X38 not that good with 1:1 divider.... it needs more bandwith. too bad i dont have rams that can do 650+mhz. 10.0xx very possible with that speed.
X38 is very strong in 3D benching

I've made some tests with 8800GTX and 2900pro CF
It's FAAAAST specially with Crossfire
 still waiting for 1 descent bios:mad:
I think all of us are waiting for a decent bios. F3 is the only one I have been able to really get stable.............
I did some reference test (3DMark 06) at 3600MHz with an 8800GTX and ATI 2900XT.
Interesting results.
I am going to do the same test with other M/Bs for comparing.
It is very useful to have a reference 3Dmark test…. at the same frequency

i and another guy from hardwareluxx forum in germand did some comparioson on ga-p35-dq6 and ga-x38-dq6 with crossfire only and many other tests
here you can see the folder with the conclusion pics and an xls file

http://www.hardware.feichti.com/gfx/...x38-dq6/bench/
x38 is nice if you have got a good quad that works greater than 3,2 ghz und crossfire then is very good and would be good for these people to change from p965 or p35
greeds Feichti
designed to work with quad cores & newer 133fsb/45nm cpu from what I can see on the box.
mine was "plug & play"... Just some more fine tuning... still trying to get the meaning of some of these xtra voltage options over the P35-DS4 here... wonder if the P35-dq6 has same voltage options as I would prolly flash my ds4's bios over to the dq6 if possible for some added options...
 gigabyte comes out with 3 crap bioses within days of board commin out now a week+ n no word of a new bios:mad:
why do you keep :banana::banana::banana::banana:ing about bioses
does F3 not work well for you
from what i've seen most people use F3 really well and that bios for me kicks arse
i will get a chance to test newer ones in a few days but until then F3 is really fast and doesn't limit me in any way...in fact it improves and shows the power of X38 over P35 for me already in terms of RAM timings and MHz
personnally i like f3 just my bsods pissin me off
i did some more testin finnally got 4 sticks working
you have to set pcie on auto if you set it 91-100 it wont boot "somethin new for gigabyte to know"
for sure x38 has pottential
here my tests 4 sticks then 2 sticks fully stable
the difference in minimal in read n write only copy down by 700
nice find man
My board should arrive today, dropped €10 since i ordered...always happens!
lol it droped 20$ here lol
nice to see you gettin yours soon
F5H works great for me.
absolutely easy as pie getting 450MHz+ on G0 QUADS (CPU FSB wall out though :()
The gigabyte at least uses real copper... stupid asus uses aluminum.
was playing around 540 stable somethin happenin @ 541 system crash
but look what happens @ 580
zsamz,
Interesting OC! What are your voltage settings?

i got my vengeance lol for all the bsods:rofl:  :p: :p:
Sorry to hear that zsamz, ASUS Maximus for you to next? Mine will be shipped on monday, big misstake by me to jump the gun for the Gigabyte X38.
well after spending 100+ hours on the board i not so sorry for its passing
i'm back on my trusty p35c n i gotta say its sweet and i need less juice to run @ 4.0+ n my ram happy @ 1250 with 2.31v i topped out @ 1160 with x38
