I fell another mega thread starting already. Dang ASUS!!!LOL!!!
What sucks on these board is that Asus uses a thickass thermal conducting tape, and paste under both NB and SB Fusion block and cooler, to top it off the SB cooling is linked from under the NB fusion block, so the NB gets a lot of thermal cooling resistance. I took my imitation copper of and used Koolance blocks with a microthin layer of themal paste, just enough to fill in any micro inperfectiond, and I got down to 26°c. Check my pic.
Thx for the input guys! So far I guess the recomendations are G-Skill and Ballistix!
Ballistix 8500 would be me choice, cheap and good ram.
can anyone get this 4:5 divider working I wanna go 400FSB with 1000mhz on the ram, doesn't post, do I really need to relax transaction booster and co to get it booting ?
475FSB~570 DRAM = 5:6 Divider or 333 FSB Strap
475FSB~633 DRAM = 3:4 Divider or 400 FSB Strap
333Straps 1:1, 5:6 and 5:8
400Straps 1:1 and 3:4
DETDRAM to include:
-Vdimm defaults to 1.9v - Too Low for highend RAM
-Try DRAM Static Control: Disabled
-Try Always set to 2T
-Try Manually set CPU Ratio in Advanced CPU where CPU related functions like Excecute Disable Bit are located.
-Try NB and VDIMM slight increase, 1066 is still taxing the NB.
Hello guys , my system were running stock fine , then I did some overclocking , it does not boot up , I hit the clear cmos button on back several time and still don't boot ,
LCD poster stuck at DET DRAM , someone help please ??
@icecpu,
Power dowm by turning off your poewr supply, unplug it for a few seconds, hit your Clear Cmos botton then plug your power back and power up your system.
When your in your bios all your settings should be default again.
9/10 times it's transaction booster
400 strap set to enabled relax level 0
333 strap set to disable relax level 0
You may need to set Dram Static to Auto
If you get the DET RAM hang its usally just a matter of finding the right Trans Booster setting
No need to clear cmos and certainly no need to power down and wait the bios is just fussy kinda like a woman
I just put in different ram and it boot up and now testing 4Ghz (450X9) Prime stable for 1 HR so far , by the way Vcore for E8400 is set 1.39 in bios
True I second that
Wrong thread, but I've added it to the start of mine.
Yea ofc your thread I ment ;)

Not stable.
Still testing and waiting for a god damn bios.

Anyone sucessfully boot up using E8400 and not using Bios 907? thanks
Offtopic.
Grnfinger what gadget are you using to display the Everest info?
@ Grnfinger
Can you share your bios setting to get 4.3Ghz
I got almost the same setup as you but BSOD right after windows is loading when go beyond 450fsb
Max I got stable so far is 4.0Ghz (450X9) vcore 1.39
I don`t get 3,8Ghz stable with my E6750.
500x7 is stable with 1,29VNB 1,20VFSB and 1,337VCore (Biossettings).
450x8 is stable with 1,25VNB 1,20VFSB and 1,325VCore.
Using ram @ 1200 and 2,14V in Bios for both settings, stable. Tested settings with OCCT slider at cpu, middle and ram for over 10hours each without errors.
Now I tried 475x8 with ram @ 1141Mhz(2,14V) using 1,425VCore first.
With 1,29VNB and 1,20VFSB I get an error after about 2hours with slider at ram.
With 1,25VNB and 1,20VFSB I get an error after about 2hours with slider at ram.
With 1,27VNB and 1,20VFSB the system restarted itself after 5hours OCCT (slider ram).
I don`t get this, exspecially(?) if you take a look at stable setting for 500x7 and 450x8!?
Any Ideas?
Edit: I`m using TB disabled relax0 and AI moderate like I do for 1200Mhz within 333strap. Tighter TB or AI settings won`t boot, I guess, this both settings aren`t the problem.
Hi espiso, it could be that higher multi is more demanding, eventho u are on a dual core, the volts u are giving on the NBv and fsbv are very low @ 475fsb, I should pump a few notches more.. try that first. It could be that 7x multi was less demanding, could be a divider issue.

Hey guys my temps went up 4 degrees in the last 2 days any ideas why,i'm on wc.
