double post ... sorry ... my mistake ...
Which RAM would you recommend for this board an 8 GB setup? I am thinking about this board + Q9550 + 8 GB RAM, but I dont know if it would be stable. I am dreaming about 8.5x480 FSB at 1:1 RAM. Is it possible with 2.1V RAM kits, like the Corsair TwinX 1066 CL5? If not, I think I will go with i7 920, but that woud be much much more expensive...
Nice Zucker2k we have twin quads lol

well i slipped my botcott is over got a ud3r
lets just hope she dont die in less than 3 weeks:rofl:
first boot @500x9 on q9650
now i just need another cooler my tuniq isnt cutin it
can somebody tell me where are the gtl settings lol
zsamz_
go to VTT = 1,20 set .785 on CPU REF and .80 on MCH ref and then go up on VTT and let refs change auto and it will do fine

Get G.Skills the PC2-8500 will do just fine for your needs.
That's sweet; I have nothing, but great respect for that chip of yours :worship:
Very nice chip you got there. Very nice.
zsamz, you owe me a set of d9gmhs for all the grief you've given us for being "gigabut" owners. I'd like to see what Jor3lBR has to say to you. :) Anyway, :welcome: to gigabuttville - we eat quads for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!
Not only do we eat the quads, we eat them at the highest FSB you can imagine and it takes us little tweaking to get there :p:
wait the board is still alive lets see if it will last
we both know failure rate is high on these  i got rev 1.1 so might get lucky lol
i only booted it 1 time waitin on heatsink i dont wanna take heatsinks from other rigs i get my sink on tuesday n aimin for 5ghz on air with the help of my a/c
dont worry i'm sure the board will chew up a pair of my best d9ghm:rofl: thankfully i didnt sell em all i got 6 sets that will do 1200+
before 2008 all boards gigabut made were garbage;) woopdidoo they finally made a board that didnt suk lol
i was averagin a gigabut every 5 weeks so ... cross your fingers n toes lol
1 thing thats reassuring my freinds gigabut is still alive @ 500x8 since i set it up for him i gave him greif for buyin the board lol
i coulda saved money buyin gigabut v-cards but i had to stick to my boycott
damn i shoulda sold my q9650
ya Jor3lBR you told me  but i didnt have a quad and bandwidth still suks on the board:rofl:
Using GB UD3P, G.Skill PC2-8800 DDR2-1100 8GB Memory @ 1.8v running 471FSB 1:1. Perfectly stable.

OMG,i never thought this would happen zsamz!but im glad it didQuote:
well i slipped my botcott is over got a ud3r
you have made a great decision.
Lol zsam you finally made a move:
"You see there is only one constant. One universal. It is the only real truth. Causality. Action, reaction. Cause and effect." Merovingian.
You now have a Quad (cause), you need to buy a UD3 (effect). ;)
Well Elite said it all, bandwidth means nothing with a Quad running at 3.6Mhz... I had sky high bandwidth with my Quad on a DFI that would never pass 450fsb.
Now I have 5Ghz with the same quad and the speed is just not even fair to compare :ROTF: Bandwidth is overrated.
You will really enjoy this board, I hope you have a Quad that can keep up with it
GA-EP45-UD3R - F11
-Improve CPU compatibility
-XHD RAID Support
-Fix Memory-mapped I/O in 32-bit system
Released date:31.Aug 09
Anybody got GA-EP45-UD3P - F10f BIOS?
If yes,please post here.Thanx :D
thanks for posting this new BIOS, stasio. Hopefully, this will address my VDROP and VDROOP issues with my UD3R. 1.4 in BIOS drops to 1.38 in PC Health Status and 1.36 in Windows then VDROOP puts it in 1.34~1.35 :(
EDIT: is this official? How come I don't see it at Gigabyte Taiwan or US' website? Only F9 is there.
EDIT (again): Nevermind, I found out where you got the link through your sig. :)
@zsamz_
You finally made it, :welcome: to Gigabyte, am I the cause for this or is it your quad. :D
Rather easy to get 500 with it, wasn“t it, now you have to have a good set of ram that can do DDR2-1200+, then you can play with the guys at the top. :yepp:
Good luck with your Gigabyte adventure. :)
Hey guys, I dunno how to say this but the new BIOS for UD3R is good. At the same clockspeed, I needed to tune CPU GTL Ref to get this mild overclock stable but with the F11, it just passes everything at stock voltages. Here's one running for 2 hours now. :)
http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/2061/capturesl.png
I left the memory timings loose though because when I put my initial settings with the F9 BIOS, the computer just wouldn't boot so I loosened the timings including tRD settings and stable so far.
How much wattage does your q9650's generally draw on load? cos my Q6600 @ 3.8 w/ 1.45v draws 230watts... It can pass prime small all day, but it never passes linpack, it keeps blue screening with 'UNCORRECTABLE_HARDWARE_ERROR' which always meant not enough vcore at lower clocks. But if i try to increase to 1.472v my pc shutdown at the same point it blue screened.
This is PSU related right? Because atm i have a thermaltake 750w......... im thinking about getting a decent corsair PSU, anything else you guys recommend?
What board are you talking about? For as many people that have this board, i can almost gaurantee it has a lower failure rate than even its higher dollar competitors, from all manufacturers. I've personaly installed 10+ UD3P/R for friends and customers and own 2 P's myself. I havent had any issues. This board is way more reliable than my old maximus II Formula. I went through 2 of them. Also had a bad DFI P45. I've also been using the cheaper Micro Atx UD series boards for motherboard replacements in OEM sysyems. Havent had a failure yet (knock on wood) I was using MSI for the OEM replacements previously, and had a few DOA's with them. So to the point, from personal experience, these UD Series boards are rock solid.
He has some weird thing against Gigabyte, given the track record of these boards being some of the most popular and beaten upon boards and their high rate of non-failure, nobody is really sure why he hates them so much except himself
Probably because they overvolt RAM a little so he fries his D9's that would've fried anyway since he doesn't compensate for the overvolting

