis panel included, prolly messed up readout, otherwise amasing CPU :p but pretty hard to believe 4.9ghz at 1.12 and only 4Ghz at 1Volt...
CPU-Z (with my Blackops) has a "showing correct voltage values" issue
It should be a bug, dunno
http://img174.imageshack.us/img174/3...qqqqqqqaz5.jpg
I had the same issues with the MARS, but there even the multiplier/FSB was messed up (also in the Aegis panel) if I used one other than the stock one... the beta biosses ( and for me better clockers) were all plagued by it, most of the final release ones were reading the multi/FSB fine... Striker Extreme also has bogus readouts with loads of software...

I realize I am coming in real late but I need some help. Just got this E8600 yesterday cranked it to 10X400 at stock volts and it came right up stable. Then my problems began. I am at 416X10 stable but no matter what I do with volts it won't even post at 420? I tried all the usual including dropping the multiplier and raising the fsb and it still won't post beyond 420 fsb? I have been overclocking for years and never seen a wall like this. Stable and reasonable temps up to 416X10 (max temp under water 52C) but a complete no go at 420? No voltage increase to NB or CPU can get past that. I am at 1.232V now. I gave it 1.45 just to try to post at 420X10 and it's a no go. Tried underclocking my ram and still nothing. My ram is good up to 1140.
This CPU will Orthos for hours at 416X10 but not even post with or without increased voltage at 420X10. Yes, I tried bumping the NB no go. NB temps are reasonable so this is not a temperature problem.
Any suggestions you experts have would be helpful. I might have missed something simple in a bios setting but I really don't get the absolute no post right at 420. Yea, I did try going beyond to see if I had some sort of hole there but that was also a no go? Help?
I would hate to come to the conclusion that this P5E can't cut it. Yes, I do have the latest bios. If you have ever taken apart a water build you know what I mean.
Asus P5E, 4gig PC8500, Thermaltake 850 power supply, ATI 4879X2
Sorry, since this is a topic on overclocking the new E8600 I thought I was in the right place. Anyway, I have discovered the problem but I have no idea how to resolve it. It only wants to go higher with a 5/4 memory divider. My PC8500 will only run stable up to 1140 so 420-425 is about max with that divider. I will post all my settings later today but I know it is a memory divider issue. Probably a simple fix if I knew how to find the workable dividers? I don't really want to push the memory any harder and I would like to run it at or around its rated 1066 speed.
It will run Orthos for hours at 420X10 on a 5/4 divider which means my memory will do a decent stable overclock. Change the divider and it won't boot?
I had no problems with the e8600 and 4/5 with this p5e, the gskill & bios 0903. With 420fsb and 4/5 the ram will be at 1050mhz, but if your ram is good up to 1140mhz you can go up to 456fsb with any multiplier to match max ram speed with 4/5 divider and 266strap. In any case you can also try with 1:1 or 5/6 with 333strap or 1:1 and 3/4 divider with 400strap. The problem of no post could be also the bios settings of dram static read control, ai clock twister or transaction booster, how do you have them configured?
Hi all!
I recently bought the EP45 Extreme along with the E8600 CPU. I have serious problems with my overclock.
I cannot get 500FSB x 10 mult. The highest I have gone is 4.7GHz (523*9) after that the computer almost does not start (I can see the system restart several times even before reahing the BIOS screen). Nothing over 523FSB works... I tried 523*10 but no luck...
I have tried increasing the FSB, lower it, change the multipel, Vcore, MCH core and some other voltage tweaks in BIOS.
My system: EP45 Extreme with water cooling.
F7 bios. 4GB PC8500 (1066MHz)
E8600 CPU. (water cooled)
Nvidia 8800GTS (512mb) - also tested with ATI 3850.
I appreciate any help and hints!
If you tried all possible combinations it might be a BIOS story, but I'm risking myself telling this to you as I don't know that Board. I know it takes 650+ on air as it seems. And E8600 are also easy on fsb.
667 on air with F2 & F3. But F4b seems very good too for max fsb.
I'm sorry these BIOSes are for EP45"T" mobo :(
it has no place here but stil it might motivate you to push it harder, it can't be THAT different i think: http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=415921 BIOS F2 & F3 buton "T" version of EP45
I missquoted the ratio. I am at 560 (1120) at 3/4 ratio according to CPUz. As you know this bios gives the choices in ram speed rather than ratios. The fsb strap is set to Auto.
Static read Control - Enabled
AI Clock Twister-Light (I tried moderate and strong)
Transaction Booster- Enabled
Thanks for the help. Its nice to have someone with the same board help. I really wanted to get this to 4.5gig which should not be too difficult with water cooling.
This settings seems fine, unless you should be able to use “strong” with that divider and fsb I´m not sure why yours e8600 can´t go higher. If it helps this are the settings I use for the 3/4 divider and the e8600 at 4260mhz:
10*426
400strap
ram 1136mhz
dram static read control: enabled
ai clock twister: strong
transaction booster: enabled
relax level: 0
nb: 1,33v
http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/2106/426cf5.jpg
The max fsb this cpu reach with this p5e is 467 at 4200mhz with those settings:
9*467
333strap
ram 1120mhz
dram static read control: disabled
ai clock twister: strong
transaction booster: disabled
relax level: 0
nb: 1,65v
http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/8312/467yw0.jpg
Note that I have only two sticks, if you have 4 the limit could be aprox 450fsb.
Thanks you solved my problem. I disabled Transaction Booster and the all is well. I can now go up to 10X440 with a 333 fsb strap. I can go much farther but it require too much Vcore for my taste. We have the identical settings but my Vcore is higher at 4.4 gig. Yes, I do have 4 1gig sticks.
Thanks for the help! I tested to lower the CPU to 7X and then I could run 540FSB (1080 memory) but not more.
I guess my 1066MHz memory does not work at higher speed. Maybe a volt increasement to 2.2V would help...
But could my E8600 be defective? It does not respond better to a volt increasement. Higher then 1.5V is a no no!
Still 540x10 or 540x9.5 or 540x9 would be better then my 7x now...
What is the voltage requirement for your CPU at 7X ? if it's already pretty high... you can be sure it will need 1.5 and more for those speeds you want, your watercooling prolly doesn't cut it...(what are ya temps ?) And it still could be a bios flaw or setting you overlooked...
why don't you use 500FSB and try to stabilize 8X... then 8.5 and hopefully 9 multi stable... more prolly needs advanced cooling
I keep my voltage at standard for the 7X, I think it's 1.25V, but I am not 100% sure..(at work now)
8.5 and 9 does not work. 8 works too. It's strange that my water cooling system does not do the work. I have 30 degrees on my NB and 45 on CPU. I have seen people getting 10x500 with air so I am very dissapointed on either the water cooling or the CPU.
I will try vFSB higer voltage tonight.
"P.S: And it is very risky to let your Vcore above 1.3 in everyday use."
I think not so risky....several folks have mentioned vCore 1.4v as the level to stay away from as well as higher vFSB (1.24+) for EO stepping dual core.
expensive? e8400 is your choice :D

