:surf:This board has been ultra stable for me. So stable I am bored. Itt crunches through my games and converts video files and other tasks without a skip. Future upgrades: Better video card something PCI/e 2.0, almost surely ATI. Storage wise I am going to add as I can afford. I will save for a Raptor 150gb for the OS's, or 2 74gb models and dedicate each drive to a particular OS. Getting ready to install Vista Home Premium (sp1 version) 64bit and Ubuntu 8.04 on their own partitions, will update with any issues. The newest Ubuntu kernel can install wothin windows but I always prefer to leave them in their own partitioned space. Its always saved me in the past, especially with Vista on 2 other 170 Opteron builds. Both started BSOD for unknown reason then one magically started working again without me doing anything (WTF!). With so many users (four kids ages 10, 6, 4, 3:eek:) and the various software they purposely or accidently install makes Vista go crazy, it really isn't as forgiving as XP pro so I mainly run it for the kids games and DX10. I played with it for about year and said forget it XP just works so I will stay with it for now.
The newest beta of Firefox blows away IE7. I didn't realize how IE7 was so slow even with decent hardware. Pages load real fast and the interface is intuitive. It has become my primary browser for now. Well thanx for all the great info and if anyone can report what exact issues they are having with bios 1209 I would appreciate. I want to try and duplicate the issue to see if its hardware related.:D
About the cpu temp pro on my p5e3 deluxe, well i decided to sell the p5e3 deluxe and now have a p5e3 premium lol the temp problem is exactly the same so im assuming its my e8400 thats broke stupid intel crap! oh well im only using this cpu till the 1600fsb quads get cheaper so im going to o/c this to 4ghz on my premium.

I know with mine i have to power off every time i change a bios setting. Have you loaded defaults, Updated bios, power off- reset- remove batt, back into bios load default, power off, entered req'd settings, power off (maybe a batt out reset but i know mine is happy if i only do that after a reflash). I took me a while to find a bios i was happy with, as newer isn't always better i don't know if maybe there mem or even mobo specific. When i first got the board i was pulling my hair out but i turn out to be a bad stick of ram
Razack – I’m not sure if you’re using liquid or air to cool your system, but I believe it’s possible to OC this chip to 3.2ghz on Air…. If the temps are low enough the settings below should help… If the temps are too high keep the FSB Frequency the same and reduce your CPU Ratio…

There’s nothing wrong with your board… The MB Defaults to Auto every time you update your Bios or until you manually enter your voltages - unfortunately default settings are not displayed. For example – When your DRAMs set to Auto it usually sets it to 1.5v (This can cause problems which includes the dreaded BSOD). Usually the Auto settings are okay, but if you want a stable system, and if you’re going to OC you need to increase your volts. I’ve heard that this board can over volt some CPU’s when it set to Auto.
Basically IMO Auto = Bad!!!!!

There are to many physical differences between the Premium and Deluxe for a successful flash. The premium has 3 phase DDR3 pwr and dual phase on the NB. Also the Premium has one less pciex1 slot than the Deluxe. $150 is a good price especially if you are including everything the retail package has.Quote:

Bios 1303 now available but after flashing within the biosI got error beeps and no post. Looks like a memory issue and I am going to try a 1gb stick with a 1.5 voltage setting to see if it posts. I get 1 long 3 short a long pause and 1 long.

Bios 1401 (beta) is out http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us and since I had vga issues for some unknown reason with 1303 I went to 1401, flashed with eztool and usb stick as usual without issue. I know the P45 boards are all the rage but just remember our board has a little more than the P45. Xfire with full lanes x16x16 is nice even if its not that big a performance jump, still getting bios updates so someone is still giving support. Say what you want about asus they do stick with their hardware longer than others. Tech wise I think this board will hold up well till nehalem.

thanx for sharing, the q6600 still holds well against the newer 45nm quad chips, and paired with a good mobo/chipset like x38/x48 or P45 even more performance can be had. My friend has a q9450 clocked to 3.4ghz in a 790i board and while faster than my q6600 in benching/games even he admits he hasn't seen a really big jump over his older 680i and q6600 rig. Of course the extreme 45nm quads pretty much blow away the older versions but there are still a few oems using qx6850 in their builds.Quote:

I cant seem to find anyone using this exact chip (searches on this thread turned up nothing).. particularly 8GB... I've had some issues even getting it stable at 1333 on this board, though i think i've found settings that work. I never could get it to work at 1600mhz though (or at least, get past a boot of either boot Live CDs or vista booting off the harddrive)..

I am running q9650 at 4 GHz and v core of 1.42v in BIOS and CPU-z shows 1.4v on idle. prime 95 stable. I'm a bit worried about running the v core at 1.42v. Do you think it's safe? I tried to use load line calibration but it won't boot into Windows over 3.6 GHz. If anyone is running the same processor i would unappreciated if they could post their BIOS settings so I can see what I'm doing wrong. On other forums people are getting 4 GHz at lower voltages. please help:help:
Voltages will differ... Maybe your one of the unlucky ones… Bad batch…. Also different mother boards require slightly more or less voltage… Only use other members settings as a guide…

These settings were provided to me from ASUS and they work perfectly with 8GB of RAM. I can pass Intel Burn Test 14tests MAXIMUM STRESS as well as OCCT 3.0.1.0 2hr auto.
I have not tried raising my FSB over the standard 333Mhz, but I can raise my multiplier and the system is still stable. FYI you will not be able to get 1600Mhz out of 8GB, I believe this a chipset limitation as 8GB does put a lot of stress on the X38, I have heard the situation is pretty much the same with the X48, (although some folks do seem to have luck on their BlackOps and Rampage Extreme boards) albeit with high voltages and lots of cooling

this board is a PITA! 2X2GB I get random bsods suring overclocking unless I run it at 400X9 for 1600MHZ but if I try a different divider and run it even under 1600mhz with higer fsb bsod! also the voltage sattings are incorrect. 1.38XX in bios get me 1.35 in cpu-z that .03 vdrop and it gets closer to .04 with higer voltage settings. even with LLC enabled. and whats the purpose of over charging voltage?? to annoy me?!?!? ughhhh. its an ok board but serious problems and now with X58 asus more than likely will not fix them

I do know to get the latest ExpressGate you have to grab 2 files, one to get the DFI file, and the other to get the latest updater (which is packed with an older DFI file) the whole ftp site is a mess (and their are 2) with no one using the same naming convention, so it is a complete nightmare working out whats what, and which you need .... and no, the ftp is no faster than it used to be, it's painful, like dialup speeds !

The other thing i only found out a couple of days ago, is that the manual supplied actually had the RAM slot allocation table miss printed ! and for 2 sticks of ram it was saying to use the wrong two slots ! ... get the latest downloadable manual to get the correct info !
