does anybody know - is there any bios available to get the hd 3850 higher than 857mhz?

Hotfix + cat 7.10 works great in crysis (crossfire and Windows XP ) , only dont work with Vista (only in Crysis) , with XP no prblems at all in every games
of coruse , you have to instal the Hotfix + catalyst driver , not only the hotfix
Thanks for the info Mascaras, all i have to do is install the Catalyst Driver THEN the Hotfix, or the other way around, or combine them before installing? please explain, thank you.
the hot fix is a driver, so you just install the hotfix and it installs the driver
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads...Hotfix_XP.html
There's a driver that was released after this Hotfix, which worked better for most games than that one, but doesn't have the Crysis Hotfix, that's the problem.
The newer driver's version is 7.11, which fixes CF problems and other bugs, so i can only install either, but need the fixes in both of them!
This is with the ATI.HD3870.512.071102 bios from TechPowerUp? Bios version is now 010.071.000.000. I flashed both cards with this bios and they both booted up at default settings 777MHz and 1126MHz. Also, 3Dm06 crashes at Firefly Forest when past 860 on the core. I'm currently running 860/1276 with ccc overdrive.
Can you give me a link to the proper bios or should I be using the HD3870_PLLVCO_v010.071.zip?
Ok guys, same problem like most of you guys here.
HIS HD3870
I get up to 860mhz on the Core easy to 2600 on the memory i haven't tried more yet.
I did flash the new "fixed" bios but it still doesn't seem to go any higher. I assume like most of you its a Voltage Problem. Is there any tool what i can use to raise the Voltage or is there an up todate Bios Editor where i can do this with ?
I really want to make sure its worth it before I throw some watercooling on this baby.
I think 7.11 its older than Hotfix (was released after hotfix but the release notes date are older)
I have the Cat 7.10 from CD and then i installed the Hotfix
after flash the clocks are the same (777/1125) the only difference is that you can go higher than 860mhz
the new bios is the one on first post of thread ( HD3870_PLLVCO_v010.071.zip )
Ok i used winflash 2.0.0.2 http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads...h_2.0.0.2.html
and bios http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/1...12.071102.html.
I had the lockup at 862MHz on core.
With this bios i do not have this anymore but every test i did over 862 MHz just freezes 3d.
Maybe is temperature issue maybe not. I will have further tests on it.
I cannot see any difference in fan i think it works the same way.
855/1321 is stable enough for me with stock HSF
i flashed my Two HD3870 10 minuts ago
original bios with 865mhz rivatuner >> freeze system
new bios i test with 885mhz >> no problem (didnt try more)
which bios are you guys using? i've only tried the techpowerup bios and not the one in the OP of this thread. i'll try that one in the morning, right now sleep. wish me luck :).
I think they are the same.
Just post any differences for the two bioses you mentioned if any.
GeCube OC bios for 3870 is now posted........ who's gonna try it first? :)
http://www.mvktech.net/index.php?opt...filecatid=2343
The folks on Techpowerup state the bios has less (1.25v) than the standard 1.3 of the normal bios. Don't know how accurate that is. In any case I don't know if this is a more mature bios than the Ref bios with the overclock limit which is why I posted it.
It gave me a subsystems ID mismatch when I tried to load it using winflash.
same here..
Looks like the size is only 61kb on the GeCube Bios.
What i really could need is a bios editor, i m sadly see the last Version of RaBit is older then old on the other hand looks like NiBiTor the NV Bios Editor brings out new Versions when ever a new Card hits the market.
I don't mind the performance of the HD3870 what really bugs me is that we can't test the limits. I don't believe that 860 is the highest or 900 for that matter. I would like to fool around with the card but been limited since there is no resources out.
ATi Tool is behind and there is no telling if there ever will be a Version which works fine with this Card and can actually adjust the Voltage and RaBit is as dead as it can be. In the end i really wonder if i wasn't better off getting a NVidia Card at least they have resources to work on the card....
Well we already know that these cards can do 1200Mhz on the core based on what Shamino has done. Being a person who enjoyed the flexibility of the X1900 series cards, I'm frustrated that we don't have the same voltage control yet. I'm hoping one of these new Turbo/OC cards will have a different bios with a little more voltage.
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=5647348
Took the ram sinks off. didn't help clocking but it seems a bit more stable. 900 core is no go. 1325 mem is no go. Tried to get a bit higher a score with more CPU speed but the cards seemed to throttle, only 68k.
LOD +9
On a side note, my maximus formula needs to run PL 10 to do 500 fsb
"Crysis" will run fine in Vista with Crossfire if you use the DX 9 path, just select it from the drop down menu in the games folder after you click the icon. On the DX 10 path it simply doesn't work. Then again you don't need the DX-10 path unless you want to select very high settings. Most folks can't deal with too many of those selected beyond 1280x or 1440x. I find Texture, Object, Shader, and Water on high, with the rest on medium looks good and plays well. I made a large post here showing HD 3850 Crossfire working in "Crysis" with Vista x64.