Im not sure what I could adjust for stabilty or bring up for additional performance, ive overclocked in the past but not since my AMD Athlon XP3000 and i've had a few rigs since then but im not fimilar with alot of these terms and had done lots of readings and found this "Blend" to work well thus far. Please let me know if anything stands out as a sore thumb.
Also I have a very nice high air-flow 10,000 RPM fan screwed into the Northbridge heatsink it stays very cool, (Pulled the blue gigabyte label\metal cover off).
My CPU temps are at idle roughly 32c, load 50.
Thanks!
a freind of mine has a pc shop and 10% has some sort of failure mostly no post
just remember these machines runing stock that fail lol
i recomended to him the ep45 series n hes happy with sales and keeps alot of em in stock but you should see the boxes full of rmas:rofl:
p5q vanila has alot of usb ethernet failures
msi to me is is mostly crap voltage regulators
as for my failures 5 p35c-ud3r boards average 5 weeks each:rofl:
i had a x38-d6q and was happy when it died after 3 weeks
i know the ud3X series are good but quality control is bs either you get a good board or
i gave gagabut another chance only because after 10+ years of their boards they finally made a good board lol
i learned not to trust the so called overclockers that were sponsored by gigabut they were praising the p35 series and the x38 series  even a whore will tell you shes good lol or her pimp will woop her ass
i trusted a few freinds from xs that told me the board was good ;)
tool:i'm no noob i never trusted windows or bios voltages
its easy to use a dmm;)
if a board kills a set after 3 days @ 2.24v real or a set every few weeks and ram never went over 28c its a POS to me mushkin greg knows verry well how many sets of munshkin were eaten and was nice sent me a pair of redlines instead of my xp2-8500
i'm guessing you never had a p35-ds3r
I dont know if this has been posted before, but here are some real voltages on a UD3R 1.1 (F6 bios if it matters). Tested with a DMM and when I get time Ill test my UD3P 1.0.
Code:BIOS Idle Load
vcore 1.400 1.408 1.416
pll 1.450 1.475 1.533
1.500 1.577 1.634
1.570 1.597 1.655
nb 1.300 1.326 1.341
vtt 1.300 1.328 1.347
vdimm 2.200 2.236 2.244
is it normal for vdimm readings to be high in the bios? I set vdimm @ 1.9v, but bios reports 1.94~ No biggie really
im using rev 1.6 with FDa bios, so its probably just an error in the beta bios.
from reading this they used a dmm and voltages were pretty much right on target with a different bios. Im going to check it in the morning
http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...review-15.html
it looks like it because it overvolted the VCC values but i don't know why the rest of the voltages are incremented. As far as I know (which really isn't that far), loadline calibration is for the VCC only and not on the other voltages. These increments may be because of an early BIOS which is why I asked to try out the latest ones (F9 and the recent, F11).
LLC was enabled and Ill try to test F9 tonight. My board is still mounted in the case so I used the points from here, http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/revie...html#post42137.
yeah, those were the same read points i use but the problem is with my DMM, the lowest setting for voltage reading is 20v but the manual says it's capable of reading small values automatically. still, i don't trust it completely. oh and thanks for taking the time to test it with different BIOS version.
ahh need help getting 500FSB stable.