i almost bought the maximus but i think i'll wait a month to see all the other boards its not good to jump on a board 1 hour after it comes out lol\
but the maximus looks promissing
You guys give up on this board much to easily. Go read maximus thread and see all the problems they are having with the board. This thread is much smaller because this board is much less buggy. Trust me i have both:)
I wish i could get my CPU@ 3600 and mem@1240 5-5-5-15 that i had on the 2x1GB testrun to sort memory out on the 24/7 4x1GB setup i have, then 10000MB/s is close, a bit more OC and the 10000 is reality on memory dispite poor memoryperformace on DQ6 vs P35 board reviews.
But as of now 1100 or 1067 in reality is max without memoryerrors in 4x1GB setup and the MCH-voltage is at max where it needs to be to get the setup stable and memory has what it needs since that is on low 5-8-8-24.
Ad to that only good BIOS for my memory is the old F3 and sometimes low CPUclocking don´t start or is stable so i think that Gigabyte released their board to early or had the crappy chip that was recalled since the only BIOS is released is crap and Alpha more than Beta because of the strange things this board do for me on high FSB and Vista won´t even start on some settings since it says some file is missing or if it start can´t load some file but lower settings it works again.
So far Maximus seems to do better for 4x1 Micron memory OC vice, ad the loadlinething that works with 505 BIOS. As of now the DQ6 seems to be the looser for me and i jumped the gun for the first board.
Have read the Maximus thread and simular on other forums and it seems that the thing DQ6 lacks for my part is what ASUS sorted out on the Maximus. Could have bought 2x2GB memory but the only one i realy wanted is about 550-650€ and that is the 2x2GB Mushkin 8500 5-4-4-12. The OCZ PC9200 was only 420€ for 4GB and has WC-cooler to, thats 60€ more for the MIPS-WC ramblock to the Mushkin kit.
My own X38-DQ6, had some issues...
There are two inductor colis located next two the small heatsink which covers four MOSFETs...this is in a very bad position and prevented me from properly mounting my Scythe Ninja Rev B., there isin't enough clearance for the heatsink to mount flush, the base of the heatsink is sitting on these coils pushing down...not good.
For now i have my normal 425x8 running.
http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/4724/cachememac0.png
My board came with F3, everything booted up normally, so i flashed to F5h and restarted...no proper boot. It was like the dark days of the P965 and those early bios release. Constant loop of shutdown and restart...so i pulled the CMOS battery.
Everything has gone fine since then. The X38 heatsink gets really HOT...i have added 8 copper ramsinks to the X38 are but it's still roasting hot...i can only imagine how hot it would be without all that additional copper!
i had a 80mm fan on nb and a 60mm fan on sb as5 on everything and it hot to the touch
intake 90mm fan blowing straight on board too
deffinately the nb heatsink needs better cooling and the heatpipe going to sn should be takin off nb heat tranfering to sb
heatpipes look nice but fans shoulda been added instead
Dear all...please help this newbie...:D ...i'm running my x38dq6 with my q6600 B3..have an issuee at BIOS setting :