Today I got my Q820A606. For now nothing special, but not to bat either (first run- 4.5 at 1.4V real, stable (Im sure Ill get it bit higher too) I can do 3Dmark01 on 4650 at 1.4V, and the price 180€ was great, so im happy;)
What are your max 3dmark clocks on safe voltages?
some chips can only run said vcore if the temp given to the core is so and soQuote:
But could my E8600 be defective? It does not respond better to a volt increasement. Higher then 1.5V is a no no!
Ive used many e8600's some will not even take 1.4v on air cooling 'as in set higher and it will no post/shut down' but when these chips have touched ln2 the colder the pot got the higher the vcore i could add
so becasue the chip/board doesnt work on air/water doesnt mean its bad if you need more than 1.5v I hope oyur tring to run subzero, but defective chip no way defective would be 333x10@1.1v not working ;)
hope this helps
These will be my 24/7 GAMING system settings.

Anyone finding with these chips you'll get a BSOD with a Machine_Exception_Check?
Mine is stable at 4.6ghz but anything past that and I start getting those MEC BSODs.
quick question just picked up a E8600 E0 whats highest safest volts for air (Tuniq Tower) to go? staying under 1.4v? going to be for a friend so im overclocking for him :)

If I have a stuck senor is that grounds for RMA?
And who do I return it to, PC store or Intel.
Store policy is 90 days first 15 direct replacement, missed the first 15 deadline but I'm well within 90 days.
One of my cores is stuck at 37 but when above this it works and this has happened on two of my e8600 but they are both good overclockers so im gonna keep mine.

Here is my 24/7 on AIR. Q820A405. I know a lot of you will say this is too much voltage and heat for 24/7 use.... but we'll see. 1.44 in bios, 1.46v windows. Max temp during 19hours of small FFT was 76c. During gaming i may hit 55c tops. Idle at low to mid 30s.