TY
I know there are more things that doesnt makes sense to me from this board like the prime issue i got, but back to your issue, 500fsb is with 7x multiplier right, well It could be like I mentioned it was less demanding then 8x multiplier, and did u already try upping the volts? try for example: fsbv: 1.40 and NBv: 1.47/1.49, this isnt much at all even for dual cores at that fsb. I will get my E8500 in a few days and I will try it out at those fsb.
I would check Performance level of ram using Memset. Probably find your TRd is 8 for 450 and 500 but at 475 it is 7 (due to different ram divider). Guessing but worth a check. Lower TRd = higher voltage for the north bridge.
The anandtech article is really good at explaining why some configurations require a much higher north bridge voltage. Remember the main component of the north bridge is the memory controller.
The Anhandtech article could be very good, but it`s hard for me to understand the text completly. I am german and my english isn`t good enough, that would be much work for me to get it understanded.(?)
I can try changing TB level, but I don`t think, that ram will boot then. My ram only works fine with only one TB setting, for example:
1200Mhz Strap 333 needs TB disabled relax1, ALL other settings TB won`t boot.
And 1200Mhz Strap 400 needs TB enabled boost0, ALL other settings TB won`t boot.
Thank you for your help anyway :yepp:
Hey Guys, I have a really strange issue that hopefully someone can help me with.
The problem started last night where after running the system for over 3 weeks completely stable, it just rebooted and the board flashed my bios to 0602. I was previously on 0903 and didn't realize the board flashed the bios, so the system was completely instable afterwards. I flashed the bios to 0907, played some cod4, everything seemed ok. Then I decided to run prime overnight and this morning I found the system to have rebooted with the bios flashed back to 0602.
What would be some reasons for the instability to happen all of a sudden??
Here are my settings:
FSB:450
Mulitplier:8
vcore: 1.39
vpll: 1.6
Boot Strap: 333mhz
Dram: 1086 @ 5-5-5-15
command: 2T
Vfsbt: 1.52
vnb: 1.63 (using 4gig of ballistix 8500)
vdram: 2.13
transaction booster: disabled
dram static read: enabled
My previous settings when it was 3+ weeks stable was the same as above but with a vdram of 2.04 (2.1 actual).
I'm just looking for a few suggestions to try tonight, since I'm at work atm..
Yea man, not joking, but that's part of the features of teh board.
I'm looking for suggestions on why the instability happened in the first place.
hmm odd m8, I have never seen this. But like I said, this board is abit weird, I for example got the Prime95 issue, when going past 1.40vcore... and I dont see peeps with this prob...
how'd you flash 907?
I used the Ez Flash in the bios, but I changed all the settings to default first. That's what I used to flash to 0903 from 05?? when I first got the board..
What exactly is this feature you speak of?
I have some really excellent weed and it wont make my board flash to a previous bios.
Perhaps you need to call some sort of rehab facility?
Really tho all kidding aside maybe a call to Asus and report this rare occurance to them, maybe they can perform an exorcist on the board:rofl:
LOL - Figured out the issue, bro had swapped out the freakin board to a new one!
Poltergeist!!
keep an eye out there very crafty:eek:
Anyone know why im not booting up and getting "COUNTMEM" on the lcd poster?
Basically have to power down go into the bios and exit & save (with actually changing any settings) for it to boot up.
have a very weird problem with Crucial Ballistix Tracer memories, and Crucial Ballistix (non-tracers). I have 4 of each kind (Tracer and non-Tracer).
On Maximus Formula I wasn't able to install all 4 of them.. NEVER ! Tracers or non-Tracers.. If I use 4 dimms then the motherboard doesn't post.
However, the memories work fine on other ASUS X38 board, P5E WS Professional.
On Maximus Formula even dual-channel doesn't work as it should work (I mean dimms 1+3 or 2+4). To have dual channel, I have to use dimms 2+3 !! I know that is weird, but this is the truth.
If I use 1+3 or 2+4, the motherboard doesnt boot or it says single channel mode.
Anyone having this problem with BallistiX memories? Should I RMA the board or it is fixable by a bios update?
Hi, I had issues with mine and earlier versions of the bios, however with 0907 they run just fine...
Chris
I am running 0907 right now. NOTHING changed! I've tried like every bios that was released after the original bios..