Need help with my new X38T-DQ6, can´t get my fsb over 400, i was hoping for 500+ with this board.
i have just flashed to bios f3h, and enything over 400fsb it just reboot and reboot.
i have tried all the different voltage with no go.
enyone have a great setting for over 400fsb???
I would only use the F3 bios. The others are beta and are not really stable.

Guys. Help!
I love this board, but cant seem to get my ram stable over 1740mhz:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=162936
Hi E.R.
Sorry to hear that 4GB of OCZ 9200FLEX isn't up to speed yet on X38
I have same cpu/mobo/ram/heatsink combo but only 2GB :( on Vista Ultimate.
If you haven't already, check this link in relation to 4GB 9200flex on a DFI p35
http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/fo...ad.php?t=31046
I have hit 1224Mhz 24/7 stable with my 2GB and try not to stress my CPU so I keep it at an easy 3666Mhz:sonic:
Just built my own X38 board. Any advice regarding stable OC settings in BIOS F3, and where to find benchmarking applications, will be very much appreciated.
Specs:
GA-X38-DQ6 with F3 BIOS
Intel E6850 C2D @ 3GHz
Two ASUS EAH2900XT 512MB GPU's
Four 1024MB strips of Apogee DDR2-1066 @ 5-5-5-15
CoolerMaster RealPower Pro 850W PSU
Two Maxtor 300GB SATAII HDD's - RAID(0)
Two ASUS 20X SATA DVD-RW's
SwannSmart Pro internal 56k modem
Gigabyte 3D Aurora case
New to this forum, old hat at tech stuff (just not that big on OC)
And to add another quick post. As mentioned, I've put in four 1024MB strips of (what I thought were) DDR2 1066 Apogee RAM, but as this pic shows, my AU$365 GA-X38-DQ6 is only reading it as PC6400. Should I be going back to the store where I bought the RAM, or is there something wrong with how the board reports the RAM in it to the OS?
http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/d...U-Z_102207.jpg
lol that is not a motherboard problem
that's what it's written into the SPD it's all fine man
Yeh but what does it mean? That the board is only running it at 800MHz, or that the RAM is only PC6400?
Just that with all the hassles guys are having with this board I'm thinking it might be a compatibility issue, seeming though Gigabyte don't have it listed in their QVL
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/FileList/...ga-x38-dq6.pdf
New beta bios, F5i....also there is anew version of CPU-Z out :)
I´m give up on my DQ6 now, cant get it over 400FSB, i have just ordered the Asus p5e3 deluxe, hope it will go better.
walste> Go back to the F3 bios! Mine has been running at this configuration since I set it up. This is my 24/7 set up, which runs stable as can be!
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...ntitled-14.jpg
Guys, my DQ6T did 535 FSB out of the box, with no voltage mods. I dont understand why you are having so many problems walste. I am on the F4h bios.
I have the F3h bios right now, but still no go over 400
But on gigas site there are only F3h bios at the latest, where do i get the F4
F5i,quadcore 460FSB stable have no problem
leave all mobo voltage to normal.
http://pic.xfastest.com/hicookie/Gig...32m_13m53s.gif
Then there must be something wrong on my board, cus there is no way at all i can get it to boot up over 400
It could be your CPU, i've had three boards and my own E6600 will NOT go past 450FSB, no matter what voltage mods i make. Some chips are FSB limited.
Some can go past 500 and others can't.
New Bios (f5i):
http://rs44.rapidshare.com/files/64609953/X38DQ6.F5I
Very strange, all of a sudden they removed all of the support and product page of the DDR3 variant X38T-DQ6
Any word on the f5i bios fellas? I will wait for results. Everytime i flash bios i need to reinstall ati drivers;)
There seems to be plenty of people on either side of the fence with this board.
My experience with the GAX38DQ6 has been really good, the board has been stable from day 1 and the temps have been low on the chipset.
Currently running my E6600 B2 @ 450x8 24/7, managed to get to 470 fsb, but no higher than that, but it's the same as with my previous 2 boards I've run this CPU in, it always stops at that fsb, so CPUs are definately a limiting factor, not all will get to 500+ no matter what board you stick it in.
I've got 2 E6600's and neither have got to 500 fsb although the 2nd one I'm not using does get slightly higher than this one, both using PC8500 Dominator memory.
Scored 12950 3DMark06 tonight and there's a few more points to go when I carry on tweaking tomorrow, that with my Dell OEM 8800GTX which cost me £280 + £56 for EK FC8800 Acetal block, clocked to 660/2040.
Tried F4 for a while, but for me it didn't give or take much execpt that the boot time increased by quite a bit, now back on F3 BIOS.
I have installed all the drivers off the site for this mobo.
But in device manager I'm still getting SM bus controller question mark.
Cant find this driver....
Anyone got a link?
Also I can prime my Q6600 @ 3.8ghz but when I try and monitor temps the PC just reboots.
Is this something to do with a driver issue.
Cpu-z is out aswell not displaying correctly. 1.41
Using F5h bios.
I have 4 gig of ram 4 banks of ballistix.
Try this:
http://downloadmirror.intel.com/1088...6_PV_Intel.exe
Works fine for me:
CPU-Z 1.41.1 is also available, it might read things better.
I tend to agree, i've had a P965, P35 and now X38...using all bios that come out...my E6600 will not go past 450FSB, it's stable upto 445FSB...after that it gets dodgy.
I'm happy with the chip 3.4GHz at 1.4V is fine with me....i'm waiting for the new 45nm chips before upgrading the CPU. As for boot time with the X38, there is a definate lag, several seconds on pushing the power button, very weird....it's like it waits to POST,

