pleased to mate
Could someone please have a look over my settings and give me a hint what to change, I must be missing something. I had 510MHz x9 stable enough for benching all day, I increased some voltages and went straight to 530MHz x9. I could enter Windows once but it crashed while running Aquamark, afterwards I could no longer boot these settings and had to clear CMOS. I entered all my previous settings for 510MHz FSB, at least I thought I did, but they didn't work anymore. :(
Just for your info, I have lots of fans and ambient temp was ~0°C.
CPU is my E8600, I'm running BIOS F9I on my UD3P.
I entered [ ... ] for my memory settings I could not recall, I change them with MemSet anyway.Code:******Motherboard Intelligent Tweaker (M.I.T.)******

Please help me, this is quite frustrating.
Just wondering if you normally used 700/700/0/0 for your advanced clock control? Your CPU and MCH ref's look low, are those the settings you used with default VTT-1.20v before raising it to 1.4ov? With my e8400 if I remember correctly, the MCH ref need to be a notch or 2 lower than the CPU ref for 4500mhz stable.
Yeah, 700/700/0/0 worked fine until 460MHz, and 510MHz worked well too. I looked at some other settings posted in this thread, looks like most people use 800/800/0/50 or even higher skews plus higher refs, I will try that tomorrow.
Anything else that comes to mind?
Thats all I saw, that and the ram voltage is higher than I have ever used lol. Everything else looks fine to me. I used Auto for some of the other ref's but if Normal worked for you before it shouldn't be a problem now. Radaja is good with the c2d settings, maybe he will have some better idea.
Have you tried using PL8-240B? It worked fine with the G.Skill PI's well over 1200mhz.
whats the best divider and strap for 650mhz+ on the memory while still keeping high fsb? im thinking 3:4 400 strap as if i manage 500 fsb that would mean 666mhz on the memory. 3:4 200 strap drops my max fsb by 20-30.
is 500fsb 666mhz memory a realistic goal or should i try 2:3 266 strap to get 650mhz+ on the memory? unfortunately 266 strap is the only one that has 2:3 divider on my board, 400 strap has 3:5 instead :(
Its a OCZ Flex EX 1866 C7 3x2gb kit.
This board definitely has potential but its also more choosy with the settings it likes vs the ddr2 board. It took me more testing time to get this 4.5 than the 4.65 on the ddr2 board although I am still learning what this board/ram likes. Im going to try to get 2000 stable but its going to be a challenge and im not holding my breath.
The T boards are discontinued so there not going to be widely available.
ok thats weird, board wouldnt coldboot 3:4 400 strap 375 fsb, i shut it down for a while when i turned it back on its at 5:6 333 strap 333fsb, the default for my board.
all of a sudden memory can only do 933 5-5-5-15 2.2v :shakes: 100% stable at that setting but 960 instant bluescreen. used to do 1170 5-5-5-15 2.2v. i guess i can try 1 stick and i also have 2x1gb crucial ballistix which just happen to be fatbodies as backup. guess i will be needing new ram :(
edit: the better of the 2 sticks can still do 1040 4-4-4-12 2.2v error free, still dissapointing since the other stick can only do 933 5-5-5-15 2.2v.
edit2: more bad news, my old fatties wouldnt boot at its rated settings of 800 4-4-4-12 2.2v, had to use the 1:1 divider to get them to boot. plus the northbridge gets quite hot even with 1.2v. not blistering but definitaly hot, not warm like my ram at 2.2v. thats shortly after my rig was shut down btw, and it was only idling for a while before it was shut down.
Hi Guys :)
Have been reading this thread for a little while and am hoping you might be able to explain/help me out with my overclock. I have my 8400@ 4.2 but even small increase after this needs lots of vcore (+.06 for 4.3). Have a look at my voltages and any suggestions are welcome. My ram read speed seems comparitively low, what can i do to boost it? My NB feels extremely hot(can only touch for a couple of seconds) at 1.300 so i havent pushed fsb any higher yet but have 80mm fan on the way that i will direct at the NB and push for higher FSB. This thread has been lots of help in learning to OC, this being my first!!