Dual channel still works on dimms 2+3, and no 4 installed dimms are allowed. With Tracers and with NON-Tracers, no difference between them.
Update: (2-2-2008) I got it working again, temperamental piece of crap board that this is.
I have had my board for just about 3 months now and it has just died on me. :(
I upgraded to BIOS 0505 the day I assembled the system and overclocked my B3 Q6600 to a conservative 2.88GHz for a 20% overclock with the stock Intel cooler (MX-2 paste) until such time as I installed a better cooler. I was using a 4x 1GB DDR2-1066 Corsair Dominator memory kit with memory ratio to run 1066mhz. I used these setting 24/7 with occasional reboots for Windows updates or configuration changes in OS, never had any need to adjust or update the BIOS since build date.
Well this evening, during a heavy rainstorm, the power went out for a few seconds and the PC lost power. Now the board is unresponsive, I can power on the case, all the LEDs light to green status, I see a flash of orange on the HDD LED activity light but the USB ports dont appear to power up (usually the backlight of my G15 keyboard would come on) and no video output is displayed to my monitors. I have attempted use the CLR_BIOS switch on the back panel (enabled on board) to no avail. I'm convinced the board is dead and will have to contact ASUS. :(

Hi, set the memory volts to 2.0 and loosen off the timimgs, you might try setting the NB volts to 1.47 as well...
Chris
Don't think he can enter the bios if he cannot get it to post... pop the battery leave it out for a night but I think you have the same issue I had with my P5W, also due to several power cuts the board died , lit up all was spinning though no post, took one dimm out reset cmos booted up again but even at stock speeds I needed to up voltages to get it sort of stable, board was RMA'd a week later as it behaved too erratically....
Also what is the error message on the LCd poster ?
Any help would be appreciated.Quote:
I have tried 2 different motherboards using both Bios 505 and 907 and the Maximus Formula will not post with Corsair PC8500 ram. The LCD will read Dram Det and will not post. After a few seconds my monitor light will start to blink which indicates that the PC will not post. It works just fine with Corsair PC6400 ram. Is there something I need to tweak in the bios to get it to properly recognize PC8500?
The PC8500 ram works fine in the P5W DH Deluxe with no problem at all while OC'd.
Ok I tried changing the DimmV from Auto to 1.8V
Change the FSB Strap from Auto to 400MHz
Change DRAM Freq from Auto to DDR2-1066MHz
Place 1 ram into the white slot
None of them worked. It remains stuck at Dram Det. I did a lot of switching to PC6400 set bios, save bios, turn off computer then install one PC8500, then the other, no go. Pop in my PC6400 and it works like a charm!
I have same problem with the corsair 8500C5D , just cannot post, I have to swiched to a different ram to get post.
I notice I have to set the timinng auto or it cannot post , and it does not boot at 1:1 either have to set divider 1100,once it post my Dominator got a lots of error when using memtest3.6 , when the H , rated speed at 1066 can't get to run at 1100.
So I decided to get a pair of Crucial Ballistic 8500, coming this morning , I 'll test it out and see
I figured it out. All you do is use some other working ram and set Dram Voltage to 2.06V. Reboot then turn off the computer once it post. Install the PC8500 Ram and it finally posted! I set Dram Frequency to 887 and FSB Strap to North Bridge to Auto. I noticed something odd. At stock CPU 3.0GHz there is no 1066MHz Dram Frequency for the FSB Strap to North Bridge at all! I looked at the Dram Frequency when I set FSB Strap to 200MHz, 266MHz, 333MHz and 400MHz and none of them allowed me to use 1066MHz Dram Frequency. So I choose 887 (which is FSB Strap 400 I think).
IMO this bios needs work!
Hey guys,
Sorry i aint been about much. Small update in short, next week i sould be here more.
-12c i got 600FSB out the bord, -12c being the NB. CPU was on std water!
I'm still on 903, 907 is tempting and i think i will do it when i drop my E8500 in.
Bord is full wc'd.
I hate the bios and pickyness of the bord, wish Asus would maike things nice and simple and working again.
The naked X38 has an IHS back on it for now but i still belive it's the only one in the world thats naked and working!
Has there been any chnages to thenewer mfgd bord ie has there been a rev 2 or soemthing?