crashes on OCCT quite fast. And often get reboot loops, but right now its running prime for about 30 mins.
what should i tweak in these settings? Should i crank vtt up or less? my understanding was Cpu VTT should be about 0.04v of actual vcore for stability.
i played with cpu ref and mch ref, but anything besides normal= NO boot at all.
I'm quite alarmed at having to pump 1.42v into MCH just to get into windows=[ So i might back it down to 450x8 for 24/7 use. Passed over 8 hours prime small FFT with that, on much lower voltages across the board.
well anyway time to go to the pub! hopefully when i get back somebody will have chimed in.
well i didnt get to the pub lawl.
anyway i fell back to 451 fsb for now because i need to get some gaming in.
now S3 sleep dont work
just turns on and off when i come out of sleep.
the PSU is fine, its something with this board. Im starting to think maybe rev 1.6 sucks compared to the earlier ones.
I just ordered this motherboard, you are scaring me man. I really, hope this one I am getting is not a piece of $hit like the one I just got from Asus man. I can't get past 460FSB stable on this thing when the one I cross shipped back to them did 480 all day with out an issue...
StrangeLife: use s1.
I am not familiar with the q6600, but for the 45nm quads these boards are the best.
Voltages did not change with the F9 bios.
edit: I guess my original ground was a poor choice, now getting closer readings.
Code:bios idle load
vcore 1.400 1.387 1.380
pll 1.450 1.455 1.501
1.500 1.557 1.604
1.570 1.578 1.623

vtt 1.300 1.308 1.311
vdimm 2.200 2.215 2.207
the bios to actual voltages are pretty close minus pll assuming those updated ones are correct.
I will try S1, just set it.
even at 400fsb im getting lock ups now at the desktop with correct settings.
but not at stock/optimized defaults.
last night i was playing around with 550FSB but used all AUTO!
i didnt stress test at these settings, just booted into windows to run super pi.
also ran 8+ hours last night after that with the settings close to what i posted above @ 451FSB, passed fine. Now things have gone down hill, sleep doesnt work..and getting freeze issues.
hope my cpu isnt toast.
dont worry haha
im probably just dont know what I'm doing. I would say try this mobo.
Im going to try another cpu maybe see if its my chip..which i doubt. These Q6600's are tuff customers, would be weird to burn one out, especially with the mild oc's ive ran on it. Although its over 2 years old, so who knows.
thinking i might just return the board tuesday. And put together a Lynnfield set up in a month or two. Once prices settle.
Anyone use the hard drive maintenance program "SpinRite" with the Gigabyte EP45-UD3R motherboard?
A poster on another forum says that the F9 bios on this board is detected as being defective:
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.as...hreadid=2332415
http://www.grc.com/sr/kb/badbios.htm
excellent voltage readings . just one question; do you have the voltage settings at auto? i still don't understand why the PLL voltage slightly increases during load. try to hard set or type in the nominal values instead of leaving the other voltages on auto.
i'll try to get a reading on mine later then compare it here. i have all the voltages hard set and the only ones on auto are DIMM reference and GTL reference. BIOS version is F11, btw. (F11 seems to handle GTL ref very well at auto, i spent days tweaking GTL reference settings with F9).
edit: were you using a fan header (ground) as your ground on the readings?
Recently had my UD3P rev 1.0 die on me after 8 months of use.
Installed a rev 1.6 board a week ago, using bios FDa with a q9650, 2x2gb Gskills
Not sure i can have much input on comparing the 2 revisions as I believe my rev 1.0 was a bit borked from the start. Went from using 4x1gb d9's on the rev 1.0 to 2x2gb on rev 1.6 also
But a few things I did notice
Voltage readings per everest and HWMonitor show the +12v reading @ 12.54 idle on th rev. 1.6 versus 12.14 with a drop to 11.97 load on the rev. 1.0. The DDR voltages seem to hold more constant under load on the rev 1.6 also
Friggin heatsink on the nothbridge was installed backwards (upsidedown) Couldn't twist the sucker off, lines up correctly either way it seems so I cleaned her up, applied TIM. system temps max out at 41C load versus 47C load on the rev. 1.0
As TalBar mentioned in an earlier post, GTLREF % might need to be set a bit higher on the UD3P rev. 1.6. Running a CPU_REF OF .66% and MCH about .65% seems to be stable for me FWIW.
Able to OC my Q9650 at same voltages as rev 1.0.
System 20x linpack, 12 hours large fft prime, memtest stable. And 4 hours of Crysis & Warhead stable :)
Hopefully those that are more informed than me will be adding more rev 1.6 info. And the bios mutures a bit. With the Beta bios I am running I am just going to be trying to lower some of my voltage. Then I will push it a bit with a final bios.
I have only playing with this board for 6 days but feel gigabyte sent me a strong stable board this time.

