its 2T...just that 1T/2T isn't really 1T/2T, its just another timing that is actually 1N/2N mode according to Intel spec i believe.

all my problems with stability solved - one of my memories was damaged and caused unstability! With new ddr3 corsairs i am at 450MHz with pretty low voltages ...
Hey guys , whats the deal with new bios version...did they put on the right one cus I checked and they have different size for extreme/formula ?
825,948 ME0907.zip
825,882 MF0907.zip
It seems to be wrong named cause u can not flash it and all former ME BIOSes have aprox. 850kb.
Tnx for the answer...strange tho that Asus doesn't correct its mistake.
Now something happend on the ASUS-FTP :
ME0907 had been deleted.
and 0905 ist new ( haven´t tried yet )
ME0905
hehe someone goin to try it? :)
I'd try it, I have a fresh install/build so nothing to loose, but the damn website never works fine... get a timeout everytime i try to download it...
I have flashed 0905 ... realized no change so far.
edit :
now I realized that Vcore seems to be higher than before ( 0,01V ) and absolutly no vdroop !
I have a QX6850, this board, cellshock 1800 ram and 2x 1gb 2900xt in CF and i am having the same problems as you OBR. I find anything over 430/440fsb i hit stability problems. Also having major issue's with the ram. When i do a ram test with OCCT after 15 mins it always seems to crash. even with loose timings of 8-7-6-21 i am hitting the same issue's. The problem is i am running 2.10volts through my ram i do not want to run more then that for 24/7 use. Also tried switching the ram sticks, no difference. Does anyone have any idea's where i am going wrong?

well, here is something that has made me look stoopid for the last couple days. i couldn't figure out why i couldn't get certain clocks 32M stable on a bunch of different kits of memory that i had in the past...apparently switching from BIOS 0803 to 0904, the vDIMM now only overvolts 0.06v instead of the full 0.10v that it use to. took me only two days to figure that out
so now the question is, Everest still reads the full 0.10v over what is selected in the BIOS but the board is supplying 0.04v less...is there anyway to put an offset on the vDIMM reading in Everest so the reading displays the correct voltage and i don't have to add the vDIMM to a small text file? i am digging through the .ini file now without much luck. any ideas???
the real kicker is that the testing i did for the OC Report for the Ballistix in my signature was actually 0.04v less than i had previously thought...
it was actually only 2.06v
as soon as the sun comes up i will take a couple pics of the vDIMM read points i have been using. they read exactly what the VDD from the actual DIMM slot is reading.
the measured voltage is now 0.04v lower than what Everest/BIOS are reporting. before, the measured voltage was bang on with what Everest/BIOS were reporting.
for example...
BIOS set...BIOS/Everest...DMM measured
1.74v......1.84v..........1.80v
1.90v......2.00v..........1.96v
i'm using a calibrated RMS multi-meter from a VDD pin on an open DIMM slot. you can also use the circled capacitors for measuring as they report the same as the VDD pin:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...me_vdimm-1.jpg
there are a bunch of capacitors up and down the DIMM slots that work as well, just probe around if these don't work for you. these ones are easiest to get at on the outside of the white DIMM slot in-between the slot and the 24-pin connector.
So that's 3 people with and 6850 spec CPU that's having similar issue's. I am more concerned with the memory though tbh as i know the qx6850 can be quite limited after 3.8ghz, I should have hung on and waited for Intel's next gen 45nm CPU's, but i'm not patient enough :)
Ha anyone interested in buying an QX6850 :D
I haven't tried the 0905 update yet I will let someone else test it first.
Made some wierd expirience with 0905 :
I flashed it ... and keept some time normal surfing and using my pc... nothing special so far ... when I got some time off I though " Hey man, let´s see if 0905 brings some better performance in oc"
So I started to oc a bit further ( starting from 400MHz FSB ) ...
I set 450 and checked it with OCCT - within five minutes I got errors.
So I switched some values und checked again : error
Then I got down to 425 cause I know my CPU can do this @ 1,43Vcore : errors !
Telling long story short - after it seems to be impossible to get a stable sys (and I ran out of time ) I loaded my profile@400MHz ( which was stable ).
But now I got errors in usual Windows-"work".
I got a bit confused and thought it must be the BIOS-version.
So back-flash to 0803, load profile : errors in OCCT
flashed to 0904 , load profile : errors again
I started to get affraid that something got broken ...
I reduced to only one Cellshock 1800-Kit and again OCCT : no errros
I changed the RAM-Ports with the same RAM-KIT : no errors
My conclusion : the fault is not the CPU, not the MB and not RAM-Kit No1
To verify I changed to RAM-Kit No2 ...
no errors neither in the one blue nor in the white RAM-Ports.