I'm tempted to jump ship to a new rev bord
what is wrong with my Maximus guys ?? every time I set the timing manual 5-5-5-15 it does not boot, LCD poster hang at DET DRAM , but I set auto sometime it boot ok sometime hang DET DRAM at 5-5-5-18
FSB at 460, and by the way , what is the best program to test the ram for stability ? thanks
To everyone here running the Maximus Se with an QX9650... I didn't have this with my Q6600 but I have serious Vdroop now , about 0.3 with the Yorkfield... at the moment it runs stock ( 9 x 333), Vid of the CPU is 1.1250, I set 1.250 and it puts out 1.08 in all monitoring programs.
It even gets worst if I tend to OC... as I need to set 1.4+ voltages to get 1.12 to even boot at 9 x 400... I'm using Bios 0907... it seems that it almost doesn't matter which voltage I set as it has very little impact on the voltage being given to the CPU...
Think I'm gonna put this CPU on the P5K dLx and pop in my Q6600 again on the Maximus... till a proper bios pops up...
Edit :
Tried the CPU in the P5K Dlx, same stuff happens there... this kindda puzzles me, also same temps occur on both boards...with different WC setups 41-39-37-37 coretemps at stock speed idle: EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK
(CPU is folding ) at stock speeds to let her burn in, Vcore set in Bios 1.250 , which gives in windows under zero load : 1.08. Under 100% stress 1.07v pffffffff Temps 46-45-43-43... That's 5°C hotter than my Q6600... At the moment pretty dissapointed in the board. CPU temp wise I think there's a software error there... I really hope there is lol...
noob question so please be kind...
After installing my E8400 and doing some testing I did a clean install of my OS.
After Vista 32bit installed I loaded the drivers from the Maximus CD, after a quick 3dmark run I upgraded my Matrix Storage Manager driver from Intels site.
I now have version 7.8.0.1012 11/9/2007 installed and personally Its a pos.
I have small delays when reading HDD but there not all the time there intermitent, 3dmark is down a few hundred points, so my question is how can I revert to the driver on the cd and not do another clean install?
The folders on the disk are somewhat unclear and alittle adivice would be greatly appreciated.
System restore ?
perhaps it might work, maybe I'll make an backup image b4 I start playing around
Try device manager and the roll back driver button. On my 2 Vista 64 computers the button is active on one and grayed out on the other. 50/50 chance? You could also try reinstalling the old driver over the top. You'll probably get a "The driver you are trying to install is older than the current, do you wish to continue anyway?" prompt. Just click yes. :)
can any of u guys do 1000mhz CL4 trd 7???
weird that this board cant seem to do it.
Yes, very easily, see my sig, each of the OCZ, Crucial and Corsair of the PC2-8500 rating I have OC'd on this mobo do 4-4-4-9 quite well. If you're willing to push the vdimm and have good cooling, you can get 1066 @ 4-5-5-10 with the Crucial Ballistics and at least 4-5-5-15 with OCZ XLC.
Hello and sorry for my bad English.
I have BIOS 0907 installed and now i have 2 problems. The first ist CPU Ratio Control don`t work. I can not the multiplier changing. It`s show aways AUTO. The second problem ist Hardware Monitor. CPU Temp. show from 9C to 11C. What can i do. I will waiting for new BIOS. Wenn will be he realised?
dude i am asking for memtest 1000 percent stable at TRD 8 or TRD7
can u post ure settings and screenshot...
cause cant seem to do with this motherboard.
oh yeah i have a few team PC2-6400 CL3's , OCZ reapers PC2-8500
and a 500fsb capable proc..
only problem that on this board.. is difficult.
For BIOS v0701 and v0907, ASUS BIOS reading of CPU core/s temp (NOT IHS) is normal and most preffered. This is the temp of wich you should be most concerned with when overclocking. I can't speak for Core Temp (app) but for ASUS PC ProbeII and Everest, you can confirm by looking at CPU cores 1 & 2 readings to see that they too are the higher of the "2" readings. The CPU IHS is always gonna' look lower since it is cooled externally. This is normal if you concider that the internal heat is gonna' take a bit to react to the surface heat.

Depends on FSB however NB at auto is always (too) high. Up to ~500FSB about 1.49 for NB should do. 4x1024 likes a tat more.