Major problems to get over 500 with F4 it's a crap bios..
If you are running 4 gig in all banks whats the best bios?
Well, i´m so happy right now, i have just installed my new Asus P5E3 Dlx and no problem att all going 500FSB.
There must have been something really bad with my DQ6 board.
I really love this Asus, so i´m gonna get my money back for the :banana::banana::banana:ty DQ6.
None, even when MCH voltage cranked ut in top i can´t even go over 1100MHz when use 4x1GB, 1067MHz it max without errors on my OCZ Flex XLC 9200 and +.375V on MCH is what is needed for stable OC. In 2x1GB teh memory does 1200MHz without any problem and it is more to squize out of them when crank vdimm up.
Thats the main reason for me to try out the ASUS Maximus Formula SE witch should be rev 1.03 since it is a couple of days delayed.
However i run the old F3 and tried all Beta and the funny thing is that F5h stated that "Improve memory performance when populate 4 DIMMs". Not that i notised of any gain of memoryperformance with that or the new F5i, or any other for that matter.
2x2Gb is not my kind of choise sense the only 2x2-kit i really have my eyes on is the beautiful Mushkin XP8500 5-4-4-12 and that is like 600-750€ and a ripoff compared price/performace what i gave for 4x1GB OCZ Flex XLC PC9200and what they can do on the right mb, besides that Mushkin memory needs some wc-memoryblocks for like 30-60€ to in my setup when i sort the mb-issue out sense wc is what is on the way.
Yepp F3 it are from now until a decent bios shows up..
Who can get Crossfire running on this board? I'm keen to get my 2 x HD2600XT up and running in Crossfire. Have 7.10 drivers installed. CCC indicates crossfire is enabled but 3K06 score indicates only 1 vga running. Using F5G bios on mobo.
I couldn't hold out any longer with a dual core, and have finally given in to the temptation of a quad core Q6600 G0 CPU.
Just finishing a clean software build and then will see what I can get out of that compared to the E6600 I was using before.
Still going to stay with F3 until an obvious replacement BIOS makes sense to use.
Got the OEM CPU for £153 all in as the retailer is up the road from me (no postage to pay) Its a L724B3 batch so not sure how that will compare to other batches.
Also thinking of changing my 8500 C5 Dominator memory as well, as no matter what config's I try I can never get the memory much over 900 flat, even with slack timings and higher voltages, and thats on a P5WDH, P5B Deluxe, Striker Extreme and now an X38 DQ6, I'm convinced I've got a bit of a dud set here.
Depending on how well I get on with the new CPU, my trusty E6600 will go on ebay to help pay for the new one.
Managed to get it up to 9x450 last night on water on this DQ6 I've yet to rig the phase cooler up to the new board, as I bought it pre-order at £187 its been hard to take the risk with killing the board if I get the mounting wrong, my P5B got condensation on it and is now dead.
Will post some results as soon as I get a stable OC worth noting.
Switch back to F3 bios and im sure the CF will work without no problem.
I have tested most of the bios for this board and non of them are that good like F3, my CF work perfectly..
This is what i got in 3D01 after switch back to F3!

Anyone know how to change the value in the bios???
I want to drop it from 13 to 9 as recommended in the Enhanced Performance Profile in the pic below.
Also ..., anyone got skews working successfully yet?
When would you use the cpu skew to lead the g skew or vice versa?
Apparently can get upto 10-15% better performance.
Using my trusty OCZ 9200 FLEX on a 333 strap, 266 looks very promising but can't boot OS at higher speeds.
Hey maybe ER has some good ones :yepp:

X38 and Q6600 bios F5h
This chip would fail prime on the P35 Abit pro at any voltage.
Nailed 3.8ghz on the new X38 with the same chip. This is over cautious vcore to.
1.62v in bios.

Will push for 4ghz prime stable then lower the vcore to the sweet spot for 3.8ghz 24/7
added: F3i for X38T-DQ6 :)

In BIOS F5I it seems to me that boot lag is very short.
Probably *should* have added the X38-DS5 to this thread, new beta bios for that:
http://www.station-drivers.com/
I am still pretty amazed at all the complaints folks are having pertaining to the bios.
i have never changed mine from the factory shipped F3, and it's been running at the following settings since I overclocked it. This is my every day operating set-up, and has worked flawlessly.
I guess maybe I'm a lucky one, but as far as I'm concerned this motherboard works fine. Now, I will say, I haven't seem some tremendous overclocking ability over the P-35 chip-set, but it does a fine job as far as I can see.
I really think it's a chip-set, processor, memory combination thats making mine work so nicely.

Ya, looks like it is totally hit or miss. I cannot break 400FSB stable no matter what I do. I have a 120mm fan blowing on the heatpipe and would be watercooling if I could.
Really strange and too bad. Now I have to dump another board for a nice loss and spin the wheel on another board. :(
Bummer deal brother! I'm water cooled, with 4X120 fans on my radiator, and 4X120 case fans, and 2X80 hard drive fans. I have stock cooling on the NB, and if an aftermarket cooler becomes available I would love to put one on it.
I have overclocked it to 534FSB, but you got to run the voltage up, and there is not that much performance difference.
Good luck, and hopefully the next board of choice you pick will work for ya!!
The only thing i did was raised the Vdimm +0.50V witch suposed to be around 2.33V and within the specs. left the timings on auto and used whatever systemmemory multiple that gave the desired speed to test them out i 2x1GB, that with the best F3 BIOS, dont realy know what strap there where on the multiple without any ~ or + or any other mark on them. After that i have always run 4x1GB but all BIOS more or less suxz big time for that combo, not even up to specs, just low 531Mhz on bad timings and have hard time to make that on 5-5-5-15 to even at 2.55V on Vdimm.
How they can claim F5h to be better for 4 dimm user is a mystery to me since that is no improvment is speed or tighter timings than F3.
Wish DFI had a board out to compare how that do against Maximus when 4 dimms used sinse i am no way near a happy camper with this crapboard.