OK... very wierd : it not the MB, not CPU, not RAM-Kit No1 and not RAM-Kit No2 !
In the end after all : all works fine @ BIOS 0905 now again.
Very strange behavior of the MB.
U r scaring me man o_O
This mobo is weird at all, i am now fully stable at 450MHz with new memories. But nothing more, i need 500MHz but is not possible ... i will test X38 DFI instead of Asus ... will see
ME1001.zip out on asus tw ftp..
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/so...ximus_Extreme/
did u try it??
Nope :P
tried, nothing improved by me ...
but did it install without problems? the ME1001 i mean..?
Flashing 1001 was no Prob @ all.
But I did not find any improvement either.
 Man, 0904,0905,1001.........each 2 weeks a new BIOS, what up with the ASUS guys?
Can't even flash that fast..............:p:
With 904 i saw the same divider issues that i had with 903.
not sure what Asus is improoving with this bioses
Flashed 1001.. liiiittle lower temps and... before with 904 @ default was 3005 mhz, now 2999 mhz.. i know it's stupid but i hate it
With 1001 my board gained about 15Mhz FSB . With bios 905 i couldn't run 530 , but now i'm at 545Mhz
Flashed 1001, so far CPU temp is bad, i'm on a stock QX9650 with a room temp of 25ºC and BIOS shows 18ºC.
 0905 also reads wrong temps - on 1001 EZ flash does not work...
Think it's time for the ASUS guys to develop a working BIOS.....
So whats the verdict on 1001 and quad cores anyone tried it yet and does it help in the FSB arena for quads?
Sorry for the double post but I as it turns out I am stumped...
Whats the trick to get 4gb of ram to overclock as well as 2gb?
I can run any 2 sticks fine at 1800 (8-7-6-12 1t) and vDimm = 1.90 (1.96 real) but when I run 4 sticks it wont pass memtest at anything higher than 1700 (8-8-8-20 2t).
Is it something in my vdimm ref settings on the channel basis?
Perhaps I need more vFSB when I am running more ram...
Any of you guys running 4gbs at high overclocks and 1t without any issues if so can you point me in the right direction?
You need to raise the Vnb also ... but I don´t get 4GB running on 1T either - so I got the command line on 2T.
yeah.. had the same problem. raised NB volts to 1.65 in BIOS(1.67-1.68 real) and VDimm to 1.88 in BIOS (1.9x in real).. passed memtest 5 passes (2 hours).. seems stable to far....
forget 1T with 4 sticks
Thats just it i dont want to forget 1t and i dont want to settle for anything lower than 7-7-7-14 1t and 1800mhz.
Regarding nb thats not the trick.
Has anyone tried the vdimm ref? I had better results but not my target yet..
with 4 sticks ur simply dreaming... u wont get it to run @ 1T period..
Vnb did the trick for me and running stable now with 4 sticks.
At the end does somebody understand wich is the best bios for this motherboard?
0702, 0904, 0905 or 1001?
I was trying to reach some nice fsb with my board . Still max fsb was stuck at 550Mhz (memtest dos ) . I couldn't make it work even at 555 .
So ... disabled usb from bios , and made it up to 570 FSB . Not so stable , but at 565 it could run many loops in memtest .
I think the bios needs more work for high fsb .
Please try to reproduce this .
TY.
Ok, now im sooo frustrated! I AM SO MAD dammit.......
please someone , WHY arent Ezflash working..it JUST wont , it just hangs everytime i enter it, and i have to reset, every single :banana::banana::banana:ty time.......dont get it really dont, windows and ALL windows finds my usb with no prob, format copy whatever it just works so well, but in dos or bios, it doesnt exist....AND I know it works, couse i have used it several times with this board, and suddenly it wont freakin work anymore, Nomather wHAT im freakin out here! WHY... i cant flash the stupid ass board, do i have to burn a CD WITH afudos every single time? this is :banana::banana::banana: , and im so tired 2,30AM and ive been sitting with this crap and gets more and more annoyed, WHY ARE THEY MAKING such stupid thing if it aint working!!!!!!
zzzzzz
bye
hiya infa its good to let off a bit of steam why don't you use an older asus update i'm using Asusupdt61002 ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/fl...sUpdt61002.zip which all you have to do is go into options and select bios downgradable and you can go back to previous bioses even if older , , used it with the maximus no problem only thing is make sure your windows is stable when flashing in windows
:D Haha, buy some Vodka - might help You a lot:p: . Last working EZ flash was on 0904, all later versions = no go. But You only have to flash in WIN with ASUS UPDATE the same version You are running - during flash kill Your system with a reset. This board has a crash free BIOS - all You have to do after that is to insert Your ASUS DVD and system will automaticly flash BIOS from the DVD. After that You can flash any later version You like. Tried it myself - working perfectly;) .