@Hoss: Very nice 24/7 settings Hoss!
Do you mind posting your everest mem scores and please post some Templates there are like 2 DDR3 board templates in the entire thread ;)
I got the board but is true they don't work at all with D9GTR's. No matter volts. skews, ref's, clt, cmd etc they don't brake the 1600Mhz barrier  Memtest #5 errors in 10 passes is the issue...
So far for people thinking of getting this DDR3 board get either Elpida Hyper or D9JNM IC's for ram.
@DonDan
Sorry I can't help man I never tried this board with Duo Cores.
Anyone with a GA-EP45T-UD3LR board that can plz post bios setting for anything over 4.0 on a Quad core ( Stable ) i have a Q9550 and need help getting past 4.0 stable.

What settings have you been using to try getting above 1600? I not sure if its the ddr3 or just this board but its hungry for mch voltage, well compared to my ddr2 board, especially at high clocks. So far it doesnt seem to like or need any cpu or mch skew, ive played a little with v-dimm skew but it doesnt seem to help any. It does seem to be rather picky or less forgiving with the references so make sure you get them right on.

Come on Hoss, lets see 1833 cas 6 stable .
Its going to have to be done on a different strap and lower fsb but ill give it a go. I dont think this board/chip will do 32m at 573fsb or 5.15Ghz. :) I sure do wish that 3:5 divider wasnt bugged. :(
this is freaky, not only with my crucial ballistix 2x1gb(fatties) wont boot 333fsb 5:6 memtest errors out at 385fsb 333 strap 1:1 and no amount of dram or mch voltage has any effect on stability  . 380 fsb 333 strap 1:1 is 100% stable.
only a few days ago i was pulling off 1248 memory speed 468 fsb at only 1.24v mch with my team xtreem 1300s. maybe this board just really doesnt like fatbodies? i guess nobody has ever tried since fatties are so old. this really defies logic, has anyone ever experienced high nb temps at only 1.2v?
edit: seems my fatbodies are limited to 380mhz on this board and no amount of ddr2 or mch voltage will change that. i tried both of my team xtreem 1300s in dual channel, did 400+fsb no problem. also it seems the nb hs gets quite hot at the default 1.1v as well under load, much hotter than d9,s at 2.2v.
edit2: this is really bizarre, with both team xtreem 1300s in dual channel they are limited to 948 memory speed. timings, ddr2 and mch voltage and various memory dividers all have no effect on stability. 960 = instant bluescreen.4-4-4-12 and 5-5-5-15 timings both max out at 948. same goes for my crucial ballistix(fatbodies) only difference they max out at 760. with just the better of the two team xtreem 1300 sticks it scaled to 1040 4-4-4-12 2.2v. anyone have idea what could cause this? knowing how hot the mch can get at stock 1.1v im not surprised how my last board(ga-p35-ds3p)rapidly degraded with only +0.2v mch.
What performance level are you running? If set too low, it can limit fsb considerably.
BTW hoss, a superb SPi time there. Just a couple of MHz more, and Jor3lbr's top place will be under threat!
I will get back to work on my attempts soon enough, but after having a little scare, I'm gonna play a lot more carefully now! It seems for 495fsbx9, 1:1 (333 strap) PL10, the NB only needs 1.24v, and so I would assume a notch or two more is all that's really needed for 500fsb, and the board probably needed a lot less all-round volts than I was giving it for benching, so I hope to have better success in the not too distant future. I think a good SPi32M runs is my next target, as I'm not happy being over 10mins on that!
Thanks for the info Hoss, yes I tried everything problem is this board DOESN'T like ram volts at all, so you have to undervolt the vdimm to get it stable and D9GTR's need voltage to run properly. So the problem lies there.
I see your ram is rated 2.0v but your feeding them 1.66vdimm?
Superb superpi32m run those ddr3 at 800+ Mhz are much more faster then good old ddr2 for those runs. Thanks for the heads up on the templates
Actually In-Fluence his score with DDR3 is already way further below of mine with DDR2.
The problem with benching is temperatures, if you use volts and for a milisecond your processor peaks the max temperature during all those benches it will get a little scratched.
So if you don't have the cooling for it just play safe.
It's always good to now the equipment before benching, that way you keep the voltages real, you chose the right path
Yeh, my bad, I was getting mixed up with your 9.06 1M time :)
As for temps I understand fully, and I think the amount of cooling I had was adequate for the majority of it, but like you say, it only takes a split second of silly volts or temps to ruin a chip, and I may have just gone a notch too far! I will try and get the XS team a few more points, but It's really about time for me to actually use my PC and do something constructive for a change! All in the name of fun :)
So would you say the processor is degraded or not? Did you try a complete CMOS reset and letting the caps on your mobo drain by unplugging your computer? Might be worth a try to get it back to perform as it used to. Would be a pity if it actually degraded, as I'm pretty sure mine is degraded as well then, as I've used 1.6VTT and 1.55Vcore for Benching on air. I can't actually test whether it degraded as it's my mobo that's limiting me, not my CPU, as you might already know :p
Edit: Oh, lol, WOW, you managed to get 5ghz+ validated. Was that on air?! That's insane! Great job! After seeing that Vcore, I might have found out the reason why yours degraded though :p Regardless, an awesome result!
I don't have a Quad, but here's my settings for the Work PC in my Sig.