Starting with rev1.1 they flipped the NB HS upside down. IDK why but they are all this way.
For better CPU heatsink compatability...
I have a "little" problem with an EP45-UD3P rev 1.0
Flashed it with f10e BIOS... upon reboot it would power on, stay on for abour 2 secs, then reboot again... over and over again.
Powered off, cleared CMOS, now it won't power on. At all.
Anyone has experienced something similar? Any way out (apart from the obvious RMA that is)...
It's going to be fun to undo three loops to take the damned thing out otherwise LOL
Edit: NVM, I managed to do a Lazarus with the board. Good old DFI NF2 times teaches patience :P
No damage mate---did you flashed on Qflash ? or Flashspi ? i asume so...
If not take both sticks of ram and put just one on the other slot not the ones you've been using that will make it come again if its all correct, if you have OTHER memory the better...
Cheers

I'm getting problems with my PC just spontaneously rebooting when running linpack with 1.45vcore or more. Tested at 400x9, which is linpack stable at 1.344v, if i increase voltage to more than 1.44v PC will reboot after a couple of minutes of linpack :( I previously thought it was my PSU not providing a clean enough current, but after buying one for £95 (corsair TX750W), it still does it. Does this sound like my VRM's are overheating? Any help or advice will be appreciated.
EDIT: oh and it's not CPU temps, max i got during linpack was 78c which isn't enough to make my pc reboot.
Just got my hands on a q9650, IIRC, same batch as you ocnub... L847C037 with a vid of 1.15.
This replaces my old L826A965 with a vid of 1.25.
I'm excited. I'll post as soon as I get it.
hopefully it will do a bit better than the old one.
Hi thanks,
I'm pretty sure the memory sub-system is stable at 400x9, i gave the NB a bump anyway just in case. I only found that it kept resetting when i was trying 3.8ghz on linpack with 1.45vcore (passed prime95 small ftt's for 8hours). That's when i tried 3.6ghz with the same voltage, and it resets on linpack when vcore is above 1.45ish :/ It normally does it on the 3rd test (other tests passed as well).
Anyway, will be getting a 45nm quad soon so most probably won't have to use above 1.4v, and temps should be better.
ps. Is it important to keep VTT close to vcore regardless of FSB? as i was using stock when i was trying 400x9 with 1.45vcore.
Awesome vid, Congrats. Hope you have great success with it.
Oztopher, I am not familiar with the q6600 but I try and keep the vtt below 1.360v for daily use on my 45nm quads. I know with the q9650's anything above 65-70c will cause it to become unstable, thats why I thought it may be the issue.
Ahh i see, thanks mate ;)
Guess i'll stay at 450x8 for now then, until i get my 45nm'er.
I've had my eye open for it since seeing what ocnub has done with his.
As soon as I located one (another forums f/s section), I bought it. It happened to have been a seller who I've dealt with before, so I was quick to pull out the cash.
I found some stability at 4.2Ghz

Your mch ref looks to be a little high. Try it at .80 with default cpu termination of 1.20 then raise the termination back up to where you are now. I always default the cpu termination to 1.20v then set the refs. Everything else looks good, nice job.
I need help...I am not sure what I am doing wrong but the chip is a little warm and the FSB just won't budge. Can anyone improve my settings?

