@DoObs
at what priority level?
IBT 50run with at least 1500mb full memory stressed will be the best man to check for stability
:)
*cheers~*
I seem to be stuck at 3.8ghz with this board and E8500 + OCZ Reaper DDR2 1066 2x2Gb. Also I have noticed that I can not get the board to even boot with anything higher than 400x9.5, anything higher than 400 even with lower multi does not boot into windows. The odd thing is that the 3.8ghz setting is rock solid for 4 hours under Orthos Beta

Sometimes when trying an overclock (after restart) I will see the computer turn off fans/lights and sit for a second or two and then try to power back on. Now when I am trying a new OC sometimes it will loop this action over and over. Why is the lights/fans turning off during a restart? I've never seen a board act like that before.
I have also noticed that sometimes when I boot into Vista Business x64 (a lot of the time actually) I'll see some black screen tearing at the login screen for a split second and then it goes away and I don't see it again until the next restart.
Is there any settings I need to turn off/on besides:
FSB FineTune: Disabled
Intel Speed Step: Disabled
CE1: Disabled
Memory PL: 10T
CPU Skew: 200ps
(G)MCH Clock Skew: auto
CPU Clock Driving: 900mV
MCH GTL Ref: 59%
DDR2 Enhanced: Auto
Config by SPD: Disabled
If anyone could give me some assistance to hit 4.0ghz that would be great.
Cooling: Antec 900 + Tuniq Tower 120 + Arctic Cooling MX-2 Thermal Compound

You have Config by SPD set to disabled, but didn't tell us your timings. We'll need those. Which memory ratio are you using? You'll probably also need to add some nb voltage at or over that FSB. What are your load temps under small FFTs? For reference, my Reapers are good for PL9 at 1:1 up to 535mhz with 5-5-5-12-48 with 2.168v(actual).
--Matt
After full load of Orthos Dual Beta for 4.5 hours the temp was 62C @ 1.39V
Here are the rest of the memory settings:
FSB to NB Latch: FSB 1066
DRAM Freq: DDR2 1000
RComp Configuration 3
PL: 10T
tCL: 5
tRP: 5
tRCD: 5
tRAS: 15
tWR: 6
tRFC: 42
tWTR: 3
tRRD: 3
tRTP: 3
Write Precharge Delay: 14
Read Precharge Delay: 4
Precharge All to Act Delay: 4
Precharge All to Refresh Delay: 4
R-to-W Delay: 8
R-to-R Delay: 4
W-to-R Delay: 11
Refresh Counter: 2600T
Also are there any other settings that can have an effect on OCing besides SpeedStep and CE1?
Hey! That actually worked (even without changing tRFC). When you say NB Voltage you mean Chipset Voltage right?
I am stressing now, but it booted up for the first time ever at over 400FSB!
Thanks a lot, now I wonder how far it can go. One odd thing is Everest and TPower 2 Utility both show 4.75ghz because it sees a 9.5 multi instead of an 8.0. Why would it be doing that?
No problem. Yes, I meant chipset voltage. That clock speed issue is going to show up on some things(3dmark, etc.). CPU-Z should show it correctly though. If you don't care for that, you should be able to back the FSB down and set the memory speed to a higher ratio and the cpu multiplier higher.
--Matt
Yes you are correct that CPU-Z does report it correctly (500x8), hell even Orthos shows it as 4.75ghz. It doesn't really bother me as long as it's just a bug and it won't cause any actual problems. Thanks again.
Edit: It's not stable (at least in GTA IV) I got that pattern of square artifacts popping up. Should I try to bump the CPU volts or DRAM?
Anything more than this and I get a nice BSOD with the error of MACHINE_EXCEPTION_CHECK. So I don't know if its either a board, cpu or memory limitation.
If I put my 2gb of Team Xtreem memory in I can get it to boot into windows @ 4.9ghz but if I try to run a 1m SuperPi it reboots.
Memory is currectly PC2-8000 G.Skill and I can say I'm not overly impressed as overclocking headroom past 1000mhz is very small.
I basically already had all those settings, but I did change Clock Drive to 1000mV. I'll stress test tonight for a few hours and report back tomorrow what happened. Hopefully this is stable at 4.0 since this is the speed I was really hoping to achieve, anything after is just a bonus.
Do you have to use that Dump Physical RAM to PCI or whatever it's called to see 4Gb? I'm having an issue with a memory leak while using it and Memory Hole used to enable all 4Gb (on my old machine), but with this one memory hole doesn't fix it.
Guys dont be shy on the NBv and VTT....um i maxed out all my voltages yesterday with a NB waterblock and CPU waterblock....
I can boot into windows at 590FSB
Im trying to get 600fsb...not happening.
@Led what are ur volts to ur ram....put 2.4v.
I find those reapers are really crap...i couldnt even run 1000 with a pair of those...sold them a week later...with overclocking you seem to go through ram and cpu's more. Getting the right pair.
Will show u guys my screen shots of what im running
Was at this yesterday...was using ICE WATER on both blocks...and using SetFSB to go higher.

Pc bombed out though...Crap motherboard imo
LedHead i also see your Aux power 12v molex connector isnt plug in from that pic...Plug it in bud. Gives a better even supply to your gfx card
1.44v to the NB and Windows goes *BARF* with a 0x00007E error which is in reference to the filesystem.
Ok, well I got 4.0 stable with 2.2V on the RAM

I also had this discussion with another board member already, the 4pin 12V molex connector on the board is for the GPU. If you are running a dedicated 12V rail/6pin PCI-E connector why do you need to run a 4pin molex to the board? Here is what the Mobo Manual says: ""This connector is an aux power connection for graphics cards. Exclusive power for graphics cards provides better graphics performance"" Nothing about that makes me think I need to plug it in for better OCing or stability. I figured if you had a crap PSU and you had no 6pin PCI-E you would use that connection.
@LedHed
Congats on your Oc you see it just takes alittle time
and help now can you change your multi to 9.5 x
422=4009 ? what is your Ram running at this setting?
best of luck with your Biostar TPower board
DDR2 @1000mhz
I'll tweak it later when I get the voltage dialed in for 4.0 and see how low I can get the temps, 71C isn't too bad after 6.5 hours of Orthos Dual Beta, but I think I can do better.
For some reason I keep getting random square grid artifacts and display driver stopped responding errors. I plugged in that 4pin molex, but it doesn't seem to have helped anything. What is causing this problem? My old ASRock Dual SATA-II had no problem with running this card at 870/2106/2000, I have tried three different drivers and nothing has helped.
well i hope not for your sake but..the card might be going on you.
lower to stock clocks and see what happens.
The clocks on the card don't have any effect on the artifacts, however I did manage to drop my volts on CPU from 1.38V to 1.25V and my load temps came down 18C due to this:

Now I just have to figure out what is wrong with the GPU.

I can run 32MB PI Orthos and Prime95 all stable...