I also showed results @ 1680x in the linked post as well.
so, which bios is best for sapphire HD3870?
The one at techpower is ok try it.
I can't recommend any Bios just yet. It seem the one from TechpowerUP is supose to fix the a few things but since this doesn't work for me and I get the same results than i had before flashing the bios, i really don't know.
Its surely worth a shot to try though.
im using the bios in this thread (1st post) with my 2x HD3870 and works OK !
with stok bios if i set 865mhz the system freezes , when i flashed with the bios in this thread i tested 885mhz and no problem at all (didnt try more)

6400+ @ def, mem @ def (1066mhz/5-5-5-15)
flashed with bios from inq site.
904mhz gpu is fine for 3dmark03 but gives me vpu recover in 05.
the funny thing is that crysis timedemo gave me 11fps more compared to stock bios.. same clocks, it just is 11fps faster:D
flashed in win, didint uninstall or reinstall drivers..
I'm using BETA which is managing FAN speeds properly. It keeps temps at 60C for both cards and still is quiet :) . No problem with above 860MHz core as well;) .
no, defaults are 777/1125 like normal bios
Same goes for HD3850 too...
HD3850 256MB (with board 102-B34003)
HD3850 PLL VCO Fixed Bios v010.071
Bios source updated from 10.67 to 10.71...
PLL divider algorithm updated (Engine clock limit fixed)...
Plus other irrelevant technical mambo jambo...
Use ATIFlash with force switch (atiflash -p -f X filename.ext) X = adapter number.
Have fun.
Aye aye :D
Plz do not confuse the bioses.
They are all Ver 010.071
If i look around the only way to get the volts higher is with Hardmod or not?
My 3870's are running now 901/1276
But i want to push them higher someone got a idee?
I flashed the first HD3870 with that bios , reboot and black screen when enter windows
i had to switch card to second slot and boot with the other card in first slot , enter windows and flash back the other card with Bios in 2st post of this thread
dont want try again .........
thnks anyway
Vmod by largon

Thnx so i got to buy a few Vr's
:)
<3 x infinity!!!! thanx alot. :D only bad thing is my setup doenst want to cooperate.. at least the ram doesnt. oh wells. time to upgrade. all i can say is im WAYYYYYYYY more then happy with my 3850.. and again thanks stilt.. your the man
so my best 3d06 is 10,274
s939 x2 3800@ 3.05
3850 256 972mhz/999mhz
crucial ballistix 510mhz
edit: i cant submit for some reason jsut me or are the servers down?
So what is the 3870 BIOS that has the higher load vcore and is designed for reference cards? HIS one?
Weird, was it stable 100% at that voltage, i went up to 1.6v and couldn't pass 950, why didn't you go higher than 972?
Also, did you notice that there'sn't much performance difference between 760 and 860? i mean, i got only 100 points in 3DMark'06, and just 1 FPS in Crysis on high settings and 1280 res, it's so weird, as if i'm not overclocking in the first place!
Your welcome!
My cards are reference Sapphire and this BIOS is SuperB for them...Might be that our boards aren't identical
I've flashed from DOS using
Atiflash -p 0 name -f
where -f was important addition to this procedure :)
I don't need to open RT just to adjust FAN speeds anymore :D On the other hand IAX BIOS allowed me to clock cards up to 1500MHz from OD (but I couldn't reach it stable  )
well i can do 1000mhz core but i need 1.58 volts.. i couldn't get her stable no matter what at 1000mhz until i used my ducting trick to bring in cold air.
normal idle is 45c idle load 62c with ducting 19c load 35c
it would not do 1000mhz with no matter the volts when i had the normal air. but when i chilled the air it went like a mofo.
i have also noticed the little increase of score from 860-960 is about yes 100-200 marks on my weak s939 x2 3800.
but that was lunch so back to work. and more later. :p:
edit: i dont know anything about cap mods. can anyone enlighten me please?
What's that duct trick? make a duct from your A/C to the computer?
Anyway, thanks for the info man, now i feel i'm not alone, was going crazy trying to figure out why wasn't i getting any improvement, or nearly any.
yea basiclly. i stick ducting out my window. its colder then 0c outside so i strap a 200cfm fan to it, and bam instant coldness. room gets freezing but hey it works.. i am prolly gonna toss my chiller on the card to see what she can do with -20c temps. :D :p:
I m curious,
All the people who reached 900mhz or 885mhz after the bios update. What chipset motherboard do you have, running PCi Express 1.0 or 2.0.
I have the ABiT QuadGT 965 chipset and still can't get over 860mhz.
I don't think it's related to the motherboard chip, right?
so theres an OC bios available, cant wait to try it....
<-- 1.0 pcie
really don't think it will make big difference.
sorry for question :D
somebody can send me please flash-tool for 3870? ballemail [at] gmail [dot] com
tnx ;)
You can use ATiWinFlash, right click on its folder, then open a CMD window, write the following after putting the flash file inside that folder ...
atiwinflash -f -p 0 <filename>
wait for like 1 minute, nothing will happen after you press enter by the way, just wait, then after a long boring time a popup will appear, press ok then restart.
no need to email it, just d/l it