I flashed my card with 1001 and ez flash.. than i went back to 702 with asus update =/
Hmm, ok im still tired couse i did only sleep 3hrs... and i want to know how to do when i get home, i am going to smash that POS if it makes any trouble when i get home....
So Asus update works? and dont kill the board as ive read all over places?
Can i use an earlier Asus update as mentioned above, and it will work?
the problem i have arent that i cant backflash, its that i cant flash it at all..
if EZflash wont work, and bios wont find my USB stick, in lost, only way are to burn a cd with afudos and latest bios.... but i will try Asus update when i get home.....
regards.
yes infa asus update works but only the older version i have listed above in my post , install it then go on options and select bios dowgradable andf thats it
Ok, thanks, does it work to update with the older update too?
yes you can go back to older bioses i have flashed about 6 times in maximus, to be safe downclock to be safe so you know windows is stable before you flash, only people i have heard having problems are people flashing at 4.1 ghz etc, i have probably used this asus update 50 times (i had a p5w dh ) before this board
no i meant if you can use the older asus Update to flash upwards to, or do you need the new one for that? thats all :)
EDIT: Glenboy worked like a charm to flash, havent backflashed couse it dont work any better than the bios that the board came with, 602 i think.. my conroe sucks on this board, OR the cpu died by changing boards? :)
Just for kicks and giggles i flashed to 1001.
Very unstable bios..now for some fun and try and flash backwards back to 0904 :)
Loving my board, running 3870's in crossfire, getting some good performance in Crysis @ 1900x1200.
3dMark06 scores around 18,500 - 19,000 - with my q6600 clocking in at 3.84ghz.
Just checked my bios, it's 0403 - seems old now that there's a 1000 version available.
Think I should do a flash? I suppose the ASUS updater is the way to go?
Cheers for all the information :o)
Can anybody that has successfully OC'd a quad and using 4gb post their bios settings? Just got back from Singapore and brought back a max extreme and I gotta say that this board is a lot harder to tweak 4gb than the P5E3 Deluxe. I can't even get this board to go more than 350 FSB and boot into windows.
I know the the cpu can go at least 425 FSB because i was using it on a 780i.
I'm pretty sure that this is an issue related to the 4gb of ram.
any help would be appreciated!
ok so i found out that if i drop my memory speed to 1081 with a 333 FSB Strap i can prime this baby for at least an hour. Huge step from not being able to even boot when set to 1600, but this blows!
Anything above 1081 won't boot. I've tried everything from 1.71v on NB and all the way up to 2.38v on the mem and no go.
I guess i can't complain too much cuz the q6600 is running 4GHz stable with only 1.52v. Not too shabby!:D
Anyone have any input about my little memory issue??? Please???
I have that feeling too, that x38 are made for 45nm and not conroes.. :)
yes I am and Sduperis 2.
 Now I'm back on 0904 again - tried 1001 but while OCing my system it killed my RAID 0:( - so I had no chance to backup my system. Had to delete RAID & lost all data:mad: - new installation took time again.
All after 0904 is buggy - temp reading is wrong, EZ flash doesn't work and maybe there are some hidden bugs I even don't know..........
Think it's time for the ASUS guys to do somthing on it - very annoying that later versions cause malfunction.......
i am now second week pretty stable at 450x9 with QX9650 ... voltages of everything is only in "yellow" numbers ... Mems are on 20-7-7-7-2T at 1800MHz ... with latest bios 1001
Well guys I just fired up my Maximus Extreme for the first time late last night and finished installing Windows about an hour ago! The board came stock with 0501 which is obviously very old so I'm going to flash it after I get done posting here. I have indeed read through the thread but I didn't memorize everything unfortunetly as there is lots of great information posted!
At the moment I've only got one question regarding the flashing of my board to the 0904 BIOS. If I'm going to flash using the Window Updater should I still be using the version that Glenboy mentioned on the previous page (HERE) or is the version on the installtion CD just fine? I realize there is a few different ways to do it but I've used the Windows Updater in the past and its worked quite well for me with very little trouble! Thanks guys, looking forward to posting intitial results tonight!
Roger_D25: If you have a USB stick copy the bios to the USB stick enter the Bios and tab to the last menu and select EZ Flash.
It will allow you to select the BIOS from the USB stick so that you can flash it.
As a last resort use the windows flash from the cd or flash from a floppy drive.