I'm glad to say that I don't think it has degraded. I had a bit of a scare, but after some more tweaking, I've actually managed to lower volts and get it all stable again. I honestly can't remember if I got the 500x9 stable with the FB or FD bios, but if it was FB, then that might explain it. Either way, I'm happy now. Once I've tuned it a little more, I'll get another 4.5GHz screenie up, but in the meantime, I'm gonna go for some fet blocks and possibly a second loop to see how much further I can get.
I've also been experiencing a bug which kept giving me BSODs about a minute after login, and during shutdown which didn't help matters
Got that sorted now at last :D
i have performance level set to 8 in bios. with both crucials 5:6 333fsb wont boot, with both teams 3:4 333fsb wont boot, used to run 3:4 375fsb 24/7 then one day wont boot :( . not a fsb problem, with just the good team stick both fsb and memory speed will fly. with just the bad team stick same problem. i just dont get how a team stick can degrade from 1248 to 948 overnight, then i try my old fatties they wont even do their rated speed of 800 4-4-4-12 2.2v. its like the bad team stick is locked at 948, 100% stable at that speed any higher instant bluescreen, every known bios setting has no effect on memory stability good or bad. and no, i havent tried 3-3-3 timings or undervolting lol. same goes for the crucials but at 760 :/
Is there any definitive way to tell if i am giving the MCH/Northbridge Chip too much voltage??? or it's getting too hot??
I noticed the only ones who get a nb reading are those with H20 cooling.....but gigabyte appears to give no way.....to monitor the critical things like nbcore/ temp sb temp, pwm etc - just one reading and it's kinda vague
unless what they say about speedfan is true and the first temp IS the nb???
Since I'm giving the nb 1.46 to keep 500 fsb , am i safe in assuming the most critical temp Gigabyte provides youu with IS the Northbridge???
Thats all.... :shrug::shrug::shrug::shrug::shrug:
http://i432.photobucket.com/albums/qq43/davk666/ET.jpg

NB volts are a little too much, try 1.4 or less. Once you've done that, try raising the MCH ref a notch at a time, you will also need to do the same for CPU ref. Skews are also important. The 2nd temperature is system temperature, not NB.
Yeah, I was trying to see what kind of volts were needed purely for fsb, but it's nice to see a lower PL ability on this board than the MIIF at 1:1. I assume pull-ins don't work when at pl9, I tried a couple of combos, but nothing seemed to allow me to post properly. When at PL10, I only needed 1.26v for 500fsb large fft stability, but for PL9, I think I'm looking at 1.34 or 1.36, still better than my MIIF :D
just got a new E8400....has the worst VID I've ever had on a wolfdale of 1.2625V!!
However, it's the best clocking E8400 I've ever had. I once had an E8500 that clocked as well as this but never an E8400..... I only have a 92mm Scythe cooler and so far this is stable for a few hours gaming...