Low vid chips usually run hotter. I'm sure you've checked the seating? Otherwise, reseat the cooler and make sure there is good contact; also, is the ihs concave, convex?
zucker is right like the e8500s the ones that take low volts to run high cpu speed run hot
i want to get the e8600, but dont know what the best mb is to get?
i wont be running SLI, any recommendations? i wanna OC!!
Get the new p45 mobo from Gigabyte, the UD3P, cheap and fast.
So true!
I got nice example just running here :D

does anyone know if there will be a higher binned dual core than e8600 later on? perhaps e8700?
Any idea on Q820A4x4 with 11 being the last 2 number from wafer code??
Q823A234, not really a steller performer, at least not was I was hoping for, picked this up at Newegg. I'm gonna exchange it and see if I get lucky. I thought I might have some stability at this speed, but after 16minutes of Orthos, it restarted my comp. Maybe its my mobo, my board doesnt officially support the E0s yet.
I picked up two e8600's from Newegg in the last 3 weeks, batches q820 and q822, and both have VID's of 1.25. Still testing both, but it looks like 4.0 GHz will require about 1.38 vcore (everest idle measurement) for stability, and 4.25 GHz will need at least a vcore of 1.41. I'm afraid to even venture a guess what 4.5GHz would need. Needless to say, these were not the vcore requirements I was hoping for (I have an old e8400 running perfectly stable at 4.0 GHz at 1.38vcore). I will say, however, that they do run cool- at 1.39vcore the core temps barely exceed 50c under the heaviest Prime or OCCT load with air cooling (TRUE120 w/ push pull fans).

Post #547, some more info and different voltages in E8600 5ghz superPI 32M threat...
I must admit I haven't noticed that you are on nvidia chipset:D
I must dissagree about motherboard! Anything over 415FSB was so unstable it was inpossible for 24/7 ussage. Now I have the second one, and its worse (can't boot at 375FSB) so now I'm waiting for gigabyte with A3 P45 NB), but I will have to wait some more (lets say Slovenian sellers are not the fastest one:mad:)

I swapped recently (actually 2 days ago) my E8400 for a new E8600 E0 Q822* and i can run it stable (linpack, orthos, prime95 all good) at 4500Mhz with 1.3500v in BIOS (1.336 CPU-Z). My E8400 needed 1.4500v BIOS and 1.44v CPU-Z for stability at only 4050Mhz. All of this on a P5Q Deluxe motherboard (can't help thanking leeghoofd once again for BIOS settings help).
Here are some screenshots of the setup, i want to test with less voltage, see where it starts to crash:

^^ 1.35 for 4.5....nice chip NaMcO...mine scales about 300 mhz behind yours.
My E8600 is middle of the road ...4.2 (9x467) at 1.328v (cpuz) 12hrs prime and linpack 75 stable, 4.3 w/1.36v, 4.4 w/1.4v. I should have needed ~1.62v for 5 ghz (just superpi stable), based on scaling at 4.9 to boot windows...but crappy GB bios jumps from 1.6 to 1.65...easily booted and ran superpi at 5ghz 1.65v...so only benched for few minutes.

I'm using the Asus MIIF and watercooling the cpu, with a gigabyte EP45-U3DP coming soon. I've been able to get both chips to 4 ghz (450x9) orthos 12 hr blend stable (usually what I like to see before I game with a specific setting) with 1.38vcore according to everest at idle- any less vcore and either chip will crap out with errors before my arbitrary 12 hr standard of stability. I'm currently trying to get one of the chips to 4.4 ghz (490x9) stable, and I'm still throwing orthos rounding errors at under 1 hr using up to 1.43ish vcore- but I'm going to play with other setting like the gtl's to make sure I really need all that vcore. Both chips have a VID of 1.25. And heat has not yet been a limiting factor, as even at 1.43 vcore I have yet to exceed 55C with either core while orthos is running.
Nice going rge... I found the lowest voltage i can set on mine is 1.3250 BIOS which turns out to be 1.31v in CPU-Z. I tried 1.28v, 1.29v and it BSODs on me when i push it so i set it to 1.31v for "insurance" ;)
These are all settings for my goal 24/7: 4500Mhz.

Well, this is XS right? :) If i only had Ln2 :) and RE board, i would push this baby till its bleeding :) seems like a pretty good canditate for ln2 though..
just by using cold air i raised my maclock from 5186 to 5300 so -100 would do some serious damage :P 1.78 aint that high i think.. used it for shirt session only.
cores were way below 30c idle i idle and about 32c in 22c room, sensors are stuck and 31 and 36 and wont go lower, but they didnt move in idle mode, about 43c in prime at 1.42.