Machinus, I really think you need more MCH voltage...also what is your PL set to?
Performance level...its known in the BIOS as Static tRead value under in advanced timing control...also what RAM do you have...you should put your system specs in your signature
Your MCH might be too low based on what Ive seen from other setups in this thread...you might want to take the time to do so, as i did, at least from page 50
Your reference voltages for CPU and MCH are off. try setting default vtt 1.20v and try .785 cpu ref and .80 mch ref, then raise vtt back up, leaving ref's alone. a bump up or down a notch can make a difference in stability. The other ref's leave auto until you get some stability at your desired oc, then learn them. You may need more mch. You will probably be able to lower vcore and vtt with the correct reference voltages.
If you take the time to look through this thread all the answers are here.
Downloaded RealTemp vs 3.0, cant find my VID.
Where in the picture the VID is located I have a time counter going up.
Correction.
VID is 1.25 at my clocks in my previous post, I do not know if my voltage modification has changed or if it is possible to change my VID.
I'm in now. Chip should be here Friday. I already have the ram (gskill9600 PI) but the board is an ud3R not a ud3P though. We'll see. I expect good things. I really want 4500 stable for daily use (under 1.4v in cpuz). it should be simple after dealing with this high vid chip.
I'm going to be adding another radiator in the process too. Right now I'm cooling my gtx285 with a koolance fc block inthe same loop as my pc on a dtek v2. I'll be adding a mcr220 to my current mcr320 for added cooling power.
I'll post pics of my new baby when she arrives.
I'm on vista 64, do you guys think I'd see better oc results from 7?
I preordered already for this machine, just waiting till release. My real issue with it is that I play bf2142 pretty frequently, and I've read it won't let punkbuster work properly with 7 (it sees it as non-retail o/s and kicks you a lot).
well was fun while i had it. Returned the board. S3 sleep wouldnt work no matter what setting i played with. Only would work bone stock @ 266 fsb.
for some that might not be a big deal, but borked sleep mode is a deal breaker for me. I wonder if i had a bunk board? Back on my P35 and everything stable and working good.
going to get a lynnfield set up
BIOS available today:
GA-EP45T-UD3P - F8c
GA-EP45-UD3P - F10f
Thanks.
Scared to flash mine from F9c...I got a corrupted BIOS and it reverted to the backup BIOS so I don't know how to get the other one working again, lost all my profiles :(
Lately my board has been hanging on cold boot too, takes a few hard resets sometimes to get it to get past the memory check, usually just stops after it recognized the CPU and sits all day long
You might try backing the FSB down a little, and see if it continues or not. My P35 DQ6 deffinately had the same issue towards the end of me having it though no doubt about it. I was curious about the revision of your board based on your over clock though if you were wondering. I am just hoping this revision isn't crap compared to the 1.0 that is.
Heh guys...if i pass windows memtest (4instances) 200% does that mean my Vdimm, timings, MCH ref, MCH voltage is spot on?
Ok guys i tested this OC for an hour + on prime blend BIOS F10f...then decided to go back to F10B using Qflash...after restart SAME DAMN PROBLEM " BIOS RECOVERING AND F10e CAME BACK" I NEVER EVER HAVE THIS PROBLEMS BEFORE FLASHING F10e GIGABYTE PLEASE FIX this its an awesome board doesnt diserve this...
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/6373/captura1r.png
Ok guys i flashed back to F10b and that OC that i can pass on F10f i cant pass it on F10b, it fails in seconds...so i think that they adjusted something, thats why latencies are lower...So only thing they must fix is have the original bios as backup and not F10e.
Cheers
Sergio
Nope mate, there a lot of users on other forums reporting the same i started to get that when installed F10e, and talked to stasio and its like that. If i leave F10e or F10f wich im on now nothings wrong...but somehow this bios allowed my to do fine on 8,5multi and a little more on mem divider 2,50A wich sucked badly needed lots of volts...
Thank you
Sergio
For me f10f allows stable work with 2.4D memory divider:

It's me or after some time voltage droop slightly increases ?
I had set prime95 running earlier today, I have just come to the PC and it is off. I turned it on via the power button and prime95 resumed from where it left off.
I have checked the BIOS and all power management features have been turned off, EIST etc.
Is this a Windows 7 issue or a BIOS setting?