Sorry...that should be 1.28V !! lol.
did some more testing and it seems the sweet spot on this chip is 4.725GHz with 1.408V. It fails linX but is totally stable so far gaming and doing a quick CFD simulation
How do I verify that?
well that would explain why I've been disappointed with my bandwidth :(
that's a real pain in the ass. the 4.00 divider is too much to handle on the p45 chipset and the 3.00 is too little! :(
Just have to make do with tighter timings I guess
Theres still 3.20B.
I can't seem to have much luck over 500FSB though with 3.20B
heres a good thread about the issue w/3:5 divider
3:5 divider on X38/P35/X48/P45 is broken, is 2:3 in reality on 400 strap
Is the 2.4b which I'm using, a good strap? Just curious I seem, to not have any issues with it so.. Still curious though.
yes,333 strap 2.40B is 5:6 divider which i found to be the best for me
RAM ratios:for the UD3P
200 strap: 3:4, 3:5, 1:2
266 strap: 4:5, 2:3, 1:2
333 strap: 1:1, 5:6, 5:8, 1:2
400 strap: 1:1, 3:4, 2:3
Have managed to get the 3.20B strap working at higher FSB.

Hi all,
I have my E8400 stable @4.2 but am having some problems getting my DDR3 stable at 1400.
My ram: http://www.ocztechnology.com/product...atinum_edition
I am using the 2.66D strap, is this a good choice or does it matter? I am narrowing the problem down to the boards auto trfc and Trd settings. Getting progresively longer blend runs with trd set progressively lower. Got 4 hours blend at trd 12, trying 11 now. Also have Trfc down to 72 from auto at 78. Is 11 low or high for DDR3 at 1400?
Thanks for any input.
Thanks for the suggestion bluestang, much appreciated, am blending now at 500x8 with 3.2B. I have left my memory timings very loose for first run.
My easytune readout for 4.2 stable with ram at 1050 is below. Is there much benefit to having ram at 1600 over 1050(1:1 FSB:DRAM) with low timings? i know my ram was undercloceked when at 1050 but i am having a tough time gettin blend stable at anything but 1:1.
http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m.../Easytune1.png
I think its probably like stang said that your ref settings are off. When you switch anything in the BIOS or at least for me, you have to start all over again other wise you will have all kinds of issues. When I say all over again I mean all over again settings wise.
You have to tweak each individual setting all over again. I can just pop my head in to the BIOS not make any changes but, tell it to save the settings and my system will want to be tweaked again to get stable again. Maybe this is just me here but that is how mine acts.
So it failed Prime blend at the 896(?) size with all ram settings on auto (ridiculously loose 10-10-10-24) So i set to 7-7-7-20 and left everything else on auto and running blend again. there is a problem with the spd on this ram so i am getting the 7-7-7-20 from ocz website and forum. Below is current memset values. Thanks for your help, would love to get ram stable at 1600. I am using voltages same as in previous post.
edit: i bumped dram voltage up to 1.82, prob needs this at 1600?
http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m...1016-50-28.png
Thanks for your tips! Setting 800/800/150/150 got things stable very fast, I could even lower vtt and vMCH and still boot at 510MHz FSB speed.
I was setting PL8 in Windows using MemSet.
Thanks again! :)
No problem mate, I think you saw my results on hwbot, it worked out.
what's up with the ud3r failing or shutting down al of a sudden as it's loading Vista????? and the sequence in which you have to hit the start button?????
do any of you guys get this, or did i just get a bum board here????:shrug::shrug:
ps: i'm certain it didn't degrade cause it's been doing this since the first night i brought it home...
the Asrock p4i65gv did this
edit: i think if ofund the answer - it appears the memory is being set to too low a voltage everytime i reboot - didn't notice that - - oops
nothing i could do could get my faulty team xtreem 1300 stick to not bluescreen at 480mhz, and 1 good stick is only good at seeing how far it will clock for the sake of it, and my crucial fatties wont boot at its rated speed of 400mhz either, guess my board really doesnt like them.so i got some ram thats good for gaming and somewhat good for benching too, ocz flex ex 2x2gb 1200. i heard it uses an unknown type of hynix ic,s, unlike the flex 1150,s which use psc. anyone know what are the best subtimings for high clocks on this ram? if you ignore trfc it actually defaults to pretty tight timings for a 4gb kit particularly trrd of 3. timings in memset are as follows:
5-5-5-5-18-6-54-8-14-11-3-8-5-6-3120t-2t (pl8 is manually set in bios.)
so far i have tried 500mhz 5-5-5-18 2.2v its orthos stable, will try higher tomorrow.
edit: thats odd, if i set 400 fsb 4:5 divider 266 strap = no boot, 3:4 divider 400 strap = no boot regardless of fsb, yet 375 fsb 4:5 divider 266 strap boots then upping fsb to 400 with setfsb = 10 minutes orthos stable what gives? it was still error free after 10 minutes but i stopped it at that point. also every time i get back into bios after a failed reboot it comes up with the red failed overclock message, all settings i most recently put in dont change except cpu multi goes to 9. is 3:4 divider bugged?
I've read about a few disappointed people with those xtreem sticks, they're good while they last, but unless you give them some hardcore cooling they can fail quite easily, particularly with the kind of volts they're rated for. Those flex ex seem tgo do quite nicely, did you just buy those? New? Where from? Are they not rated at 6-6-6-18 like here?
I'm going to go on my 3rd hunt for 8gb of DDR1200 at the end of this month, and I'm eyeing up the tridents which are pricey but I know they perform well. There's also a couple of revisions of the G.Skill PI's (i.e. silver and newer blue versions) which cost even more, but I expect they'll perform better.
If they all fall outside my price range, then I may consider going for some flex ex instead, particularly if the price is good. My chaintech sticks will happily chug along at ~1160 (only 10MHz over stock), but no further whatsoever and I don't like being stuck on the 1:1 ratio.
In the meantime, I've been seeing what the board can do with stock volts (except vcore & vdimm), and it passed a loop of p95 blend at 480x9 last night (this is with just 1.2vtt, 1.2vmch, and 1.5pll, and a trd of 11 for now). This board still slams my MIIF in terms of voltages needed, I previously had to go for something like 1.36mch and the 1.36vtt at those kind of speeds, and I would struggle to get it stable.
I'm now testing at 489x9 to see what it takes to get 4.4GHz stable, which I think is finally on the verge with these measily volts, but it's a good point to learn what adjustments make the crucial differences when increasing fsb (rather than my previous 'stab in the dark' attempts). I just keep getting more & more impressed with this board as time goes on, all I want are some mosfet blocks, DDR1200 memory and i might be happy .
How many of you have removed the blue "GIGABYTE" and "Ultra Durable" plates from on top the Silent-Pipe heatsinks? How hard to remove and what did you use? It looks like these would hold in heat and are only cosmetic. Taking them off would allow more air to hit the actual heatsinks correct?
Bluestang, some questions for you or anyone else that wants to chime in! I see you are running your work rig at PL8. Did you try going for 7? not stable? I have my ram stable at 1600 now and priming with trfc 60. next step will be lowering trd so any hints? did you have to up vMch to get lower trd?
Thanks again for info on straps. 3.2B seems alot more ram friendly than 2.66D was.
i took them off all my boards.after you have the heatsink assembly off, just use a blow dryer to heat up the blue covers and gently pull them off.if you get them hot enough the glue will stick to the blue part and you will have an easier time cleaning the glue.:D i only took off the NB one on my last two boards.
any opinions on these while they're in stock, i figured it was time to go for some decent ram instead of the pidley 1066 i've been surviving on and wanted to do 1200..
i'm sort of limited here, so these are all i can afford now that i got the board stable...but Gigabyte seems to claim you can use up to 1300 and above for a "performance boost" and 4 gb is right about in my price range...
I know some of yous recomend the Trident and obviously the teem extreem stuff, and flex also, but would you recommend the Ripjaws or can it not even hold it's water at 1200 (stock)...