Thanks very much guys, your help is greatly apprecaited! I indeed flashed using the method you mentioned instead of using Asus Updater. After posting my original question I realized I haven't even had time yet to test stability (despite the fact all my BIOS settings are at default settings). Before starting to work through the "Extreme Tweaker" settings I wanted to load Windows, drivers, software, etc... With that said the flash went just fine and I'm not running BIOS 0905.
alright guys...now perhaps i am retarded, damn good chance, but i am stumped.
i actually have the sound card installed, first time for everything, and installed drivers and have the little black hawk interface crap all working great. Vista X64 BTW. but when i plug headphones into the rear green port, it tells me to plug them in the front. the software is setup to accept headphones in the front slot and there doesn't appear to be a way to change it to the rear green slot.
i obviously don't have a front panel seeing as the motherboard is sitting on a box and for the life of me, i can't tell the software to use the rear green port for headphones. the manual even goes as far as saying that the system will designate the headphones for front panel use...but hen goes on to say that some systems might not have a front panel. geee, thanks Asus
how about listing how to change the port configuration so you can use headphones through a rear port instead of pointing out the obvious.
so...any help here guys. i just love how Asus will always make you feel like a tool at some point with their boards.
Ditto, and I'm used to running DFI boards, crazy! I just spent about 1.5hrs trying to figure out the corrrect way to set up the first 4-6 settings in BIOS (Extreme Tweaker)! I'm still not sure but I'm getting there, with that said this is the first time I've said to myself, man I wish this was as easy as setting up my DFI, lol!
3oh6,
I just read through pages 5-12 to 5-20 in the manual thinking I might be able to help you out but it doesn't seem to mention anything specifically for the setup of headphones? I assume you have played with the "Jack Configuration" menu in the audio software? Out of everything I read that seems to be your best bet! This is why I've always tried to just use an aftermarket soundcard, lol! Good luck man.
thats the thing, there is no jack configuration to be found in the Vista version of the software. there appears to be jack configuration in the XP version of the software and as soon as i go back to XP with this board i will check but i am testing some GPUs now and Vista it has to be.
i never have sound enabled for SPi or 3D benching, obviously, and that is all this motherboard normally does. it just happens to be loaded with all the latest games and has monster video cards laying in wait so i figured why not take advantage...but COD4 just sucks without sound :)
anyone else run into this?
Its just not the same without sound, with that said you must have a Sound Blaster X-Fi lying around amidst all that uber high-end hardware you have?
On a somewhat separate note guys I'm getting very high CPU temps, even at absolute stock settings? I uninstalled PC Probe II because I just didn't like it but according to both CoreTemp (0.96.1) and Everest Ultimate 4.20 my idle temps are between 45C-48C (3.0Ghz @ 1.125v)? I'm currently on watercooling and it's a somewhat decent cooling loop. My old E6850 at 3.6Ghz on the DFI under same H20 system ran at 23C-26C at idle and never even peaked above my current idle temps under full-load? I've re-seated my waterblock a few times with no luck. Plus my GTX which is in the same loop still has the same temps as it did in my old system (36C-38C)? Am I the only one suffering from this on this board? Thanks guys for any help or suggestions...
elllo m8
I just tested this with a P5N32-E SLI board which also uses Soundmax
I installed these drivers dated 18/01/2008 on the FTP:
ftp://ftp.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/aud...0162_Vista.zip
When the AudioESP window popped up asking me what I had plugged into the green jack, instead of leaving the default option for front panel headphones, I chose the option for Front Speakers (L/R) / Rear Headphones

you know, i don't use my benching rigs for anything except benching and the on-board sound on my killer single core 2x512MB socket 939 daily rig does me just fine for my needs so no, not a sound card in the building...until they make one that helps with SPi times ;)
bloody hell Paul you make me feel so dumb sometimes :). i knew it was something stoopid like that. i could have swore i read through the options carefully and did not see anything for headphones and rear slot and i know i tried that option before but silly me had the 'independent headphones' selected as the default sound device at the time which sends all audio to the front panel jack :shakes: .
give me a BIOS with a million options and i will figure out what it all does in a weekend...ask me to get headphones to work with a fancy soundcard and i am a starving monkey holding a banana with mitts on.
lol, sorry m8
sometimes its so easy to miss what's right in front of you :confused2 i've done it loads of times
btw, i noticed you mention the black hawk interface above.
i think the driver link i posted may be newer as it has a new interface for vista and DTS connect

Bios 905
Patriot Extreme Series DDR3 1333 7-7-7-20 1.7v
I'm running my memory at 1.8v (4x1GB sticks) but the monitor in the bios says 1.9v. Everest gives me the same reading 1.9v.