Transaction booster etc wil make a diff as wel but for 400mhz FSB you should be fine with less on NB i guess. I have it on 1.47 or 49 most of the time for NB, SB 1.050V and SB 1.5 at 1.6v This is with 4x1024 @ 560 mhz 5/5/5/15 and transaction booster diasbled & 1. E8400 9.5X421MHZ.
dude thats trd 10.
trd 9 is boost enabled
trd 8 is boost enabled 1
example.. i can only do this for about 7-9 minutes
TRD 9 and 10 pass for all day long..
but 8..
hmm and again on P35.. trd 7 was easy.
http://img161.imageshack.us/img161/9...6737vu1.th.jpg
Where do or did you get 10 from. If reffering to Read To Write Delay Time, mine in is 8 when set to AUTO. I forget if it changed on various changes of Clock Twister and or primary timings. I do believe relaxing the Booster effects this but haven't tested into depth.
I have noticed that certain BIOS releases have changed how it is set when in AUTO and with Booster disabled and relaxed to "0"
yeah noticed it and also.. i think this was the reason..
so default is 1.2v for vcore with auto at 1.184 for fsb.
i always thought that vtt should be lower than vcore..
as far as i now
try imagine ..
i can get my proc to stable at vcoe 1.25v at 4ghz with vtt 1.216/1.232.....
but it makes the rams go nuts at whatever voltages/gtls i push on PLL, NB, DIMM,,... just cannot be done...
if i leave it to go higher than vcore.. i need to push the vcore to stabilize at 1.296v .. but then mem gets a random errors..
sometimes passes 30 minutes of orthos large fft .. and in another restart fails in 10secs.
new bios need them.
hmm based on e8400 thats tRD 8... moderate+disabled relax 0.
mistake...argghh cant remember.. wasting my time on this proc with this board..
other mobos can do tRD 7..
heck i didnt try it with the 65nm.. should have.
use memset and u will get the performance value aka tRD..
read anandtech latest x48 review on min trd..
give up need new bios..
If the tRD is the "Read To Write Delay Time", it can be manually set to 7. Is this not the same?
Anyone can give me The default voltage for all setting in bios ? (north bridge , south bridge , ....)
I just receive my New E8400 And I will try to beat my previous record of 3975mhz With my E6850 .
default voltage, what do u mean? isnt that just : Load default setup ?
when I go to load default all the setting go to Auto . If I want to raise a little bit more I need to know what the default Voltage first ?
Can I just set everything to auto and check in bios hardware monitor to see what is the default voltage ?
Thanks
Ok , I have put CPU stock speed and put every volt setting to AUTO . here my result in hardware monitor :
CPU : 1.185
CPU PLL : 1.6
North : 1.360
Ram : 2.0
FSB : 1.185
South : 1.072
SB 1.5 : 1.552
After That I put every Voltage manual but To obtain the same Voltage in hardware monitor I need to put different setting , example to obtain 1.185Vcore in I need to put 1.225 in setting .
Here the list of Volt I need to put to obtain the same result :
CPU : 1.225
CPU PLL : 1.56
North : 1.35
Ram : 2.1
FSB : 1.26
South : 1.050
SB 1.5 : 1.5
Noo, do not use AUTO, as this board will overvolt everything!!! as u want to beat your old CPU, start with 445x9 = 4005ghz,
strap: 400mhz, 1.20-1.40FSBv and 1.47-1.49NBv should be enough, really depends on the board and cpu. and try to figure out how much vcore u need, set accordingly SBv: 1.05 SB1.5v: 1.50v, CPU GTL : 0.63x NB GTL: 0.67x, and set CPU PLL: to 1.50 ( as it overvolts crazy lol), transaction booster/ dram read static control: Auto or disable clock twister : auto. And pay extra attention to vDRAM: as it overvolts by 0.08 , here again it depends on what mem u got. These "basic settings" u can use to start.
Right now I am priming with the above setting 468FSBx9 , 1.20FSBv, 1.49NBv, 333 strap, transaction/dram static disabled/ clocktwister strong, so far it works.
I am currently using BIOS 0907, seems to work great, but so are 0802 & 0903 , I tried, but I didnt noticed any differences between those.