ok, thank you for that quick response.... i'l see if i can scrape up another 40.00
cause i definitely need 4 gb this time....
i got screwed with Dominator, they sold me a dead stick and i'm stuck with 2 which could go any day now...:confused::confused::confused:
EDIT: ironically, that's less than i paid for the dominator
how come you're in this thread??? .........
EDIT: forgive me, i don't wanna get back into this...
all i was looking for is advice on memory....i figure it's time to move on....
nice mobo, pity is not for the beginner overclockers. Today I tried the 4200 1.264v "solid" the system starts even at 450x9.5 but beyond 443x9.5 not stable. Some ideas with the skew?
http://forum.hwproject.net/imagehost...4af44a235e.jpg
yes, they are rated for 1200 6-6-6-18 2.2v. they were instock at a local computer store so i snapped them up. not cheap mind you. hopefully i dont regret getting these instead of being patient and getting g.skill trident 1200 5-5-5-15 1.8v. im hoping for 1100 5-5-5-18 2.2v but i have read 1200 definitaly requires 6-6-6-18 and very little is known about subtimings and how it behaves with this board unfortunately.
i have hear they can do 1000 cas 4 so thats a possibility, im not holding my breath though. no way my board is going to do 480fsb 4:5 anytime soon and 3:4 divider 400 strap wont boot regardless of fsb so any suggestions what divider will get me there? perhaps 2:3 for 24/7 and 4:5 for benching? both on 266 strap btw. havent even tried the 2:3 divider or anything higher on this board yet.
memory dividers higher than 4:5 266 strap wont boot even at 333fsb and 400fsb 4:5 266 wont boot either, 375fsb 4:5 266 is fine though. i have tried 3:4 400 and 2:3 266, no luck. so im limited to pushing the fsb in windows on 4:5 266 strap using setfsb and testing stability with orthos. i got to 415fsb ddr2-1040 5-5-5-15 before i got an error 6 minutes into orthos. i changed timings to 5-6-5-15 and upped mch volts from 1.1 to 1.2. so either the ram or the board is limiting me, most likely the board imo. it was 10 minutes orthos stable again at 8x425 1066 5-6-5-15 so i upped my card to its highest bench stable clock, 701/1511/1147 and got my best 3dmark06 score.
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=12899265
more to do with my cpu at 3.4, instead of 3.3 like my last run. changing to a coolermaster cosmos s has dropped cpu temps by a good 10c.
after the run i shut my rig off to feel nb temp. it was hot, not blistering but definitaly hot at just 1.2v. ram on the other hand was actually cool at 2.2v. i know the ud3l series boards have an inferior nb hs but this is ridiculous imo. its funny this board is actually rated for 1366+ memory, i somehow doubt anyone has actually reached that on any ud3l series board.
+1 for the G.Skill 9600PI's, best ddr2 kit I ever had.
Hi all, just get one EP45-UD3P and is having problem in getting my Q9650 stable @ 495 FSB (prime freezes after 1.5 hours).... settings as below, what's wrong? The ram is Gskill PC8500 PK 2GB X 2