What's up with .1 descripency?
The memory is rated at 1.7v but with 4 sticks I have to run it at 1.8v(default timings) or Vista x64 won't boot. Am I missing something in the bios or is this nature of the beast?
The actual(monitor) readings are what scare me, it's not leaving much room to push it. I wanted to give my qx9650 a mild overclock say 9.5 multiplier, 400fsb and have the memory running at 1600mhz as well.
PS) Forgive my nube overclocking skills...
anyone tried beta bios 1002?
ftp://ftp.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socke...eme/BE1002.zip
forgot to add i want 0904 back if this doesnt work as 1001 sucks, just means my e8500 wont recokgnise right?
on BIOS 0904, setting 1.80v in the BIOS shows 1.90v in the monitor like your board. Everest just reads the same thing as the BIOS. but a digital multi-meter reading from the actual slot reads only 1.86v. with an older BIOS i was getting a digital multi-meter reading exactly what the BIOS/Everest was reporting.
you won't know unless you measure with an accurate DMM but chances are that the board is supplying about 0.05v~0.06v more than what you set in the BIOS. if you do have a DMM and want to measure, i posted some images of measure points somewhere in this thread...here it is:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&postcount=315
The voltage discrepancies have already been pointed out so i'll just answer the other issue.
Unfortunately with 4 GB's or ram you will be limited in what you can achieve in an overclock. For example with 2GB of my Crucials installed I can pass memtest for 2 hours at 1.9 vdimm (real) and 1800 7-7-7-20 however with 4gbs installed I am not stable at 1700mhz 8-8-8-20 and 1.94 (real). Consequently I dropped my OC and Ram down to 400x12 (quad pumped 4 x 400 or a 2:1 ratio to get 1600) 1600mhz 7-6-5-15.
I believe the issue is with the mem controller because increasing NB voltage doesn't help me. I did recieve better stability when I tinkered with the memory ref voltage on a per channel basis but its not an exact science and you will need to try different settings for best results.
anybody else using an e8500 with this board , i have an e8400 and temps and volts are what you'd expect , but tried the e8500 instead and the temps at same voltage as e8400 are a lot lot higher but goes to higher mhz on lower volts , wondering if this is a bios issue or whether i've got an e8500 which isn't making proper contact with the chip and heatspreader on the cpu, remounted 3 times to make sure, weird the e8500 needs 1.48 volt real to super pi at 4.6ghz whereas the e8400 needs 1.6 volt real to do the same but even with the lower volts on the e8500 its as hot if not hotter as the e8400 which has another .12 volts going through it, weird
Got my E8500, gets it to 4750 with minimum 1.60v , but then i cant go further couse the system just hardlocks at 500 nomather what, i really think its the mobo, no bluescreen no nothing, just hardlock as soon as i put it on 501 :)
reaaal mobo issue...
ah well, yes temps are as bad for me too... i got my 24/7 clock now at 4,3Ghz and landing on a 1.45v, Temps are 37-40c idle, and 65c Loaded. high for such a low current, maybe 45nm are more sensetive against voltage :)
cheers infa , i have now put the e8500 back in and gone back to 905 bios now from 1001 currently on auto vcore , now showing at 1.21 was showing 1.0875 before in everest temps seem normal atm but not overclocked yet
Hmm ok, so 905 works better than 1001? it can be just me, but i have a feeling that 1001 has a bit better fsb, but that can be wrong though...
gotta try 905 when i get home... see what happends :)
no i think 905 is no better or worse so i'd stick with 1001, re my e8500 it runs a lot hotter than e8400 i have i am thinking that the heatspreader on the cpu itself is not flat maybe a bit convex so no making proper contact on the heatsink, i am not sure whether to lap it or ebay it and get another one
also another thing i noticed when you leave cpu pll voltage on auto when i checked in bios it was at 1.85volt cpu pll  so manually set to 1.50 might be worth checking
hehe yep noticed that as soon as i got the board though...
asus peps drinking when writing bios :)
i think the crosslink chip are a bit of a problem on this board...have gotten many bsods couse of NVAPI etc.. and i think my 0x00000124 have something to do with graphics to do.. somethings not right...
and the brick wall at 500, setfsb 502, and it hangs instantly...
im in the roll of a trade with a dude, my board and some money from him, and i will get the Giga P35T ? worth a shot?
i can keep it until Abit IX48 MAX coming :) that board looks nasty... :)
Where exactly does the PLL voltage run?
Is it directly into the CPU and what component of the CPU?
Just wondering what difference cooling plays here...