I spend 2 night with my 3870's in CF right now... They scale nice, but overclocking in CF with rivatuner is quite a PITA.
I stopped @ 891 / 1332 with gave me 23202 @ '06
Max memspeed was 1366mhz with 800mhz on the core.... not bad at al.
I going to test the cards one by one tonight, i'll keep you guys updated :D
Totally stock :D Only the TPU bios....
1366 mem stock, very nice :) Mine maxes at 1300.
I can do 901mhz core in CF, but the score is slower.
http://tweakers.net/ext/f/8MDqbcBanc...k20L/thumb.png
mine maxes at around 1100 but its a 512mb 3850 with gddr3 ^^
does the gddr4 get warm at all? the gddr3 on my card gets hot!
I don't know saaya, I barley watch temps... just bech till they freeze.
Right now 891 / 1332 appears to be the best, I tried 918 / 1305, but it freezes on firefly.
is there any unlocked bios for asus ?
hey boys did some testin last nite and i benched 3dmark 06 with 930/1200 last nite on my 3870(just one run).stock volts just the new bios.i have a mcw60 waterblock on it and a small undervolted fan strapped to the mem heatsink and vreg heatsink.im seeing 22c idle and 31c load in my cold 16c den.gonna push ahead tonite with the core tonite and ill post my top core frequency
Can't get much more out of it...both cards running on 860/1366 in CCC.
http://192.168.2.169:8005/OPEN4ALL/1...6_beide_CF.jpg
Hey guy's.... look at this :D
http://tweakers.net/ext/f/q4l3pQ2WoN...kzVc/thumb.png
1500 max slider on the core? Strange... 885 limit is gone... don't know how I did it...
Wow!, cool, if you know how to do that, please let us know...
I will :)
I want to test this one more time on clean install....
I will post asap when I know
it's a part of the bios...... CCC get's additional slider range.
Yeah, I got the same thing when I flashed to a higher clocked bios. Nice to have the extra slider range, but no increase in voltage. Looks like this after.
I wish there was an increase in memory too!
Before this, I was using the cable swap trick... for more volts, i'm gonna hardmod the cards anyway. At first I wasn't sure it was only the bios witch unlocked this... I wanned to make sure before posting. Good to see it works for more people
I need some better cooling on the cards now... achieved 25157 ' 06 yesterday with some LN2 on the cpu.
Nope it isn't... shamino is faster... check the orb, I thougt so to.
It is the first place on HWbot, because Shamino didn't posted his score :D
Now its time for vmods and more coldness..
Just looked at his score. Nice run by Shamino. You'll probably need a little more from the cpu to catch him.
Ah little? neah, never gonna make that!
I made my own topic :) now we can stay ontopic here :D
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=170239
Thanks CDW
Which bios? I flashed with the one from the op and still don't have the 1500 slider. I've even reinstalled cat 7.11 along with kb945149 (not sure if needed?).
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945149
I used this one
http://rapidshare.com/files/77963873/HD3870OC.bin.html
cards run 877 / 1200 after flash...
flash at own risk!
I used the 830/1200 bios from here. Hope it works for you.
http://www.iax-tech.com/video/3800biosmod/03.htm
I´m using a powercolor 3870 right now and i have flashed the bios so i can go past 862mhz on core. Planing to flash again for some higher stock clocks. Which bios works best for my card ? 800/1200 or something like that. And the flash procedure is the same as the 862mhz stop bios ?
Hi folks.
Ok.. I have (2) 3870.. and I can get 890/1300 on both cards. This is using Denny's BIOS.
I was curious how people are adjusting their vGPU. I have read that people are doing it via BIOS, but I can't find out what tool and how they are doing it. Can anyone point me in the right direction.
Thanks.
Ton