just achieved this with this board :)
I'm having trouble getting past this clock though, would really like to do a 5GHz run but the board doesn't seem to want to do the FSB. I have tried up to 1.5V nb and it doesn't post at all :/ Pretty sure the CPU is capable of it but I dropped the multi anyway to see if I could get the target fsb first.

this board is weird, settings i know are orthos stable if i overclock in windows simply wont boot. regardless of other settings 400 fsb = no boot, at 333fsb 3:4 and 2:3 = no boot, and recently i tried 5:8 at 333fsb too. it booted, but couldnt get into windows every time. so being stuck with a choice of 4:5, 5:6 or 1:1 divider plus my fsb limitation its impossible to get higher than ddr2-1066 :/ . i have tried changing performance level, timings and mch voltage.is that alone a good enough excuse to get a refund or replacement for this board?
sounds iffy, what's your PSU like?
let me rephrase that, settings i know are 100% stable if i raise fsb using setfsb in windows simply wont boot if i set them in bios.
unfortunately i dont think there is a way to change memory divider in windows, or cas latency in windows for that matter so im stuck with what i got.
psu is a thermaltake toughpower 750w. so far 435 fsb works with 5:6 divider using setfsb.
max v mch for my GA-P45 UD3R is 1.62v on air, anyone ever touch 1.7v ? on air ??
good news! i tried raising fsb with setfsb further, got to 460fsb orthos stable! funny how it wont even boot if i set 400 fsb in bios. still 1.2v mch, 2.2v ddr2, all other voltages normal. 5-6-5-15 timings. this is a higher fsb than i ever achieved with 2gb same voltages, i suspect setting performance level to 9 instead of 8 had something to do with it.
know how to set the command rate to 1T?

perfect thanks :)
i know but northbridge heatsink already gets hot as it is, how hot is too hot? im only going by feel btw as there is no temp sensor for it as far as i know.ud3lr has an inferior northbridge heatsink and no heatpipes compared to the ud3p/ud3r so im sure its going to limit me somewhat.
Anyone know how much i should tighten the screws on the mosfet water blocks. It's the mips blocks for the ep45-ud3p. The one over the cpu starts to bend the mobo almost right away.. And i'm useing the original pads that are there.
